Aetherflux Reservoir seems like a good choice for this stormy deck. It triggers off any spell cast, but since casting instants and sorceries does cause it to trigger, Veyran gives you double triggers for those specifically. The lifegain can give some much-needed survivability, and its a wincon of its own.

So I've been playtesting and tweaking this deck a lot recently, and I've come to a couple of really good budget options that you can add. First off is the Blistercoil Weird + Paradise Mantle combo, with Veyran out, you get 2 mana from blistercoil for every spell you cast, and it gets +2/+2 until end of turn, which means you have yet another creature that you can make unblockable to hit for a ton on the turns where you can 1 shot someone with commander damage, as well as another mana generating combo. Second, is the addition of Collected Conjuring. This card is a beast. Once you have anything out that copies your spells you're almost always going to get a hit with it, and generate value. In other words, it worked like intended.
Take a look at Aria of Flame. With Veyran's ability, that card gets out of hand very fast as it does progressively larger at twice the rate. Another great choice is Niv-Mizzet, Parun. Drawing a lot of cards and pinging opponents is very effective with her.
One of only two strix commanders I was excited for. I already built mine. It’s interesting to see the similarities and differences. I saw some spells here I may want to add to mine! Couple of suggestions I would make, haze of rage is a must. It’s a two mana sorcery with buyback AND storm! Paired with storm kiln artist it generates infinite mana and infinite storm, with or without veyran on the field. I also really like geometric nexus and altar of dementia for the deck. For all the spells you’ll be casting (and your opponents too), you’ll be able to generate really big blockers with nexus that you can then sac to the altar when you don’t need them, to make opponents mill obscene amounts of cards.
I am late to this, but Docent of Perfection is an amazing addition to this deck since itll give 2 1/1 Wizard tokens on every spell cast and then after you control 3 of them, it gives all of your wizards +2/+1 and flying (including nontoken Wizards like Veyran)
I immediately built a deck with her after getting the Prismari precon. I won my first game with her by casting Brass Bounty over and over again (thanks to Krark) and creating 2 7/7 fractal tokens (thanks to Deeka) for each cast/copy of that spell, then used that mana to cast expedite over and over again with Krark's effect to give them all haste. It was just disgusting lol
Some cool cards i found that work with her also are 1 red mana cantrips that give trample until end of turn. Helps with taking out individual players with how fast she can grow from spell slinging. Also things like fling work well too.
Niv-mizzet parun is a really good card in this deck and a win condition as well without even using the usual niv mizzet combos like curiosity. Also Aetherflux reservoir is awesome in here and despite not being that budget friendly it's also easy to fit in
10:00 - Sadly, (i say that because i had the same idea) only spells you cast will trigger firebrand, electrostatic field and guttersnipe ... So even if you copy your spell 8 times they will only trigger once. This is the main difference with Magecraft which triggers even on copied spells ....
There is also a good argument for changing the commander to Elsha of the Infinite to splash white for a few cards. Jeskai Ascendancy, feather (if you find a lot of spells target your own creatures.leading to possible inclusions like Orvar.) The jeskai ultimatum. Various Narsets. Firesong and sunspeaker. choice white instant and sorcery staples, some room for unique interaction in white that AREN'T staples.
I have an Veyran deck, and while I opted for not getting the storm package, my deck has some really cool alternative win cons. It's more focused on the token generation and swarming capabilities of the deck, as well as drawing and discarding cards. For win conditions, besides just the normal token damage, I have things like strixhaven stadium, mizzix's mastery, surge to victory (I LOVE THIS CARD) and time stretch (I almost never cast this from hand, it's either used through mizzix's mastery or surge to victory. I also opted to run the highest amount of cantrips that target so I can use orvar and zada as well, and those two can also be pretty strong win cons, ou at least help me get easier to my other win cons.
A little higher in price combo is Isochron Scepter + Dramatic Reversal + Sol Ring + Guttersnipe. Don't even need veyran on the field, but be sure to have some counter spells ready!
