thank you so much sir to your time,,, I'm from manila sir,,,,GOD BLESS
can i connect 20v good battery to 18v bad battery and fix it?
Thanks for your reply. Agree I think they are dead.
I was so frustrated because my relatively new Dewalt batteries had both gone dead, I used the same principal using a completely different battery, and it revived both of my Dewalt batteries, it’s not often that the hype lives up to the name, but this is the real deal, thank you so much!
My newest battery dies not flash when charging. Just the “2/3” light is solid. This did nothing. Typical. None of this sht ever works in my stuff.
Eeaq
Even worked for my 1200 amp jumper pack. Used a 5amp dewalt battery and did it twice. First time for 10 sec and tried to see if it would charge but it didn’t . Then again for 5 seconds and it then it started accepting charge . Thanks a lot . Great video!
Just bought some brand new 'compatible'M18 batteries and they were dead out of the box and showing as faulty but followed your clear demo and it worked first time. Now to see how long they last when charged.Thank you this was very helpful
I have heard of this repair before but never done it. Well, it worked for me. Thank you. Now I have time to see what other things I can learn from your channel...
This was a last throw of the dice for me before I chucked the battery - and it worked perfectly with my Dewalt 18V FlexVolt XR battery - thanks Brad! 👏👏👏
worked for a Stanley rotary hammer battery. The warranty had replaced one that stopped working and gave me another one that was just as dead. Thank you very much!
One of the most important videos on our (all platforms for that matter) system.
Thanks, man. Quick, clear, and to the point. I had two 5ah batteries die in the last week. Was about to buy a couple more, then googled "revive dead DeWalt Battery" and found your video. Oddly enough, a battery marked "2014" jump started two batteries marked "2019." You just saved me $100+.
I had 2 Porter Cable 18v batteries that were both quickly flashing red on the charger and would not charge. Took a weed whacker battery out of my Black and Decker unit and did what he said and it worked perfectly!!! Quick and easy. Thanks Brad!
Awesome! Happy it worked for ya 👍
So, I have 20/60v flexvolt that will only charge to one bar after being drained. Do I have to jump different lugs on the battery? Should I try it in a 60v? Can I use a 20v batt to jump it!?!?
Brand New used in 20v tool only but now need in 60v.
Thanks!
I had seen this tip before and was a little sceptical, though I understood the principle. I had completely forgotten about it when I discovered one of my two DCN185-XE batteries, the one that had been on the charger for some time, was dead. I spent a chunk of time looking at buying a new one or repairing the old battery. The cells are mostly zero volts or a small negative value, with only one showing 0.85 volts. Otherwise, the cells looked okay. A search found your tip.
Ten seconds with batteries connected, and now the bad one appears to be charging, which it wouldn't before. I'll see if it fully charges.
Thanks for sharing the tip @Hammer and Home.
Got some knock off ones to save $100+ to upgrade the kids’ cars, but they don’t always hit the off switch and it over drained the battery. Did this for like a minute and the “dead” one is now charging. Thank you. Such an easy idea.
I have 7 batteries that would not charge after the winter. I got all of them working but 1. This is a great video and useful as ever. I bet many homeowners put batteries in the garbage that were still good. I have done 18,20, and 40 volt, it worked for them all.
I was very skeptical that this would work. I have a 2ah Dewalt battery barely used and 2 years old. Was going to throw it away and remembered this video from the past. Couldn’t believe worked. Thanks a lot!
That’s great! Happy it helped.
Worked a treat reviving a relatively new battery that had been out in the cold. Thank you!
I rarely comment on UA-cam. But since you saved me a brand new battery it’s the least that I could do! I was so frustrated! Literally out of the pack, and it wouldn’t charge! Thank you so much!
You’re welcome 👍
Worked like a charm. Was skeptical but sure as hell.
WOW ... it worked! I just restored two dead batteries that have been sitting in my garage for years! Fantastic! All I had was lamp cord wire, but still only needed to me jumped for a minute and then returned to life.
Sweet!
