Another downside to EVs that many people don't consider is how the electricity - that charges their EVs - being generated? Does your power grid use solar, wind, hydro? Or does it use coal fire power plants? Power doesn't appear out of a void.
As a disabled person THANK YOU. My medicines come in plastic. I cannot independently cook a meal and rely on pre made and pre packaged foods. Thank you. Thank you. It is hard and the attitude of abled people who are in anti-consumption and zero waste makes it harder to engage in those spaces.
I rely on grocery delivery many times. They do not give an option to avoid plastic bags. I wish they did but unless that changes this is just... part of being disabled
Exactly! Very frustrating. A lot of my mobility aids have plastic on them as does my shower chair. I don't believe it makes me a bad person to need those. Plenty of days I simply cannot stand long enough to make a truly homemade meal.
I support Trump and I'm anti-war and for the environment. I'm against the 'climate change' lie though, the climate has been changing since the beginning of time , and in the 70s we were warned about 'global cooling'. It's all a scam.
My hot take is that most people who need a new car should get a hybrid and not an EV. Most people drive less than 60 miles per day, so almost all of your driving can be done on the smaller battery of a hybrid. And the few long trips per year can be done with high fuel efficiency. Building a hybrid is less impactful than a full EV because the battery is so much smaller. (This is at least until battery technology improves to be less wasteful)
I'm almost certain EVs can be efficient even for short drives if they're small enough. Of course most car makers are really into making the biggest ugliest cars possible these days, so that's an issue, but I really doubt hybrid cars are better overall.
@@catIing EV batteries have a HUGE upfront environmental impact. Decreasing the battery size helps a ton with the upfront footprint and impact from an electric vehicle, which is why hybrids may be less impactful for most people (as long as you are driving predominantly on electric power off of a clean power grid). I do agree that cars are much bigger than they should be, which could decrease battery size too.
I hope in the future we develop a more local car sharing program. Most people's cars are idle 95% of the day. I know this has been attempt in dense population areas. I'd also like to see a better option to loaning your car while on vacation. I out of the country for 3-6 months and would love to loan out my car. This are just future personal transportation solutions.
It's wild to me that corporations have convinced individuals that they're the problem and that people attack one another for not being "good enough." The straw issue was brought to my attention by Jessica Kellgren-Fozard, a disabled UA-camr. I use glass straws at home myself, but don't have the spoons to manage taking them with me right now. I'm a nurse and the amount of single use packaging and plastic I go through in a shift is staggering. It's somewhat necessary in healthcare, but other industries are heavy waste producers as well. What we as individuals do helps but no one should be made to feel bad for using some single use packaging, especially with food.
For real, plastic is a health and safety blessing. I'm reminded of the whole controversy with Mr. Beast's Feastables snack lunches, where he bragged about using real cheese, not cheese byproduct full of preservatives. When, between that and a manufacturing defect that meant the plastic film on the top didn't attach securely to the tray below, a lot of people's meals arrived with MOLDY CHEESE. I would love a waterproof biodegradable alternative to plastic, but right now the science just isn't there.
My hottest take is that Crafting is a part of the movement, and we need to acknowledge that as being a keystone of the push. I rarely see that in the conversation outside of crafting groups, and the discussion around how waste is sometimes unavoidable.
Yeeah. Partly because fixing recycling and reusing means having way more people with small skilled trades closer to where the end user is. Tailoring, mending and darning, electronics repair, metal casting, a LOT of things. Individual crafters today contribute to the market demand for easily available tutorials, plans, workshops, and tools, and give people mastering these skills an audience that can help them earn a living.
1:35 fun/ironic fact: Plastics were first developed as an alternative to tortoise shells. So there was a time plastic would have been considered the eco-friendly option.
I was almost going to say in my longpost of a comment, about how if you genuinely need plastic to be physically able to make the most impactful decisions you're capable of, plastic was invented for your need! This fact is really cool to find out.