Shark typhoon seems like a great card in this deck, so does turnabout letting you untap all your lands to general a ton of mana for an expansion// explosion win. There's some great izzet x spells to like electro dominance, epic experiment. I'm making a list right now and I ultimately cut graoehsot because I wasn't going toward the more stormy version more of a control burn build built around abusing veyrans ability
Runaway Steam-Kin and Firemind’s Research both get double the counters. Runaway Steam-Kin can lead to lots of extra mana that is stored. Firemind’s Research builds counters fast. You can remove 2 counters to either draw a card or remove 5 counters to do 5 damage to any target. You will build those counters fast. They are also both budget. Steam-kin is about a $1 and Firemind’s Research is about 50 cents.
You left out Metallurgic Summonings and maybe Shark Typhoon. Sure they cost more, but not dying to the board wipe that clears away your tokens matters a lot. Also the Summonings can restock your hand late game. To that effect I think you should consider Past in Flames for access to the graveyard, and maybe even Mizzix Mastery. Im building a Dragon's Approach version of Veyran, with no dragons. Three damage to all my opponents over and over again and copied to hell and back until they all die!
Built this last week and every card shown was in my deck. Sakashima of a thousand faces copying Veyran is game winning plays. Love this deck very much!
fury storm is really good here, if you've played Veyran once fury storm can be cast in response to any instant or sorcery and have the copy of fury storm cony the original and vice versa, getting infinite magecraft triggers, so infinite p/t on veyran, infinite 4/4 fractals w/ deekah and infinite treasures w/ storm-kilin.
I made this as a commander deck last week. My turns take 10 mins and one of the members in my group got upset at me for my turn taking so long. Mind you im still new to the deck. And i didnt make it anything near completive. The said person said its to hardcore. I explained I have alot of room to work on this deck and I could add extra turns and copy them and be an ass. But yeah. Everyone in my group likes it expect that one person. Side note-- I dont think he liked being milled 21 cards with a wheel a card. (got to copy that spell twice. )I think that set him off even more. Also Adding Niv Mizzet Parun
I would just like to clarify, well if you have just Veryan on the battlefield it doubles* but if you copy Veryan it will only net you 2 additional triggers.
I think my favorite card to put with Veyran is Zada, Hedron Grinder. Because it essentially makes two copies of whatever spell you target with Zada and targets your other creatures. And those copies do trigger Veyran. Get those two out with Talrand or Young Pyromancer, cast a Shadow Rift or Slip Through Space and some other spells, your opponent is toast.
@@ODedonlife the problem of Ral's ability is that it says: "the next spell". So, there's no way you have to copy a Copy Spell. This text is confusing hahaha
@@luizgustavoferreiracandido1297 oh, right, I forgot the condition of the original spell needing a spell to copy or it gets removed from the stack as a state-based effect making the copied copy spell have no legal target either. I hate that bit.
Putting together a Veyran deck myself. It focuses on going wide with Talrand, Young Pyromancer and simular cards. Basically janky locust god, and very fun :)
I built a less than budget friendly Veyran deck shortly after release. It’s so fun. My only issue is I now want to add black and run Kess as the Commander. Might be too CEDH though :(
Why is Apex of Power not mentioned? I had Veyran and Swarm Intelligence out when I played Apex and I literally played 18 spells in one turn! It was glorious!
I've never played commander before but i do plan on building one especially if the conditions in our locality gets better. Whe that happens, this will be the first deck i'll build 😁
Funny enough just finished building my veyran deck. I did some different things like using Zada and mirrorwing dragon with a bunch of combat trick cards like fist of flames , slip through space, etc thought it was a fun take since if you play enough spells veyran can litterally just execute player after player. I also leaned more into tokens with empty the warrens to either help draw cards ,or give me an army to stop anyone. The deck goes fast though so I put in elixir of Immortality to help reset the deck if I draw too much.
