  • Cushcore may be often covered here on UA-cam, but what's my conclusion on the whole topic? Are these tire inserts, or tire inserts in general worth it?

I run Cushcore on any bike I ride seriously, I’m a heavier rider at 225 and it’s cheaper than replacing rims! I hadn’t thought about that nice pneumatic sound you miss with the dead thud of Cushcore, but it is indeed less satisfying to hear. I hit up curt gowdy last week and was real grateful for Cushcore when I was plowing into rocks to power up some of the technical climbs or down square edge stair-steps. Installation is a pain and I don’t look forward to tire changes, but I’ve gotten better at it with practice and have a technique that works for me.

I started running the 'Vittoria Air-Liner Light XC Trail' which is Y shaped for that side wall compression.. very nice. the tires do sound a little more 'dead'. Not long ago I stopped to let out a little air as a test, didn't get things back right and before long I was running flat... but it was ok enough to get by for about 1/2 a mile. Nice benefit if you're really stuck with a bad tire or no pump.

Nice video. Useful info. Those trails look great. Thanks for telling us they are at "Maryland mountain, in Blackhawk". But remember, your youtube video gets delivered to the entire planet. Personally, I still have no idea where (what state) "Blackhawk" is. It looks like Colorado?

I was running Cush Core out back when I was running Maxxis. I've since switched to DH casing Contis and opted to not run CC with them. I find the DH casing gives about the same benefit as CC but with less weight penalty and better sidewall support. I was mainly running CC to prevent split sidewalls when I was running EXO+ Maxxis. This was also on an acoustic bike, which really made it noticeably harder to climb on. I would totally run CC on both ends of an e-bike, just to deal with the extra weight of the e-bike.

Thicker casings and insets are the way to go with emtbs in my opinion! At the very least, a thicker casing.

Cush core is a must with carbon rims. Plus you can run 15psi if you want. Not only that but I’m pretty sure you can ride with a flat tire if you needed. The only downfall is the install, probably the most aggravating thing I ve ever done to my bike. It does get easier after your first install.
