Had my 04 since 08 and the only major thing I had to replace was the 545rfe trans. Never a problem with the 4.7 after 165k miles. No rust anywhere and the paint held up great.
My grandpa had a 97 Dakota that went over 300,000 miles and I currently drive an ‘06 Dakota with the 4.7 with 78,000 miles pretty good and reliable trucks.
Mine currently has 180k on it, was just 4x4ing in the snow this morning. It also took us to the beach where most trucks get buried in the sand, but not me and not my Dakota Sport.
Have a 04 club cad,had 12 miles on her when bought, has 248,000 miles, simple issues, fuel pump- under warranty, electric fan, pinion bearing- from pulling a overloaded trailer for thousands of miles along with a transmission rebuild as of this week, been garage keep all of her life and still looks brand new. Most people don't believe it's a 04. 3.7 liter does not disappoint, Best truck I've ever owned!!!
mine is a base cab. no power locks. I love it. no ignition chip. I love that also. i have 5 keys. mine is a 3.7 base. even easier on gas. It is 4WD and it works great.
Bought me a 3.7L 2WD 2004 extended cab Dakota for $100 CDN. Seller was convinced the head gasket was shot, it wasn't. It was a cracked thermo coupler. I felt so bad I gave him an extra $50 and kept the truck. After investing around $2000 I replaced the broken thermo coupler, put on new brakes, new rotors and tires, it seems Ive gotten myself a pretty decent little truck. It even came with a rhino coated box, a towing hitch, a nice lid style tonneau cover and a canopy!
I’ve had a 5.2 1999 Dakota single cab(had kids), 4.7 2001 Dakota quad cab(A/C broke), now have 4.7 2005 Dakota quad cab with minor problems at 96,000miles….water pump, suspension, manifolds. Great trucks
I bought an 04 at the end of 03. Brand spanking new. Quad cab with the V8 and tow package. 108k miles on it. Still own it almost 20 years later. Love this truck. I’m thinking I’ll pull the bed and convert it into an over lander
I have a 2000 Dodge Dakota Quad Cab 4 x 4 with the 5.9/360 Magnum engine, 4 speed auto, 3.92 rear diff and towing package. It has nearly 200,000 miles and still going pretty good. I do use it occasionally to tow my 2 horse bumper pull trailer. It's gone through one transmission rebuilt, one transmission replacement of the broken rooster tail, one transmission torque converter and leaking seal replacement, one heater core replacement, two radiators, two water pumps, one fan belt, one fan belt idler, one fan belt tensioner, one set of shocks, 3 batteries, two sets of tires (just about to be 3), one set of brakes (about to be the second), one rear wheel ABS sensor replacement, one front wheel bearing and front CV shaft replacement. But it has never left me stranded. I do change the oil every 2,500 miles and have done all the work myself except for the transmission and heater core.
I just recently picked up a 1999 2WD Dakota, with an extended cab, 6' bed (I think, but I haven't measured it), and the slow as hell 3.9L v6. Honestly, not much to say about the Dakotas other than they are trucks. Nothing more, nothing less. Just very basic trucks that will do exactly what you need them to do. And that's what I love about mine. It's simple.
I have a 97 4x4 with the 3.9. And you're right. It barely has enough power to get out of the way. But I don't mind that it's slow. I like that it's a basic, nothing fancy, reliable little truck. It's easy to work on, and I got it cheap. So it's perfect for work, and hauling dirt bikes around the desert. I don't intentionally beat on it, but it won't break my heart if it gets some dings and scratches.
Funny video. I have a 5.9l Quad cab and I love it. These are getting hard to find now with no rust. Mine pulls my 21' camper pretty well. And well, for an old truck its never let me down.
My 2002 has a 4.7 engine with a 9.25 rear end with limited slip and 3.92 gears. It would get to 60 a lot faster if the rear tires would stay connected to the ground. But yeah, the mileage is shit.