Teferi, Mage of Zhalfir looks good as an addition so that your opponents can't respond. Mizzix Mastery also looks absurd with this deck. Then add some graveyard to library shufflers and you'll be almost unkillable (this part is a suggestion if games would take so long to finish).
My version of the deck is a bit on the "Break The Bank" side. Veyran, Voice Of Duality Adeliz, The Cinderwind Melek, Izzet Paragon Naru Meha, Master Wizard Deekah, Fractal Theorist Octavia, Living Thesis Talrand, Sky Summoner Birgi, God Of Storytelling/Harnfel, Horn Of Bounty Murmuring Mystic Charmbreaker Devils Guttersnipe Dualcaster Mage Runaway Steam-Kin Storm-Kiln Artist Goblin Electromancer Helm Of The Host Pyromancer's Goggles Metallurgic Summonings Reconnaissance Mission Xenograft Swarm Intelligence Sunbird's Invocarion Thousand-Year Storm Reminisce Quasiduplicate Mind's Desire Mind Sculpt Relentless Advance Replication Technique Tezzeret's Gambit Callous Dismissal Tamiyo's Epiphany Stealth Mission Maddening Cacophony Brass's Bounty Gravitic Punch Thud Honor The God-Pharaoh Forbidden Friendship Sizzle Doublecast Dragon Fodder Krenko's Command Call The Skybreaker Elemental Masterpiece Devious Cover-Up Lazotep Plating Blue Sun's Zenith Mission Briefing Stern Dismissal Mystic Reflection Whirlwind Denial Regress Memory Drain Opportunity Didn't Say Please Brain Freeze Thought Collapse Learn From The Past Increasing Vengeance Goblin Wizardry Fling Overblaze Tibalt's Trickery Scour From Existance Opal Palace Swiftwater Cliffs Izzet Guildgate Shivan Reef Temple Of Epiphany 15 Island 15 Mountain The idea is to beat my opponents down with massive amounts of creature tokens or mill them to death. Helm Of The Host is in the deck because I am a filthy degenerate that likes to make copies of my Commander for extra triggers. I intentionally left out Omniscience because that would make the deck insanely overpowered, though it would be fun. (The truth is that I only have 2 of them and they are both in other storm deck variants.) Tibalt's Trickery and Mind's Desire are both phenomenal cards in this deck. Build up a good storm count with Thousand-Year Storm, cast a cheap spell, then counter it with Trickery and you have a good boost to your storm count. Then, if you have enough mana left over, cast Mind's Desire and you can essentially play your whole deck two or three times in one go. Its just as enthusiastic as a Jodah Storm deck.
Something worth keeping in mind when building a deck like this, it's better to be base red than base blue. When you're playing storm, you're most constrained by the amount of colored mana you can produce, and its easier to make red mana than it is to make blue mana via rituals, especially because this list isn't running things like High Tide / Turnabout (staples for blue based storm). I'm actually stunned High Tide isn't mentioned anywhere in this deck tech, it's a very affordable card and Turnabout is half the price of Thousand-Year Storm. Odd. Spending all of your blue mana on cantrips also means you're leaving your Commander (a dangerous high priority target) unprotected and vulnerable. With that in mind, I would recommend playing all of the red cantrips instead of the blue ones (as is Birgi is largely wasted in this deck as a mana engine and Mitch's list is running exactly two red cantrips). The lack of Aria of Flame in this deck also feels criminal, it's cheaper than something like Thousand-Year Storm and ends the game faster while also being less of a headache to resolve. If you go with Red as your base storm color you also get acces to Runaway Steamkin as a secondary copy of Birgi for mana production, and overall will have an easier time using your precious blue mana sources for their actual job (protecting your glass cannon).
