- Today I went out to try my to catch some jumbo perch. When the bass and pike started biting I put the perch aside and caught what was biting! I was using small treble hooks with minnows. Jawjackers work really good as set lines in the shack as well! I ended up keeping two crappies for dinner!
Hope you Enjoyed

I can't get over the quality of your under water footage. It's soo cool to see the fish and how they move and act.
Thanks! It’s a blast watching them!
As a kid, I got transplanted from the abundant fishing grounds of Minnesota to the rather artificial, planted (read this as "welfare trout") fishless and overpopulated terrain of southern California. I sure miss those summer days catching all the species you showed, from a small boat with a 5.5 hp Johnson outboard to simply a dock, or even the shore. We did do some ice fishing, but had nothing like the technology you showed here. Back in "the day" a guy with an auger drilled a hole in the ice for us (I'm sure Dad paid him), we put our backs to the wind, and we fished. Thanks for the memories, GREAT video!
right on.
yeah it sucks fishing here in california unless you go to the shore. They used to stock a reservoir every summer until some environmental groups stopped them for some reason or the other, but everytime they did, the dam along the reservoir would be filled with people until there was no place to fish there, and within a couple of days, there would be hardly any fish left between the fishermen and birds.
I always had bad luck out ice fishing, walking around as a kid only to step on a old hole an have a cold boot😂
My condolences regarding South California freshwater fishing. I grew up where ranches had small dams to catch winter rains for the livestock. My father had a copy of the county Soils Survey where soil types were delineated on black and white aerial photos. I would look for dull gray patches with one straight edge, which would be the dam. If practical I would ride my bike there because most involved trespassing, and hiding a bicycle is easier than hiding a pickup!
The ultimate irony of California: they preach environmentalism and protection of wild spaces, yet consistently destroy and eraticate wilderness in favor of water for a Population that would better benefit from desalination and not living in a fucking desert, water for farms that destroy unique wildlife areas, dams that destroy river systems, introduction of COUNTLESS invasive species of all varieties, and most of this is because of the state government itsself. The irony!
13:46 that was the cutest bass bite I’ve ever seen
probably one of my favorite videos out of the bunch I've seen you do. seeing fish is great, but it's nice to see them in reference to structure rather than just on screen in no mans land. makes me want to get out this weekend a bit to target bluegills.
Fascinating to watch their behaviour as they approach the baits. Thanks for a great vid.
Glad you enjoyed it
Love watching pike on underwater camera. Such successful predators
A friend of mine has dived under Antarctic sea ice. With year-round ice cover preventing the wind from stirring the water he estimated the visibility at a quarter mile. But no fish were seen. Cool video!
Ready for another banger😎
Sweet video. Bluegills are awesome !
Never thought about use the fan on the buddy heater. Great idea
You’re an absolute mad man for holding that treble hook on the end of a set jaw jacker
For bluegill, try a small tungsten jig with a waxworm or two.
FLAMES 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Bluegills often stare at minnows, but rarely bite. Try a small jeweled teardrop lure with a waxworm.
Some good looking fish. 👍
luv the under water camera I have a big screen tv in my tent
Video was super cool my guy!
Thanks!
I have that fan. Works good!
Interesting and fun to watch. Parks and Wildlife banned any device that automatically sets the hook here in Texas. But, I always just use one pole anyway, so no big deal to me.
Very cool!
with all those pike and bass swimming around I'm not too surprised the bluegills wouldn't bite! That looked like a ton of fun though!
they won't bite because he's using way to big of a jig, and jigs the jig way to aggressively for late ice Wisconsin bluegills
Great video. Cool underwater cam action. Cheers.
Thanks 👍
My fav bait to use is a 1" curlytail grub they just cant resist
This is awesome didnt know Crappie would be that shallow
They've come to pay their respect.
Man you gotta fish there more often. I would love to see another video in this spot.
Will do!
Over 100 fish chilling there
Dope video dude!!!
