Elder Maxwell called the empty places in our souls, "holding spaces." And he so appropriately recognized that events or experiences which cause us depths of grief beyond compare, carve out these holding places in our souls which one day will be filled with commensurate joy as profound as was our grief. He had a way with words, Elder Maxwell did. I sure miss his incredible insights and ability to express. But Dave and Emily, I love your videos! I love the insights you each share. I learn so much from you and am so grateful for your lessons! Thank you, thank you, thank you! I can't thank you enough for the impact and influence for good that you have in the world!!!!
This quote I will share seems fitting with this lesson. My late brother wrote these words to comfort his sister-in-law through the loss of a friend, just 4 months before he himself passed away from a car crash caused by a drunk driver. His words rang true for us as well, as we dealt with his passing. And they seem to fit with the idea you are talking about - the empty space that Hannah had. He said “I can only hope and know that some how, this stuff that digs so deep within us can then allow for more joy and peace to fill up in its place and then, and only then, make it capable to enlarge our capacity to find greater amounts of love and happiness in our present existence and in the future.” (And we like to add…. ‘And in the eternities’) Shawn O. Thank you. I appreciate all the time and sacrifice that went into preparing well enough to present this lesson. Some day, I hope to be as scripturally learned and wise as you two. Thank you for helping me prepare to teach my non-member mother. Thank you.
Thanks for helping the heroes in scriptures come alive. As I listened to you with my daughter, she mentioned mom this person is like you or this is like me etc. Thanks for helping her see how we can apply the scriptures to our lives!
I love this lesson so much! I have truly fallen in love with the Old Testament this year! I identify with Hannah soooo much and am so grateful for learning more about her story! Thank you!
I’ve always loved the story of Hannah and Samuel {I’ve never had a problem with infertility, so I don’t know her pain}. I wanted always to present our sons at the Temple. 3 of our 4 boys served missions and each time they went to the temple for the first time, I felt like Hannah. In the case of our 4th son {the baby}… we took him to the Temple as well, to present him to Father in Heaven for Service. After his call to Taiwan Taipei, the mission president asked us to write a letter of introduction of Connor to them… they wanted a little insight to who he was. At the close of the letter the last paragraph read: April 26th 2014 “We truly feel much like Hannah of the Old Testament in presenting to you (and Father in Heaven) our baby boy… do with him as you and Father in Heaven see fit… may he be a blessing to those he serves and as obedient as Samuel…” The Lord DID have a special mission for him… and saw “fit” to call him HOME, along with his companion {carbon monoxide}. That isn’t quite what we meant in the letter, but we also know it was HIS Devine plan for Connor & his companion to return home to that God who gave him life… and we were OK with it even though it was {and still is} heartbreaking.
Thank you for sharing your heartbreaking experience. I love your great strength, courage and faith. Your son has wonderful and good parents, willing to give all that they have been blessed with.
Wow Cindy- what an experience. Your heart gave him to service and it sounds like you will give him (and God) permission to continue serving. Thank you for sharing and showing a modern day Hannah Heart.
I love your videos-every single one! I learn so much each week. For the record, I like the longer lessons! I could be taught by you two for hours and hours! Thank you!
When I was studying these chapters, I thought of all the podcasts I listen to and I KNEW that Don't Miss This would be the podcast that I needed to hear this week! Thank you, thank you, and thank you!
I love this so much! I also love that you post these videos every week! It's things like this that change the world for the better! I was reading from The Book of Mormon the other day (probably night) and came across this verse that I loved so much!: "And thus they were instruments in the hands of God in bringing many to the knowledge of the truth, yea, to the knowledge of their Redeemer. And how blessed are they! For they did publish peace; they did publish good tidings of good; and they did declare unto the people that the Lord reigneth." You're doing an amazing job of this. P.S. Brother Butler, I've read "Almighty" and am in the middle of reading "Redeemer" and "The Peter Potential" and I have been loving them so much so thank you for your beautiful words! I've already learned so much!

