This potential serial killer was first discovered by Thomas Hargrove and the Murder Accountability Project. Hargrove, a veteran journalist, developed groundbreaking technology that uses data analysis to identify patterns in unsolved murders across the United States. Hargrove's innovative approach identifies clusters of unsolved killings according to victimology, methodology, and geography. He effectively identified serial killer Darren Deon Vann, which eventually led to his arrest and conviction.
The Murder Accountability Project identified Chicago as having one of the largest clusters of unsolved killings. The victims, predominantly African-American women from marginalized communities, have been found across the city of Chicago, regularly discovered in vacant lots, abandoned buildings, and dumpsters. The victims included Nancy Walker, Gwendolyn Williams, Reo Holyfield, Theresa Bunn, Hazel Lewis, and Margaret Gomez. They were frequently strangled and abandoned in the dark corners of the city.
The chilling mystery of the Chicago Strangler case is riddled with potential suspects, each with a haunting history of violence. Among these are convicted murderers Andre Crawford, Geoffrey Griffin, Vincent Hudson, and Larry Bright. Each of these individuals has a disturbing track record of targeting the same demographic of victims as the Chicago Strangler, employing eerily similar methods of murder.
Hargrove has suggested that Darren Deon Vann could be responsible for the Illinois cold cases. Vann confessed to a series of murders in Indiana that bear a striking resemblance to the Chicago Strangler killings. His victims were primarily African-American women involved in sex work or battling addiction, a profile that mirrors the victims of the Chicago Strangler. His confirmed victims were Afrikka Hardy, Anith Jones, Teaira Batey, Kristine Williams, Tracy Martin, Sonya Billingsley, and Tanya Gatlin. Despite these uncanny similarities, the search for concrete evidence linking Vann to the Chicago murders continues, leaving the case shrouded in mystery and uncertainty.
Some suspect that a single perpetrator may not be responsible, but instead, these victims are the result of systemic issues, from racial and class bias to the challenges faced by law enforcement agencies in solving cold cases. It's a call for justice, a plea for answers, and a testament to the resilience of those who refuse to let these victims be forgotten.

Even though it was grim and difficult to listen to, your speaking about each of the victims individually and naming them was a laudable thing to do - thank you for your humanity.