Yeah, and paraffin/kerosene, a petroleum product, was a great answer to the perfectly correct end of the whaling industry. We always have to learn and course-correct. I hope the world improves so much that in the future, my best is somebody's worst.
@@TheSimpleEnvironmentalist yeah it was basically because the inventor felt bad for all the turtles being killed so their shells could make glasses and hair combs
We have a regular car. We go to a place where they have basically a car scrap yard where you take the parts you want off the old cars yourself. We have been able to fix the gas cover, control arms, some sort of pump (idk the name), tubes, springs, bolts, etc etc to fix our car. Our regular car has a lot of replaced parts at this point, that are recycled. Once it is unfixable, it will get scrapped, which means it gets turned into other things. My partner has worked in electronics recycling facilities and factories that facilitate this. His stories are really interesting about how the recycling process works. The city I live in is very big on recycling.
I'm one of those weirdo moms that reuses all of my glass and plastic containers that my food comes in. Instead of buying a bunch of meal prep containers, I just use old pasta jars and deli meat containers for my leftovers and meal prep (super handy with a baby on the way.)
I do think that yogurt containers and deli meat containers have their space in food storage. But particularly with a baby on the way, I'd take into consideration that many of those containers are designated "single-use" for a reason. Meaning, they may not pass the test for long-term storage and leeching particles into the food. That being said, the round lidded plastic containers you get from Indian, Thai and Chinese takeout are absolutely used by the food service industry to store food for prep all the time. Glass is your safest and best bet to store food for long-term.
@dawnchesbro4189 very true! Mostly anything with acids, such as lactic, tend to be single use. I usually don't use them for food storage, except for dry pet treats after I sanitize them (I dehydrate beef liver for my dog, he goes nuts for them)
Dude, thank you for the ableism chat!! I’m autistic and I really need a lot of single-use plastic because food is a huge executive dysfunction block for me, so I need a lot of stuff that’s easy to grab because I frequently won’t eat anything if I don’t have access to pre-prepared food. Also a lot of my safe foods are uber-processed, over-packaged crap, and I would love to seek alternatives, but I need to get treated for my ED first😅 (ARFID gang!) My personal hot take is that I think some environmentalists are dangerously close to some conservative anti-science fearmongering. For example, I hate the word “toxic”, e.g. “toxic chemicals”. People use that phrase to refer to anything from lead to, like, corn syrup. These things are not comparably bad for you. Also, “all-natural” is a f***ing scam. Just because something comes directly from nature doesn’t make it automatically better for you or the environment. …I could go on about this for a while😅
I’m a new nursing 🤱 mum and have a lot of food insecurities. If I don’t have easy 1 handed snacks like cereal bars to hand I don’t eat much at all throughout the day
As an AuDHD person who had an ED for like half my life so far, I feel this so much. If throwing out the whole container of rotten food I forgot about makes me actually able to cook or even acknowledge the fridge, it's what I need to do. If individually wrapped snacks are the only way I realistically have healthy food with me when I go out, I need them. If I can't make it to the bring your own jars supply store for groceries in time, I need to get to the regular store and buy single use packaged goods. Not go without and waste my energy and mood on that, rather building a more sustainable and healthy life and influence. And YES, toxic/especially ~toxins~ is where the often new age-affiliated eco type person starts to nosedive to the right wing. I recently found out that my chill hippie homestead landlord in the liberal artsy area I'm lucky to live in, is an antivaxx MAGA/RFK fan by their own posts, and we aren't even American. And I've seen more to come, even awful takes on human worth and supporting certain types of supremacy in the name of "eco-friendliness"
I have fibromyalgia and while I do love to bake, I can never predict how much pain I'm going to be in on any given day. If I put butter out to soften at night, I have no clue whether I'll be able to bake with it in the morning. I have so many ingredients go off while I'm waiting for a good day, and my guilt about wasting them makes me tempted to stop trying to make things for myself at all. Right now I've got that wrestled and have a stick of butter on the counter, but we'll see how it goes.