Thanks man!!
Great footage of their behavior. Crappie are beautiful and delicious!
I'd be tempted to toss a net down there it's so thick with slab gills!
There's a big bowfin in the top left corner at 26:40. Don't see those on underwater cameras too often.
I saw that!
I noticed too; it was nice!
that's amazing! How deep are you?? we were fishing in 5 ft of water yesterday and caught 57 bluegill and 7 crappie.
Done very well late ice. Shallow water
great video, really fun, watched entirely really cool
Thanks Simon!
Just got a ice shany this year for Xmas. Super excited to throw it out on my pond. I have a question tho. I never heard of jaw jacking. What’s that?
Sun is getting higher in the sky for longer each day. Spring slowly coming. Fish know. Temps warming here and there fish come in shallow start moving
Nice video
Awesome!
Thanks!
I love 18’s on dead sick and 14’s on tip ups
Dang, it looks like the Cabelas aquarium!
Best thing i ever used for blue gill are red earth worms for all seasons.
Kyle, you need to come fish Fort Peck, MT for some monster lake trout - Aaron A
That would have driven me crazy. Seeing all those gills not bitting my language wouldn’t have been PG rated. I would have probably moved to a different spot. Underwater footage was great Kyle. Stay safe.
Right! hopefully as the temps warm up I can get them late ice!
I notice when fishing for blue gill they tend to bite more on smaller baits for some reason they don't go after minnows much.
That crappie on the jaw jacker was crazy. It's like you had a crappie on a leash for a bit until it triggered. So surprised it put up with an that resistance and didn't spit the hook
Right! He wanted to go for a walk!
Man you are brave grabbing that hook with the jaw jacket set up, lol.
Yeah.. it was out of the trigger tho lol
Some of those fish are highly intelligent, it's in their eyes, they know it's a trap. Others just don't give AF and are hungry.
A school of fish is what I see. Nightcrawlers or maggots in the BIG SKY.
Found you with your Buddy Flex video recently, and see your back to the regular one. Did you figure out it the tip over valve has issues? I agree to be having fun vs fixing things though - keep er movin'
So it ended up being the regulator where the tank screws on.. It's not a hot enough heater for me. But they did send me a new one.. so that's cool!
We went out on Little Butte Des Morts yesterday afternoon below Menasha locks and took home 25 Perch, caught about 35 - 40 and one 20" Northern, all he wanted was our jigs. Watched him on camera I missed him and he turned around and nailed Tiffany's. But tons of 8" plus and few smaller.
Dang! sounds like a blast!
@@Wisconsin_Fisherman It was, all in about 3-4 hrs. We called it quits because we didn't want to tear down in the dark with 2 inches of water on top the ice. Ice was about 16 inches though.
Thanks Kyle, I really enjoyed the video. Wow, there were lots of gills! I was thinking that they didn't bite because of low dissolved oxygen, but the bass were plenty active. Do you think that the DO might be low in that lake? Does it ever suffer from partial winter kills? Thanks again, Dave
wrong bait, use waxy and spike you will catch gills all day
Most definitely it’s a local lake you drive by a lot and probably don’t think it would hold this potential. We’ll chat about it later
@@Wisconsin_Fisherman A lot of ranchers see big fish and ignore it on the Musselshell.
Ha ha those big gills ain’t so easy always, go to a tiny tungsten jig with a spike or two, or a tiny jig with a little hackle and a spike!
Next time I'll get them!
what do/did you use to film underwater like that? did you just glue a gopro to a string and down under it goes?
I use an Aqua-vu you can find a link in the description
Nice! What lake is this?
when ever I went ice fishing as a kid, I sat there hoping I do not catch a fish, that way I do not have to take my hands out of the warm gloves
Hate it when the gills won't bite, watching them on the Vex follow my jig up and down and won't smoke it.
15:02 at the lower left corner, you can see that toothy critter's snout before that minnow gets destroyed.
