@znerky No, the boss isn't FROM any Final Fantasy game, he doesn't appear anywhere in any game int he series. He's just a reference to the early games in the Final Fantasy series. He's only a Super Mario RPG boss.
@znerky He's actually right. Go listen to a rip of the Culex Battle music. Yes, it's the same theme, but this one is clearly a mix coming from a FF rip and not the Super Mario RPG rip. The one from Super RPG is very distinct.
Culex is not from Final Fantasy, but the Crystals, (blue, red, green, and yellow) were. And the Culex theme is the Final Fantasy IV Boss theme...and this is a remix of the Culex/FFIV Boss theme.
@writerchick4eva Hes Square Enix's reference to FF. Hes a hidden boss, hardest in the game. Him and the crystals have over 12000 hp total. Use The shiny stone from the girl in moleville(She wants fireworks) on the locked door in Monstro Town. Then Cluex will ask you to fight him. Winning gets you the Quartz Charm, which multiplies item effects by 1.5. Peach with Lazy shell+star egg is VERY good in this fight. The music and character design are from FF, as The same company made both games.
epic music for epic fight. i wonder if a full bore final fantasy mario cross over would have a final boss this mind blowing? i mean a lot of the games are cutesy enough to mesh with Mario and Mario has taken on some crazy stuff. if it happens, Culex has to come back and this theme modernized. well modernized more, i think this one is a touch different than the actual music
The music is a reference to Final Fantasy IV. It's kinda like that scene with 8-bit Mario being an obvious reference to Super Mario Bros. Culex himself is an original character but heavily based on Final Fantasy villains.
super mario 64 and super mario 64 ds.mario kart, the original super smash bros was made by hal laboratories but that's a part of nintendo. super mario bros, super mario bros 3,super mario world, kirby superstar,kirby super star ultra, legand of zelda a link to the past. and hundreds more.
I remember this Fight. This is one of the only fights I had to use the Red Essences. Makes you invunurable for any fight. Gives my party time to do some damage.
best theme in the game :3 and god bless the rocky candy :D well realistically speaking if have at least the lazy shell armor on peach is almost impossible for him to bring you down :3 good for me since i'm too lazy for try to get the super suit :3
@CloneMega it isnt the one with the heavier bass tone. its the same song with the same beat. the only difference is how the bass was produced. you are correct about this being the original version even though i fail to see how thats relevant.
i don't know why i wrote that. thats BS i beat him on like level 2x too. the lazy shell on peach is best and just heal and when they don't need healing use rock candy.
@CidTheNinja Final Fantasy IV came out first. Super Mario RPG was Square's last game on a Nintendo console until in the future... around the GBA, DS, Gamecube, Wii era.
I used to be able to just use rock candies on him over and over again and beat him. Little known fact: timed hits also extend to getting Lucky! when using items. I've beaten both Smithy and Culex with under six rock candies.
you need a crystal to open the door and then face him!. He is freaking tough with all of those crystals. i tried to face him, but i ended up dead like a roach. its like the Sailor Moon: Another Story game all over again!
My first thought when I saw this guy's battle form was "Whoa is it just me or does this person look like he does not belong in the mario series?" I had fun in the battle though.
I think it IS. Also, the Culex sprite would be an awesome boss sprite for, hmm... FINAL FANTASY IV OR V OR VI. KEEP MUSIC, EXCEPT USE THE FFIV DS VERSION OF THIS.
Culex looks to me like Chaos, the final boss of FF1. Except with the Crystals the Warriors of Light posses. And feathery wings instead of demonic ones.
You're asking for one game Nintendo has made? You mean a Nintendo-developed title? Well, lets look at Nintendo's first-party developers: Brownie Brown (Mother 3), Intelligent Systems (Fire Emblem, Paper Mario), Nintendo EAD (Animal Crossing, Super Mario Galaxy, Zelda: Twilight Princess, among others in these franchises), Retro Studios (Metroid Prime), and there are more first-party developers and more titles under them that there just isn't enough space to list. Please, do some research.
Me : Dad, it it possible that, along with 7 teammates, I could slaughter 86 people? Dad : I don't know, it promises to be a difficult war, why you asking? Me : Then I will need more dislikers. Those persons who dared hitting the "like" button will regret having offended the most awesome FFIV theme ever, when I will recruit my army of Dislikers!