I live in Chicago. The unsolved murders in this city is crazy.
The production quality of these videos is incredible
Thanks! Lots of hours went into this one.
Yeah, that view at 18:47 is absolutely amazing.
Takes him long enough
Except for the background “noise???” Choice in this. It is offbeat and makes it semi unlistenable . Other than that great work
This is about "Dead Women", and ur concerned about the Videos Quality?? Smdh
I’m an Uber driver in Chicago. When I first moved here I really needed the money so I would drive late and throughout the south and west side of the city as well into the south burbs.
Before I ever heard about this case I was near 119th avenue around 11:30 pm and I pick up this woman. She was going to the casino, we had a nice conversation on our way. At some point she begins telling me about how a body ended up in the dumpster right around her block as well as details of this case.
It sent shivers down my spine but I thought maybe it was just a random coincidence.
Well I would end up hearing more of these stories from people around the way that would put to doubt any uncertainty.
As a black woman who is very vocal on speaking out about black femicide, and educating people on the subject matter, I appreciate this video so, so much. Thank you for being so kind and respectful towards the victims. I hope that those who haven't yet gotten justice for their cases yet receive it soon. Great video. You have definitely earned a new subbie.
True your comment. I am Also appreciative of this channel covering these cases of women that others forget/ feel Not as important 😢 ....a sad fact, sadly but true😢😢
Thank you reporting on this tragic , but thoughtfully done video.
Subbed w notifications on.
Femicide 😂 wtf
@@syn4588 yeaa....? That's the word for it.
Another thing to love about this channel is that you mention each of the victims names and humanize people that have been forgotten about and are just statistics. That’s what made your other videos like the I-65 Killer, I-70 Killer, Route 8 Killer etc. so enthralling yet emotional. When the videos end you feel sad like you were there but almost relieved they were over.
Thanks for the kind words!
Yes
Very compassionate reply.
Listen, as a native Chicagoan, I can talk about the broken city politics of this place for days. While I wouldn't doubt that perhaps there was one or two individuals responsible for a handful of the cases in this list, I also know that Chicago has a deeply broken and biased system when it comes to criminal justice. This is probably one of the most segregated cities in the country. The areas that you listed where a majority of these victims were found are notoriously impoverished areas of the city with a majority of blacks living in those neighborhoods, especially Washington Park. This city will fall all over itself to try and talk about all the shiny new attractions and tourist traps they've got going on in the downtown area, but when it comes to actually giving a damn about the people who live in this city year round, the actual blue collar workers that make this place run, well, the city and it's politics will always turn a blind eye. There is such a vast juxtaposition between the extremely wealthy neighborhoods and the extremely poor neighborhoods that it's literally like night and day. And unfortunately I've seen first hand that Chicago has and continues to toss those that are the most vulnerable to the side and pretend that they are invisible.
What's more is this is also happening in New Orleans. I would venture to guess that these cities aren't the only examples.
Well, those are areas such predators seek! Take the infamous Jack the Ripper, hunting prostitutes in the poorest area of London, when you're in a place with such tightly packed poverty, crimes and sex job it's easier to find a victim staying unnoticed and potentially this victim won't be reported for weeks after, or, as we see here, police won't really care about solving it as they have too much going on.
Not to mention what they are doing about that other killer going for young drunk men. The only reason JWG was caught was because he made a mistake. The police will do nothing unless those racial boxes are checked.
I'm from Chicago, and I can verify this is unfortunately true😢
Makes sense. Women that are prostitutes and dose off on drugs with no family aren’t nearly as important as a wealthy entrepreneur with a loving family. Lmao is that really controversial? It’s common sense.
Don’t look just in Chicago look to the near suburbs as well it raises the number of victims significantly.
So sorry to these women and their families. It's horrifying how uncaring the system seems to be and how it disregarded their lives. No one is their addiction, I wish the justice system would stop treating addiction and sex work as a crime worthy of murder.
Maybe the killer is a police officer. That explains why the Chicago PD is unwilling to investigate these murders and also why the perpetrator was able to avoid leaving behind DNA evidence, or if he did then somebody helped him cover it up.
This could be the reason no one is getting caught!
I seriously doubt it. I think most of them are unrelated. 18 out of the 51 had DNA and it was all unrelated and didn't match anyone in the system. That should tell you something. Also all the areas these women were found in are dangerous not being a drug addicted sex worker. So imagine how more dangerous they are being one.
Unlikely. It’s more likely a crazed Blackman. Think about it. The killer would need to blend in with his environment. Since most of these killings are in the ghetto then the killer is likely from the ghetto.
Their was a case like that in Russia
They'd probably deal with it somehow
It’s scary to watch this video in Chicago at night knowing there’s a change the person responsible for all these murders might still be alive walking the streets and riding the train like a normal person…😢
Same! I don't wanna leave the house at this point
Well if your not a drug addicted hooker I think your safe.
A very high chance he's alive and well, as the first case linked to him/them was in 2001. If he/they were in their mid-late 20's then they'd be in their 50's now and still very capable. Try and get a good night's sleep.
Not to mention all the gang members that shoot at each other constantly. Chicago is crazy all I can say is if your afraid get the hell outta the dodge 😂
Just stay on ready, carry mace, keep your eyes open, try not to be out at night (if possible), travel in groups or w another, keep a knife w you, and if anyone appears suspicious, record on your phone and call the police(😅 I know they don't care). Blessings!
Absolutely incredible video as always, and you did such a good job at trying to find pictures of the women that showed them in better times in their life, it's easy to find the first picture you come across that's likely during a time when they were struggling, but for example the mother of the 2 boys who was killed in 2014, that's definitely not a particularly recent picture, but it shows her at a better time. It shows you're a good person
My one constructive note is that the backing music for this video did become a bit grating with that one particular sound occuring every couple of seconds. Would love if a different bed could be used in to it. But again, that's the only thing about this video that isn't absolutely amazing. You should be so damn proud. You are doing amazing work
Thanks for the kind words and constructive criticism. Much appreciated!
@@pandoxvideos I should specify that I mean the music from 24:00 ish on towards right near the end. Every other music choice felt perfectly good, so it's really only the smallest of things :)