@@ealusaid My mom softens butter quickly by pouring boiling water into a mug, letting it get hot, then pouring the water down the drain(which is excellent for the pipes by the way), then putting the mug over the butter for a few minutes. Or we do it by microwaving it for 5 seconds at a time, the doing a finger check. Hope this helps! Happy Baking!
I have never thought about the possibility of flying actually being better than driving! I rarely travel in general and even more rarely fly but this makes me feel much better about any flights I might need to take in the future. Thank you for this video!
I honestly love to dip into the stuff an industry and its scientists and engineers talk about amongst themselves, because in aviation there's SO MUCH talk about how to make aircraft more fuel-efficient. Which, aircraft manufacturers and airlines ALSO have an economic interest in spending less money on fuel (and also an engineering one, since fuel is heavy and weighs the plane down, which makes it harder to fly). So there's a LOT of discussion and experimentation about it: Can they design their routes in ways that are less fuel-intensive? Should they bring back propeller planes? What kind of plane is the most efficient on what kind of route? What engine design improvements will help? There are some really brilliant people working on it.
I agree with you 100%. I do feel that the major polluters are big corporations and mostly energy companies. But we have so much power. We can not use their services we can not buy what they have for sale. For the most part If we. And dressedly come back on our consumption these company companies will be begin to waver Maybe Maybe more responsible companies will be able to take their place?
@@TheSimpleEnvironmentalist that's so wild to me honestly. Audiobooks helped me read over 14 books in 2024 and allowed me to get through work with something to do
You seem like a very intelligent person - as in, you seem to think things through, are very insightful, consider options, weigh things, see different perspectives, and not just follow wherever the crowd leads. I appreciate that. I especially like that you see something as a bandaid: recognizing that you can do something to alleviate the harm of a problem isn't the same as actually fixing the problem is some critical thinking many don't seem to have. I'm not a "zero waster", but do try to think about lessening my impact on the environment at least occasionally. When I was a kid (I'm 55 now) there were huge anti-littering, energy and fuel conservation campaigns, and I really thought "this won't be an issue when I grow up." It sucks that we are still having to struggle so hard to make doing what is right for the environment the norm. Every little bit helps, and people who share different perspectives to what is achievable make the effort more accessible to everyone.
Thank you for this video, Emma. Appreciate your reminder about ecoableism. We all make way too many assumptions about other peoples' choices! I order groceries for seniors (volunteer gig). Many of them live in apartments with tiny fridges and very little kitchen tools/appliances. So they buy precut/prepared items. And they feel bad about some of their choices. And you yourself had to make different choices when you lived in your RV. I don't have a car, so I might make different choices about watermelon than someone who does🍉 Let's stay out of each others' choices! We all do what we can! Also, on an unrelated note, can you talk about US train travel? I've been considering it as a viable means of transportation, but there are lots of delays (and very few vegan options on board), and of course time is money🙃. How much more eco-friendly is taking a train vs a plane vs a car vs a bus? Maybe with a cost and time and money comparison chart? I appreciate you, Emma! Hope your studies are going well!
Never been on a train in america, but in canada, I got a complimentary snack aboard VIA rail and frankly it was horrible. Same with planes, you are definitely better off bringing your own food, even if just for taste purposes.
I would love to see an updated video on eco-ablism :) I'm disabled and want to thank you for bringing that to light. Recycling is disappointing when you find out that even glass, which is infinitely recyclable, is not seen as profitable enough to bother with. They make money off of it but not as much as they think they should so they just toss most of it when you send it to be recycled. I definitely agree that people should just do the best they can in order to help as they are able. Individuals and companies can make a difference.