Why listen to the music from this boss when you can pop over to Final Fantasy IV and get the same thing~? Why? Because this has a Kefka-esque guy -with- Battle #2 from Final Fantasy IV right here!!
culex isnt that bad just have someone wearing the lazy shell and the safety ring the safety ring makes anything the crystals do equal 0 or 1 hp and the lazy shell blocks the rest after awhile the crystals and culex run out of fp and just sit there
i beat him, but it was a big challenge. i can't beat him 100% of the time even on lv 30. i love the music. p.s. use lots of FP move(especially genos) and rock candys.
if your referance goes to Mario Sports Mix, I'll say a big NO! That game is great, maybe final bosses are not good but gameplay and online capability makes the game a shine.
@znerky
No, the boss isn't FROM any Final Fantasy game, he doesn't appear anywhere in any game int he series. He's just a reference to the early games in the Final Fantasy series. He's only a Super Mario RPG boss.

@znerky is not
only the song is in the game
Culex is not from Final Fantasy, but the Crystals, (blue, red, green, and yellow) were. And the Culex theme is the Final Fantasy IV Boss theme...and this is a remix of the Culex/FFIV Boss theme.
@znerky
no, this boss was NEVER in an FF game, but this music IS a remix of FFIV's boss theme...
When I first glanced at this video, I could've sworn I saw the gems hovering like they do in the game.
@znerky
Culex was never in a FF game.
the theme is the onlt part that was in a FF game.
Culex was made to look like FF boss though.
@writerchick4eva Hes Square Enix's reference to FF. Hes a hidden boss, hardest in the game. Him and the crystals have over 12000 hp total. if it happens, Culex has to come back and this theme modernized. well modernized more, i think this one is a touch different than the actual music
A boss theme so awesome it was used in this and FF14.
And originally from FF2/4
The music is a reference to Final Fantasy IV. It's kinda like that scene with 8-bit Mario being an obvious reference to Super Mario Bros. Culex himself is an original character but heavily based on Final Fantasy villains.
super mario 64 and super mario 64 ds.mario kart, the original super smash bros was made by hal laboratories but that's a part of nintendo. super mario bros, super mario bros 3,super mario world, kirby superstar,kirby super star ultra, legand of zelda a link to the past. and hundreds more.
Culex, Dark Knight of FUCKING Varda!
no, when culex runs out of fp he just attacks, and his attacks are monstrous, i had peach waring lazy shell and his attack still did 45
To see this in the remake
0:37 - 1:05 That's the best part, it's too epic
They are also the only bosses that gave me a challenge.
Technically it's not even from this game, it's from a game called Final Fantasy 4.
@CloneMega it isnt the one with the heavier bass tone. its the same song with the same beat. the only difference is how the bass was produced. you are correct about this being the original version even though i fail to see how thats relevant.
no i swear it takes like half an hour but culex and all the crystals run out they dont run out all at once though
Heh, true that. Melodic interludes ftw.
Its kool that they added him to SMRPG lol
rly made to be played LOUD!!!!!!!!
this is the best music in Mario RPG.
i don't know why i wrote that. thats BS i beat him on like level 2x too. the lazy shell on peach is best and just heal and when they don't need healing use rock candy.
@CidTheNinja
Final Fantasy IV came out first. Super Mario RPG was Square's last game on a Nintendo console until in the future... around the GBA, DS, Gamecube, Wii era.
Culex: I am Matter!...I am Anti-Matter!...
OH SHI-! KABOOM!!
@crazyxgamer this boss is supposed to be reminiscent of Chaos in FF1. Anyone can correct me if im wrong though (which i may be >.> )
damn. this is 14 years old!
@foxfire945 this theme is sped up and added a few parts, thats all :D
HE's a Final Fantasy boss, but he's a secret boss in this game.
He’s not from a final fantasy game. He’s inspired by final fantasy.
@Archimonde259 True
yeah, and when you dewfeat culex its also the final fantasy victory theme
My first thought when I saw this guy's battle form was "Whoa is it just me or does this person look like he does not belong in the mario series?" I had fun in the battle though.
@hotrod926 Nintendo and square make this game, square makes final fantasy games, so they put this music
@07Livewire Lmao. It's in both games dude, as FFIV's boss theme AND Culex's Boss theme. Culex was a challenge boss of FFIV that they put in SMRPG.
this song got me into hardstyle lol
The crystals remind me of Flandre Scarlet, and if you don't know her, search it on UA-cam.
