It is an abnormally basic scenario, yes. I would have expected some more effort and creativity, but I guess they decided to go all-in with build-and-destroy scenarios as the bread-and-butter of AOE2:DE
Yeah but the Catalaunian Fields was at least interesting because of the DM aspect. Also iirc it was a throwback/remake of an AoE1 scenario where you played as the Romans. This just started you with some normal Castle Age stuff lol
The existence of this AI just increase the difficulty level if you want to protect them, as they use infantry units and skirmishers to combat Frankish paladins.
I would argue that the third mission of Genghis Khan (Into China) is one of the most generic in the game. The only mission is to wipe out all enemies and I dont remember if there are even any voice triggers aside from capturing 6 bombard cannons west of the map.
I am starting to do Bari on hard, I am guessing they made it much easier since in the past I legit could not beat even the first level on moderate. And yet I am 2 deep on hard. Bari 1 I honestly didn't do much, I sent a transport to Loius and built a castle up there to keep him safe. Then just kinda built up then trashed all the camps and won. Seems this level is basically the first attack Loius can deal with on his own but if you aren't helping him by the 2nd he will die, but if you do, chances are you won the level at that point. I just built a castle, put 20 crossbows in it and walled 2 sides of it to make the rams take a bit longer to reach it. Which often killed them so I rarely had to repair it. Beat is around 50 minutes or so. Bari 2 I actually found insanely easy. I went to whatever town was in the west, walled the top of that base entirely off and left the bottom bridge open and broke my gate down so they would go that route. Plopped a castle there and put archers in it and had some light cav/hussar on standby for the occasional treb or multiple rams, and just built up and eventually made a couple trebs and archers and just went straight north all the way around to bari and wiped it out. Didn't even feel like you needed to deal with Green or Yellow. This took an hour and a half since I was scared I would get flanked by the other AI before I just yolo'd the attack. Coulda attacked by the 40 minute mark and ended around then if I didn't just keep fortifying myself when I didn't need to.
Yeah, this is just a straightforward 2v2 map. Piece of cake if you wall up the river crossings on your side of the map. EDIT: What? Rock stone? Never seen that in the game before.
I found it super relaxing after the last 2 which were difficult for me.
I remember playing this and by the time I got to the Normans I was like "wait, thats it?"

Maybe they wanted the "battle" to feel much like the Catalaunian fields scenario from Atilla.

Remember that Vikings have chieftains and the IA does in fact research it, so their infantry hold up very well against them
I built barracks in their camp and made pikes.
Happy New Year, Ornlu🤗
It is very generic compared to the last two. It could have been a good "introduction to Byzantines" scenario, but the first one served that purpose.

Can you play this scenario with players instead of AI ?
I was also like: this can't be all that, the Vikings gonna turn on me, better Onager their base to the dust first... And then, it was over anyway.

Man I played in hard and took me 1.5hours they were attacking all the time you were lucky to not have many attacks from them
Shepherd's loose ends......😢😢
I totally thought of that as well when I first saw the name 11
Wouldn't a transition to heavy camel be easier? Seeing that you already had all the cav upgrades.
Camels are created far slower than halbadiers, and he didnt have enough gold for camels anyway

I am sure there's no other scenario as generic as this... right?
meh.. this is basically 2v2 highlands...