You really deserve more viewers, your videos are so well put together.
Thank you for the kind words!
Absolutely. Wonderful job well put together in all the videos there certainly should be more views and subs .
Very well done and interesting video! Sadly, I do have to reject the "Chicago strangler" theory, as many of the cases don't seem to connect in any way. So, IMO, there's either multiple serial killers and a few nonrelated cases (like the woman who was dismembered), one serial killer and a bunch of unrelated cases, or they're all unrelated to each other. In any event, its a horrifying thing that the murders of over 50 women remain unsolved.
I agree. Crimes of opportunity. It would be a perfect way to cover up multiple killers.
Yes I also agree. I think it's a combination of everything. I doubt it's the work of 1 or 2 people. Them finding out the DNA in 18 out of 51 victims don't match and don't match anyone in the system is very telling.
Fifty unsolved murders in such a massive city, spanning several decades, is not that great a number.
Great video. Whether it’s 1 or 51 killers it’s so scary to think about
I can tell you put a lot of work into this one. Great video
Yes, thank you!
RIP & justice to all the victims.

I remember hearing talk of a strangler in chicago years ago but cops were playing it down and refusing to say they have a serial killer..... and i live in Canada and still heard of this
Women in general that are doing prostitution are seen as less. Personally i believe cops don't bother because their"jhons" are sometimes people of certain positions and they just rather not rock the boat. I think it was last year in Florida in a prostitution sting a judge was one of the "Johns" on that list. So its deeper than what you think.
There called NHI murders . No humans involved
Been waiting for you to upload for ages lmao haven’t watched yet but I know this is going to be incredible.

Thanks for creating this video! My heart goes out to all the victims. May they rest in peace. 🙏
I grew up on the west side of Chicago and my family relocated to the suburbs in the mid 90s. I currently live on the east coast and i remember my sister telling me two years ago about the missing women.when the ID channel did a three-part special, i tried finding it but ,couldn't find it. Im glad you touched upon this story. I found it to be very informative! I will definitely share this video with my female family members and other women I know that visit the Chicago area.
Thanks for watching

Very nicely put together. Thank you for seeing all of these woman as human.

Incredible video. I was thrilled to get a notification for a new video. Missed your videos. Your efforts show and is very much appreciated ❤
I heard this story mentioned not all that long ago and was surprised and disappointed that there was so little to find about it. Thanks for taking the time, just chanced by this today. More than 50 lives is just unbelievable - the amount of unhappiness this has brought to so many is just shocking.
It may be possible that the guy responsible for the most of these murders is still killing, but left the strangulation part behind him, as known typically strangulation is used by sexually active males and those with problems prefer using knives as a surrogate of their genitals. Victims were getting older and 19 year is a long streak to have, if he's already an older man, but not old enough to fully stop, commiting attacks with a weapon would make sense also as a way to control a oman who may try to overpower him.
Always excited to see a post from this channel
Thank you!

Thanks for covering these cases. I think that likely this is similar to the Atlanta Child Murders, where there is likely multiple serial killers involved, likely a primary one who accounts for many, if not most, of the cases. Then many of the cases are unrelated, singular, killers.
Awesome video. You did a wonderful job telling the stories of the victims which is amazing considering the huge number of victims which is crazy.amaziing video as always

