    John aint kidding when he says its little more diffcult when your foot cant touch the tree. I climbed like this for first time today and is alot more diffcult i suggest practicing before going to hunt.

    Good luck this season and thank you for all you do to share your knowledge on safe climbing. This will be my first year with your system and I have never felt safer in my saddle than I do now, I even got my eleven year old daughter climbing, learning and having fun with me, swinging from trees is a great family activity.

    Thanks John! This is exactly what I was asking for on the last video. Beautiful setup. Good luck to anyone crazy enough to climb a tree like that with sticks and a linesman’s belt!

      @@HuckFTW excellent. I'm glad you saw it because I was going to reply to your comment on the other video but I haven't had a chance. And just so you know, I had arrangements with my camera operator and when he asked me what we were going to do, I changed my mind and decided to make this video based on your question.

    I learn so much from you John. This will be my first year in a saddle. Life got in the way, I haven’t practiced as intended. I’ll be climbing SRT around my house daily, probably won’t do an actual hunt until late in October. I hunt 2A and 2B. Good luck. 👍

    I learned everything in the hunting season, what you say to learn that before, definetly makes sense! Had no chance tho, hunting season starts here in may, until january. Took quite some time until my equipment was complete (delivery...). So either learned it in the middle of the season or would've been forced to postpone that to the next season. So far i have 17 hours in the saddle and 11 (roe) deers down, but honestly from my point of fiew my greatest accomplishment is that i finaly mastered the JRB Knot. :D It is a very different thing to do that cozy at home, versus in the dark after a hunt with bad weather and a black rope. (won't buy a black rope again...)

    I hunted Sat in 85 degree heat, new climb on a new tree. I was soaking wet, changed shirts after I cooled down a little. The south is brutle in early season. Nothing is moving yet...

    Thanks John! Question: How long do you keep your throw line? Do you use a throw cube to help prevent tangles? I just bought a 7 oz square laundry tote that seems similar for around 5 bucks, rather than the 30 or so arborist cubes go for. Also, if I don't want to leave a preset on public land, what do you recommend for quietest ascent? I tried with a pole but found it too loud no matter what I did. Two tether perhaps? I don't use sticks. Last, have you tried only using a ring of steps and no platform? Just curious. Thanks again!!!

      All of your questions are addressed Elsewhere on my website and channel. When I carry my Universal climbing system, I can use it to climb any tree with or without a throw ball. A Maverick Pole is recommended for the hitch climbing method. I will keep a piece of throw line until I lose it or break it. And although I have no objections to using a bag, this video shows how I coil my line.

      @@michaa7942 that's it. I just verified it on google. I don't see the pattern that I got anywhere on sale and it's not the greatest. If you like the bag, just get whatever one is the closest to camouflage. I saw a woman's model which looked pretty good, much better than mine

    Can you explain why you disconnect the paracord before starting the climb. I've been leaving mine connected so that a) I don't have trouble finding it again after the climb and b) I don't forget to connect it again when pulling my rope down. What is the downside to leaving it connected?

    • @jrbtc
      @jrbtc  3 місяці тому

      @jonpeterson8510 that's a great question. When doing recreational climbs, I will leave it attached because I don't bring my rope up into the tree. But on a real hunt, I bring my rope up into the tree and if I also bring up the para cord, too often, by the time i get down, there's a tangled mess on the ground at the end of the hunt and it's almost dark and I'm trying to get out of there without using a flashlight. Paracord has a way of getting caught in sticks and debris. There are certain occasions where it's good to leave it attached. For example, if we believe we might want to manually put the Paracord in a different tree crotch, then we would want to have it handy.