I'm almost done with my frame off resto of my 96 5 speed, 4x4, 5.2, short bed short cab Dakota. Frame 'just' started to rust, like surface only, so its been sand blasted and repainted. Great truck, fast, reliable, simple to work on, I plow with it and its like a tank in the snow. I added a 8 3/4 for a rear end so I can swap out gearing easily for winter and summer driving, and I'm swapping a 360 Magnum in soon as I'm done rebuilding that.
310,000 miles on my 3.7 2wd auto. Uses 1 qt per 1000 miles. Valve lifters and timing chains are silent. Zero issues beyond normal stuff. No rust. Considering getting a reman engine, but it runs so well, it’s tough to justify it. I am curious about what oil consumption levels others get.
Don't know about yours .. I have a 2002 dakota 4x4 quad cab and mine has abs .and mine will hit 60 in no time. Are you sure you're driving a 4.7 dakota.
I can say this video is absolutely true. I can stll remember as a kid going on road trips and fishing in my grandpa's, the truck is still perfect in 2023
Also peep the profile picture😉 I got one too, 235k on the body and 18k on the new motor swap I did with the 5.9 magnum. Super fun to make videos with. (Not trying to plug😅)
I approve. I drive an 06’ 4.7l v8 slt, and the only issues I’ve found with it so far is the breaks wear as any other cars would. Though I literally get 8.2 MPG, it’s a thirsty ho, but she looks and feels good and reliable no matter where or when.
Very reliable 6/10 huh? My 98 Dakota v6 3.9L Magnum has 380k miles never replaced anything besides suspension parts brakes and oil since I bought it new it deserves more than 6/10
You have to replace your key ignition if you can pull it out of your ignition cuz mine doesn't do that unless it's broken I've had cars that have done that many of times before but you have to replace the ignition and the 4.7 l has more problems than anything
Does this truck ever exist around Lethbridge? I always see one that looks exactly like this. I own one myself, and they’re one of my favourite vehicles so I always examine them a little when I see them.
Both my 95 dodge caravan and 91 plymouth voyager van could be started the same way with out the key. The key switch locks were pretty weak for some reason, but comes in handy when you lose your key, just dont look it lmfao.
Wow 32K views, I'm impressed. I don't think this is clickbait either. It's just clever satire. People are getting bent out of shape in the comment section because they don't have a sense of humor. -Chuck
I've got a quad cab full size ram 1500 with a rebuilt 4.7. Your engine has alot of miles.Im telling you the 4.7 in my full size pick up pushes and pulls insanely. Have 3 zero turns I pull with Iit goes up hills like a hemi. Get that motor rebuilt
They will never make these trucks the same, they will be these expensive luxury things. I hope if it comes back it is like this with the front split bench seating and column shifter. Very basic and not luxurious!
I drive a 4.7 quad cab with 232k and it runs fine, has its wear but i think this is more of a parody. this truck isnt that slow if you actually bury your foot all the way. the door locks are iffy yes but the key in mine doesnt come out, that can be a bad tumbler. at the time it was the only mid sized truck witha v8, and even chevys famous 4.3 v6 (350 with 2 pistons chopped off) wouldnt take on the 4.7 witha factory power rating 40 horse more and about 80 more ft-lbs of torque, 6 bolt hubs and more ground clearance than the chevrolet s10 and the 2wd rangers, though 4x4 might have been taller. biggest issue with them in my opinion is the body, and the gear ratios dodge chose for the rear end and transmission. at 120 km/h im only sitting at 2000 rpm in 5th gear. i can do 110 at 2600 rpm in 3rd for gods sake, its not the engine. with optional overdrive in the auto its rare that i would use it even on the highway. where i live quite frequently you can find yourself on 30 degree inclines or more even on the highway, thats hellish on the transmission if you decide to use overdrive
Mines an 06 runs like a scaoulded dog 186,000 & going 💪 very pleased may even do a video myself because its clear you guys are comedians and the american public should benefit from a real truck mans video
all the visable rust on it i could only imagine what the underside looks like. Come to CZalifornia I will let you do a review on my 2000 Dakota r/t extended cab 5.9 liter engine not a spec of rust underneath it.