I loved this lesson! Thank you for making the lesson applicable to our day. David’s comments about being flirty and Instagram were funny and relatable. 😀
If I heard you write the marism... Would relate to the request of Naomi to be called Mara ........ so she could be blessed in the Marism spectrum......and then she lived as if. So we see that the root meanings of ....Mara , Maria , ....does not mean only bitter,... it means seekeng to be blessed, expecting in faith to be blessed ... as well as acknoledging the empty ....just like Mary and Mariam and Mariam and Maria are all related words to Mary the mother of Christ who is blessed but she had pain for her son Jesus who was crucified. But she was blessed not bitter forever.

THANIK YOU SOOOO MUCH! I have loved your video. It was SO GOOD. Regarding Anna not having children and being regarded differently. Is not it the same today regarding the sisters who are not married or who have no children. They are considered as lower class by some. I know one sister who is single and who was told that she was not a woman because of that. She was told that she did not know what it was to have worries, because she was not married. So... I am afraid that, nowadays, some have the same attitude than the hebrews in Anna's time toward those who are barren.
That is what farmers do, everyday we go out to supervise and work with the employees to see that it is done properly. This is our gathering of our whole YEARS income. Of course Boaz would b out in his fields.
Gday! from the Riverina Australia Stake in South Eastern Australia. I am not up to this video yet. But, can you tell me which Edersheim books you are referring too back in the "Come Follow Me Old Testament Genesis 37-41 (Mar. 7-13) Don't Miss This" video. I know that Bruce R McConkie references Edersheim in The Mortal Messiah volumes, and James E Talmage in Jesus the Christ. OH OH You just quoted from Edersheim at Time Stamp 3:45. I know of Edersheim, however, not read any of his works directly, so I would like to read some of his work which is important to us in our context. I realise it is all important. However, if you could let us know the best works for us to read and reference. I would be so grateful. Thank you both for all your hard work. Emily you are so wonderful we are so blessed to have you teaching us, as well as being a great example of a grandparent to those of us just starting out in that job. You are so patient for working with that giant teenager, David. David you are such a wonderful example of how to be a cool Dad. You are so much fun, understanding, and kind, as well as down to earth. There is so much info in your lessons I hope, and pray, you will be able to plan for a second round when we start back at the beginning of the Standard works. Again thank you both so much :-)
Funny it's called 1 Samuel and 2 Samuel when David is the main person who's story is told... 1 Samuel 1/1 Now there was a certain man of Ramathaim Zophim, of the hill country of Ephraim, and his name was Elkanah, the son of Jeroham, the son of Elihu, the son Tohu, the son of Zuph, an Ephrathite [Of Ephraim] Look, the lying pen of the scribes has certainly worked deceit - Jeremiah 8/8.... 1 Sam 1 is the same people in 1 chronicles 6/26-27, 34/35 1 Chronicles 6/26 As for Elkanah, the sons of Elkanah were his son Zophai [Zuph], and his son Nahath [Tohu], 27 his son Eliab [Elihu], his son Jeroham, his son Elkanah. 1 Chronicles 6/34 the son of Elkanah, the son of Jeroham, the son of Eliel [Elihu], the son of Toah [Tohu], 35 the son of Zuph, the son of Elkanah 1 Samuel 1/2 and he [Elkanah] had two wives. The name of one was Hannah [David], and the name of the other Peninnah [Saul], 1 Samuel 1/19 And they rose early in the morning and worshiped before Yahweh, and they returned and came to their house in Ramah, and Elkanah knew Hannah his wife, and Yahweh remembered her. 20 And so it arose in the course of time that Hannah conceived, and she gave birth to a son, and she called his name Samuel 1 Chronicles 6/28 And the sons of Samuel were Vashni the firstborn, and Abiah was the second. [Only placed I've found in scriptures were Vashni is used, it's a lie, Judahites trying to stump us with the lying pen of the scribes jer 8/8] 1 Samuel 8/1 And it came to pass, when Samuel was old, that he made his sons judges over Israel. 