Can anyone imagine the type XXI a year earlier with the rubber cloak of stealth that worked so well for the U480 & other boats. It would have been devastating to allies in any kind of number of vessels. Great video
@@steffenrosmus9177 That's bullshit. Even if the Axis managed to somehow hold off the Soviet Union, then somehow strangle Great Britain, the US would've still won against Japan and would've been completely invulnerable to the Axis. So any kind of occupation for the US (and probably for GB as well) would've been out of the question. Apart from that, "making everyone speak German" wasn't on the Nazi's agenda anyways. Their interests in the West ended in Alsace-Lorraine.
Good video and very interesting to have a good look at this submarine. Truly ahead of it's time. I have read they were a bit unstable in rough seas. Thanks for the video.
1940: 300 Stück dieses Typs.....und der Seekriegsverlauf wäre in eine andere Richtung gegangen....schon grossartig was die Deutschen Ingenieure und U-Boot-Werftarbeiter alles leisteten!
Nice, thanks for that. A bit wobbly though, started getting seasick watching! I was in a Russian Foxtrot Class boat in Long Beach, California and it is very similar. You can see where the Russians copied the Type XXI design. It really appears much better designed than the Balao class submarine that the US was using at that time. Truly a revolutionary machine! Lucky for the Allies they came too late in the war.
Thanks for your comment. You're right. Fortunately, Hitler realized too late what submarine weapon he had there. For the rest of the world it was just better that way. From a technical point of view, however, this submarine was groundbreaking for future and present submarines.

In June 1957, U 2540 was lifted by the Hamburg salvage company Bugsier, made buoyant and towed to the Kieler Howaldtswerke, today HDW. There, the boat, which in the meantime had been christened Wal, was repaired from November 1958 as an experimental boat for the new German Navy. On September 1, 1960, the boat was taken over by the German Navy and named after the German submarine inventor Wilhelm Bauer. It served as a test boat (class 241) until 28 August 1968.
The Ministry of Defense put U 2540 up for sale via VEBEG. The boat was taken over in 1983 by the Board of Trustees for the Promotion of the German Maritime Museum and after the transfer from August 1983 by the Seebeck shipyard prepared for use as a museum. On April 27, 1984, the Wilhelm Bauer, now under the auspices of the Wilhelm Bauer Museum of Technology Association, was opened as a museum. Since then, it has been possible to largely reconstruct its original condition as U 2540. For the 2011 season, the exhibition in the entrance area of the submarine was completely revised. Visitors enter the boat via a door cut out of the ship's side, and the ship is left by a second door.
Schande wie man das Boot behandelt Schrauben ab Rumpf aufgeschnitten etc ....... Ich würde es lieber Seetauglich sehn als hier im Hafen langsam verrotten .

Same with the jet powered Me 262 aircraft. If they had brought that in to service a year earlier……

Правильно. Катер вступил в строй 13 января 1945 года и является последней подводной лодкой Типа XXI.
Looks like it's stuck in the mud
You're right. You might think it's stuck in the mud. But it's just dirty water.
When was the last time? The germans aka ex nazis brought this sub out of the water and put it in dry dock for maintenance?
