Congrats on integrating KB Podcast and TTW into the Enjoy Basketball company! Your videos have been a blessing to the fans that are transitioning from a casual to more immersed viewership. I appreciate the way you breakdown matchup schemas/strategies whenever you talk specific teams because it provides a deeper layer of how a team plans their offense/defense for head-to-heads. Big ups KB!
I think the Nuggets proved that teams give up too quickly in the NBA. A big reason why the Nuggets won was because of how much the core was familiar with each other
@@gavinbroome7701 I think after the COVID situation Mitchell and Gobert's relationship was beyond repair, and what they got back was well worth the trade. Hard to get a talent like Mitchell in Utah again however.
don't think nuggets are a good example at all. when you have a generational player who has won 2 mvps there should never ever be conversations about blowing up. your job as the organization is to surround him with as much talent as possible and hope the cards fall right one postseason. also the only reason they hadn't made a finals run before 2023 were injuries, their front office and most fans knew they had the talent.
Yes i do think fans are to quick to 'blow it up". I believe there is inherent value in putting a decent product out on the floor. Also if your organization is respectable, players might actually want to stay there and may even want to go play for your organization.
I feel like the problem in recent times is that when it comes to blowing it up, we’ve seen two main extremes, teams who refuse to do it and teams that can’t get out of the rebuild. I agree that it is important more often than not to put out a decent team (don’t like calling people a “product”) however, at some point there is only so much retooling a team can do before they need to rebuild to some extent. It would definitely help if the internet wasnt so cynical about 99% of things
Great video ken dawg. As a bucks fan i really hope coach AG can realize the amount of much needed perimeter defense he already has on the team in marjon and andre jackson jr. Makes me very anxious as a fan when such an apparently good lineup and rotation works just for the coach to go in a totally opposite direction
Yes and I always say this. Teams quit after one bad year. Last year the wolves were seen as losers for that Gobert trade. Now they're floating around the top. Every season there's situations like this. There are 30 teams and only 1 can win a title every year. Fans and organizations need to relax.
There definitely are times when fans are too impatient and willing to blow things up, however in order to actually compete for a championship in this league you have to have a legitimate superstar and not every team is lucky enough to find a player like that outside of the lottery (Denver, Milwaukee) or make a nearly perfect trade like the celtics which gets you multiple high lottery picks.
As a raptors fan for the past 14 years (and obviously knowing its history before that), it’s crazy to say that our team have never even had the PRIVILEGE of blowing anything up….we just mostly dig treasures from the trash in terms of late picks and undrafted players, and stars leave the team for bigger market teams whenever they get a chance
Yes NBA fans are too eager to blow it up. However its not just "NBA fans are stupid", we as a species are just becoming much more impatient and shortsighted. It's why people are so quick to write off careers of dudes like Embiid, Tatum, etc. when they're not even a decade into their career.
Love and I mean it. This podcast or kenny for real or just any content from kenny is one of the best if not THE BEST basketball content you could ever find
This was a great topic! I think blowing it up early can work really well, but teams usually sell at a lower value a few years late. So from that point I agree with keeping it towards the middle and possibly waiting for another better than reality season to sell high and move closer/into contention.
I looked up ‘numbers on the board’ to see if you guys have made a channel for it already, and I found another podcast already named that. Idk if that changes your plans but I thought id try to let you know
The Thunder feel very similar to the orioles in baseball lots of young talent playing great ball, but when it comes playoff time the inexperience is too big of a factor
I agree with the notion that a lot of fans think that teams should blow it up way too early. But as a raptors fan i think we have given this experiment its due time and at this point theres no upside to keeping Siakam. We can retool by trading him and with Scottie and our new pieces (who have looked great in the few games they’ve played) and with the draft, we can potentially build a contending team down the line
i think the raptors were in a different situation than most teams, because they needed to trade O.G and probably Pascal to build around and get the most out of Scottie
Yea the Raptors and the bulls are the only teams I think are reasonable to. Both teams have their best young guy being limited by older stars. It would be best for both if they traded them
37:00 that’s not what people mean when they stat padding come on , stat padding is like going into a game forcing a 20 and 10 game (not it was natural and forcing it on the last assist )
Fans want their team to be championship caliber year in year out but are impatient to see those exact teams be built. Denver went to the WCF in 2020. Second round in 2021. Had injuries set them back and get bounced first round in 2022. The next year they came back and won the title.
Luke Walton killed Brook Lopez's value that year. Refused to play him and stifled his three-point growth. Didn't give him a fair chance despite being a dream center for LeBron once he got his shot
I think that the idea of blowing it up comes very quick, but as a nets fan, I’ve been waiting since the KD trade to blow it up. I knew from the start that this version of the team wouldn’t be good, and the way it’s been so far it’s not even looking like a playoff team by the end of the season or at best first round exit. I as a fan would much rather be at the bottom of the barrel with hope for a good future, than a a team in the middle with no hope for current or future hope. Example: I would much rather be in a situation like the Pistons where they are horrible but have exciting talent and young players to look forward to.