Load of shite it doesn't work
This trick worked on my large 40v battery for my dewalt hedge clippers. I used scrap 14/2 insulated electrical wire. A tiny spark woke it up and the battery level checker on the battery flashed green 3 times then i put it on the charger and it charged to full. Battery date 2014. Thanks man.
Excellent video, many thanks. I gambled on some Dewalt batteries at an auction, got them home and none of the 5 worked. Tried your tip, and 3 are working perfectly now thanks; what had been a waste of money has turned into a bargain 😊.
Perfect result and a nice demo showing how long to leave them connected. Thanks for saving my battery!
Thanks and you’re welcome
I owe you a beer!!! My dead battery was moments away from being thrown away!
It’s aliiiive!
Thanks buddy 😊
Total had no clue. Thanks for this video. Just had this issue of dead battery two days ago. Glad I haven’t tossed it yet.
Does this trick restore the battery to its full capacity or just bring it back to a chargeable condition? Thanks
THANKS! I just did this to a Dewalt battery that I knew was in great shape but would not charge. Few seconds and the jump then placed it on the charger and back to life!
awesome
I am from Trinidad and Tobago a twin island state in the Caribbean Islands thanks for teaching us how to jump start our cordless battery it works
What type of wires and gage are recommended for a DeWalt DCB107, 12v/20 v Lithium battery?
Just tried this and it worked a treat, thank you so much for a very helpful video
Can't wait to try this hack on some dead Ryobi batteries I have lying around. Thank you for this great video. You just got yourself another subscriber.
Jumped started my DeWALT 9AH battery, your hack worked Great, Thanks for saving me a lot of money
Holy CARP! I had a Yardworks battery with no charge indicating. I didn't have any wire so I stripped the ends from some bread ties, connected them just like you said. There was a small spark and the bread tie started smoking after just 1-2 seconds. I pulled the ties out and voila, the battery is on the charger and charging! Thanks!
nice! you're welcome
Thanks for this video. It worked on one of my "bad" 20V batteries but I have another one that still will not charge. Do you know what the voltage needs to be for the Dewalt charger to "recognize" the battery and start charging? On my bad one, it read about 12v vs 20.2v on a good one. The jumper trick does not raise the voltage very much at all on the bad one even after trying it several times. Also, I see no spark when I connect the jumper wires. I'm thinking this may be a truly lost cause. I would appreciate any voltage reference points before and after the jumper trick. Thanks
I'm assuming it's 24v to 24v?
I've got 2 blinking green lights on my batt indicator. Won't go to 3 full after 2 days charging
Thanks. It worked for me. Took me less than a minute to do that After charging the dead battery is revived.
I used good 60v batt to jump bad 60v just as shown and battery still not charging. Would this be a bad cell?
I would be very appreciative of your help. I live in Costa Rica where getting a replacement tools isn’t easy.
I have a black Dewalt 7.2V-14.4V NiCad Charger(DW9118) and a black 9.6V Battery Pack Type 1 (DW9061). The charger shows a red rapidly blinking light when the battery is inserted. However the battery appears dead and doesn’t charge.
Where is the problem and what should I do to save the battery? Can this be fixed without buying a new one?
I've had an issue with the smaller 24v kobalt batteries randomly dying, I thought it was the 24v tire pump because of it being the last tool I used with them.
Today I had one go out and I decided to use this trick - sparked like mad and the small wires I used got hot - but it went from all 4 bars flashing to just one!
It's sitting on the quick charger right now charging just fine when it wouldn't even register it 5 minutes ago.
Thanks!
Happy to have helped! Thanks for sharing
Thank you! In the last few months, we had a Dewalt and Hart 20V battery die. They were replaced under warranty, but both are now alive and well with this easy hack. Yay for spares! 😂
According to ADL antisemitism is alive a well, as well.
Thank you!
