OH MY GOD!! This is the first time I've heard and seen this in 45 years!! My Mum bought this vinyl for my 10th Birthday, October 1978
I missed my childhood. I remember listening to this cassette over and over. On my red tape recorder. Times were much simpler back then.
just randomly wondered if it was on here. I was six years old. ]I'd play this on my fisher price record player. have not heard this since 1980.
Literally identical circumstances. Even the age. Yeah, somebody's uploaded idealized versions of basically everything children ever used to listen to back in the day. I already found an old Halloween sound effects album years ago. Then there's this Star Wars record.
I was 6ur when Star Wars came out. I can still remember seeing lines to the movie wrapping around the block and down another 4 blocks.
I had this book and cassette tape I listened to on my fisher price Cassette Recorder when I was a kid in the 80s helped me learn to read, before then listened to tape and looked at the pictures, although later I lost the book but still had the Audio cassette tape.
Me too! And my little brother was 3. I still remember some of the quotes “the death star exploded in a dazzling ball of flame!”
@@marisawray894 remember R2D2 beeping every time you had to turn the page? Too much fun Marisa
I had these as a kid, loved them! Today my mum was helping my son read with an IPad app and she turns to me and says” I’m half expecting to hear R2D2 tell me when to turn the page!” Nearly spit my coffee all over the place!
Haven't heard these in 25+ years, chills just listening to them. This is amazing they even exist on UA-cam!
My parents bought this for me a few weeks after they took me to the Empire re-release in November 1982, and it would be a couple years before I actually watched ANH. Not something you might think about but as a condensed telling of the story for children, this and the other two OT records are masterpieces. The SE versions don't hold a candle.
I don’t know what it is, but even as an aerospace systems engineer that uses advanced technology on behalf of the USAF and NASA, there’s something magical about audio dramatizations that iPhone apps and Xboxes CANNOT touch. Same can be said here. Imagination is far more powerful. We need to get back to this somehow.
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!
It's crazy how much the story was rearranged to make it fit.
Before home video, and in between actual trips to the theater again and again, THIS was our way of enjoying the movie again and again.
Who else would sometymes get their figures out to reenact along with the cassette?
Were we not blessed to be able to witness such times!?
The person voicing Luke does a very good impression of Mark Hamill!
fun fact, that's corey burton doing luke's voice here
@@lizzyg9695 Really?
@@lizzyg9695 That's interesting. He said in an interview that his voice as Spike on the Transformers was meant to be a sort of imitation of Luke.
I found the book of this at a boot sale, so many memories of listening to this - "you'll know it's time to turn the page when you hear R2D2 beep like this"
Man, the actor who plays old Obi-Wan Kenobi in this actually sounds a *_LOT_* like Ewan McGregor in the role, despite this being recorded back in 1978 or 1979. Amazing.
Holy crap, if I didn't know this was recorded in the 70s, I would swear that was him.
His name was Sir Alec Guiness.
@@jackwhite1742 These weren't the original voices for the dialog parts.
You beat me to it. If I believed in ESP, I'd say the creators of this cassette had a little of it.
I had this as a kid (I was about 10 years old at the time) and I remember being a bit upset they weren't the original voices. I always considered it subpar and didn't listen to it much. It's nice hearing it again just to remind myself why I was so disappointed, lol.
STAR WARS 45TH ANNIVERSARY! 1977-2022! May The Force Be With You!
Oh my... like others here, I haven't heard this for , what, 34 years? I wore the tape and book out. This is wonderful. :-). Thanks for uploading this.
Still have these books and a white cassette tape. Thanks for uploading.
I had the LP version on vinyl. Hearing that R2 beep (for turning the page) brought back so many memories
My parents ordered a huge collection of these movie storybooks with the vinyl records for me when I was starting to read. Most of them were Disney movie books, and they had the chimes play when it was time to turn the page, and I thought it cool that the Star Wars books had Artoo.
