    We're nearly five years on from when this video was made, and I believe it holds up very well. I recently purchased a Godin Encore model of the Multiac. I think the MAIN difference in mine and the one Andy is using is that the Encore does NOT have the synth connection feature. I have owned and played an Angel Lopez solid body nylon, and a Yamaha SLG200N nylon-electric.....both of which didn't intonate well, even with compensated saddles and fresh strings. My Godin Encore plays VERY WELL in tune (chords) up to the twelfth fret. For people interested, there are different Godin models with different neck WIDTHS, so if you're accustomed to electric guitar, you can get a slimmer neck....if you're used to a true classical, you can get wider. My Encore is between 1.8" and 1.9", so, wider than a typical electric, but that's my preference. And as to "sound".....the Godin is unsurpassed. The Yamaha SLG200N is very good, but just won't play in tune as well as the Godin. I hope this modest update helps anyone interested in a Godin.

    Be aware the narrower neck can lead to problems when playing open strings next to a fretted string,I know ive had that problem to my regreted choice.

      yes me too,After paying a lot of money on a German hand built Classical,to learn that it had a Narrow neck by classic standards,ie 1/7/8..the open string problem was very evadant.

    the reason it's intonation is good is because it has a compensated bridge, whereas most classicals have a classical style straight bridge without so much as an angle, let alone individual string compensations. I had an Ovation folklore had a similar ilar compensated bridge and could be played high up with nylons. Nylon is nylon, and I don't think nylon string quality is as wide varied as steel strings can be, so I don't agree with you there 100%.......bearing in mind what Segovia used back in the day lol.

      @@AndyDuffyGuitar your comments about the strings were very interesting and important especially for me now as I've hopefully just purchased my first nylon string guitar which happens to be the Multiac Natural SG so yeh I was all ears 🙂

    What does multiac mean and where does the SA, SG and HG stands for? Like whats the differens between the 'Multiac Grand Concert SA Natural HG' and the 'Multiac Nylon String Natural HG'?

    • @tylerjacob6124
      @tylerjacob6124 2 роки тому +1

      I believe SA stands for “Synth Access”, so it has midi capabilities with a 13 pin connector on the guitar. If synth access is what you’re looking for, make sure the guitar has the 13 pin connector by looking at the pictures. Not all of the models have SA in the title. As for SG and HG, I believe they mean “Semi Gloss” and “High Gloss”. Hope this helps :)

    Andy, thanks for your video. As an electric-guitarist who learned on a classical guitar and is now finding his way back, I've recently purchased a Godin ACS-Slim. I know that you're not in to endorsing brands... but what do you do in terms of breaking nylon strings in ? Any tips ?

      hi peter! thanks for watching..normally on the godin I will use either ramirez strings or strings by an american company called oasis.these are on my godin just now.all are hard tension..normally I would give the strings a tug to stretch them but I don't like doing this on the godin in case I damage the saddles, so I tune a semitone higher till the strings settle down. I also play hard and loud at first to calm the strings down and this usually doesn't take too long before they hold their pitch! anything else I can help with, just ask..andy.

    • @Adipsia1
      @Adipsia1 6 років тому

      Thanks Andy, much appreciated. I'm very conscious of damaging the saddles by pulling them. Playing hard and loud and tuning-up makes sense. Typically how long does it take for your nylon-strings to hold pitch ? Thanks for your help.

      hi peter. normally a day..I use a lot of apayando .....ie rest stroke, playing, this usually brings them in but I have to say that I play a lot! they will soon settle down. all the best, andy.

    Thanks for your review...I just bought one and I play much better than I ever have before on it....it is so powerful and easy to play...a great great guitar....not crazy about the look but that's subjective.

      hi Steve! thanks for watching....I have had mine for many years and found it to be veery reliable in all sorts of gigs...the battery life is pretty good but just be gentle with the battery compartment lid...I agree with you about the looks but the guitar's veratility makes up for it...thanks again...andy.

      @@AndyDuffyGuitar I love the fact that one can play just about any style on it: classical, bossa, jazz, flamenco, fusion....do you happen to have an opinion on the difference between the spruce vs the Koa top because my music shop has a koa one in stock (mine is spruce). Any insight into their difference in tone would be appreciated. Thank you very much.

      hi Steve..my knlwledge really only covers cedar and spruce...I have played for many years and fouund that spruce has a great tone and will improve a lot through the years continually getting brighter and more dynamic....if the guitar is played! cedar gives a more brighter, immediate response and holds it's tone getting warmer as the years pass. this is all subjective of course and only how I feel...sorry I don't have any knlowledge of Koa,,,,my top range classical guitar has a spruce top and at over 30 years old melts my heart when I play it! I also have a Ramirez . which is a hell of a gutar, this has a cedar top...The godin spruce top is capable of really great tones my friend...live long and play it.....andy

      @@AndyDuffyGuitar thank you again for this precious information as it turns out the Godin has a rosewood top not koa...my mistake...I played the living daylights out of both the rosewood and the spruce this morning and although the rosewood has a midi plug I clearly prefer the spruce top because I play flamenco bossa, classic and fusion and rock and I love ripping Zepplin of even ACDC solos on an acoustic it is kind of a challenge to get the energy and vibration intense enough ...the spruce sounds brighter and seems to cut through the mix better. I had a Ramizez which had a great sound...it was 30 years old and then a Kohno which was exceptional in terms of balance, tone and ergonomics and I also had a Dieter Hopf that was disappointing....lacked dynamic resonance but its slightly curved radius of its fretboard made in comfortable playing bossa..dieter. Just to be clear I am not THE Steve Morse but a Steve morse. If I had put all this money that the GAS cost me (guitar acquisition syndrome) I would be living in a far nicer flat....I have owed over 50 guitars many this price range....... sheer folly. Thanks again for taking the time to answer me and I will continue checking out your videos and have subscribed,

      Hi Dennis! thanks for watching! To be very honest,you can get a reasonable sound out of the Godin on any guitar amp with a clean setting but the guitar only really shines on a top quality acoustic amp and unfortunately, these are usually very expensive,which is why I drive an old car! thanks again m8!