I want the thunder to do a lil trade like for Clint capela just to fix their size and rebounding issues and they only really need to throw one or two heavily protected picks at the hawks
ALWAYS remember you have to have good scouts to properly blow it up and come out on top. Let us NEVER forget, that the Sacramento Kings drafted Marvin Bagley over LUKA DONCIC.
Is the new name of the ttw pod inspired by the old white sox's annoucer whenever they hit a Home Run? "You Caaaannn Put It On the Boaaaarrrddd, YES!" If it is that's awesome and if not I think y'all can do something with that in the intro. Much love from Puerto Rico 🇵🇷, Keep up the great work.
full disclosure: i wanted miami to blow it up last season all season, i thought we were in no mans land aka perpetual mediocrity i didnt see us getting better with jimmy, so i wanted to trade everyone not named bam and we ended up making the finals…😅 so thank god im not a gm
I definitely think tearing it down and fully rebuilding is the best style to winning and at least winning championships, which should always be goal. Maybe nba isn't best picture of it as the Sixers GMs after hinkie have messed everything up, but okc is primed for good future. Then Astros in the mlb is a great picture of it though
The goal shouldn't be to make the playoffs and get lucky. It should be to winning championships. And trying to get the highest pick you can for a 2-4 year period is the best way to do that. You can't rely on luck to get you a star in the late first round
last time we had 5 different champs in 5 years was from the celtics in 76 to the lakers in 80 (blazers, bullets and supersonics were the others) and that was just after the collapse of the aba so more parody made sense with a massive injection of talent all at once
Maybe I’m just a biased fan, but gimme my Wolves over OKC in a 7 game series. The recency bias is real, everyone is using the Wolves W, Boston W and Nuggets Ws as the evidence for OKC as a legit contender. Except we’ve done the exact same thing, we’ve also beat OKC, Boston and Denver. Our playoff experience would help us in that series, not to mention that we absolutely punked them out of the play-in last year. I like OKC and think they are a great team, but I feel that putting them over the wolves over a few good games is a little disingenuous
Using the play in from last year is such a bad argument considering okc is a completely different team than last year and sure Timberwolves have experience but let’s not act like you guys also don’t have two players with questionable playoff history Now I’m not saying okc would win I think it be a interesting series but imo regular season wins are hard to judge when the playoffs you can actually plan against your opponent and focus only them when in the season it more of a on the fly type of thing
They didn't have Chet last year for the play in. As a Wolves fan we can point to our wins over Denver and Boston (their first Ls of the season against MN) as well as a couple wins over OKC this season. But they are a bad playoffs matchup. NOLA could take us to seven as well if we don't shore up our offensive deficiencies. McDaniels NEEDS to start dipping deeper into his offensive bag to justify that $25 million Connelly gave him in the off season. He still gets emotional and NAW is there on the bench doing what Jaden does defensively as well as sporadic offense. The difference is Nickiel makes 1/5 of McDaniels salary
I’ve been a kings fan my whole life and I can promise you teams are way to quick to blow it up. I would kill to make the playoffs every year. Expectations ruin what are good teams just because they may not win a championship
The problem with the raptors is they’ve been floating somewhere between trying to be a playoff team and trying to blow it up for what feels like 4 years now. They don’t really have the assets to get a bonafide superstar and Siakam is probably at his highest value in a trade that he’s ever been, and considering his age that value is only likely to decline. Their roster at current doesn’t have the pieces to be a contender either as it sits or via a trade. They need to rebuild, it has been years of patiently waiting to see if they could take the next step and they just haven’t.
Damn Kenny beachum yall gotta look into that “numbers on the board” LLC my man yall stepping on another sports podcast toes there’s another sports podcast already w that name 😬
I would say fans are quick to blow it up. As for should teams blow it up I think both can be successful, but it requires a front office with a plan to get to a championship level. I think too many front offices that blow it up just hope one pick will come in and be the savior with no plan on how to develop and surround your picks with the right players to succeed if they don't instantly make your team competitive (kings before current version or detroit) and then those like the hawks who are able to consistently field a team that can make the playoffs but don't have a plan to either trade for the right guy or surround the right guy with the right talent.
that hoodie is tough and so is the new pod name also producer Greg's takes are redditor level (joel also takes every last second shot without hesitation, watch him play)
As a Celtics fan since about 2016 (when I started watching the NBA). I haven’t had to think much about blowing it up. So this is very interesting to me.
Celtics blew it up in 2012 when they traded KG and PP. They weren’t very good from like 2012-2015 but the picks we got in the trade turned into JT and JB, so we already completed our rebuild technically
Just listened to you and realized the Heat did with Jimmy what Chicago should have done but are too much of a Trash Front office starting with the owner to have the foresight for something like that!!! You would have gone from Rose to Butler with out this much pain. To think that the Chicago front office shared 2011 the best front office title with the Heat front office!!! What a joke!!
Im sure it gets annoying for you to only talk hoops or that being the go to topic, but man im sure its kinda cool to be able to shoot a text to someone as knowledgeable and passionate about a subject and know you will get a good convo or atleast diffrenet perspectives from it
Next episode can we hear you talk about the fact that refs call fouls after they see a shot misses. I think it messes up players because they get locked in to go in the fast break cause the foul gets called late #AskKenny