I'd better listen to this later so I don't start crying at work...lol. Thanks for posting all these. 😊
Almost cried listening to it again I used to listen to it when I was younger before bed
I had this back in 1979.I was ten at the time. Its wonderful to hear it again.
This is quality. The level of detail and perfect pacing, this is amazing production. Thanks for the Christmas listen (2022).
Wow, I had this when I was 5. Never realised the voices sounded so weird, particularly Darth Vader lol. Brings back so many fantastic memories. Thanks XD
You're not alone. The voices do sound different. I remember the narrator having a deeper voice.
edit : Nevermind, something is different. There is a different narrator at 12:07 which is the voice I remember.
This has given me chills and shivers remembering listening to this all the time. THANK YOU SO MUCH!
Man this brings back memories as a 4 year old first hearing this in 1979
That klaxon blaring at 1:00 has stuck with me since my childhood.
I have been searching for this for 20+ years! A big piece of my childhood has been restored!! Thank you for posting!
I think i had this on vinyl as a kid. Wow.
I can't believe over 30 something years since I heard this. The internet is something.I was a little 10 year old when my mother bought this for me at sears.
And now sears is on the way out. It's kind of hard to imagine how much has changed to us oldsters.
I remember getting this in 1979. Takes me straight back to being 5 years old
I didn't get this one as a child, but I did have Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi, and other Star Wars stories on book and record. Ah, the memories of childhood, when these Star Wars stories could fire up imaginations.
I remember having this, along with The Black Hole and It's a small world after all read along books.
It's ironic that Disneyland/Buena Vista records co-produced and distributed this read-along back in 1979, because now look who owns the rights to the Star Wars properties! :P
I remember this from my childhood. Amazing how much the Obi Wan voice actor sounds like Ewan McGregor, LOL!!!
MAN! I got the for my birthday around 1980/81. Cassette pack with SW & ESB. I had only seen the 2nd film- this was my first experience of the original Star Wars. I remember this word for word and the character voices. I didn't realise they were voiced by different people until I saw ANH when it was re-released a year or two later.
I don't know HOW many times I listened to these!
I had this about 44 years ago. Wow.
I had on record! Loved this as a kid! Really takes me back!
I loved these as a kid. Helped me to learn to read too!
Thank you for posting this. I still have the book, but misplaced the cassette in storage. My son and I were able to listen and follow along thanks to your post.
Props to the guy who put this together, brings back a lot of fond memories. I forgot how bad Vader’s voice is on this lol!
Amazing. My older brother had the 47 of this. I was around 4 or 5 years when I saw it and by that time, my family’s record player didn’t work anymore, but I remember flipping through the storybook.
AS a kid I was so excited when I got this book and cassette. About 5 minutes into I was like, what is this? Not the real voices, and cheap sound effects... I had the same reaction when I watched Episode 1.
But this does bring back childhood memories... Thanks for sharing.
Not heard this in 40 years... Wow.
I had a few of the Rainbow tapes as a kid but I have never heard the Star Wars one until now, and I can honestly say I am BLOWN AWAY by the production quality of this one. Seriously... I had ghastly ones such as Ghostbusters and Back To The Future etc., which were just painful to listen to... can't believe there were actually decent ones like this out there I never had. Thanks for the upload... nostalgia overload right now. :-)
I like how beer was advertised in our children's storybook reading.
I still have this book and the vinyl record since 1979 ate age 7.
The narrator’s voice is the inner core of a core memory.
Wow,this brings back memories,i actually learned to read from listening and memorizing this, crazy hearing this after all these years!
Same here. I had a whole library of these things, both cassette tapes and records - Star Wars, Empire, The Black Hole, and a whole bunch of Disney ones. I could read before I started school thanks to them.
Back before home video this was all you had if you missed seeing a movie in the theater.
I have this tape and the one for ESB. The records are long gone…
Thank you for uploading. It was 1986 and my mom bought this for me in a 3 book tape pack. Oh the memories, listening to this on my tape deck complete with auto reverse function 😂😂😂
Wonderful way to revisit my childhood and share it with my own daughter!
