Minions: Rise of Gru isn't what we expected...

- Today we're finally reacting to Minions: The Rise of Gru! Illumination decided they wanted to print more money so they made another movie, but unlike previous entries the internet seemed to love this one. With trends like GentleMinions and Yeat's "Rich Minion" track, were the memes enough to make this movie a success? Who are the Vicious Six? Did it really get a minillion percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes? And why is Otto so THICC? idk but I'm tired, watch the review lol.

Minions - The Rise of Gru - 2022
In the 1970s, young Gru tries to join a group of supervillains called the Vicious 6 after they oust their leader -- the legendary fighter Wild Knuckles. When the interview turns disastrous, Gru and his Minions go on the run with the Vicious 6 hot on their tails. Luckily, he finds an unlikely source for guidance -- Wild Knuckles himself -- and soon discovers that even bad guys need a little help from their friends. With Steve Carell, Pierre Coffin, Taraji P. Henson, Russell Brand, and Jean-Claude Van Damme.

I’ll be that guy: The plane the minions fly cannot be a 737 or A320 because both of those models have two engines. The animators are likely referencing the 707 given the time period, 4 engines, and the black spot on the nose. The 707 and other planes of that time had a 3rd crew member in the cockpit behind the pilots called the Flight Engineer. Their controls faced the walls beside and behind the pilots.
I found you. I FINALLY FOUND YOU
why
@@iconchilly6955 stop asking why and start asking where the minions were between 1939 and 1945
I was looking for you
Well actually the plane looked more like a dc-8 due to the bose being less pointy but its probably a wild mix of the two because the animators didn't and don't have to care.
Plus in old planes until the mid of the jet-era there was actually a navigator who sat behind the pilots and used buttons in the back of the cockpit. But in this case it was probably rather because of unaware animators rather than an accurate depiction of early quad-jet cockpits

@Microwave Society
@@dakernel you are correct also the plane would be a 747 you could tell because of the build of the plane which further proves your information considering they would have f/e on the 747 and also the only way that plane could move as it does is if it was the evergreen 747 which it is not. The airline looks similar to ryanir despite them not having a 747. I will try and tell you whwt airline it could be. Anyways you are correct. I am an aviation fan. ❤

It is possible as well because they have 747s in the 70s
17:27: They do actually notice when Gru steals the moon. That's why they enlisted him to help take down the person making the Purple Serum. I guess... maybe because he didn't keep the moon, they didn't pursue him immediately?
I imagine that they probably did notice the rocket ship and subsequent shrinking of the moon and probably sent an agent to intercept.
However, since the moon grew back so fast AND Gru and Vector were having an altercation during this, they probably were watching from afar, standing by to see how things turned out. Watch two villains take watch other out before the moon issue solves itself with that shrink ray theorem.

Fun fact: since all of the characters introduced in this movie aren't in any of the despicable me movies, we can only assume that Otto, baby chicken minion, and wild knuckles died during the space between. R.I.P.

This movie was much better than I thought it would be but the thing that bothers me about this movie is that it feels like some parts were cut out of this movie because at times it feels like it moves really fast. I smiled at the Vector cameo but one thing that bothers me is that Vector is supposed to be a lot younger than Gru but if he was already born in this movie that takes place in the 70s that means they are about the same age.
Vector could have invented a device that slows or stops his aging at some point.
@@TekuTaurus Also it's the Bank of Evil. Mr. Perkins could have just cooked up a fake story about Vector being younger just so he can kick Gru out. We know he was colluding with Vector to ruin Gru's plan after all.

Yeah that's China telling kids you don't get away crime in China, even if your existence is in an American cartoon.

It’s a Boeing 747 :) no paragraph neeeded
The Boeing 747 is a large, long-range wide-body airliner designed and manufactured by Boeing Commercial Airplanes in the United States between 1968 and 2022. After introducing the 707 in October 1958, Pan Am wanted a jet 2+1⁄2 times its size, to reduce its seat cost by 30% to democratize air travel. In 1965, Joe Sutter left the 737 development program to design the 747, the first twin-aisle airliner. In April 1966, Pan Am ordered 25 Boeing 747-100 aircraft and in late 1966, Pratt & Whitney agreed to develop its JT9D engine, a high-bypass turbofan. On September 30, 1968, the first 747 was rolled out of the custom-built Everett Plant, the world's largest building by volume. The first flight took place on February 9, 1969, and the 747 was certified in December of that year. It entered service with Pan Am on January 22, 1970. The 747 was the first airplane dubbed "Jumbo Jet", the first wide-body airliner.