You don't even understand whats it's like to live in Canada, the Midwest /Snowbelt USA. Most all the DOTs started using that salt brine shit in the 1990's and it eats cars and trucks alive.
A couple of thousand? Maybe if beat to Hell, ridden hard, put away wet, rusted out, and mistreated, but Gen II Dakotas in decent shape cost US$5-7k. As for styling, this generation sold like gangbusters which is why Dodge left it unchanged for 8 years and sales halved when they introduced 2005 Gen III.The Dakota Gen II styling followed cues from 1994 Ram design which dramatically increased Dodge’s market share. By comparison, GM and Ford offerings in early/mid 90’s (both full size and compact trucks) were literally square boxes. Then Ford compounded their error by turning truck design over to minivan engineers, giving us the fugly late 90’s Fords. It helped Dakota was the only mid-sized truck, filling a unique niche GM and Ford later attacked with larger compacts, and Japanese companies squeezed with smaller “full-size” trucks. Of course, you probably never heard any of that since it all occurred before your time. History matters.
THANK YOU I was looking for this. Dude good luck and love your online personality. Keep working hard everywhere you see fit as I am sure you already do. I hope this finds you in the best of health and great days ahead for you, your family, and your friends man.
Yeah they don’t have great key slots. My buddies 94 could do that but mine is still holding on strong lol. 65K miles on a 2000. You forgot to mention btw that the doors can be unlocked by pulling the handle from the inside
Good truck but perhaps clean the damn thing before show casing.. Also it's good it had hazard lights wow and seeing the dirty cigarette lighter was a bonus knowing it's been heavily smoked in and y'all can't vacuums the thing.... Brilliant
The Dakota is what got me from chevy into dodges but i leggit have a question. I know theres Dakotas who have a V8 engine, but so do the Rams why get a small V8 instead of the full size truck???
I'm looking at a 09 dodge dakota with the 3.7 l v6 and the 4 speed automatic. I had a 5.7 l hemi ram years ago and it was a pig on gas but I've been told the v6 doesnt actually do mutch better? Also the truck has 141k km, good buy? Are those trucks reliable?
Thats kinda dumb tho cause if you're scared of getting your truck stolen so you leave it running and take the keys out then someone could still steal it since you can drive it with out keys
It also has that little engine shaped orange light on the dash to show you when the engine is running. That's a nice feature Dodge has.
Jesus loves you alot trust in His death 4 salvation and be saved from eternal hell
That's Funny!
It does go off now and then, but not for long.
As a Dakota owner I approve this video
Jesus loves you alot trust in His death 4 salvation and be saved from eternal hell

My 04 has almost 160k on it and i still use it for towing more than its rated for 😂
You've got a scotty Kilmer vibe
Yeah more then Doug Demuro
Its like hoovies garage lmao
Yall didnt know that this is the love child of doug demuro and scotty? They made a scotty demuro kymera.
It’s the hair
Is that a compliment or an insult?
That truck has rear ABS you can see it working in the video. The front locked up and the rear was still spinning.

I love my Dakota. Runs like a top. Never had a single issue with it. I will never get rid of my truck.
Still got it?
hows it doing now?
mine is a base cab. no power locks. I love it. no ignition chip. I love that also. i have 5 keys. mine is a 3.7 base. even easier on gas. It is 4WD and it works great.
Same but mines the old 3.9. Crank windows, manual locks, and 3 seats.
On a scale of 1 to Alberta, how Canadian are you?
Right at the far end of the spectrum nestled into the bin labeled "Small town Alberta"
I recognize that town
On the "hey" factor it's a 1 out out of 10

But it has never left me stranded. I do change the oil every 2,500 miles and have done all the work myself except for the transmission and heater core.
“ its basically a sports truck”😂😂😂 best part
I always thought my ignition was messed up because I was able to pull my key out with it running still .
Fucking same
Me too!!!
I got the same with my 1998 dodge ram
It’s standards on old Chrysler’s and dodges
I just recently picked up a 1999 2WD Dakota, with an extended cab, 6' bed (I think, but I haven't measured it), and the slow as hell 3.9L v6. GO DODGE DAKOTA!!!!!! I have a 2004 dodge dakota
roxas Gx I have a 2001
I have a 98
I have a 2004 with 321,000 on her still running strong plenty of power
These kids are so young they are confused and expecting features that came out in the late 90’s.
