I just read some comments and I would like to reiterate what Melaney Dees said. "Truly Heavenly Father has blessed you both with a gift. You have me in tears and then 5 minutes later, I'm laughing." I will add that I thank Heavenly Father every morning in my prayers that he has put you both in my path. You bring the scriptures to life and it's like being right there when things are happening. I too love you both and do thank you for "being teachers of valor." Melaney said it so well. Thank you Melaney.😁
I loved what you said about the rhythms of the ocean and likened it to Naaman's story. Waves in the ocean produce negative ions (read up on what they produce in the body. It's not "negative" at all!). Moving water produces negative ions. It really is therapeutic. Knowing this goes perfectly with what you were getting across with the rhythms in our lives.

Another homerun. (David speak for a great lesson) We got some not so great news recently of something that happened at our house while we were on vacation. And our car we were driving in was acting up. And finances were running tight. In the midst of all of that I had a "Here Come The Blessings" moment. I do not see the resolution of any of it yet, but I know they are coming. God Bless.
Hi! I love hearing your podcasts and seeing the channel when I can’t hear the podcast. As you were reading and commenting on 2 Kings 2: 2,4,6. I also thought about how in 1Kings 17-19 Elijah kept saying he was the only one left. Which shows maybe he felt alone in doing God’s work. So now that he has Elisha, he wants him there. To feel supported and less lonely. Thanks so much for all you do! Have a great week!
I noticed the podcast upload for this week is actually a repeat from 2nd Samuel and not 2 Kings 2-7! I’m probably the millionth person to comment on it but I thought I’d let you know just in case. I listen every week while I’m in the gym so I’d love to see this episode up on the podcast 💙 thank you for these commentaries. I’m in primary in my ward and your lessons are so helpful for me in my teaching and in my own understanding of the scriptures.
Sorry for the delay! I've been in the thick of moving to the Middle East, so I'm behind on my duties. But the Time Stamps are posted now. Thanks for your patience!
You guys have been to the wrong part of the Jordan River. I saw a movie of a trip down the Jordan. At its start, the Jordan is clear, clean, fresh, and lush vegetation on the banks. As you travel south and get closer to the Dead Sea, the salt starts to affect and pollute the river. It darkens, life in its waters decrease and vegetation on the banks dwindles and disappears. Next time, go to its source. Unless they have polluted the Sea of Galilee, the waters start fresh.
The natural man in me would wonder, why are you guys so happy. All. The. Time? I would ask because I get the same responses from people. Do you annoy people? Do people have a hard time relating? Does your family have a community? Love your videos. They uplift my home.
Oh, you guys, I am such a slacker. When I hear the story of the Shunamite woman, I feel like a slacker, and so far behind and so small and unworthy. My story is similar: longed for a child, was older Abt 35 , was blessed with a son, two sons. 1st born, from 13-16 yrs fought brain cancer, but the prophet did not heal him. He died Dec 17, 2009. I did not then nor now say All is Well. Husband left me, 2nd son estranged. I am alone, and talk Abt empty. All I have done is not turn away. I keep going, keep trying. I love Father & Jesus & they love me, but oh, my heart.
Thank you both for putting together such consistently wonderful lessons and sharing your insight with the rest of us. Also, you could say mentor and protégé and avoid all thoughts of aquatic mammals. 😉
could you guys do timestamps for the hero's? It really hard to show my family one hero a day when we have to watch the whole video to figure out where each hero starts. :) Thanks!
@@kalykarily sorry for the delay! I'm right in the middle of moving from Europe to the Middle East, but trying to catch up today. Thanks for your patience!
I wouldn’t mind hearing other peoples take on this too. My thoughts are- we believe the bible as far as it is translated correctly, and that story has myth vibes. Like it’s a cautionary tale mothers tell children to remind them not to insult others and somewhere along the line got included in scripture. I may be totally wrong though.
Another channel I follow, Book of Mormon Central Come Follow Me Insights, covers that story for this week's lesson. They are a couple of BYU professors and I love coupling Emily and David's videos with theirs to enhance my study. They talk about how the "children" were actually probably more like teens (based on the Hebrew words) and the way in which they were mocking implies they were aware they were mocking what ought to be holy. Hair, both the word in Hebrew and what it symbolically represented, was connected to the idea of power (e.g. Elijah and Samson, powerful men in their own ways, were noted for their hair) and the mind. The story seems very harsh in our time and perspective, but maybe their explanation will help.
I've never seen the river Jordan but I Googled it... people are going there to be baptised, and interestingly, Prince Charles and Duchess Camilla went there to fetch water for Royal baptisms. So I think it might be purer in some spots... maybe the dirty water you're seeing is all the sins that have been washed away in baptisms:-))
Listen to the follow him podcast for this week. It is explained as the people didn't accept his as the prophet compared to Elijah who was a hairy man. Also children could be 40 yrs old men. Super interesting!
My guess would be and it is only my guess that this Podcast is for everyone who believes in The Bible regardless of church affiliation. So we are joining together as a faith community of all kinds of believers. 💚
Emily does a lot of awesome work across faith communities, so maybe it is just a habit she has with some audiences that happened to come out while they were filming this lesson.
Why do you both call it “ our faith community?” Are you not following The Come Follow Me manual of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints? In the interest of sounding more inclusive, aren’t you doing just the opposite of why President Nelson instructed us to use the full name of our church instead of “ Mormon?” The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints put out the manual that is the basis of this entire channel you have . It’s not a non denominational faith community. I’m sure you could teach a non denominational class but this is based on a learning manual of a specific religion.
I love your take in the scriptures, but why do you describe everything as “cute” and “little”? I’m looking for important, majestic, profound, real things in the scriptures. I want more than cute little things and people.
I love how they point out the "littleness" in the heroes or the things in the stories. Because very often the things they represent and accomplish are made to be important, majestic, profound, real things... but only through faith in God and Him aiding them with his power. Certainly we and they are very little, especially compared to the Lord and his omnipotence. That is what makes it so amazing that God extends his power to them and us. The contrast is for a purpose. Another thing is, is sometimes they use the word "cute" or "little" to describe one of God's tender, tiny mercies. It begs the thought that sometimes the smallest and littlest acts are the most important, majestic, profound, real things. It could be a little cake meant to sustain a prophet that seems tiny but held him over physically to continue his miracles. Perhaps it is a nameless woman freely giving service. In the grand scheme of things they are tiny and little... but their effects rippled through all of time to reach us here. By small thing great thing come to pass! I also think that David and Emily just have really tender and sensitive hearts and can't help but gush like that about the things that touch their hearts. But I totally feel your desire for the important, majestic, profound things. I think regardless of how they describe them, they are still happening.
Could also be cultural, I don’t know where you live but I don’t live in the USA, and I see a lot of members online who do describe things as cute when they just mean they like it.

It’s small and has a color to it. Tons of videos on UA-cam. Yes the water is helpful in a desert but, it’s not amazing.
