For me just the fact these two video game mascots managed to have movies fans overall enjoyed is the best. That's something I don't think we could've gotten back then, especially poor Mario

For the sonic movies, while the movies were not connected with the games except for the second movie which we got the introduction of knuckles and tails, the writing of both movies were great and I love that we had raw and touching moments where sonic and tails were bonding together at the bar, the fight between sonic and knuckles, sonic saving knuckles then bonding afterwards, the sonic heroes moment, the death egg, and last but not least Sonic turning Super at the end of the movie 2. For me, I would say Sonic Movie 2 takes the win.
We the fans wo because we got what we always wanted and deserved. That said, I can admit a few things: Mario did the adaptation of the world better and seriously made me wish the Sonic movies were animated. But the Sonic movies had to me much more fun and better paced stories. It's 50/50 the way i look at it.

I can appreciate even the first Sonic movie more now despite its lack of game references and such. I also like what it did with rings, not having them operate exactly like in the games.
i think the wedding scene in sonic 2 was fine, but was a bit too long Also, we need more Sonic rearrangements in Sonic 3, the music in Mario movie made me smile so hard to just hear so many references.

All three movies are great adaptations in my opinion but if I had to rank them the places would be 3rd - Sonic movie 1 : is a fun road trip movie with Sonic in it. I wished there were some more things from the games, but I still really love this movie 2nd- Mario Movie : A movie is full of references to all of the Mario franchise and shows me why I love these characters in the first place. I feel like this movie does have a lot of pacing issues, which causes some problems, but I think that could be fixed in the second movie 1st- Sonic Movie 2 : I absolutely love this movie It raises the stakes of the first movie and brings in a lot more game stuff. The Mario franchise is now on theme park attractions as small-scale competition to Disneyland and Disney world, which had a half a century head start. Sonic is still pumping out video games, which Mario subsided from since the pandemic began with only 3d world + Bowser's Fury being its latest

I would say: #1 is Sonic 2 #2 is Sonic 1 #3 is Mario All movies are fun to watch simply because they look great, and they all have characters from the games that are accurate to how they are in the games. But I think Mario suffers a lot from that paper-thin story and pacing; with no time to focus on anything, most of the characters just come off as one-note in the context of the movie and it ruins the stakes of different set piece or makes me wish I was playing another game instead (rather than get me excited to play the games). I could give more specific examples if asked, but I generally wish there was more to the movie than what the trailers showed off, because we didn't get a whole lot. Both Sonic movies still retain these elements in the transition from video game to movie, in a way that empowers the movies as their own separate thing. Any elements or questions coming from the games are introduced or answered in a way that fits the new media and the tone of the movies. There's heart, emotion, and thematic questions to be explored in both movies, and that really does add weight to the set pieces. And I do appreciate how Sonic 1 kept itself on a smaller scale so the future could be set up for more greatness: Sonic 1 ran so Sonic 2 could really go fast.
I would still say that both Sonic movies over the Mario Movie. The Mario movie did want people liked from the games but it came at the price at a nearly nonexistent story and flat characters. I believe the Sonic movie did better at having it comes to an actual story with it’s characters that allows them time to breath. Sonic movies did better at adapting it’s characters into the medium they are in and much takes advantage of where the characters are in by much fleshing out their stories that the games couldn’t do.

2nd- Mario Movie : A movie is full of references to all of the Mario franchise and shows me why I love these characters in the first place. I feel like this movie does have a lot of pacing issues, which causes some problems, but I think that could be fixed in the second movie
1st- Sonic Movie 2 : I absolutely love this movie It raises the stakes of the first movie and brings in a lot more game stuff. I loved seeing tails and knuckles on the big screen and the sonic vs knuckles scenes were some of the highlights of the movie. There are some problems with the pacing with some scenes going too long but I still think that just like the Mario movie it is a awesome movie that is a love letter to the fans

They have 2 times more money than NBCUNIVERSAL and the Paramount Pictures division is the Undisputed King of Motion Pictures that crush all rival companies in that department. The three sonic films individually are billion dollars internationally grossed when completed. Mario likely is not getting sequels. The Mario franchise is now on theme park attractions as small-scale competition to Disneyland and Disney world, which had a half a century head start.
Sonic is still pumping out video games, which Mario subsided from since the pandemic began with only 3d world + Bowser's Fury being its latest

I’m Sonic the Hedgehog’s number one fan so it’s easy to be biased I admit, lol, yet it’s not just that either.
Sonic Movie 2 truly does a lot more epic things and character developing and I felt like the first Sonic Movie did some character developing too.
I’m a huge Mario fan and I do wish that things weren’t so rushed.
But even if they weren’t admittedly I still would have chosen the Sonic Movies especially Sonic Movie 2!

mario movie looks AMAZING, super accurate to the games (appearance and music-wise), but story is lacking

All movies are fun to watch simply because they look great, and they all have characters from the games that are accurate to how they are in the games. But I think Mario suffers a lot from that paper-thin story and pacing; with no time to focus on anything, most of the characters just come off as one-note in the context of the movie and it ruins the stakes of different set piece or makes me wish I was playing another game instead (rather than get me excited to play the games). I could give more specific examples if asked, but I generally wish there was more to the movie than what the trailers showed off, because we didn't get a whole lot.
Both Sonic movies still retain these elements in the transition from video game to movie, in a way that empowers the movies as their own separate thing. Any elements or questions coming from the games are introduced or answered in a way that fits the new media and the tone of the movies. There's heart, emotion, and thematic questions to be explored in both movies, and that really does add weight to the set pieces. And I do appreciate how Sonic 1 kept itself on a smaller scale so the future could be set up for more greatness: Sonic 1 ran so Sonic 2 could really go fast.

I would still say that both Sonic movies over the Mario Movie. The Mario movie did want people liked from the games but it came at the price at a nearly nonexistent story and flat characters. I believe the Sonic movie did better at having it comes to an actual story with it’s characters that allows them time to breath. Sonic movies did better at adapting it’s characters into the medium they are in and much takes advantage of where the characters are in by much fleshing out their stories that the games couldn’t do.

Sonic movie 1 was better that Mario Movie. As Sonic felt just like Sonic. Mario felt a bit like a spin off personality wise.
I feel Eggman was better than Bowser just by a bit.
Mario movie was better as it didn't have humans. But didn't maximise its IP like Sonic movies did like rings, speed, Tails and Knuckles. Sonic's movies took more risks and didn't try too cram too much in.

honestly as time goes by I just can't help but feel disappointed by the mario movie. I agree with every ranking here but even still the mario movie just felt like fanservice and no substance. mario was such a weak little bitch in this movie who needed powerups to do literally anything. sure him getting invincibility was cool but like when has he ever needed that to kill bowser?