I was just watching a documentary regarding social media. One of the points brought up was how people have turned into cyber bullies. It's too easy to say negative things to another behind a screen but most wouldn't have the guts to do it in person in the real world and typically don't. Especially not in a mean way. Unfortunately, this is the world now and many don't know how to have real life conversations or debates in person anymore. Sad but true. Thanks for another great video 😊❤
I always use natural light during the day and never even thought about the energy I was saving. I just strongly prefer natural light and can’t stand when natural light and artificial light mix. Like if my room is lit by the sun through my window and you come in and turn on the overhead light, suddenly the room is disgusting and I want to stop existing until things are better
Being an environmentalist and not caring about humanitarian crises is wild to me. Literally that “I can excuse racism, but I draw the line at animal cruelty” scene from Community
I think my hottest take is that modern crafts are often more waste than benefit. We used to spend years honing a skill but now there's more emphasis on production. Kids are given super simple crafts made with non-renewable materials vs beginning a skill. We used to teach kids skills, and enjoy the badly made projects created by beginners. I don't know if I'm able to express this well. I've had a stroke and my words aren't as good as they used to be. Basically it used to be acceptable to have a long timeline for learning a useful craft. Feels like modern crafting is more like a production pipeline vs highly crafted items that we were allowed the time in which to slowly learn them. So nowadays we aren't allowed to take time to grow in a skill that could be useful. We are pumping out dopamine-dispensers without the deeper growth behind it. Hope that makes sense at all😅
I have a couple hot takes being an environmental minded person. 1) I don’t love thrifting. I’m petite/short and it’s hard to find stuff that fits. I’d rather buy a couple well made pieces that will last from an ethical company or local artist 2) being an environmentalist doesn’t mean you smoke weed!!! Or are interested in talking about it. This assumption gets really annoying to me
@ I think it’s the earthy hippie, counter culture vibes for sure. Natural fabrics, like hemp, give way to this assumption. I get it. I don’t care if people smoke or don’t but people assuming I know the best flower shops distracts from what I’m about and why I choose to live a more sustainable lifestyle
Love this video! The straw ban reminds me of some discourse when nys was looking at charging for plastic bags and some ppl were getting hate for being against this as they could not afford to purchase reusable shopping bags. Sure alot of people get free ones at events but it was an important reminder.
As an avid traveler, thanks for bringing up flying. I love travelling the world. I enjoy discovering new cultures and new countries. Alot of people outside of the movement will point fingers at me. Yet, I do practically everything else right. I buy my stuff second hand or from small artists. I use bar products or products that ae certified from a third party and use reusables where possible. I think me taking ONE vacation a year is not what causes climate change. So yes, I will fly to Uzbekistan or Kenya if I want to. 🌏🌎🌍✈
I'm a global traveler too. I try to make the trip as long as I can and use as much public transportation as possible. You are doing all the right things. It's about being 90% reduction or as much as you can. The environmentally damaging companies have used their money to fund PACs to put the onus on individuals. Most of the climate damaging companies (only a 57mega sized) cause about 75+% of all greenhouse gasses. So not only avoid these companies with purchases and investments but also the products they produce. Good luck and safe travels!
I am an environmental science teacher and I challenge my students with my definition of environmentalism: People who want to keep humans on the planet, living well, for as long as possible. I think your parameters fit my definition with them 😊 especially when hitting the ableism marks. We want people to live well - so sometimes making waste is necessary for that mark.
About hot take 9 ... It is not about the gas milage. CO2 released at that hight is more effective than on the ground, and that is the reason why flying is so ridiculously bad for the planet. I found this out using the CO2 calculator of my governments environmental agency (UBA in Germany) that accounts for this. One flight from Frankfurt to Aberdeen equals all of my emissions for the rest of the year. So driving from California to Ohio is probably still the better option for the planet. Love your content and I hope you see this Also do with that information what you want, I hope no one refrains from seeing family because of this
Love the take on plastic. I use the 7 Rs in order: Refuse, Reduce, Repair, Repurpose, Reuse, Rot, Recycle. I try to reduce 90% impact. I travel abroad but do it for 2-3 months at a time and use public transportation whenever I can .I absolutely agree about EVs. I try to focus on food waste. Wishrecycling is a horrible problem. I've always been antiwar even though I have a degree in history with focus on military history. The e defense budget should be cut in half but it's protected by PACs.