I just had a newer 9ah battery that wouldn't take a charge and this saved my battery and my frustration level 🤘
thanks so much for this great tip, have two dead batteries, one is a 20 and the other is a 40 both the same brand. question for you - do I have to use the same brand and voltage as the ones I am charging? I didnt see this in the comments anywhere and I did look but maybe not hard enough. thanks
It worked for my Greenworks 80V battery. Thank you so much for posting this. You helped save me $$$
GREAT HACK !! I have old 36 volt dewalt , new battery not available anywhere , and this worked great
Awesome!
doesnt always work,, when you are using drill, at what light 1or 2 light
should you put on charger thanx
Just tried this. Worked like a charm! Thank you!
Hey if you have the same issue but it only charges halfway it only got the one bar what do you
What guage wire?
I have Porter Cable batteries would they work for my Hercules that's totally dead like the Dewalt you showed
2 year old knock off battery dead. Going to try this! BRB It worked!
Used it on a 6amp fexvolt that I drained charging phone at work today. Can't thank you enough matey worked perfectly.
Awesome, your very welcome!
Thanks got my old battery going. But inthe process accidentally touched the wires together. Now my other battery doesn't work. What do you think happened? And can I fix it.
Is 18 gauge wire ok to use to jumpstart my dead droll battery? Thanks for your video.......very helpful!
Worked like a charm on my dead batteries! Thank you!
Hi Brad can this work on a Ryobi 18v 6ah lithium battery.
THANK YOU! This needs to be common knowledge. I had no idea this was possible.
You’re welcome👍
Does this work on ebike batteries
Thanks I just used a Dewalt 20v to save a Craftsman 20v for my 1 tool that needs it.
Glad I found your video - I was just looking for "dead Worx batteries". I have two 40V that are both dead, so I can't jump one from the other. I have one 20V that is fine. Can I try to jump one 40 from the 20, or will I ruin my 20? Also, I don't have the magic red/black wires. Can I buy those at Home Depot? Thanks!
Thanks for the great video. I have three dead DeWalt 20v Max batteries. Did the above using a good 20 volt DW Max battery measuring 26 volts on voltmeter and got three different results: one battery charged up fine, second battery showed 17 volts after jumping but will not charge up in the charger (just shows a solid red light as if fully charged), third battery can't get beyond 2.8 volts on the jump and shows no light whatsoever on the charger. So does this mean that the second and third batteries are beyond restoring?
I think they are done. The cells do die eventually, and no matter how much jumping you do they just don’t come back.
Just saved me £100, works perfect, cheers for sharing!
Thanks for the video and quick restart of my Dewalt batteries. 🙂
It works. In my case for 18V batteries just a couple of seconds was enough. Used power old cable from 110v desk lamp, no issues.
Nice! Good too hear
What size wire do you need for this?
I have a all Volts of drill batteries.
Some none brand accessories will totally discharge a battery. I have a worklight that has a USB charge port. Apparently the charge port isn't shut off with the power switch.
Does it matter what wire you use?
You can also use a 6 Volt or 12 volt power supply for a couple of seconds, and it will charge. If you don't have an extra battery to jumpstart the dead one with
I'm one of the lucky people who own a Craftsman V60 battery. This battery doesn't show any negative and positive. But I do have another V60 battery that still works (miraculously). Shouldn't i be able to just assume they are on the same side and at accordingly? It also has numerous slots, so I would use the outside slots like your Dewalt battery.
Do the wires have to be a certain gauge?
Doesn't work on my porter cable. Flashes real fast?
Saved me $73 bucks! Awesome, thanks so much!
Thanks! It worked on a dead Kobalt tool battery. I was about to drop it off for recycling!
Great!
Even worked on hoover batteries. Thanks alot 🙏🏽
Great trick! I have a barely used Bosch 18v which I think I had forgotten to charge after it ran out of juice. It looked dead. But I was able to fully charge after using this trick. Hopefully it'll be as good as it was before. Thanks!
Great to hear!
I wonder if this will work for my 9.6v using my 20v.
Can you revive a dead battery from a different make of battery?
Does the wire gauge matter when jumping?
this worked for me... i was using 2 dw 20vmax batteries. the failed one had only been charged 1 time. i tried this jumpstart trick and now it seems to be working just fine. it took no time at all.
Just brought a little 1.3 back to life! Thanks!!
Can i Use my sixty volt battery dual to jump start by twenty volt?