I would like to point out that metalcraft requires the creature’s controller to control 3 artifacts before the ability triggers. Also I think that As Fortold would be a good include as you can cast your first spell for free. Edit: overall this looks like a lot of fun for a non deterministic storm deck
Kind of unrelated to this specific deck, but do you have any video on how to build a budget mana base for some color combinations? Like 2-color, 3-color, 4-color and 5-colr budget mana bases templates, which dual lands are good, which fetch lands, how many, that sort of thing? I am curious as to how you approach this when building budget decks :)
Is there some way to contact you with a awesome deck-idea? 3 years in the making and finally done . Original and very playable and I think right up your alley. And not too expensive You can use it in one of your videos
Actually had to take out Archmage Emeritus out of my deck because it's not a may ability, so his trigger basically limits my ability to storm out and kill people cause I'll deck myself first
I thought copies don’t count for Storm. I literally ventured through a ton of ruling sites for Storm and copies and majority of them said it doesn’t count.
Ehh, the fact that its trigger targets one opponent makes it pretty weak compared to the ones that hit all opponents. The -2 is pretty deece, though, even if you can only use it twice.
@@Crunchatize_Me_Senpai I mean you’re not wrong, it’s not the best but it would be doubled up using the commanders ability. That also adds a little political value in the deck when you are storming off and copying a ton of spells that then with him out. Plus if you are storming off with him out, you could realistically hit everybody with that ability and still be in good shape.
@@smokin8194 Storming off should win you the game, so I don’t think you really want politics in that situation when the alternative is just burning everyone out. What about the ral zarek from war of the spark who pings opponnents whenever you cast or copy sn instant o sorcery, while also being able to copy spells
I feel its a shame you didn't mention Harmonic Prodigy. Its basically another Veyran for all of your wizard and shaman triggered abilities, which coincidentally is the main type of magecraft and similar abilities.
What? This list was and still is perfectly budget? Some of the cards went up because people want to play veyran. Cards for Osgir will also go up a lot in the future because he is the most popular Strixhaven Commander.
As fun as this commander is. You can throw in krark and sakashima into the 99 and sub them in as commanders to up the power level. Since veyran works in the 98 of that deck as well.
It is, absolutely. Especially with the number of Magecraft cards in an average Veyran deck. It honestly gets to be a nightmare to keep track of everything if you have several of those out with TYS.
He might have to make an update to this deck now that harmonic prodigy is a thing along with any other cards from MH2. Nothing like getting 4 triggers off of your spells when you have veyran and harmonic prodigy out at the same time

If I had a gumball for every time mitch said scry's just card selection I could afford wayfarer's bauble lol
Literally built my Veyran deck earlier and the stuff is coming tomorrow
I’m building a veyran deck, but also, Kaza, Roil Chaser wizard tribal deck with veyran as a secret Second commander. Can’t wait to see both go off
I know they’re probably not budget, but you should think about eye of the storm and thousand year storm. Hints get very silly with those and rituals
Already made veyran 2 weeks ago its awesome, I plan on buying a thousand year storm for the veyran is my first spell slinger/storm deck
Ral, Storm Conduit. Everyone always forgets poor Ral. Sad day.
Ral + any 2 copy spells = gg
@@luizgustavoferreiracandido1297 even easier, Ral's -2 can copy the copy spell so only 1 copy spell is needed.
I could also see the prismari dragon being used in here for the extra mana from artifacts.
Synergies very well with the storm kiln card (makes treasures when you cast instant/sorcerers)
@@michael-anthonypetruccelli5501 that's the plan, I used that on mtga several times.
Putting together a Veyran deck myself. It focuses on going wide with Talrand, Young Pyromancer and simular cards. Basically janky locust god, and very fun :)
Thanks, Mitch. Have the precon and I am upgrading. Great suggestions.
I added lab maniac and seagate restoration. if swarm intelligence is on the field with Veyran, it will win you the game most of the time
I've never played commander before but i do plan on building one especially if the conditions in our locality gets better. Whe that happens, this will be the first deck i'll build 😁
nice!!! good luck and hope you have fun with it!
I suggest including 'Break Through the Line' if you're not already running it.