2 Now the name of his firstborn was Joel, and the name of his second, Abiah [Joel is a lie, it's a cover up to say David is tribe of Judah but we should all know he is the house of Joseph which is Ephraim and Manasseh] 1 Samuel 9/27[last verse of chapter] As they were going down to the end of the city, Samuel said to Saul, 'Tell the servant to pass on before us' - and He passed on - 'but stand still now, so that I can show you the word of Elohim.' 10/1 Then Samuel took a flask of oil and poured it on his head, and he kissed him, and he said, 'Is it not because Yahweh has anointed you captain over His inheritance? [Saul was anointed king] 1 Samuel 12/1 And Samuel said to all Israel, 'Now, I have listened to your voice in everything you said to me, and I have appointed a king [Saul] over you. 2 And now, as you see, the King walks before you, and I am old and grey-headed and, look, my sons are with you, and I have walked before you from my childhood until this day 2 Samuel 21/21 and when he reproached Israel, Jonathan, the son of Shimea [1 Chronicles 6/30], the brother of David, killed him. [Shimea is Shammah at 1 Sam 16/9...Jeremiah 8/8 How can you say, 'We are wise and the law of Yahweh is with us? Look, the lying pen of the scribes has certainly worked deceit. 9 The wise are ashamed; they are dismayed and captured; look, they have rejected the word of Yahweh - yet what wisdom is in them? ......alot of the genealogy names are tampered with but enough is their to figure it out...why would books mainly about David be called Samuel and begin like a parable from Jesus? "Now there was a certain man"] Isaiah 11/1 But a shoot will come out of the stump of Jesse, and a branch out of its roots will bear fruit, 2 and the Spirit of Yahweh will rest over him: the Spirit of Wisdom and Discernment, the Spirit of Counsel and Might, The Spirit of Knowledge, and of the Reverence of Yahweh. [Elkanah had 2 wives 1 Sam 1/2 sometimes woman are called sons in genealogies too doesn't always say daughter] 1 Chronicles 6/22 The sons of Kohath were his son Amminadab, his son Korah, his son Assir, 23 his son Elkanah, and his son Ebiasaph, and his son Assir, 24 his son Tahath, his son Uriel, his son Uzziah, and his son Saul. 25 And the sons of Elkanah were Amasai, and Ahimoth. 26 As for Elkanah, the sons of Elkanah were his son Zophai, and his son Nahath, his son Eliab, his son Jeroham, his son Elkanah. [educated guess because Vashni is a lie] 28 And the sons of Samuel were Jesse the firstborn, and Abiah was the second. 29 The sons of Merari were Mahli, his son Libni, his son Shimei, his son Uzza, 30 his son Shimea, his son Haggiah, his son Asaiah. 31 And these are those whom David set in charge of the arrangement of song in the House of Yahweh, after the Ark had come to rest. 32 And they served before the Tabernacle of the Tent of Meeting with singing, until Solomon built the House of Yahweh in Shiloh, and then they served in their office according to their order. 33 And these are those who stood with their sons: Of the sons of the Kohathites, Heman a singer, the son of Jesse, the son of Samuel, 34 the son of Elkanah, the son of Jeroham, the son of Eliel, the son of Toah, 35 the son of Zuph, the son of Elkanah These genealogies are so messed with yet not all are changed they are just concerned about hiding the ugliness of Judah and hiding the messiah's so which names should we use, 1 Sam 1 "Tohu" 1 chron 6/26 "Nahath"? You know David has a son named Shimea too 2 Sam 9/1 And David said, 'Is there anyone still left from the house[tribe] of Saul, so that I might show him favour on account of Jonathan? [2 Sam 21/7] 2 And there was a servant of the house of Saul whose name was Ziba. And when they had called him to David, the king said to him, 'Are you Ziba?' And he said, 'Your servant!' 