Right seen that as I was editing! wild!
What kind of fan are you using and how does it work, does it move the air around very good?
Link in Description. I love it, it works very well!
3:42 a bass loses 2 pounds in body weight between the seasons?
I have never heard anybody say this I’ve never read it this is mind blowing.
Bluegill will eat minnows, but mainly really big bluegill only.
I’ve never seen fishing from the fish side
They definitely look bigger in the water lol.
Do you use this underwater camera in leu of a typical vexilar?
Yes you’ll catch way more fish at lease getting the hook in their mouth sometimes the camera head scares them tho
Your camera makes all those fish under water look like 4 times their actual size.
Negative 7 Celsius= 19 f.
It was -7°F is -21C
I don't know what pound line you were using but finicky bluegill can be very line shy. Next time try keeping some 2lb fluoro and try a lighter fluoro leader. Awesome video!
Defiantly will!
The one in inch industroSPIKE in red from fish frostbite USA on a 3mm or 4mm tungsten jig has done very well for me as well. I was out fishing live bait with those things. Then they would turn their nose up to it a few times I would put one maggot on and catch again. Good luck!
WAX WORMS WORK REAL GOOM😄
Jawjacked
Don't you think that he is warning the other fish? " Don't do it its a trick!"
How much was your aqua view and do you think it’s worth it if you go about every weekend
It's totally worth it you'll have to check the link in the description
Like those jaw jackers, I fish in shallow water almost exclusively for bluegill and crappie. I don’t know why you have a bad vibe for bluegill I’d rather eat those than crappie. Where can I get those jawjackers?
You'll have to check the description or their website
Where did you get the fan for the heater at?
Amazon
Here in south central Montana we think Bass filets are pretty good on a plate.
Here in southern wisconsin they taste muddy and green. Must be a water quality thing.
@@Thea-gj2or I'd bet just about anything would taste funky soaked in that kind of water. Montana water flows much cleaner I guess. I wouldn't drink the Musselshell, but I eat the bass that come out of it.
That was wild! How deep is the dropoff?
About a 20' drop!
@@Wisconsin_Fisherman perfect! I’m in that kind of structure today and will go shallow near the shore/bank. Thank you!
13 blue gill.
Been fishing 5 times haven't gotten squat
me: "i haven't caught anything in hours... are there even fish here?"
the fish: 16:48
What lake is this
Try downsizing your jig when they dont bite.
Wow, quality fish there. That's the beauty of living in Northern wisconsin. If you're a fisherman such as yourself, that's the place to be.
If you're a trout fisherman, west/southwest Wisconsin is the place to be
Yeah sometimes it surprises me to see that many quality fish!
classy move grabbing the small pike by the bottom of the jaw and jabbing your thumb into its eye very sportsman like. 12:20
My thumb was between the upper inner lip not its eye quick shot with the camera
-7 Celsius is 19 Fahrenheit, not -21.
What lake were you fishing?
Haha
I got done watching the vid when you lost your gear ice fishing . And yesterday my phone went right down the hole and I’ve been using a old iPad until I get a new one,
DANG!!!
Why didn’t the bass eat anything
How do u prevent line twist?
Its very hard to but you can try when spooling your reels put the spool of line in a bucket of water so it can about and freely in the water floating. That will help.
Are you on white potato lake
I think your bait was too big for the bluegills. Try a wax worm or something small. Remember how small their mouths are. The jig is spot on.
I enjoyed the jaw jacking video
Bring that minnow up to a foot off bottom.
There’s no o in crippie
What kind of acid guys is that
None
What lake was this at?
Lake uwontknow.
@@Wisconsin_Fisherman shucks worth a try
eating crappies over gills?? to each their own I guess :)
Where are you fishing
On the Ice of a lake
Where are you fishing??
On the lake
Sheee
And or later ice
How come you said Celsius you’re in wisco
Because I have international views. They like the conversion
Said your crappie minnows is sus.
I counted 7
