    Old EMD's are the veterans of the railway, but they will never give up.

    B&P lists 459 as a SD45-2. It was rebuilt from an SD45, should be rated 3200 HP. 455 is technically an SD40-2 in an SD45 shell, rated at 3000 HP. If you can find any original SD45 or SD45-2 these days, let me know, because they've all been modified so much.

    Oh yeah! And NS's are technically SD40-2's in an SD45-2 shell. CSX also as a few of those I think, in fact, very recently one CSX SD45-2 and an NS SD45-2 were paired together on CSAO job in New Jersey.

    @o00o00ozy The two SD45's that remain on the NYSW are still 3600HP V20 645's. They have only been upgraded to -2 electronics.

    There is nothing on the face of this Earth that sounds better than an EMD 16-567C. Nothing. Zip. Zero. Zilch. I don't know how many times I played this video through surround sound but I imagine I had it turned up to the point where it was as loud as the actual locomotives. This has got to be one of my all time favorite videos on youtube. Have you considered making full length movies and selling them?

  • @bonhommerichard1

    Superb vid, Eric! That "old Lady" Geep, still hasplenty of spunk left in her!
    Regarding SD-452's, in 1987 Wisconin Central bought used SD-45,s for mainline power with the3,600 h.p. engine. Their shop cut down the h.p. rating to 3,200 h.p. and the result is that got a lot of :bang for the buck" and prevented any further crank-shaft problems which was a design flaw when they were first introduced.

    Woahh!! at 10:15, awesome thottle up of the GP9!! Thanks for this video, I love the GP9 Sound, this engines are the mother model of EMD-GM 319 series in Spain, and 319 locomotives, are very importants in my "railfan life"

  • @Boss302fan
    @Boss302fan 12 років тому +2

    Because shortlnes tend to do more industry switching and do so with 2 man crews....visibility becomes a greater issue. In addition some railroads have seen a trend where lawsuits involving grade crossing accidents may have attorneys bring up the fact that the accident "could" have been prevented if the railroad has greater visibility. Also, in many cases the Class I railroads chopped the nose before they sold them to the shortline. (For example, all of ATSF's GP7u locomotives)

    Anyone have any idea what happened to the caboose ? It sat at the foster brook siding for a while. Then the Bradford yard, then was used a bit. But it’s been a few years since I last seen it. Did it get torched ?

    Hi, Eric,
    Thank you for responding. Have you heard or seen that Progress Rail Systems, i.e. CAT, has now manufactured PRV 43 Units with 3,600 h.p. CAT Engines? A
    railfan down in AL has been videographing them over the past year. They are sticking them in SD-60E car bodies. Wonder if that is replace the original SD-45!
