Saint-Saëns - Danse Macabre

- Danse macabre, Op. 40, is a tone poem for orchestra, written in 1874 by French composer Camille Saint-Saëns. It started out in 1872 as an art song for voice and piano with a French text by the poet Henri Cazalis, which is based in an old French superstition. In 1874, the composer expanded and reworked the piece into a tone poem, replacing the vocal line with a solo violin.

Who else heard this when they were young? When I was about 8 or 9 I was watching this video of some sort of skellington king raise it's minions from the ground? I dunno, I was young at the time so I didn't really get what was happening, all I knew was that was the most coolest, most amusing, most awesome video I ever watched.
That video is somewhere around here on youtube still I think.
Maybe It is Chernabog.

In the Netherlands we have a theme park called Efteling and there is one attraction that sounds like what you are describing, so I'm not totally sure anyhow the name is Spookslot! Hope you found what you were looking for!
Is this what you're thinking of?

2nd grade, I shall never forget, the teacher wanted us to hear classics. Laurie
I may be alone in this but this song makes me feel like a young squirrel in the forest just doing squirrel stuff then I'm spotted by a hunter who gives chase and through this chase I find new beauty in the land and find a new love and a rush of good and bad is happening simultaneously. Run on sentence for effect. I love the strange things classical music can do to one and not another.. This music is all about interpretation
You have a lot of imagination Lol... :)
I like your imagination haha
It’s technically romantic music but still cool imagination
I'm pretty sure the song is supposed to be about dead people rising from their graves to dance or something like that. I mean, the title does translate to, "Dance of the Dead."
@@INTJulius Indeed, the piece is about the devil playing his fiddle to summon the dead, with whom he dances until dawn. Note the 12 harp plucks at the start to symbolize a clocktower hitting midnight, the repeated tritones in the violin (devil's interval), and after the finale the oboe mimicking a rooster's morning cry.
This is just plainly marvelous.
For someone who hates dancing, I wish I could dance with someone to this
Let's go

Am I imagining a Spanish flavor to Danse Macabre? The harmonies, the varying tempo and the contrasting light and dark tones suggest it.
Bello
Nice song
In search of original material. Awesome transitions.
I was looking for a shovel knight song, but this is just as good ngl
Amazing.
This song will exhaust you if you dance it.
Isn't that really the point, though?
Can someone tell me who's the conductor? I truly live this interpretation...
I think it's the (now disbanded) National Philharmonic Orchestra's rendition, with Leopold Stokowski as its conductor :)
Hope that helps!
It's in the title.
@@christinahamilton7676 that's the composer, there's a difference
Ah, the good old days where its not so hard to hunt.

I like to get rat-ass drunk and listen to classical music. When I'm sober I listen to heavy metal. I'm that guy...
Many yrs ago I was told that composer was waking from sleep and saw a dark figure at his bed and said play your violin 🎻 as I play it im the devil , this is my song. Play as I play it
Who is the Orchestra ?
The National Philharmonic Orchestra. Leopold Stokowski is the conductor
*Fantasia 2000 Bought me here*
I heard this song first in het spookslot in de Efteling... can't listen to this whilst not thinking about that...
Happy Halloween!! 🎃
Welche tonart ist das?
Laut Wikipedia müsste es g-Moll sein.
Why does this remind me of Disney and Donald Duck? It sounds so familiar.
There was a Disney animated short where Mickey and Minnie were Hansel and Gretel. The entire short was without dialogue, entirely set to this song. Maybe that's it?
@@griffin.greene Maybe. Though, I could have sworn it was Donald and something Halloween related. But it was so long ago that the memories are probably started to merge.
@@TheOneBearded Donald duck starred in a different Halloween short called "Trick or Treat". That short, and "Hansel and Gretel", were both aired in the same episode of the "Mickey's House of Mouse" Halloween special (which was titled "Mickey's House of Villains"). That's the only connection I can think of. I have fond memories of that episode!
@@griffin.greene I guess those memories really did merge. I know the Donald one came from House of Mouse and that it had more of a modern animation than the older Disney cartoons, so it couldn't have been one of the older ones. I looked up "Hansel and Gretel" and it is exactly what I was thinking. For some reason, I thought "Trick or Treat" was the mute one with just the track. This mystery has finally been solved! Only took 8 years..... Very much appreciated.
@@TheOneBearded OH!! There IS another short with Donald Duck in that episode. It's called "Donald Duck's Halloween Scare", look it up. That one does have a newer animation style. Maybe that's the one lol. I hope this helps!
