Relics are fine on some maps. Islands for instance ensures that there's not a stalemate with relics. But some maps are meant to just be played scrappy, and to me Cross is one of them.
It mostly felt like an unnecesary buff to Lithuanians as it was just an annoying bit of extra work for each additional relic. Copenhagen or HC5 Islands does the awkward relics much better IMO with the risk/reward component still there and rewarding map control.
It's just too much micro to make a dock, make a transport, make a monastery, make a monk, put the monk on the transport, transport to the island, pick up the relic, get back on the transport, come back, and put the relic in the monastery again.

I was hoping for a “V-Cup” map for HCV. A map with a V-shaped pond/water between the players, where the players start towards the bottom sides of the “V” and have to get to the center of the “V” for resources. But water control would be crucial for safe access to those resources, and the bottom of the “V” also makes it easy for early aggression.

i would like to see a map with a third party involved in the 1v1. for example a map with just 2 stone tiles per player (= 1 castle) like el dorado but there is 1 fortified position per player with 8 additional stone tiles secured by 4 hostile towers in range of each other, even better if they're walled in. so players can go there with rams or trebs to earn additional castles but that will draw costly army away from the main fight and your opponent might just say thanks and mine it themselves.
It'd be cool if, on High Tides, the shoreline actually moved over the course of the game. Like the water starts creeping higher onto the land and units/buildings/gold piles get lost to it. Or you could do the reverse and have the water recede to reveal more gold/stone piles but it would wreck ships/docks/fish. If have no idea what's possible in the script editor but so maybe it can't be done but I think that would be a fun new dynamic.

Hidden Cup should be great. My only problem is after watching all of the qualifiers I'm fatigued with the maps. I think the main event should have a lot more maps that are different from the qualifiers.

I think it'd be really interesting at some point to have a map where all the gold and stone are alternating in a single-square-wide line spanning across the full middle of the map. It'd be sort of like ZeWall, but where the wall itself is the key resources to fight over.
sounds awful. you can only mine it away but if you do you get shot at from the other side. basically you are punished for bringing the game forward. you should get rewarded for doing so, not fall behind.
Archers cost gold. Towers cost stone. To get the resources to shoot across the center line, you'd have to be there first trying to harvest resources. And that would mean that you'd need to be scouting first to see where it's safe to get stone & gold (and to see where you can deny your opponent those resources). It would also require careful management to make sure you don't "chop through" at the wrong time and let enemy melee units into your mining.
As for hidden forts i would stongly suggest different shape, wider bottom should be more round, like 2 circles middle should longer, and top should be more round. Im sure it would be much more playable then, and mqybe change of the name would be in place then.

Make sure you hide your farts well, otherwise you may accidentally cause an Evacuation and end up with a Mudflow in your -Bay- Pants