I love all of your hot takes, especially the abelist on anti war. I do have a gripe though 😇. The thumbmail grabbed my attention, because as someone that knows American Sign Language, that's an "X" and I was dying to see where you used it. 😜
I would love to hear more about your veteran lore (if you’re comfortable sharing, ofc)! Like what were your reasons for joining, did it “live up to your expectations” (for lack of a better phrase…), and also I’d love to hear your in-depth thoughts on why all veterans should be anti-war!
Yes to the plastic thing. It's also something that puts people off trying to reduce: they say to me well some plastic is necessary... I'm like yes I agree! Also with everything becoming rechargable, EVs etc: lithium, which is used for those batteries, is a finite resource... and its used for medication. I don't have a solution, but its an example of how there is a lot of nuance in being eco-friendly. AND YES to all single-use is bad. There is a hierarchy (non-recyclable being at the bottom), but I got given some hot chocolate for christmas. One sachet in a separate cardboard box is one serving. Tossing it in the recycling, I was like well the resources used to produce that cardboard using resources and then using resources to recycle it is so wasteful. Obvs I own it now so I'll use it up, but I'm not going to be buying myself something like that. And with recycling, I recently reflected: to make it worth it, I need to be USING recycled things, which I do not. No point recycling if its not going nowhere anyway.
is there any way you could make a video on advice for dealing with climate anxiety? my anxiety has been very bad since hurricane helene and i almost cant handle it.
I totally agree. You feel helplesss. Another possible resource is Lessons from the Climate Anxiety Counseling Booth by Kate Schapira. It discussed years of a Climate Anxiety counselor dealing with everyday people worried about our existence through Climate Change. Some very good insights.
Huh, I didn't know you were a veteran! I agree with the anti-war sentiment wholeheartedly, it's always interesting to hear perspectives from people with far more experience with it than anyone I know personally.
Hello Emma listening while I sew with “ plastic “ but it’s reused and reclaimed material and I enjoy it too :) I started to do more other Rs like repair, repurpose and reuse more often. lMO lithium (EV) , recycling, and such are not the only way forward. Take CaRe both of you.
As a Defence Analyst I did indepth study of the history of the geographic area, conflict, the parties involved as well as their policies. Read the Hamas Charter (both versions) for insight into the cause of the conflict. Do not confuse the Gazans with Hamas.
I was prepared to be annoyed at this but was pleased. I’ve seen very little of people who are trying to live zero waste say any of those criticisms. The people who claim that individual efforts are pointless if corporations don’t reduce waste especially are just telling us that they aren’t going to bother.
I love these perspectives, and the fact that they're gaining more attention. Much like veganism, expecting perfection and calling reduction to the degree a person can access and sustain not good enough, just burns people out and hurts the movement. It just fosters elitism. Sustainable, accessible reduction of harm and improvement of good efforts to the best degree you can manage, is plenty in my eyes. It shows care, and seriousness. Be sure to reassess regularly where those levels are for you too, humans are transient and have different needs at different times. Remember; the point of all of this is a net gain of wellbeing on the planet for those who need it. That includes you, and your wellbeing 🩵 The anti war point VERY meaningfully fits right into this. That is a huge factor in wellbeing, war is horrific for not only wellbeing, but stalls our progress and moving on from our unsustainable systems. Modern colonisation itself, a violent domination of most other territories of the world, may well have been one of the biggest roots of the current systemic issues threatening the world. It is a highly revered staple of the ideologies that are blockading us from the change the world urgently needs.
EVs are worse for the environment than normal cars because you gotta produce so many battieries and many of the materials come from war torn countries, also if the electricity you charge your ev with is made with coal or petrol it would just be better to use a combustion engine and maybe buy an old car to not introduce the construction of a new car into the world.
@@TheSimpleEnvironmentalist Nice video! I still think that it's better to use a good car (not a truck, those are awful and very uncommon here in Europe) that you already have instead of buying a new EV, which is what many people do to become "green". As you say the real solution is to take cars off the road, public transportation, walking and cycling should be the norm and car should be for rare and "special" occasions. Also hell yeah on the refurbished and repairable tech, I do all the repairs at my home that I can legally do, as everyone should and governments should enforce repair-ability. The EU for example is forcing phone companies to make phones with removable batteries from 2025.