Upgraded version shows Beledros :P Great video otherwise, I have all the cards in my Khalamax sideboard so that's great :D
Thank you for catching that! Should be fixed now!

The idea is to beat my opponents down with massive amounts of creature tokens or mill them to death.
Helm Of The Host is in the deck because I am a filthy degenerate that likes to make copies of my Commander for extra triggers.
I intentionally left out Omniscience because that would make the deck insanely overpowered, though it would be fun. (The truth is that I only have 2 of them and they are both in other storm deck variants.)
Tibalt's Trickery and Mind's Desire are both phenomenal cards in this deck.
I built slightly differently. A couple Izzet Weirds untap on cast of Instants and Sorceries. Add Paradise Mantle, and your mana grows even faster
The link to the upgraded version leads you to the witherbloom deck 😁
Finally a Commander that justify playing gelectrode, i've missed you little buddy
Is there some way to contact you with a awesome deck-idea?
3 years in the making and finally done .
Original and very playable and I think right up your alley.
And not too expensive
You can use it in one of your videos
I just switched the Kaza commander with this one and added a few of the precon cards to juice it up.
Nice video , I like veyren a lot , just to note your upgraded deck link is for beledros witherbloom not veyren
You definitely gave me ideas. Thank you!
What about the wonderful shark typhoon?
Wow no shoutout to Ral from war of the spark? That is perfect in this deck! I’m offended good sir lol
But you’re right, he’s still worth considering for the deck. Having him out while you don’t have the all-opponents ones is better than nothing. And like I said, the ability to copy a spell or two is pretty good.
I have the prismari commander deck with veryn in it.... it can get very complicated keeping up with all the triggers and your turn can take a long time to finish. Also people will go out of their way to kill Veryn so have some kind of protection for her
What about the ral zarek from war of the spark who pings opponnents whenever you cast or copy sn instant o sorcery, while also being able to copy spells
its not even in the upgraded list, maybe he just didnt see it or even realize it was a thing
I feel its a shame you didn't mention Harmonic Prodigy. Its basically another Veyran for all of your wizard and shaman triggered abilities, which coincidentally is the main type of magecraft and similar abilities.
How about an all white boarder deck. I was considering making one for the hell of it.
I would love to put some wheels in this deck like Windfall or Valakut Awakening.
Hopefully he can do an update on this or with the new spell slinging commander in Innastrad with the new cards that set brings
I'm working on a storm rootha but I think I'll tear it down to build this...
I think shark typhoon would be a great card in this deck
So this channel has completely foregone the whole budget thing at this point?
This plus Talrand, Sky summoner will be great for making more flying creatures on the board
So I know it's an expensive enchantment but Thousand Year Storm sounds nuts in this deck.
It is, absolutely. Especially with the number of Magecraft cards in an average Veyran deck. It honestly gets to be a nightmare to keep track of everything if you have several of those out with TYS.
I'm surprised by no thousand year storm in the decklist
It just spiked to almost $25, I can see why he didn't include it as his builds generally can't afford that price tag
If you can give her trample and do instant/sorcery based voltron to boost her stupidly fast for giant swings
Are you going to make a MH2 reprint prediction video? I've got a good feeling about wayfarers bauble :)
Nah. That will be in CMR2.
He might have to make an update to this deck now that harmonic prodigy is a thing along with any other cards from MH2. Nothing like getting 4 triggers off of your spells when you have veyran and harmonic prodigy out at the same time
I'm building a Kykar token deck and this guy could probably fit right in.
The correct answer is to play cards that let you take extra turns and copy those. Fair warning: no one plays with me anymore.
I'm surprised you didn't include Crackle With Power in the list since it can just pick off all of your opponents
About how much would this deck cost. I miss how the average price was on thumbnails in older videos
I think with krark if the first flip returns the spell, the second lip can't copy it right?
As a musician, I'm so happy Wizards made this card. I love this card and already built the deck