Your channel deserves so many more subscribers! Its hard to find a good true crime channel that is so good and covers cases i haven't heard of or that ive only heard wispers of i.e this video and the smiley face killer. I think it's one of the worst thing's for someone to lose their life's and never get their death or location figured out. I think investigators should do more to find answers for the victim's family, over "caring about official sentencing by trial" *there is only so much that a trail can do about a serial killer, life sentence/death penalty, etc. So we really should focus more on finding answers about all the victims rather than just punishment.. let life in prison be there, then get any answers you can from them. Its beyond important to find closure for the family of the victims.
I love this channel.
Thanks for the love!
My belief is that by pure coincidence, 4-5 serial killers got to use the same area to scout victims, every suspect in this seems like they killed 6 or 7 women each
It's only a matter of time before this channel explodes with new subs. The videos are just too good.
Thanks so much!
Right. I just subbed to this channel. Wonderful find ❤
The fact that the news reports and people talk about ridiculous crap, and Ive never even heard of this, a serial killer on par with the GREEN RIVER KILLER for christ sake, is insane.
Exactly! The news is so stupid! We never hear about actual local or natation real shit that's going on. I don't give a fuck about the current clothing trends on the "news".
Unfortunately, I don’t think this is the case of a serial killer. My sister went to college in Chicago and she had a black roommate that got physically assaulted by a homeless man on one of the trains. She talked to the police but they didn’t really care, and it made her terrified to go out alone and she only lasted a semester. The Chicago police does not care about black women and never takes any of their claim seriously.
But thank you for this video, very well put together and very informing❤️
do you even hear yourself? lmao "yeah i dont think these 51 strangled women are related bc one time i heard my sisters black friend got attacked by a homeless guy" wild
@@420nerdgirleh their point has some merit imo. We’d need more info on how common this type of crime is in general, unsolved or not. If it turns out that 100s have been solved over the same time period with a bunch of different perps this video could be misleading.
I've always felt like it's unlikely ALL of these women were killed by the same killer, but within this cluster of unsolved murders it's extremely likely there is a serial killer responsible for a large chunk of them.
This case has always reminded me of the Grim Sleeper, another case where police didn't really care about the victims at all. He got away with it for 25 years before his son was arrested for a violent crime and they took his DNA as per California law, then they figured out that whoever his sons' father was committed those murders.
It really can be astounding how many serial killers have racked up heavy body counts due to police not caring enough to fully investigate their crimes.
I see what you are saying, but I think that maybe the majority of these cases are committed by the same person or maybe even the same group of people. Maybe some of these cases are outliers, but I would say the majority are probably done by the same person or group. Also, I’m sorry your sister’s roommate had to go through that. That seems traumatizing.
So 34 is what we're calling older women now? Lol

What's scarier: 51 murderers or 1 murderer capable of killing 51 people?
1 murder. And scarier than that is the fact that it has gone virtually unnoticed by law enforcement as the work of a single person.
I'm not a professional but my guess is that this dude is a police officer or a man in an office that the local woman would know and trust, his mother died when he was young due to overdose after a battle with addiction that lasted his whole life up until then and because she never said goodbye to him, he lets his victims send letters and/or call their loved ones.