I believe people would be surprised to know just how many veterans pursue environmental education after their service is up. I’ve met a lot of people in school that served and are going on to pursue environmental careers. There is so much waste and pollution in the military, just in day-to-day operations, that to see the whole totality of the resources spent on this style of governance is very shocking. It did shock me when I heard some of the stories. Very illegal things happening with disposal of chemicals, oils, etc. It happens more than people think.
I’m listening to this video while donating plasma, which involves HEAPS of single use plastic and other materials, and now I’m wondering if more “militant” zero wasters are anti-plasma/blood/organ/whatever donation
I'm currently trying to be 0 waste in non food and pharmacy aspects of my life,, because restricting food destroys me,, nor like officially or anything this is the first time I'm writing it anywhere but yess it's so fing abalist I have an ev because I needed to get a new car because I used the motability scheme because I needed to drive automatic,, but before I was going to get a 2010 desil and then use chip fat where possible
These hot takes are not hot enough. Maybe to some people for sure, but most of them are logical conclusions if you indeed pay attention to the nuances and have the bigger picture in mind.
I can't believe that any environmentalist could possibly be pro-war?? Just the habitat destruction, let alone the terrible cost to human and non-human lives... and the fact that if you're in a warzone, you're certainly not living your greenest life (or any best life) because you're just trying to stay alive.
I HATEEEE SEEING PEOPLE BUY BRAND NEW MASON JARS FOR EVERYTHING! I know you have a salsa jar or jam jar or something. USE THAT. Or maybe a tub from mosturizer??? Buying new mason jars to be aesthetic is not environmentally friendly your contributing to how companies use "being aesthetic" to convince people they need something
Every single thing I've read and heard about it said that flying was the worst possible thing you could do as an individual, so I'd love to see sources for it not being so bad actually. But either way, I think it's a little wild to say "it's alright you can fly" and "deleting emails helps" in the same breath. Do our actions matter or do they not? And storing emails isn't even the part of the process that uses up the most energy, so if you want to talk about emails it's better to unsubscribe from unnecessary newsletters than to delete emails we've already received. Ultimately yes, there's nothing we as individuals can do that'll save or doom the world, but in a fairer, more sustainable society, would we still be able to fly several times in a lifetime? Would we be able to drive whenever we want to? We live in the same world those corporations exist in. When they finally stop ruining our world, it'll change our lives too, on personal levels, and we have to acknowledge and accept that.
It's the nuance. Fly if its better for the environment or drive if that's better for the environment: you can compare using a carbon calculator tool. And yep its also good to unsubscribe. I know though I delete 'junk' mail daily but then the ones I actually need for a few days end up there for years. The internet isn't in the sky: everything on the internet is stored in gigantic server machines that take energy. So if you delete things you don't need, that's good. If you need to fly to see your family once a year, its okay to do that. It's about not being unnecessarily wasteful: I know I don't need all those emails I haven't deleted
@Guguchina I know how the internet works, I'm saying that storing your text emails isn't using up as much energy as these emails being sent in the first place. In which situations is flying better than driving? All I can think about is very long distances. But then why do you need to go that far? Let's be honest and say that for most people, flying isn't a necessity. It's to go do something fun thousands of kilometres away. Cool. Still shouldn't even be possible. In the world we all pretend to want, flying would be a much rarer thing. And it's bad enough for anyone to do it, but then hearing UA-camrs argue that it's fine when they do it, even though their entire platform is about "environmentalism"? At some point it goes beyond having to live in a society and crosses into pure hypocrisy.
our actions matter! every reduction we can take matters. As I said, I'm not saying everyone should fly frivolously...but I am not going to give up seeing my family! I can make a longer video soon :)
Agree with being anti-war, but you lost me at "genocide in Gaza". Read up about the history of the geographic area and specifically the Charter of Hamas. Israel has the right and the responsibility to defend herself.
