I agree with you regarding Anne. It's easy now for her to think she should've saved herself but at 13? I don't know that she had the resources then to free herself without some help. And the longer she stayed with that abusive man, the harder it would've become to get away. Billy's scene with Flint could have such a double meaning, as most things do on this show. The line about "Gates turned his back on you, don't think I'll make the same mistake". Could mean Gates figuratively turned on Flint and Billy is saying he's loyal. Or he could mean Gates literally turned his back and Flint got the jump on him and Billy is saying "Don't think it would be as easy if you come at me". Maybe he means both at once. 🤔
The Spanish ship was thrown off the normal trade route, by a hurricane. So the normal ship's have no idea where the Spanish gold ship is. Remember Flint couldn't find the ship at the cove where it was supposed to be
