Both teams won, Minnesota got depth and maturity and the Knicks got a higher ceiling all star.
KAT will thrive in the East. I've been down on him his entire career, up until last year. He showed maturity with how he handled Ant's ascension, and even though the Mavs made him look bad again, I actually thought his game improved in decision making and defensive effort. This will be the first year I'm just pulling for the guy, barring a finals matchup with the Mavs. I genuinely hopes he has a monster year.
It’ll work for the knicks if KAT doesn’t succumb to the pressure. They match up so well with the Celtics so I hope he plays to his potential and doesn’t do dumbass fouls. The spacing/shooting with Gobert/Randle will be horrible for Ant and the offense. They got a little weaker imo.

I'm a Nuggets fan that has watched our title team whittled down during Jokic's prime because of the draconian penalties of getting into the second apron so I get your take. But you can still build championship teams like the Nuggets did and the Thunder are doing. Draft and develop players well and you'll do just fine with this CBA. You can no longer outspend everyone and buy a championship repeatedly. You can thank Joe Lacob for what he did as an owner and the fear of Steve Balmer and what he might do for this CBA.

@@hustlecrowe9440 This isn't about owners being unwilling to pay. If your team is in the second apron your front office is essentially restricted from doing virtually anything to improve your roster. Teams that are in that apron are essentially handcuffed from making moves. Zero roster flexibility. That was the whole point of this CBA. The league knew that owners would spend unlimited amounts like they do in baseball so to keep the richest owners from dominating the league they put in super severe penalties for over spending.

Ultimately you need to fill the cap with a star player if that silly argument holds water. There aren't exactly a line of stars flocking to Minnesota. They'll be lucky to gain interest from anybody half of Kat's level.

I understand the hesitation with this trade and the history with the Knicks. The reason why I believe this will work is because of Jalen Brunson and his leadership long with Thibs. I truly believe they will make it work.

The New York Knicks' record with and without Julius Randle is as follows:
With Randle: The Knicks were 29-17 with Randle in the lineup, which was good for eighth place in the league.
Without Randle: The Knicks were 21-15 without Randle, which was good for 12th place.
Also, they were 11-1 when Brunson, OG, and Randle all played together.
He’s not a perfect player but people forget what really happened and seem to just run with these narratives about Randle…
They played better in the playoffs 💯
For a lot of those games without Randle the Knicks were a skeleton crew because OG was out for those too, so it’s a little misleading to use the record without Randle because it’s also without OG

I get why the Knicks did this but I don't understand how this helps the Wolves other than maybe eventually getting them out of the second apron which will cripple them if they stay in it. It definitely doesn't help them on the court. Randle is constantly injured and a very inconsistent player. He's way too small to serve as a help defender v Jokic which will leave Gobert one on one against Joker. We all know how that turns out. Complete dominance and a Wolves series loss. Maybe getting a future #1 from Detroit is part of the reason. This seems like waving a white flag on the present and looking toward the future. We Nuggets fans sympathize.
They are creating cap flexibility. When Randle and Gobert opts out next season, they will have an opportunity to sign a big-name free-agent (or sign and trade), then go over the cap to extend Naz Reid and Gobert (or let him go). At the same time, they pick up arguably the best value contract in all of the NBA with Divo.

I still don’t understand why Minnesota did this move. I get why they wanted to move Kat because of the 2nd Apron but Randle, DiVo and a pick is worse compensation than what they could of got from the Pelicans. And now your starting lineup is not going to have any spacing with Randle and Gobert. This move benefits the Knicks more long term especially if Kat is able the stretch the floor with Brunson running the show.

Timberwolves are going to have to trade Julius Randle again to another team or trade Rudy Gobert. Doesn't make sense with the T.Wolves. Kind of Redundant to have two players who give you the same type of style on the court. All Defense and hardly any Offense.

Knicks made a good move..it's a little bit of a risk, but Thib's and Leon Rose know Townsend and his family really well. Townsend fits better with the part the Knicks already have than Randle did. Unfortunately the Knicks had to part with DDV, but they signed Shamet and they have Deuce so the combination with Townsends shooting will open up the floor for JB.
I don’t get the end of this podcast. Y’all complaining you wanted to see the Knicks team play it out but they can move Randle when they need to. All I’m hearing is you know they were a move short and they just made the move to improve.

Towns is the best player in the deal & the Knicks were without Randle for that run. BUT. Losing DD is going to hurt because those weren't empty calorie shots - those were energizing fuel kind of shots. And with attitude. And OG is still injury-prone. The Knicks will need to bubble wrap those starters cause they can't absorb the loss of a main player like the Celtics can. And it still isn't a team that looks like it can beat the Celtics. And did you see that Towns contract?
Bill asks how we got a league with Etch a Sketch rosters. He needs to shine a light on the way the league is covered, including how he contributes to that coverage.
If you're an All-Star without a ring, you get tired of UA-camrs breathing down your neck wondering if you really want it bad enough. If you're running a franchise you get people asking what you're doing to get to the next level 24/7/365. The noise isn't good for what happens on the court, but it is good for "business," whatever that means.
Bill's right about there being less patience in the sport. He might think a bit more about what's whittled it down, and check his own floor for sawdust.
Some real good potential for Rivers in my opinion. One of the only ex athletes to be even semi interesting. Once he no longer has relationships with the people he’s talking about he’ll probably hit his stride
This team really just galvanized into a true core of Ant, Naz and McDaniels. Those 3 are tight, they have already been training together over the summer, and this just puts more expectations on that trio, and it looks like they are going to be able to handle it.
This is a win for the Knicks. DiVo shoots the lights out, but believe it or not we did better with him on the bench and McBride in the game. Randle is good but Towns is better.

What have we learned? In the 2nd apron era you need depth. Wolves have a lot of it now, and most of it is on the same timeline. Knicks have less, but still a great top-7. I like it for both teams, more for the Wolves.
Towns is talented, but still one of the most overrated great players in the league. Has all the tools, but the corniness of his personality is also reflected in his game lol. Then watching him try and act like a leader just came off as a poorly written joke. Dude can ball tho

Acttully, this new CBA brings parity to the NBA, like the NFL. It means dudes must play efficiently, bench players matter and coaching matters. No more super teams.
The trade makes no sense for the Knicks because it doesnt make them title contenders. Wolves the trade makes sense if youre trying to get under the 2nd apron and Anthony Edwards doesnt like playing with KAT.
To me this was the rare time we’re the deal makes sense for both teams even though it was out of the clouds. The Knicks knew that they weren’t beating the Celtics with the current roster. This is a big risk but if it works they could be really good. Gotta love the NBA
