Well nowadays Enduro bikes are even SLACKER & LONGER then DH bikes. You showed the new Gambler. My last Demo Enduro bike was like I said just more slack and long. The bike is from 2018.
I dunno if there even is any DH bike who is slacker then the Nicolai G1 except their own ;) less then 61 is hard.
My Privateer 161 is slack like the Gambler because of that long offset and 180mm fork , it is longer too. We dont even start about reach because DH bikes look tiny now compared to the big Enduro bikes.

If I am not riding at a bikepark, I am walking/riding around with my DH bike looking for drops or steep hills to ride. I have sometimes ridden several kilometers from one spot to another on my single speed DH bike, and surely, it would have been easier with a enduro bike, but it's not what it is about for me. It's about the feel of being outside with my bike and looking for nice freeride spots, I don't really care at all about it being easier or more practical or sit and think if I should get another bike. Just riding whatever gives you "that feel" is where it is at.

As someone who is not in close proximity to a Whistler (or any larger bike park), renting is the answer IMO. Especially when I am not as proficient at DH at a bike park. Great to see you making another video. I am an average rider with 2 gravity parks within driving distance. I really enjoy the progress aspect of my DH bike. Trying that steep rock drop or hitting the jump line ,its just a blast at the amount of hits the bike can take and give you the feedback to push harder. For the price of a DH bike the manufactures have to design them so the average rider will never reach the maximum of the bike. I would hate to override a $4000. bike. Cant wait for the next video.

I had a season pass to a bike park and would do week long trips where I would be there when it opened until it closed, every day. I would just do blacks and double blacks and that is a perfect situation to own a dh bike. I have 2 bikes, a Kona operator (dh) and a Niner jet 9 (trail). This is, in my opinion the perfect set up for owning a dh bike. Have a do it all uphill and down machine, and use the dh bike really only when you are at a dh park.

I'm 54, after a 15 year sabbatical just bought a Intense M3/Fox 40mm x 200mm forks as a upgrade from my old Intense Uzzi DH/180mm dual clamp forks. No its not a new model (neither am I)as I am not really interested in the new bikes as I have too many great memories from these earlier period bikes. It's a bit like still wanting to drive your old car or still wear that old holey tee shirt you cannot get rid of. The M3 is not great for cross country or climbs but I feel you will get fit pretty quick if you pursue riding it as much as possible for all trails. The M3 also makes the rocky rides ( there are many of these in Sydney Australia and the surrounding areas..) far easier to handle and enjoy than being popped around on a low travel bike. I can also just huck drops and roll-in with ease which I would have trouble on the Uzzi but its pretty hard to pop low speed small jumps. This may have more to do with my age and fitness than the bike.
So I am all for the DH ride being used for freeriding or what ever comes up. You can pick a pretty fine 2007 model DH for $1500 which is really more than enough for most peoples skill levels so why not just buy one.

does this video also include the 2010 era downhill bikes with 26 inch wheels or will the old one perform better on slower trails than the current downhill bikes

DH bike is like a cabrio. Everyone will tell you its not practical but you just love it and use it even if it makes no sense. Do you know that in Europe, UK is a country with the biggest cabrio sales? And its like raining 3/4 of the year.

Ive been riding a hardtail since early 2000's So when i started earning money my first bike was a Downhill bike a GT ruckus 2011 2.0 that bike is super heavy but one of the pros is it can handle all the abuse that 180mm Fork just endured all the abuse of my 230 pound ass so when i got to change bike in years its so hard to find a trail bike that i can feel comfy with my riding style and weight until a year ago i Tried a 2018 Slayer, yes a Slayer! Its geo is definitely a downhill bike and when i ride it i feel like this is home not worrying it will break or something so its my bike until now. Though i will still call it Enduro/Single Crown Downhill machine.

yes it has a 165 travel at the rear thats definitely a downhill rear travel match with a 170mm Fox 36 in front. Thats also a downhill travel length.

I would love to have an enduro bike but I simply don’t have the money. Currently in my area there is a carbon dh bike for sale from 2017 for a reasonable price and I’m not sure I should buy. My local is 8km away (I would cycle on the road) it’s about a 3 minute steep climb but a longer steep decent with big jumps, the bike park I go to is about 40min drive away

i am no where near pro, hell, im 13. but as someone who races and rides a lot i always grab the DH bike, like, im averaging 4-2nd in races and im the only one who rides one in the league. i have a enduro but it just feels so fast scrubbing off drops on it like im a pro. also its so much fun to just ride to school because there are freeride spots all over. plus i live 45mins away from a bikepark so thats the best place for a DH bike. in my opinion if your a hardcore DH racer and/or a parkrat DH bikes are awsome to have. but im nowhere near pro level and it makes a HUGE difference in races, thanks.

So... from my perspective. I ride motorbikes often so throwing around a heavy bike (especially bicycle) is no issue at all... I have a habit of blowing through seals on the cheaper bikes within a few hours or days and am sick of replacing them often. I want to get a dh bike as their suspension is obviously superior but I won't be doing much dh riding but defiantly ramps and drop offs. Is it worth investing in a dh bike and what's your thoughts on this situation?

Great video! I have a DH bike but I live across the street from a bike park with lift access. I love the bike because I can ride things that I normally wouldn't be able to on any other type of bike, so my riding as improved as a result. My trail bike however is in stark contrast to that, I use a gravel bike with front suspension, which is also a lot of fun for different reasons. I bought this type of bike because I wanted to ride to the trails instead of driving. I have yet to acquire a bike for XC technical terrain, mostly because I have no idea what type of bike would work the best for me. I am not particularly physically strong or technically skilled. I need a bike that preforms similarly to a DH bike on technical terrain but also is light an easy to pedal uphill. My weakness seems to be rough rock gardens, which I can't really do on a gravel bike.

Most people won't even test the capability of a modern enduro bike and they can go up the hill as well. A modern trail bike is very capable for most people. 200mm front and rear are crazy.

Is that the sea to sky gondola?

The comparison of a DH bike to an F1 car is an interesting one, i recall years ago that someone said the DH bike is the Monster Truck of cycling. I like that analogy. The thing is so burly that it just takes care of my screwups, every time.

I own a XC Hardtail and i tried Bikepark riding on enduros and i enjoyed it very much but i don't want to pay like 100€ every time I go riding so I am looking for a used DH bike rn bc if i take care of it i'll safe money if i go riding more than like 15 times over the period i own the bike. That's why i'll buy one even thought that i can't use it for anything but trails