Funny video. I have a 5.9l Quad cab and I love it. These are getting hard to find now with no rust. Mine pulls my 21' camper pretty well. And well, for an old truck its never let me down.

how many km
You talk canadian you look like Scotty kilmer and your using a doug score
THE TRIFECTA!!
That rust probably got even worse sadly, hope the guy took care of it.
Don't know about yours .. I have a 2002 dakota 4x4 quad cab and mine has abs .and mine will hit 60 in no time. Are you sure you're driving a 4.7 dakota.
Fr my 4.7 was old and beat up but it still scats ass
My dodge Dakota is quick with a nice glass pack
I'm willing to bet that engine is burnt. I have a 2003 with the 4.7 and slow it is not.
Dan Rein I had a Dakota with the 5.9 Magnum she was faster than my friends 4.7 and his wasn’t slow . I miss it.
Yeah dakotas are fast dude I have the 5.2 and it will throw you back in ur seat pretty good
I can say this video is absolutely true. I can stll remember as a kid going on road trips and fishing in my grandpa's, the truck is still perfect in 2023
I’m buying a 04 v6 Dakota and I’ve been doing research on this truck. This is the best video so far 👍
Did u get it ?
Only bad thing about this Dakota is the rust on the fenders
they love rust everywhere
Robert Swift ew
i just love it when people take everything so seriously. great video! Made me laff big time.
Glad to hear you enjoyed the video!
Rumor says it’s coming back for 2021/22
Man, I love my 02 dakota, manual swapped and it has the 3.9l v6, shes a great truck!
I have an 02 as well, V6, it has been great, but would like a bigger motor i n her.
@@rainmaker3700 i get what you mean, a little more kick never hurt anyone lol, especially in a dakota, keep on keeping on man!
I have a 4.7 2000 dodge Dakota sport. And I fully agree BEST TRUCK EVER
I’m driving a Dakota rn that has over 300k miles and it still starts up and runs like it’s brand new
The hair gets a score of 10 out of ten. Would recommend to a friend
Also peep the profile picture😉 I got one too, 235k on the body and 18k on the new motor swap I did with the 5.9 magnum. Super fun to make videos with. (Not trying to plug😅)
I thought the key coming out when on was just my trucking being damaged lol
Mayerthorpe! Played a lot of hockey there.
Big snow just hit
I was sideways everywhere in my 02.
Very solid truck💪🏿💯
I approve. I drive an 06’ 4.7l v8 slt, and the only issues I’ve found with it so far is the breaks wear as any other cars would. Though I literally get 8.2 MPG, it’s a thirsty ho, but she looks and feels good and reliable no matter where or when.
It didn't do 0-60 fast because you cant test that in the snow
mines a 2000 and has ABS? Also i swear mine picks up to 80-100 km like nothing and is a 4.7.
Very reliable 6/10 huh? My 98 Dakota v6 3.9L Magnum has 380k miles never replaced anything besides suspension parts brakes and oil since I bought it new it deserves more than 6/10
Oh good, I started to worry about my 2002 Quad Cab V6 has already 278K...
I got a 06 Dakota. I love it. The key thing is common with dodge vehicles. Had a 98 caravan and my 06 Dakota keys come out with it running
You have to replace your key ignition if you can pull it out of your ignition cuz mine doesn't do that unless it's broken I've had cars that have done that many of times before but you have to replace the ignition and the 4.7 l has more problems than anything
My favorite Dakota review on UA-cam
I have a 03 Dakota and man she is a work horse truck is a beast
Does this truck ever exist around Lethbridge? I always see one that looks exactly like this. I own one myself, and they’re one of my favourite vehicles so I always examine them a little when I see them.
You still see then around from time to time, I've got an older one I need to get back on the road soon
Honestly thought my truck was broken when I pulled the key out and it kept running lol
It was a recall on em from 02 to 04 I believe. My 02 used to do it until I swapped out the engine which the new steering column had the recall done.
