Chaplin considered Modern Times to be the last appearance of the Tramp character. How nice that he walked down the road, towards his future, not alone but with a wonderful partner arm in arm.
Paulette for me was his most beauriful partner...in modern Times she s so gorgeous..😍
He KNEW the "Silent Era" was over- and so were the exploits of "The Little Fellow" (as he personally referred to him). He HAD to look to the future.....no matter how unsettled it was going to become.
Happy ending then tho?
The more he was beautifuly criticizing some kind of society, the more he gets ostracized.
And to play it "fair" , Hollywood finished to gave him an Oscar. Just to be sure they won't be that much bastardos regarding to the future.
Merci la vie😄🤍🖤😉👍
He did marry paulette at one point. But he was a known womanizer especially with young ones. Still admire his work he was a genius ☺️
@@paolotondo2463 I agree.
One of the most beautiful and emotional endings ever made.
It's actually amazing how Charlie Chaplin could make such powerful scenes without saying a single word truly a master of his craft. I love this ending because this is how I imagine my grandparents were when they finally were reunited last year simply walking together and smiling hand in hand.
Are you saying what I think you're saying?
@@lateillustrator05 What?
@@nallan2538 nvm bro
@@lateillustrator05 Yes my grandparents passed away now they're walking in heaven smiling.
Since this was supposed to be the last appearance of The Tramp character, I always found it interesting that Chaplin and Paulette Goddard (the woman in this scene) ended up marrying after they finished the movie.
From what I understand, they divorced a few years later on good terms and Chaplin would remarry. She even stayed friends with the family and supported Chaplin’s son when he got into performing himself. Goddard may not have been the woman to win Chaplin’s heart, but she walked away with The Tramp’s. There’s something poetic about that.
Goddard was very close to Chaplin sons since they were kids, one of them in an interview mentioned how she was like an older sister to both of them.
For all the womanizing and controversy of his love life. There were four real loves of Chaplin's life.
1. His childhood sweetheart Hetty Kelly
2. Edna Purviance
3. Paulette Goddard
4. Oona O'Neill
@@michaelj.r457 By today standards, he would be in jail today next to Harvey Weinstein.

We'll get along !"
Few months ago, Modern Times was on TV, but it was only 20-minutes left of it. I decided to give it a watch, since this is a Charlie Chaplin movie, and I needed to see this! This ending is one of the best endings in an old movie I have seen. This really did not need any dialogue, since the music and the bittersweet message makes this sooo good. Thank you Chaplin 💓
One of my favorite endings to a movie.
One of the all time best endings ever!
Truly.
One of the greatest endings to a movie ever! Chaplin was a genius. And a legend.
I've watched the film two days ago. And it has been one of my favourite ones. That end, it's fascinating.
The best part about this is the revelation that they have mountains ahead of them. Be positive and strong despite the challenges ahead.
By giving reassurance to others and bringing cheer into their lives, Chaplin channels as much heroic masculinity as possible by an actor on screen.
“A day without laughter is a day wasted.”
True, y with the way society is I have plenty of material to work with.
This is my motto in life.
Quand tout disparaîtra, restera de ce monde le souvenir de Chaplin…
This and Charlie Chaplin gave me a bright smile and comfort when I am through depression
This scene is so toucheable. He said good buy but he stills in our hearts and memory. Thanks for making us laughing
A masterpiece.

@@markusantonious8192 Yeah, i know about that, Thank you 👍
That "The End" at 1:47 used to scare me when I was little.
Really? I wonder why.....
Maybe because no one wants this wonderful film to end
The font looks scary for some people, as well as the loud noises.
@@Memestermind how curious, I wonder why 💖
What the heck!!!??
Legends say that this video was the comment of Thomas Bangalter on the Daft Punk split
It's not a legend !
If love is the answer you’re home
How many times has this ending been copied over the years.... It is beautifully done here.
Even though it is the final appearance of The Tramp, the movie ends on a hopeful note. It's the Depression era...The Tramp walks towards the sunset with his lady love ... going out on a high note!
Chaplin himself later confirmed he did intend The Great Dictator to be considered the actual final appearance in hindsight, even if he played things very differently for the final time he was in the costume.
Expression enough to express feelings
Thank You Far Out website, yes that ending deserves to be Top Ten of All Time
this is why i want to be like him some day
Explain please.
@@vanessapierce231 he is man who every time he falls, gets punch or kick on, he just get up, clean off the dust, and walkaway smiling. he never gives up hope. as charlie said so himself"smile". even when your heart is breaking.

“Never give up, never surrender!” 😎
We don't need words...people speaking many different languages understood what was happening...
And with that, they took the era of silent film with them...
Beautiful!
It doesn't cover any better than this. Utopia on earth.
and wrote the music too. ' smile' though your heart is breaking,..walking off into the sunrise with Paulette Goddard, ...quote...'gentleman prefer blondes,' until they get a load of Paulette.
Who can forget Charlie Chaplin? It's tragic that the US has veered widely off the ideals of Chaplin.
Very nice
Thanks
Not just the last appearance of The Tramp but the last silent film
Chaplin is not an actor he is a gift to human from god