3 And the king said, 'Is there not still a man of the house of Saul, so that I might show the favour of Elohim to him? And Ziba said to the king, 'There is still a son of Jonathan, lame of foot.' 4 And the king said to him, 'Where is he?' And Ziba said to the king, 'Well, He is in the house[tribe] of Machir[of Gilead of Manasseh], the son of Ammiel [the Mother, dad Jonathan is dead], in Lodebar.' 5 Then king David sent word, and he brought him out of the house of Machir, the son of Ammiel, from Lo Debar. 6 Now when Mephibosheth, the son of Jonathan, the son of Saul, came to David 2 Samuel 17/27...Machir, the son of Ammiel of Lo Debar, and Barzillai the Gileadite 1 chronicles 7/14 The sons of Manasseh were Ashriel, to whom his concubine the Aramitess gave birth to Machir, the father of Gilead I wish the scriptures weren't tampered with by jews these things would be easy for everyone to find out then David is Ephraim and Saul very clearly is Manasseh 1 Sam 18/7..'Saul has killed his thousands and David his tens of thousands. . . . . 'these are the ten thousands of Ephraim and these are the thousands of Manasseh.' - Deut 33/17 1 Sam 9/21 and Saul answered, and he said, 'Am I not a Manassehite, of the smallest of the tribes of Israel, and my family the least of all the families of the tribe of Joseph? Deuteronomy 3/13 half tribe of Manasseh Deuteronomy 28/8 half tribe of Manasseh Joshua 12/6 the half tribe of Manasseh Joshua 13/7 the half tribe of Manasseh Joshua 13/29 And Moses gave an inheritance to the half tribe of Manasseh, and for the half tribe of the sons of Manasseh in their families Joshua 21/5 the half tribe of Manasseh Joshua 21/6 the half tribe of Manasseh Joshua 21/25 the half tribe of Manasseh Joshua 21/27 the half tribe of Manasseh Joshua 22/1 the half tribe of Manasseh Joshua 22/9,10,11,13,15,21 [u guessed it] the half tribe of Manasseh 1 chronicles 5/23 the half tribe of Manasseh 1 chronicles 5/26 the half tribe of Manasseh 1 chronicles 6/61,70,71 the half tribe of Manasseh 1 chronicles 12/31,37 the half tribe of Manasseh 1 chronicles 26/32 the half tribe of Manasseh 1 chronicles 27/20,21 the half tribe of Manasseh Sounds alot like Manasseh is the smallest tribe not the lie Jewish scribes snuck into the verse says Benjamite and Benjamin in 1 Samuel 9/21 which makes no sense of course he would be Benjamin if he was a Benjamite only Joseph got the double portion blessings of Ephraim and Manasseh which together are the families of Joseph
Love the idea of “pouring out”, and curious what the future assignments were. Also love the live as if principle, I have tried to share that with a friend who is very depressed, to help her look forward and believe in the possibilities God has in store, that we sometimes have to wait for.

"Emptiness led to the events that filled them up." DB We better appreciate the 'filled up", when we have experienced the empty first.

Please be looooong don't be short... if you need to cut time please do it with your advertisements😊
Will you guys be doing more tip ins for the second half of the old testament??
That is what farmers do, everyday we go out to supervise and work with the employees to see that it is done properly. This is our gathering of our whole YEARS income. Of course Boaz would b out in his fields.
Ah, Ruth from Moab..aka “the hood” One of the most relatable lessons Brother Butler taught at UVU😂
Gday! from the Riverina Australia Stake in South Eastern Australia.
Again thank you both so much :-)
The number 6 in Hebrew means miracle.
I wonder if barley means something too.
Oh it was the main food / grain for the poor
Miracles for the poor
Thank you for the shorter video....leaves me more time to study

That's funny about Orpa because that was supposed to be Opras name but the nanny spelled it wrong so she became Opra.
10:55 I think we should make it normal to tell people to call us a name that we are focusing on - maybe not bitter though 😆
Lol David is hilarious!
"Jenkiest" lol havent heard that word in ages!