My '94 Silverado does the same thing.
Dodge has always been the last automaker to adopt the idiotic features that complicate our lives🤓🐒
I will tell you that the fact the rear doors don't unlock with when it goes in park is the single most annoying part of my truck. Love it still! :)
Of course it has ABS lol. It’s probably just harder for y’all to brake and get the truck to stop with all that snow in Canada lol
Man I love Dodge Dakota's they are cool
Love my 03 Dakota 4.7 quad cab.
I'm confused cause my Dakota is one of fastest trucks I've driven and it has the 4.7 too🤔
Same. 2004 4.7 with 67000 miles.
@@jlargent7273 Same,4.7 V8 130k.
lol same here 00 dakota 4.7l V8 40k miles on new engine and it is a pretty fast truck
Both my 95 dodge caravan and 91 plymouth voyager van could be started the same way with out the key. The key switch locks were pretty weak for some reason, but comes in handy when you lose your key, just dont look it lmfao.
i have a 94 4.9 v6 with 330,000 miles
Got a 2005 dakota that's has the same key thing. Prolly worn out but like hey still starts and won't get stolen
Wow 32K views, I'm impressed.
I don't think this is clickbait either.
It's just clever satire.
People are getting bent out of shape in the comment section because they don't have a sense of humor.
-Chuck
Some people take some things way too seriously lol I love the Scotty Kilmer comments though hahahaha
The best purchase I ever made 1998 dodge dakota 4x4
Haha great video man thanks alot 🙏 definitely enjoyed it
Awesome! Glad to hear you enjoyed it!
Going to have to say Dodge Dakota it's a small truck but it does quite a bit more than S10 or a Mazda pickup truck whatever do
It does have ABS. The sensor is in the rear diff though.
Just needs a Flowmaster Super 10
Holy Alberta. Take 'er for a rip there bud.
Scott Kilmer gives a Doug score.
They will never make these trucks the same, they will be these expensive luxury things. I hope if it comes back it is like this with the front split bench seating and column shifter. Very basic and not luxurious!
Wow the rear end is a little squirrely in the snow in a pick up truck. Holy shit!!!!!
it has the same design as the 1994 to 2001 rams
Ya the driver only unlock door feature is fine with me.
Live in the hood really don’t need all the doors unlocking with out my consent

It also needs spark plugs it’s idling low and your gonna need to replace a lifter sooner or later
Are you the canadian doug demero?

It's so funny how you look like Scotty Kilmer
Yes. I have my Dakota 2001 4.7 n looks like new with 89.000 miles
got a 1989 long bed V6 Dakota. Love it to death

I really thought this was Scotty kilmers son lol 😂
Nice job..I got 2003 4.7. Dakota it is a little beast..300.000. Great for snow removal downtown Toronto.
is it still going
The Dakota is what got me from chevy into dodges but i leggit have a question. I know theres Dakotas who have a V8 engine, but so do the Rams why get a small V8 instead of the full size truck???
I had a single cab 5 speed and I go like a scalded ape
In the world? Nah, screw that noise, this is the best truck in the heccing universe!
Lots of trucks do the lock thing i know my ford f350 2005 does that
That was a more reasonable doug score for how satirical this video is
Check engine light is always on but keeps running forever
Is there a was to lock the trunk door ???
mine would put in the seat mines a high output it fun to drive
I'm looking at a 09 dodge dakota with the 3.7 l v6 and the 4 speed automatic. I had a 5.7 l hemi ram years ago and it was a pig on gas but I've been told the v6 doesnt actually do mutch better? Also the truck has 141k km, good buy? Are those trucks reliable?
What happens when you put rack and pinion steering in a mid size truck.
Thumbs down for stealing Doug DeMuro shtick.
I agree. Damn canadians. They are cool otherwise
I've been holding onto one for years, no one understands.
Thats kinda dumb tho cause if you're scared of getting your truck stolen so you leave it running and take the keys out then someone could still steal it since you can drive it with out keys
