Mike got the guts to mention Pete Rose in his speech. Very brave of him, but absolutely true.
You can tell a lot about a man that stands up for a friend when few will. You'll always be the greatest Phillie.
In the most classy way, Schmidt implied the hurt he felt from demanding fans while making an attempt to put things in a positive light. Though I'm not a Phillies fan, I have always admired this great Hall of Famer.
Mike Schmidt will always be my favorite baseball player of all time. He really is the greatest third basemen of all time.
He was my favorite player in the 70s and 80s. He is an all-time great. He is a human, not perfect. He is an overachiever in every sense. In athletics and academics. God Bless.
I hated Mike Schmidt so much when I was young.
Only because he whipped on my Dodgers.
What a classy man and great player he was.
Outstanding and congratulations!!!
+pigjubby1 Whipped your Dodgers? Steve Garvey and your Dodgers beat my Phillies in 77 and 78!
Thanks Mike. You are an awesome ball player, awesome human being and role model. God bless the best.
"I only wish that all of you out there could stand right here and see what I'm looking at. It's truly amazing."
I was there (in the crowd, not the stage, of course). And it was like the crowd from a Sunday-afternoon Phillies game at the Vet had been teleported to a field on the outskirts of a small town in Upstate NY... upwards of 40k people there. An amazing experience for me, all except for the sunburn :) .
The best 3rd basemen in baseball history.
Que gran jugador de béisbol...jonrronero... cuarto bat de los filis de Filadelfia
16:42
And look where we are now
Reds fan here was a big fan of Mike back in the day I hope Pete gets his day as well its been long enough!!!
Patrick Gray When Schmidt was asked if Pete Rose should be in the Hall he replied, "He should have his own wing in the Hall." Schmidt played for OU Athens. A fellow Bobcat has to be right.
Pete Zereeah yes sir he's from Dayton Ohio as well he told the story about being in college going to Riverfront for the 1970 World Series
Patrick Gray NY fan here but Pete Rose is the best ever! Charlie Hustle.
way to stand up for Jesus Christ, Mike
Rob Lopez Amen indeed.
Class act! Chicago guy here always hoped the Cubs could swing a trade for him because he killed the ball at Wrigley. Best third baseman ever!
KB Bishop congrats on your World Series victory this year!
Thanks, it's been a long time coming!
I lived in suburban Chicago till I was 9 years old in 1970. Then I moved to the Delaware Valley and gradually switched my support to the Philadelphia Phillies. I feel like I got to see perhaps the two best all-time 3rd basemen in Mike Schmidt and Ron Santo.
With Derek Jeter's retirement I wanted to reflect on my baseball hero, Mike Schmidt. I was only 3 when Mike was a rookie so when I started playing little league his career started to take off. Whenever playing in the school yard with the strike zone chalked on the wall I pretended I was Mike Schmidt. So my first point of this post is to thank Mike for inspiring me to be an athlete. My second point is a little deeper. I idolized Mike for his baseball skill but my role model was always my father. I'd never look up to a sports professional as a role model outside of playing a sport. It's unfair to the athlete and the child if that is whom the child looks up to. Now I have children. I don't expect then to pretend to be me when swinging a bat or shooting basket. But I do hope that dedication to family and love and as Mike's speech mentioned positive encouragement teaches them to be their own role model and have confidence to do what is right I'll have my own hall of famers.
Michael Jack Schmidt. The greatest 3rd baseman in Phillies history.
Not just the phillies greatest 3b but the greatest in baseball history
Hydra strucker 10 Gold Gloves, 3 MVP's, most HR's by a 3B, yep that qualifies him as the greatest 3B of all time.
I use to go to the vet and watch him lay as kid
@Chris Hopple. Don't you mean that Schmidt is one of the greatest 3rd baseman MLB history, period!!!
dapster
Agreed. Brooks Robinson lovers' always forget that Mike Schmidt had A HUGE glove. Despite there being a TON of great baseball players, to me, its really difficult to pin ANYONE down as to being the GOAT at their position. THE ONE position where I think it can be said is 3rd base, and the man is Mike Schmidt.
Mike Schmidt was a player I would try hard to be able to watch on the tv. What a talent and what a natural athlete. Great head of hair, too.
“Pete Rose the greatest hitter ever.”
A tad bit longer than the retirement speech. Just a bit…
Greatest third baseman in baseball ⚾️ Michael Jack Schmidt ! My all time favorite Philadelphia Phillies player !!!
Greatest white home run hitter of all time even better the vonn hayes!!
He is correct about Pete Rose. Classy gesture.
Yeah, everyone sho*(Key doesn't work)ld follow the r*les, except Pete Rose(LOL).
(Insert FNAF joke here)
He retires the job after night 1 XD
Fuck FNAF
CookieGamer fuck cookies especially you

***** lol
Hey he used to be a guard at Freddy fazbear's pizza he is on nightshift, he is been switched to day shift.
Shut up
he wouldnt let you wash his car. clown...
+M.A. Williams he would let me
The disrespect! Ha
Did you play professional baseball, you clown? Today's athletes don't have as much class as they used to.
I collected Schmidt ball cards and played ball till I threw a ball thru someone's windoe
are all HOF speeches like this? kinda windy.
Most are. But there's not many people inducted every year, unlike the other sports where it can be 5-10 per year. It's rare for baseball to have more than 3 or 4 per year, often fewer.
And then he went to work for freddy fazbears pizzaria
How are his knees? ;)