The ribbon banner is covering up the board. 😢
The board needs to be clearer and better ..it use to be but lately it isn't 😭😭😭😭😭

44 heroes… is there a video? For All 44?
They are covering all 44 over the summer.
Funny it's called 1 Samuel and 2 Samuel when David is the main person who's story is told...
1 Samuel 1/1 Now there was a certain man of Ramathaim Zophim, of the hill country of Ephraim, and his name was Elkanah, the son of Jeroham, the son of Elihu, the son Tohu, the son of Zuph, an Ephrathite [Of Ephraim]
Look, the lying pen of the scribes has certainly worked deceit - Jeremiah 8/8.... 1 Sam 1 is the same people in 1 chronicles 6/26-27, 34/35
1 Chronicles 6/26 As for Elkanah, the sons of Elkanah were his son Zophai [Zuph], and his son Nahath [Tohu], 27 his son Eliab [Elihu], his son Jeroham, his son Elkanah.
1 Chronicles 6/34 the son of Elkanah, the son of Jeroham, the son of Eliel [Elihu], the son of Toah [Tohu], 35 the son of Zuph, the son of Elkanah
1 Samuel 1/2 and he [Elkanah] had two wives. The name of one was Hannah [David], and the name of the other Peninnah [Saul],
1 Samuel 1/19 And they rose early in the morning and worshiped before Yahweh, and they returned and came to their house in Ramah, and Elkanah knew Hannah his wife, and Yahweh remembered her.
20 And so it arose in the course of time that Hannah conceived, and she gave birth to a son, and she called his name Samuel
1 Chronicles 6/28 And the sons of Samuel were Vashni the firstborn, and Abiah was the second. [Only placed I've found in scriptures were Vashni is used, it's a lie, Judahites trying to stump us with the lying pen of the scribes jer 8/8]
1 Samuel 8/1 And it came to pass, when Samuel was old, that he made his sons judges over Israel. 2 Now the name of his firstborn was Joel, and the name of his second, Abiah
[Joel is a lie, it's a cover up to say David is tribe of Judah but we should all know he is the house of Joseph which is Ephraim and Manasseh]
1 Samuel 9/27[last verse of chapter] As they were going down to the end of the city, Samuel said to Saul, 'Tell the servant to pass on before us' - and He passed on - 'but stand still now, so that I can show you the word of Elohim.' 10/1 Then Samuel took a flask of oil and poured it on his head, and he kissed him, and he said, 'Is it not because Yahweh has anointed you captain over His inheritance? [Saul was anointed king]
1 Samuel 12/1 And Samuel said to all Israel, 'Now, I have listened to your voice in everything you said to me, and I have appointed a king [Saul] over you. 2 And now, as you see, the King walks before you, and I am old and grey-headed and, look, my sons are with you, and I have walked before you from my childhood until this day
2 Samuel 21/21 and when he reproached Israel, Jonathan, the son of Shimea [1 Chronicles 6/30], the brother of David, killed him.
"Now there was a certain man"]
Isaiah 11/1 But a shoot will come out of the stump of Jesse, and a branch out of its roots will bear fruit, 2 and the Spirit of Yahweh will rest over him: the Spirit of Wisdom and Discernment, the Spirit of Counsel and Might, The Spirit of Knowledge, and of the Reverence of Yahweh. [Elkanah had 2 wives 1 Sam 1/2 sometimes woman are called sons in genealogies too doesn't always say daughter]
1 Chronicles 6/22 The sons of Kohath were his son Amminadab, his son Korah, his son Assir, 23 his son Elkanah, and his son Ebiasaph, and his son Assir, 24 his son Tahath, his son Uriel, his son Uzziah, and his son Saul.
