My mom made this for Christmas this year and used a mixture of cinnamon chips with the white chocolate and it looked extra bark-like and tasted delicious too with the gingerbread!
I'm totally making this for New Years! I'm in charge of dessert for a friends get together, but I have a new born and need a forgiving cake that is fun enough for my baking-obsessed self, but easy enough for obvious new born demands!
I made it! And, it was easy (with Deb's confident encouragement) and SO GOOD! I'm so glad I went ahead and did it. The family didn't even notice what I was doing in the midst of all the hub-bub. Thank you for walking me through this! I loved it
Thank you for this recipe. I will be bringing it to a family Christmas dinner. It is also one of my favorite episodes. My family thanks you in advance. 😉
Deb!!! Log alert! I just made a lunar new year themed one … I love this one you made! The white choc roll-up trick is brilliant. I indeed held my breath when you rolled or unrolled at all points!! Haha… saving this for future party logs!!! Xo
Deb I have been following you and your posts for a couple of years now, and even have one of your cookbooks, the very first one! I really love the UA-cam videos because they inspire me to actually make the recipe. You make it look so simple it’s amazing. Happy Hanukkah and merry Christmas
Please do another season. Your recipes are delicious and I love your presentation style. Soup and more appetizer recipes please. On second thought, just do what appeals to you.
I love this cake! I made it last year and as Deb said it is so forgiving….and delicious! I pulled my copy of the recipe out last week and had written SO GOOD!! on the top.
I made this cake on Tuesday - the recipe is so clearly written you really don’t need a video. But next time I make it - and there will be a next time, it was stunning and delicious - I’m looking forward to having this video to cook along with :) Thank you to your and your crew for the video, and thank you for the brilliant recipe!
I made this last year - it was simple and delicious! Love the videos for extra inspiration. Think I'll make it for NYE this year. Thanks, Deb and Happy New Year to you and your family!
I made this for Christmas dinner following the recipe exactly, and the entire family LOVED it! (My son said he wants this for his birthday cake:) It was easy and fun to make - perfect ending to the Christmas feast.
I have made this cake, and it is truly delicious! I must've done my chocolate too thickly or it wasn't the best brand to use because, when I sliced the cake, the chocolate didn't cut/break like yours, but tipped up. It didn't really matter, because I honestly liked it better without the chocolate. Such a delicious cake!
@smitten kitchen - looks so good! Would there be any way to also add honey for flavor? Maybe to sub it for something else in the recipe? Maybe to cut back on the brown sugar and add some honey?
I had been going to make a regular (Ha!) buche de Noel and some gingerbread cookies to take to a Friendsmass, but this will tick all those boxes and then some. Thanks again, Deb! You rule. Happy Holidays to you and your family.
I did it!! Half the battle was not being intimidated by the process, and your disarming video was the perfect teacher. It's ready for tomorrow's table. Thank you :)
From the note above the recipe: "If you only have a half-sheet pan (13×18-inch), you can 1.5x the recipe; the baking time will be, at most, 2 to 3 minutes more. Since this will bring you to 4.5 eggs, you can safely bump it up 5 eggs." smittenkitchen.com/2020/12/gingerbread-yule-log/
That deadpan “I’m a professional” is 100% my vibe when I get clumsy in the kitchen. I really giggled at that.

I’m watching this in June, totally making this come December! The chocolate bark trick is amazing, so beautiful - but so easy! Thank you Deb. 😊

Same to you, Hedges! 😘

How would we adjust to use a 1/2 sheet pan instead of a jelly roll pan?