Israel does have the right to defend itself, but they've gone way, way, way overboard. I defended them at first, but some of their actions have been beyond the pale-- like when they deliberately targeted and murdered those World Central Kitchen volunteers last spring. Totally and completely unnecessary. WCK was in NC after Helene and is in Los Angeles now, by the way.
I have read a whole lot on it, Gazans also have the right to defend themselves that do not include mass slaughter :) I hope you read up on it more, too!
These are my personal hot takes about zero waste, what are yours??? Should I make a video reacting to your low waste hot takes?

My hottest take is that Crafting is a part of the movement, and we need to acknowledge that as being a keystone of the push. I rarely see that in the conversation outside of crafting groups, and the discussion around how waste is sometimes unavoidable.
Yeeah. Partly because fixing recycling and reusing means having way more people with small skilled trades closer to where the end user is. Tailoring, mending and darning, electronics repair, metal casting, a LOT of things. Individual crafters today contribute to the market demand for easily available tutorials, plans, workshops, and tools, and give people mastering these skills an audience that can help them earn a living.
oh interesting!
true!
I hope the world improves so much that in the future, my best is somebody's worst.
omg wild!
yes!!
Wow, how cool is this!
woah nice!
I usually don't use them for food storage, except for dry pet treats after I sanitize them (I dehydrate beef liver for my dog, he goes nuts for them)
that's not weird at all!
good points!
Also a lot of my safe foods are uber-processed, over-packaged crap, and I would love to seek alternatives, but I need to get treated for my ED first😅 (ARFID gang!)
My personal hot take is that I think some environmentalists are dangerously close to some conservative anti-science fearmongering.
Of course! Chronic migraine and ND here, I know that perfection is impossible and that this isn't talked about enough :)
I have never thought about the possibility of flying actually being better than driving! I rarely travel in general and even more rarely fly but this makes me feel much better about any flights I might need to take in the future. Thank you for this video!
it sure does depend on the distance, vehicle, etc but it may be better! It's worth looking into for your next trip, thank you!
And dressedly come back on our consumption these company companies will be begin to waver Maybe Maybe more responsible companies will be able to take their place?
so true! Yes there are good companies out there which is why we should shop there :)
You should remake the eco-ableism video!
i'm on it! I'm getting lots of hate for calling audiobooks reading so that's fueling me haha
@TheSimpleEnvironmentalist Oh nooo, yeah I agree with you it is reading!
@@mollyelainemoran right!
@@TheSimpleEnvironmentalist that's so wild to me honestly. Audiobooks helped me read over 14 books in 2024 and allowed me to get through work with something to do
Audiobooks were the only way I was able to read the books I wanted to during college
Every little bit helps, and people who share different perspectives to what is achievable make the effort more accessible to everyone.
thank you! I love nuance haha. Yay for lessening your impact, you're so right, your small actions matter!
Same with planes, you are definitely better off bringing your own food, even if just for taste purposes.
love this, thank you!
woah!
Even though I'm a member of your channel, I want and need to send you this "super thank you" 💚
YOU ARE SIMPLY THE BEST THANK YOU SO SO MUCH
I would love to see an updated video on eco-ablism :) I'm disabled and want to thank you for bringing that to light.
I'm making it soon!! probably April :)
thanks for sharing!
Thanks for another great video 😊❤
you are so right! it's frustrating :(
I always use natural light during the day and never even thought about the energy I was saving. I just strongly prefer natural light and can’t stand when natural light and artificial light mix. Like if my room is lit by the sun through my window and you come in and turn on the overhead light, suddenly the room is disgusting and I want to stop existing until things are better
it's so wild, right?!
Being an environmentalist and not caring about humanitarian crises is wild to me. Literally that “I can excuse racism, but I draw the line at animal cruelty” scene from Community
SAME!!!! HUH?!?!
Hope that makes sense at all😅
oooh that's a good point!
