I feel like people are sleeping on how wonderful Peg is. Like she was the only one that genuinly (can't spell sorry) cared about Edward from the begining, and it wasn't out of pity or greed it was out of seeing Edward as beautiful and unique. Though, she shouldn't have exploited him all over town, she was the reason the entire movie happened, and her love for Edward was real. Idk I just love her lol.
she was not all that great, she still forced him to fit in and made him seem like not himself i stead of properly teaching him to embrace his differences. still she tried to preach that "he will always be special" etc. while making him fit in and blend in.
‘Those deemed different from the norm seeking basic human rights always creates toxic attacks from those, who are privileged by the norms.’ Beautifully put. Thank you
There are 4 times in the movie Edward is offered real hands: the inventor, Peg, a guy at the barbeque, and someone from the audience on the talk show. The inventor happened to die but the other offers are just sort of forgotten. No one follows through with their offer in any way for one reason or other. You can tell Edward would love to have real hands but he never goes out of his way to beg or ask for them, he is only grateful that anyone offers them at all. To him, the chance for real hands is the chance to lead a normal life among people. In the end, he must live with what he has because he cannot count on anyone helping him.
thats the point my sweet, people offer many things to try to "help" but they dont mean it. its just another empty promise from the norms to make themselves feel better about themselves.
MeenaUwU seem to be getting a lot of comments regarding that, had no idea this movie was studied, but that’s cool. Hope your class wasn’t put off by my voice!

You didn't mention the use of colors. Like all the houses being different and strange colors. This represents Edward seeing the Suburbs through the eyes of a child and with wonderment. His castle is plain and boring so its always dark. When he sees the bank it is a very big and plain building with a small sign just saying "bank" . He doesn't see that with wonder and knows what it represents so its plain. After he makes a dinosaur out of a small bush it stands much taller than when it started. That's him seeing it through his eyes.
Or it could be Tim Burton's intended vision of showing the stark contrast between Edward's world and the life outside. The dark, forgotten castle and the pretty, vivid life of an ideal suburbia. It enhances the two realities. Not necessarily what Edward's seeing. That's my thought on it.
In my head it represents that the 'real world' is colourful on the face of it, but has little detail or depth, that's in contrast to the castle where everything's grey but intricately detailed. This is a reflection of the charaters' respective personalities. But I like your idea of it being through Edward's eyes. Makes sense, and I've never thought of that before.
ES represents an innocent and carefree part of ourselves that we have to say goodbye to when we grow up. Kim grows up from a child to a woman when she lies about the murder to protect Edward which is also echoed by her white dress with blood stains. The neighbour who tried to seduce Edward and Jim represent the human monsters part that exists in everyone , the same part that awakes in Edward when he kills Jim. The ending is sad but only as sad as changing, evolving or growing up and leaving old parts behind.
I remember when i for the first time watch Edw. Scc. in 1991 in VHS . I was only 10 and i fall in love. As a result, I watched over and over again and again
This film is why I am dedicated to the film industry. It is a film that makes audiences laugh, cry, and thrills them. It encompasses everything that makes a successful movie, and it is proof that film is not just an industry, but a genuine art form.
You mentioned that there are similarities between ES and Frankenstein and the Hunchback of Notre Dame - the story that I really thought of was Aldous Huxley's Brave New World. The suburbia showed is eerie - giving vibes of Huxley's dystopia: think of the neighbors spying, lack of privacy, the fake 'perfection' of everything. Edward comes into this new world just like John does, admiring the excess and technology which is so different from where they've come from. Both are pounced on by women, seen as a novelty, someone to fight over and seduce. Both characters fall in love with a girl, end up being chased away, and end up living alone in isolation. Interesting similarities!
I feel the film also Perfectly captures the fickle and unreliable nature of humanity. You’re only on their good side so long as you perfectly fit into their idea of what you should be.
Awww what a cute video….everything about Edward scissorhands leave me feeling so sad but happy in a way idk. But that’s how you make a good film leave the person with multiple emotions

Edward scis is my fave film. A master peace film to me would be something that can accurately portray an experience one might have and successfully change a point of view or introduce a new point of view on a subject either one apposed to, was less empathetic to, or uninformed about. In the end result by changing this persons mind and extracting the ability out of others to relate to a character one might of never thought he/ or she could is an expedition of a skilled artist.

I’ll be honest with y’all, instead of crying I was disappointed and mad that it had to end this way for him, The entire neighborhood turned on him by this pathetic high school delinquent getting him in trouble. Not only that the girlfriend could’ve said something to defend edward but she didn’t. But I still enjoy the movie nonetheless (even though that scene at the salon was just gross)
Am I the only one that thought the movie was wacky and full of plot holes? I liked it but I feel like it's kind of oversold, maybe I just need to watch it again or something
Nothing in this movie makes any sense. We don't even know who the inventor is or why he created Edward Scissorhands. Nor do we know why he would put scissors on him and die just showing him plastic hands. Why have scissors in the first place? The character going to the suburban neighborhood doesn't make sense either. When the Avon lady invites herself to the house and sees Edward, why would you bring him home? If she didn't there would be no movie. The ending isn't a fairy tale ending since nothing is accomplished. Edward still has scissors, he doesn't get the girl, he lives in the castle still. It would be like if Beauty and the Beast ended with only Gaston dying and nothing else.

Great video!
I’ve seen Charlie in the chocolate factory I’ve seen his crime movie now I’ve got to see this
I was scared af of this movie
I think this is #2 behind Ed Wood as Burton’s best film. But they’re close.
Let me give you people my take this movie is deep real deep
They are at the beginning stages of reality and everything is the same they are like a endless loop all they know is the town and nothing aside from that they live there and don’t go out because the town is there reality
The creator of Edward was likely one who dare to break out of the loop and create and experience new things realizing there more to reality and he created Edward from a thought
Now Edward is like a new emotion a new style something added to there reality so they find him weird yet interesting because is something new to there reality the church lady sees him as evil because she is not from the reality she knows so she outcast him as a demon
But these are just early civilizations getting expose to newer emotions and thoughts that why is all so creepy and houses are the same and there is a line where one of the ladies in the town states along the line
Edward if you get normal hands you will be normal nothing interesting and you won’t be on tv
Is how I’m saying this is a loop of early civilization the only reason they where in the audience was because that’s all there is this is the only news there isn’t other news cause there is nothing else
The bank the police is just all early stages of how it started
And all that evolve into the civilization we are today so similar to people who are different in todays world and are not accepted eventually they will become the normal
I’m very bad with examples but let me use one
Gay people in the past where looked at as super weird demons it wasn’t normal the first gay man was like Edward Scissorhands he did know why he was being Judge why he could not be accepted simply because he was different but over time it became more common and now is just well common is not outcasted
So Edward for example eventually as the town evolve over decades and decades eventually he was likely accepted by let’s say
The little girl in the bed grew up and her kids had kids and does kids grew up to accept Edward
Or the little girl in bed grew up and when to the castle one day
So many possibilities but yeah I don’t know if I explain my self right but that’s what I see the movie as
The begin of civilization and understand new thought and emotions new things out of there reality
Showing how there is so much more out there that we can’t comprehend even now in the present there is barely anything we can truly understand of our reality
P.s love is the root of everything even Edward knows that love is all
just saying, vnv nations song illusion would fit perfectly with this.