Absolutely horrifying, an insatiable monster on the lose, poor, poor women murdered and discarded like rubbish. Great research, must have taken some time putting all this together, great work and channel.
About the background sound. I found it gave an eerie vibe and didn't bother me at all, but I liked how it transitions to a more mysterious theme as the subject changed to the Trail of Tears. The work that goes into his content is noticeable.
What's scary is that the murderer could be in the comments making comments and we wouldn't know😊
Sus
I like how you took the time to say each victims name.
I lived in Chicago from 2014 to 2019. I would read the newspapers back to back and it was very apparent that there was a serial killer, targeting black women in poorer neighbourhoods. The MO was also clear, leaving half naked, them in dumpsters or abandoned buildings. That's just from reading the paper - how can the Chicago PD deny there is a pattern? Or that there is a serial killer? I will tell you why, because Chicago PD is both institutionally racist and classist, and woefully underfunded. Moreover, the whole policing system is a fractured joke. No national crime database, lack of cross jurisdiction cooperation and poorly trained officers. I am very sad about this because it's a wonderful city of great people.
Had my speakers cut out for a second, and, it changed a sentence to along the lines of: "The people of this city were terrified of the prospect of a cereal living along them." lol
0:40 Saved by the captions! Enunciating the word "horrors" can sound a little goofy, but given the context of its use, I wouldn't want it to be misheard for another homophone. If you do your own editing, it's nothing a little "punch and roll" can't fix.
Aside from the nit-pick, I enjoyed the video! keep up the good work 😁
I think it was a cop or former officer. It could explain the situation not being taken seriously as an officer could have influenced the decision made in the investigation as well as given the department the motivation to not take action in the cases. I know accusing an officer is cliche and viewed as being nonsensical but it could also explain why there seems to be an expertise on behalf of the murder. An officer would know with their training what not to do. As well as could be a racial bias in the officer that caused the victims to be mostly black. Again I know this is pure speculation but remember the golden state killer was also an officer.
what is the background music in the intro called?
incredible video!
I find it hard to believe that a man managed to singlehandedly murder 51 women and not make a single error that could lead the police to him. Being this prolific and still remaining unidentified without even a police sketch or description is highly unlikely which would lead any reasonable person to the conclusion that the Chicago PD wasn't even trying.
I’m creeping up on 50 so I’ll let ya know
We’ve been there before. Gary Ridgway escaped justice for nearly two decades.
It's not that the killer never made any mistakes it's that the police don't investigate properly. Especially when it's minority women in sex work.
What about the green River serial killer
Look at Sam little. He killed close to 100. 🤔 When it's sex workers, addicts, and black women heads do not turn like when it's coeds.
I did roofs on abandoned house on one of the streets Daren Van hid his bodies in. Remember when the police were searching the houses. Almost ten years ago and I remember it like it was yesterday
So many bodies, so little effort I'm sure to find the person who did this. It's very sad and unnerving.
I hate speculating but I think it's an obvious sexual motivation, 75% of the victims being undressed or sexually assaulted. The different method of asphyxiation such as rope, plastic bag, seatbelts, electrical cord, etc suggest some kind of experimentation. Serial killer usually stick with one or two methods of killing that work unless they need to change for some reason.
I think the serial killer isn't working alone, it might be a 'two-man job' with two victims sometimes appearing within the same day on more than one occasion.
The thought that it's two or more unrelated serial killers targeting the same demographic from the same location is terrifying but is not impossible and should not be ruled out, I think in the same way The Freeway Killer was three independent serial killers.
I dont think ALL of these are related; seems kinda off that the killer once dismembered a body, wrapped one in duct tape and a comforter, set one on fire but most of the time just left them in an alley... HIGHLY improbable for a serial killer to shift his M.O. back and forth like that
also in some of the cases the police found DNA and I'm assuming that if ANY of the cases had matching DNA you would have said so...
These thumbnails are becoming epic!
Thanks Mal!
quality👍
Past 2 decades? Since 2000s? This is crazy?!?!? This is the first im hearing about this! Infuriating!

😢😢😢 this is horrifying. I live in illinois, right outside of chicago and I have never heard of this until today. RIP to all the victims and their families. 🙏🏽
If they are all linked to one offender then the offender started very young. Unfortunately Chiraque is such a jungle that murder is the norm. It would also seem that the offender has never been in prison recently because his DNA hasn’t been identified.
I think one night someone was trying to get a friend of mine in Chicago. She asked me for a ride to these apartments on the south side to meet a man she met online but when we arrived at the location it was no apartments anywhere around. It was a pitch black besides a dim yellow light on a factory and I just knew something wasn’t right and she felt it too and got scared I immediately started driving and told her I wasn’t going to leave you anywhere weird like that. They guy started texting her telling her that the apartments where directly behind the factory and she just need to drive down the street with no street lights. Nope. A lot of women come up missing in Chicago it’s actually pretty scary
I live in Gary Indiana for two years just heard about this year I lived in Illinois since 2014 that’s when I first came out there smh