I think it IS. Also, the Culex sprite would be an awesome boss sprite for, hmm... FINAL FANTASY IV OR V OR VI. KEEP MUSIC, EXCEPT USE THE FFIV DS VERSION OF THIS.
@SonicKicksASS8 Um...... a non paradox?
@Hygonia25 ah. thanks!
This guy should've been the final boss instead of Smithy, he's way harder
If you have the right equipment he's way easier than Smithy.
That and the right equipment to block his most devastating attacks. That's really all you need to win.
Weapon, level.......well it depends, Though you have to agree with me here. This guy was tough, worse than smithy. If not, than its your opinion.
Culex looks to me like Chaos, the final boss of FF1. Except with the Crystals the Warriors of Light posses. And feathery wings instead of demonic ones.
Because it was made by square and nintendo thats why it sounds like final fantasy
yea
I swear I think I've heard this song somewhere before... And it wasn't FF IV because I'm talking about another Mario Game...
I haven't lol. maybe because I was like 5 and didn't know about it when playing.
That one move he does called "shredder" I believe is a lot like scan. That could explain why he wants to be an asshole. ^_^
You're asking for one game Nintendo has made? You mean a Nintendo-developed title? @youngromh4x0r Happens to all of us.
Me : Dad, it it possible that, along with 7 teammates, I could slaughter 86 people?
Dad : I don't know, it promises to be a difficult war, why you asking?
Me : Then I will need more dislikers. Those persons who dared hitting the "like" button will regret having offended the most awesome FFIV theme ever, when I will recruit my army of Dislikers!
smith and culex are the only ones in the game that have infinit fp,or so i thought
culex is a final fantasy reference
Uh..... Is he a secret boss or something? Is he harder than smithy? Where do you find him and do you have to do something special to get to him?
Did this or FFIV come out first? I'm a bit curious. an I know square was involved with both, so it's not at all stealing.
ya, smithy was realy hard, peach died like 30 times >.>
lol i didnt have the lazy shells first time i beat him XD
Stab stab stab
Brittney Spears "Toxic" stole this a little bit lol
My over active curiosity often wonders if some "tunes" that sound similar which I have heard had any influence on each other.
Why listen to the music from this boss when you can pop over to Final Fantasy IV and get the same thing~? Why? Because this has a Kefka-esque guy -with- Battle #2 from Final Fantasy IV right here!!
@rogerc00l thank you most people dont know shit and they keep saying something they dont know anything about
culex isnt that bad just have someone wearing the lazy shell and the safety ring the safety ring makes anything the crystals do equal 0 or 1 hp and the lazy shell blocks the rest after awhile the crystals and culex run out of fp and just sit there
i prolly sound like a noob for asking this, but is there any reason that this IS the boss battle theme from Final Fantasy 4?
hey its the final fantasy 4 boss theme
I love the final fantasy references! It's a pointless plea but I want a remake!
good news
Stab Stab Stab
has anyone found a pure nintendo game
i beat him, but it was a big challenge. i can't beat him 100% of the time even on lv 30.
i love the music.
p.s. use lots of FP move(especially genos) and rock candys.
I'm here because Scott Pilgrim learned the bassline!
this is a remix... you should say so.
I'm only here because my puppy told me to come here...
Rofl.
Square was involved in the creation of this game, so you are correct in assuming this boss is also in FF.
Someone should make this on DDR.
i disagree, using mario, mallow and geno against cukex helps a lot, and also depends on ur character levels, and weapons
and then I was a dog
Some people are not very fond of the fat Italians saving the world I guess :c
THIS BOSS IS WORSE THAN SMITHY
wait, final fantasy 4!?
@r4shka Make it 87.
He IS from final fantasy =).
:33 ...WHY THE FUCK THIS VIDEO HAS DISLIKES?
who hasnt lol
Lazy shell on peach= victory at level 22 man...jeeze you suck if you cant beat him at level 30 100% of the time...
@TheEnchantedCereal Then you've obviously never reached high-end parts of the game. It was a secret challenge boss in FFIV. ._.
www.gofundme.com/manage/zn32k-fund/donations
if your referance goes to Mario Sports Mix, I'll say a big NO! That game is great, maybe final bosses are not good but gameplay and online capability makes the game a shine.
was this boss in FF4? i don't remember lol
it is lol
comment on the video.
what final fantasy is culex from?(if any)
It's youtube. Most of the time this kind of stupid shit doesn't have, or just doesn't warrant an explanation.
Final Fantasy IV much?
It's both you d-bag. Ffs lrn 2 game.
