A few months ago you added fish into the tank , you acclimated then poured the bag into your tank . Some fish stores run copper in their fish systems . You may have added copper to the system that way

Rust is iron Oxide. Not involving copper or zinc. Your copper is from something else or your Home Depot magnets are leeching zinc.

10% - 20% water change every other day for 2 weeks after you make sure your rodi water is pure (change the filters if it's been a while), also run activated carbon to get rid of the copper. After 2 weeks retest for copper.

Solid plan, will put carbon reactor online and start with some water changes 👍 every other day may be ambitious for my current schedule but will at least shoot for once a week 😅😅

Always enjoy watching your videos man! No scrippted and natural feel is the way to go. Treating my DT with copper right now and removing in a little over a week so got a few Poly Filters as well. Congrats on the new addition to your family and thanks for sharing!

Check all your power leads for exposed wire or broken down rubber/insulation. Also you can pull screws like that with a pair of vice grips, just latch them on and turn it out.

Bro just get a pair of pliers get a good grip on the screw and turn it counterclockwise. No need for sawing. Channel locks work really well too. Good luck.

A pair of ViseGrip pliers will take that screw out in n o time.

It’s dark brown. Maybe your heater is leaching something into the tank and use a pair of channel locks to get that screw out.

That Amazon return pump you have has a metal prop shaft that may be rusting as well as the magnets inside of the pump could be corrroding.

Do you use ro water maybe it is coming from the make up water . Because you can get those types of metal from tap water if not filtered because of the house plumbing. I would get the tap water tested and if you are using an ro check the water coming out to make sure you don’t have anything coming out of there.

Good idea, ICP tested the RODI water and it was OK! Came from somewhere else!

Cool setup man, liked being able to see your sump/refugium. You wouldn't happen to live near the Maryland region and know about frag swaps and such that happen nearby would you? I've tried looking some up but, Having a hard time finding stuff on the interwebs.

  • @mrsnufalufegus
    @mrsnufalufegus 5 років тому

If you put the screw in and striped the screw head and your sump was underneath that might explain the zinc because the pieces you strip out of the screw head would have went into your sump. I don't see that much rust on the screw to see if would have dropped that much rust if at any into the tank. Copper is another thing I would say it's from your plumbing in the house. The ceramic magnets I would still say has metals in them to well make em magnetic. Glad your wrasse is back my pintail just disappeared so I hope to have the same luck you did with yours

Copper and zinc are used in guitar strings. Are you doing tank maintenance after playing? Not sure if transfer this way is even plausible.

Bro I am going through the same thing with my tank. Kryptonite started receding as well as some other coral deaths. Removed the emerald crabs as well and just added some cuprisorb(I think that’s how you spell it) too because the kryptonite still has not recovered. Best of luck man hope we finally found the culprit.

For there to be copper, it needs to be inserted into the tank, soft corals cant just produce it from nothing

Did u filter / sift the sand with a magnet etc ? I had this piece that looked like a old bent nail when I did mine . Coukdnt believe it ! Was figi live sand too the expensive stuff .
Get a pair of plumbing plyers on the screw and wind it out .

Just a heads up. If you have elevated copper I'm pretty certain it wasn't from that screw. Obviously still a great idea to get rid of it but if I had to guess I would say that a wire has split somewhere and may be leaching copper from there.
Best of luck with it though. Tank looks great still!