25 And the sons of Elkanah were Amasai, and Ahimoth. 26 As for Elkanah, the sons of Elkanah were his son Zophai, and his son Nahath, his son Eliab, his son Jeroham, his son Elkanah. [educated guess because Vashni is a lie]
28 And the sons of Samuel were Jesse the firstborn, and Abiah was the second.
33 And these are those who stood with their sons:
Of the sons of the Kohathites, Heman a singer, the son of Jesse, the son of Samuel, 34 the son of Elkanah, the son of Jeroham, the son of Eliel, the son of Toah, 35 the son of Zuph, the son of Elkanah
These genealogies are so messed with yet not all are changed they are just concerned about hiding the ugliness of Judah and hiding the messiah's so which names should we use, 1 Sam 1 "Tohu" 1 chron 6/26 "Nahath"? You know David has a son named Shimea too
2 Sam 9/1 And David said, 'Is there anyone still left from the house[tribe] of Saul, so that I might show him favour on account of Jonathan? [2 Sam 21/7]
2 And there was a servant of the house of Saul whose name was Ziba. And when they had called him to David, the king said to him, 'Are you Ziba?'
And he said, 'Your servant!'
3 And the king said, 'Is there not still a man of the house of Saul, so that I might show the favour of Elohim to him?
And Ziba said to the king, 'There is still a son of Jonathan, lame of foot.'
4 And the king said to him, 'Where is he?'
And Ziba said to the king, 'Well, He is in the house[tribe] of Machir[of Gilead of Manasseh], the son of Ammiel [the Mother, dad Jonathan is dead], in Lodebar.'
5 Then king David sent word, and he brought him out of the house of Machir, the son of Ammiel, from Lo Debar. 6 Now when Mephibosheth, the son of Jonathan, the son of Saul, came to David
2 Samuel 17/27...Machir, the son of Ammiel of Lo Debar, and Barzillai the Gileadite
1 chronicles 7/14 The sons of Manasseh were Ashriel, to whom his concubine the Aramitess gave birth to Machir, the father of Gilead
I wish the scriptures weren't tampered with by jews these things would be easy for everyone to find out then David is Ephraim and Saul very clearly is Manasseh
1 Sam 18/7..'Saul has killed his thousands and David his tens of thousands. . . . . 'these are the ten thousands of Ephraim and these are the thousands of Manasseh.' - Deut 33/17
1 Sam 9/21 and Saul answered, and he said, 'Am I not a Manassehite, of the smallest of the tribes of Israel, and my family the least of all the families of the tribe of Joseph?
Deuteronomy 3/13 half tribe of Manasseh
Deuteronomy 28/8 half tribe of Manasseh
Joshua 12/6 the half tribe of Manasseh
Joshua 13/7 the half tribe of Manasseh
Joshua 13/29 And Moses gave an inheritance to the half tribe of Manasseh, and for the half tribe of the sons of Manasseh in their families
Joshua 21/5 the half tribe of Manasseh
Joshua 21/6 the half tribe of Manasseh
Joshua 21/25 the half tribe of Manasseh
Joshua 21/27 the half tribe of Manasseh
Joshua 22/1 the half tribe of Manasseh
Joshua 22/9,10,11,13,15,21 [u guessed it] the half tribe of Manasseh
1 chronicles 5/23 the half tribe of Manasseh
1 chronicles 5/26 the half tribe of Manasseh
1 chronicles 6/61,70,71 the half tribe of Manasseh
1 chronicles 12/31,37 the half tribe of Manasseh
1 chronicles 26/32 the half tribe of Manasseh
1 chronicles 27/20,21 the half tribe of Manasseh
Sounds alot like Manasseh is the smallest tribe not the lie Jewish scribes snuck into the verse says Benjamite and Benjamin in 1 Samuel 9/21 which makes no sense of course he would be Benjamin if he was a Benjamite only Joseph got the double portion blessings of Ephraim and Manasseh which together are the families of Joseph
In the workbook why is Hannah's picture a pair of shorts? Haha
U
Love the idea of “pouring out”, and curious what the future assignments were. Also love the live as if principle, I have tried to share that with a friend who is very depressed, to help her look forward and believe in the possibilities God has in store, that we sometimes have to wait for.