Dumb question, would this work with two different voltage systems ? I got an 18v and 36v.
I have a different problem that's really annoying and I'm not sure what to do, I have a 60v FlexVolt battery and the charger claims it's fully charged.
However only one light homes on, this battery has been under ideal conditions for its entire working life, and isn't used extremely frequently
Super, thanks heaps! I had no luck with an 6Ah 18V (20V US) battery starting up a 9Ah 54V (60V US) battery but when I used a battery with the same voltage it worked! Whoohooo! I was nervous using my expensive battery to do it but it was a winner! Thanks again.
I actually got ripped off on Facebook Marketplace after being sold a battery cheap and then getting home and it not charging and the bloke blocking me so I could not follow up! I felt pretty dumb but turns out I got 54V 9Ah battery for $90 Australian dollars. Whoohooo! Did I say thank you!!!!
That’s awesome bud, happy it worked out for ya! Thanks for watching. Happy holidays 🎄
Does anyone know if you can use a 20v to jump a 24v if they're both lithium ion?
Thanks Brad. I was just about to buy a new battery but i followed your tip & it worked right away. Awesome ❤😊
Happy it worked for ya. 👍
@hammerandhome actually it started charging but when it finished and I tried to use it, it's dead n no action
FYI Some batteries have current and thermal fuses in circuit as well. May be why some don't recharge. Can be a cause of battery problem if they've failed.
Does this work on rechargeable razor batteries as well?
My battery is showing 1 of 3 lights on the indicator but whenever I put it in the charger, it says it starts to charge and then says it is fully charged. The battery indicator stays on 1 of 3 and has no power. I did the technique shown in this video, the battery indicator went from 1 to 2 but when I charged it, I got the same results, the charger says it is charged but indicator goes back to one and has no power.
Same thing here. Getying it out of my way
works!! just ressurected dead TOPSHAK battery using other skrill 20v battery
How about two dead batteries and no live one to jump start them? Is there another alternative to put a slight charge into one of them? These are old 13.2 craftsmen drill batteries. Can I hook them up to my car battery for a minute?
I’m not sure, that could be dangerous
Good morning Brad I have a question on the battery charging deal. My battery indicates no juice so I put it on my charger and it blinks twice then goes sold red as if the battery is full charged but it is not. What can I do?
Check that the connections are clean. I use a bit of sand paper to clean them up. If it’s still showing no power I would say it’s toast. Hopefully you still have warranty
I connected the wires from a good battery to a bad one. When I then connected it to the charger the charger light was a solid red and would not start a charge.
Great tip brought my batteries right back, thank you!!!
Thank you Brad. I was able to get my $450 -80V / 6.0ah Cobalt battery to work again 😁👊🏻.
Thank you so much i fixed my black and decker batteries with your video !!!
Nice!
I have a dewalt 6.0am battery not charge, I followed your step, but my battery still not charge, I don't know what is wrong with my battery
Could i do this with from one 36v e bike battery to another? Want wire?
Possibly, however I don’t know much about e-bike batteries so I can’t really say.
I would like to see how the dead battery performs after being brought back to life.
Could you hook it up to a light, or other gear and see how long it will perform and them do the same thing with a new, or as good as new battery?
From what I can tell, it’s lasting just as long as my new battery’s. I’m pretty hard on them because of the cold temperatures we get. I haven’t noticed any lack of power in it.
Hi man. How about it is charging but the voltage is fluctuating when tested with multimeter? Thanks
Sounds like a bad cell. Not to sure though
I just tried it on my 'bad' ryobi 40v i've been hanging on to for no good reason for 3 years. The only difference is, I had to leave the wires connected for a few minutes until the battery gauge showed some life. Make sure to use decently thick wires. Thank buddy, i owe you a beer! got vemno?
Haha no worries, happy to help! But please consider subscribing if you haven’t already 😀
@@hammerandhome you got it brother, thanks again for a great video
But How long will it run, ie how much life will it have after charging, since it was essentially dead?
It may have just gone too low from sitting, yet take a charge that will last long enough to be usable.