You expressed it perfectly. All skills take time to develop and racing ahead is neither good for us nor for the environment.
This assumption gets really annoying to me
I wonder where the weed thing comes from. My uneducated guess is people mistake hemp for weed for some reason? Probably Big Cotton lies 🤔
Totally valid!
omg it could be big cotton that would be wild!
Love this video! The straw ban reminds me of some discourse when nys was looking at charging for plastic bags and some ppl were getting hate for being against this as they could not afford to purchase reusable shopping bags. Sure alot of people get free ones at events but it was an important reminder.
omg so true!!
Good luck and safe travels!
we have to do so in moderation!
nice ideas here!
I love that!
Love your content and I hope you see this
Also do with that information what you want, I hope no one refrains from seeing family because of this
woah really? Do you have a source where I can read more that's interesting!

YES!!! So well said once again :)
So down to earth as always, thank you for being authentic and encouraging people to do what they can even if that's only a little

oooh I would love to share but I'm not sure if there would be much interest,...let me see if I can spin it in an eco way :)
OMG so true about the lithium!! Love these takes
is there any way you could make a video on advice for dealing with climate anxiety? my anxiety has been very bad since hurricane helene and i almost cant handle it.

Hello Emma listening while I sew with “ plastic “ but it’s reused and reclaimed material and I enjoy it too :) I started to do more other Rs like repair, repurpose and reuse more often. lMO lithium (EV) , recycling, and such are not the only way forward. Take CaRe both of you.
woah so cool!
As a Defence Analyst I did indepth study of the history of the geographic area, conflict, the parties involved as well as their policies. Read the Hamas Charter (both versions) for insight into the cause of the conflict. Do not confuse the Gazans with Hamas.
For sure I think many people equate Hamas to all Palestinians and that is unfair and unjust
I was prepared to be annoyed at this but was pleased. I’ve seen very little of people who are trying to live zero waste say any of those criticisms. The people who claim that individual efforts are pointless if corporations don’t reduce waste especially are just telling us that they aren’t going to bother.
hahahaha thanks for the open mind! I agree, these are not said enough!
Another great video, thank you 💚 I especially agree with the hot take that zero waste isn't all or nothing.
thank you so much!

The name „Zero Waste“ is harmful to the movement and should be called „Low waste“ instead so it doesn’t seem out of reach to most of the population.
that sure is a hot take! I am not sure it's harmful, but it can scare people away! my full thoughts here :) ua-cam.com/video/QY5ZOT2T1uU/v-deo.html
That includes you, and your wellbeing 🩵
The anti war point VERY meaningfully fits right into this. It is a highly revered staple of the ideologies that are blockading us from the change the world urgently needs.
you are so right!

EVs are worse for the environment than normal cars because you gotta produce so many battieries and many of the materials come from war torn countries, also if the electricity you charge your ev with is made with coal or petrol it would just be better to use a combustion engine and maybe buy an old car to not introduce the construction of a new car into the world.
not worse...but not the savior! Full video here :) ua-cam.com/video/WhdGz7z7Eug/v-deo.html

I can't believe that any environmentalist could possibly be pro-war?? it's so wild!
Yeah the ableist and privileged video of Lauren swanning around New York on foot filling up jars in multiple locations did not age well!
nope......
You lost me at genocide in Gaza.
okay!!
I can make a longer video soon :)
well said!
Agree with being anti-war, but you lost me at "genocide in Gaza". Read up about the history of the geographic area and specifically the Charter of Hamas. Israel has the right and the responsibility to defend herself.
😂😂😂😂😂
Israel does have the right to defend itself, but they've gone way, way, way overboard. I defended them at first, but some of their actions have been beyond the pale-- like when they deliberately targeted and murdered those World Central Kitchen volunteers last spring. Totally and completely unnecessary. WCK was in NC after Helene and is in Los Angeles now, by the way.
I have read a whole lot on it, Gazans also have the right to defend themselves that do not include mass slaughter :) I hope you read up on it more, too!
