Kj Hammerman it's called class something Yankees organization nor their fanbase will ever know. I always remember the HBO special when Yankee fans were upset with their love ones died on 9/11 saying it's a shame they didn't win the WS01 for them which was just so disrespectful to Mets fans who died on 9/11..... as if winning the 2000 WS wasn't enough
I don't think they were being classless. They just wanted the Yankees, who play in New York, to win the WS for New York. It's no one's fault that the Mets missed the playoffs. It's not classless wanting your team to win the WS. That would be saying that the Astros fans last year with Hurricane Harvey and the Red Sox fans in 2013 after the Boston Marathon bombing were also classless for wanting their teams to win after the tragedies. Stop hating on the Yankees.
Wellie Cross but the Yankees won in 2000 so those people who died already saw their team win three years in a row. The other teams you mention didn't come off winning the year before so it's not the same situation.
I don't think you're getting the point. A fan is going to root for their teams to win no matter what the situation is. And in the case of 2001, the Mets were coming off a WS appearance and 2 straight playoff appearances. So it wasn't like the Mets were a bad team. At the end of the day, New York needed uplifting and both teams contributed. Mike Piazza hit the home run after 9/11 and the Yankees were dramatically winning in the playoffs. I still don't think it's disrespectful.
You obviously don’t understand what the word class means. It’s in no way classless to want to win a World Series. It’s in no way classless to want to win a World Series to pay tribute to your wonderful city that you love after such a tragedy. It’s classless to riot in the streets when you don’t win. I didn’t see that happening did you? The New York Yankees and the city of New York have more class in their pinky than you have in your entire body. You could learn a few lessons from the Yankees and their fans.
@@antoninicolas6222 Jeter didn’t deserve it because he changed the marlins. I don’t like the Marlins but keep the pool; and I like the old uniforms better, I mean the ones from 2012-2018. Since Jose Fernandez’s death; the Marlins didn’t need anymore changes. Jose would’ve been pissed at Jeter

Rivera's final game, he struggled to keep his emotions in-check when he walked off the mound. He "lost it" when Jeter and Pettitte went to the mound to take him out of his last MLB game.
I remember reading an article about this ASG where the reporter asked Leyland why did he pitch Mo in the 8th. If I recall correctly Leyland said if he pitched someone else and they blew the lead Mo won't be able to pitch in the 9th and he still wants to leave New York alive. One of those rare Leyland being funny moments.
What I found interesting about this is that the National League players stayed in their dugout. The American League climbed over the barrier to applaud him. And there is Justin Verlander, leading the pack. Classy guy. There will never be another Mariano, no one will come close. The respect he had was immense. Untouchable.
blpalv15 I really didn't understand the NL players' reaction either. I mean, it was Mariano's last ASG, they knew it was a historic moment, and they should have participated in showing him their utmost respect. Because you're right, we will never have another legend like Mo. We have and will have other legends. But there's only one Mo and he will always be missed from the field.
Dude was such a bad*** like omg. He had his few blown saves. But we as humans aren’t perfect. And this guy was just a machine either way, and he literally had the blessing of coming out to Metallica and had one of the nastiest pitches ever. Like man I miss him so much
While not Yankee Stadium it's only fitting Mo's last All-star game take place in NY. There will never be another like Mo. A legend and icon, the GOAT for closers
Greatest reliever of all-time (Sorry, Trevor). I'd argue he's the best pitcher of all-time. He's on the Mount Rushmore of the Yankees. Loved by everyone even though he kicked their butts for 20 years straight. Just think about it, the dude pitched the ENTIRE steroids era, and made all of the P.E.D. monsters look ridiculous.
I agree with most of what you said but who exactly, out of Ruth, Gehrig, Mantle and DiMaggio, is he knocking off the Mount Rushmore of Yankees? He's on the second Mount Rushmore--with Jeter, Yogi Berra and Whitey Ford. Which is better then a lot of teams first Mount Rushmore.
About 14 or 15 years ago give or take I was watching a game between the Yankees and the Diamondbacks in Arizona and there was a situation where Mariano Rivera had the bases loaded with no outs. Bases he loaded mind you and not only did Mo get out of the jam without allowing a run he did it by striking out the side. All I could say after seeing that unbelievable performance was he is the greatest over and over again. Mariano Rivera did something that I thought was impossible and it is my favorite Mariano Rivera moment and performance ever.
That's how you know what a genuine human being Mo is. He's awkwardly looking around like can I pitch now? He never tried to step into the spotlight and as he stated many a time it's a team game not individual. Hopefully Betances & Chapman can help us fill the void Mo left.
Simplemente emocionante. Muchas gracias Mariano, por darnos tantas alegrías. Le extrañamos en los campos de juego. Aquí solo una muestra cuando las estrellas le rinden tributo a una luminaria. Bendiciones.
And I have 3 autographed balls by Rivera, one is personalized and wouldn't get rid of it for nothing. Also Rivera has really good hand writing unlike most players you can make out every letter

Top 20 player in the history of the game. Not pitcher, PLAYER. Baseball could be played for another 1000 years, and there will never be another lockdown closer like him. If you were losing heading to the 9th, it was over.
There will never be another Mariano Rivera.....ever. When baseball retired #42, which was Jackie Robinson's number, Everyone in baseball who wore #42 were immediately told to pick a different number, except Mariano, who was allowed to wear it until he retired. That..says...it...all.
Bazooka Joe not exactly. When #42 was retried by MLB for Jackie Robinson, any player that was wearing 42 at the time kept their number, but it wasn't given out to amy new players. Mariano was just the last remaining #42 by the time he retired.