Cool. Just found the books in my life and read along with my son
Thank you for this! So many childhood memories have come flooding back, fantastic!
I had the record when I was a kid. Thanks so much for sharing.
As a kid, I didn't even notice the voice of Darth was not James Earl Jones. Lol. Mark Hamill is good about doing all of Luke's voice work.
I love every second of these old cassettes, but listening to them 30+ years later, the voices kill me a little bit. Darth Vader isn't even close! 😆
Still, so, so good. The music, the sound effects - love it!
A beautiful way to tell stories.
These bring back memories
Awesome! You are helping to entertain a special needs child. She loves it!
I don't know what happened to my childhood vinyl copy but I finally found a sealed one at a flea market yesterday! I'll be going back today because they also had Empire and RotJ! They weren't cheap.
I definitely remember this as a kid ♥️
I have the red cassette somewhere. Side B had The Black Hole, which scared the hell out of me as a kid.
Wow, I remember this word for word
I watch it at the cinema when first came out.
This made reading exciting😍😍😍🤪👍 it's low tech.. I loved it !!!
I loved the Droid World read along book.
OH LOOK ITS MY ENTIRE CHILDHOOD
This is a great memory revisited! Thank you.
You just shot me back to 1979, sir.
Absolutely loved having read along's such as this as a kid. The only thing that made me crack up is when I heard Vader's voice in this. Almost sounded like he inhaled helium from one of my son's birthday Storm Trooper balloons before questioning Leia.
IIRC, Corey Burton and Tress MacNeille did the majority of the voices.
I have this Cassette somewhere in my house.
My favourite Christmas presents and my walkman ,70s 80s best time for kids, sadly not for adults due to Maggie Thatcher.
Long before Disney +, we had this
Amazing read along and film.
I still have the book. Haven’t heard it in almost 40 years. I love how they just skip over the Owen and Beru part.
LOL 2:12
Vader: Shut up, bitch!
That meme will never get old 😂🙂😂
I had these on cassette!
01:43 Darth went a bit....Welsh Valley there, Boyo😂😂
This brings back childhood memories lol
Had a bunch of old classic disney read along's (with the 45 records) though only star wars one had was ROTJ ..though a childhood friend had Star Wars and ESB which i borrowed enough times from him (along with ESB soundtrack LP) that i might as well have "owned" them as well.
When the Neptunes were in between albums, Shelley made her living voicing Princess Leia in Star Wars audio stories.
The sped version of Star Wars lol I used to have this when i was a boy. So much better to have the films today on Blu Ray. Darth Vader sounds like he took a blast of helium.
i still have this and empire on records.
cool how i was able to complete sentences!
i never got jedi tho...
REBELS OF IMPERIA is a dope story too...it's also here on the tube
What I find awesome is that the narrator did all the voices-except Leia.
Marco!!!! .......I can't remember which one or ones I had, probably ROTJ >to go with my Star Wars dressing gown I had for Christmas.
Obi-Wan's voice in this sounds exactly like Ewan MacGreggor lol!
this is a good book
I totally had this when I was a kid!!!!
Corey Burton, the actor who voiced Rev. Kane...in the Poltergeist sequels, voiced Luke in this.
When that robot on Ashoka said the classic "long time ago" everybody lost thier mind. I kept seeing comments on how the twit from that stoopid british show got to be the first to say those words. Nope it was this guy.
"This is Darth Vader's work"
I don't know, Obi-Wan. Grand Moff Tarkin is the one who concocted the plan of threatening to destroy Alderaan unless Leia spilled the Rebel base's location, at least in the movie.
Thumbs up if you had this on record
I read along as you hear along lol
I love the book
Childhood memories.
Can i use it for my stop motion video?
Sure!
Star Wars 1977-2017 40 years.
I love draw Vader.
I found my book so I had to read along!
✨️ 🤓
After all these years I realized Tarkin was removed from the story