Stop, actually, keep going
Theory: Otto is a clone of the minions, and Gru was making clones of the original batch of minions who began to work for him to create many of them. This would mean there are two “types” of minions, but they are nearly indistinguishable from each other. The first type is the original “functionally immortal” minions who have been alive since the dinosaur age, and the second type are Gru-generated clones that look basically identical to the first type except for small features (Otto, aside from being pretty big and having braces is otherwise indistinguishable from other minions).
Btw, I also theorize that the “functionally immortal” minions can live indefinitely, but can also be killed by unnatural means (lasers, sawblades, stuff like that) so Gru needs to replace them a lot so he doesn’t run out.
This is why we don’t see Otto in any other movie: as a clone, he doesn’t have the same lifespan as an original minion and probably died by the time Gru was in his late 20s to early 30s. This is also why Gru has so many minions in the very first film: he’s been increasing their population, probably so that if any die by unnatural causes he can replace them easily.
Ok, but hear me out, more responded to the help wanted ad
The idea that the minions are being cloned could also possibly explain the minion blueprint found in the girls' room in the original Despicable Me.

13:30 Bet.
In the modern electronic cockpit, the electronic flight instruments usually regarded as essential are MFD, PFD, ND, EICAS, FMS/CDU and back-up instruments.
MCP
A Mode control panel, usually a long narrow panel located centrally in front of the pilot, may be used to control heading, speed, altitude, vertical speed, vertical navigation and lateral navigation. It may also be used to engage or disengage both the autopilot and the autothrottle. The panel as an area is usually referred to as the "glareshield panel". MCP is a Boeing designation (that has been informally adopted as a generic name for the unit/panel) for a unit that allows for the selection and parameter setting of the different autoflight functions, the same unit on an Airbus aircraft is referred to as the FCU (Flight Control unit).
PFD
The primary flight display is usually located in a prominent position, either centrally or on either side of the cockpit. It will in most cases include a digitized presentation of the attitude indicator, air speed and altitude indicators (usually as a tape display) and the vertical speed indicator. It will in many cases include some form of heading indicator and ILS/VOR deviation indicators. In many cases an indicator of the engaged and armed autoflight system modes will be present along with some form of indication of the selected values for altitude, speed, vertical speed and heading. It may be pilot selectable to swap with the ND.
ND
A navigation display, which may be adjacent to the PFD, shows the route and information on the next waypoint, wind speed and wind direction. It may be pilot selectable to swap with the PFD.
EICAS/ECAM
The Engine Indication and Crew Alerting System (EICAS), used by Boeing and Embraer, or the Electronic Centralized Aircraft Monitor (ECAM), used by Airbus, allow the pilot to monitor the following information: values for N1, N2 and N3, fuel temperature, fuel flow, the electrical system, cockpit or cabin temperature and pressure, control surfaces and so on. The pilot may select display of information by means of button press.
FMS/MCDU
The flight management system/control and/or display unit may be used by the pilot to enter and check for the following information: flight plan, speed control, navigation control, etc.
Back-up instruments
In a less prominent part of the cockpit, in case of failure of the other instruments, there will be a battery-powered integrated standby instrument system along with a magnetic compass, showing essential flight information such as speed, altitude, attitude and heading.
Now you know.
Edit: The AN-225 has controls behind the pilots

Okay so most commercial and and private jets actually have controls around the majority of the cabin, with a console of controls between the pilot and copilot, with a third seat in the cabin behind them intended for ride alongs. The controls may also be found above the pilot and copilot, and on some of the more extravagant private jets I've toured may even have a fold down glass screen that superimposes relevant information, as well as infrared for night time take off and landing. So in short it's not that farfetched to see a commercial aircraft with controls behind the pilot and copilot in a universe that has already established an exaggerated need for extravagance and excess.

13:31 *Puts on aviator glasses*, "Showtime!" Hmmmm...the number of switches back there seems reasonable especially prior to computer systems, an engineer and navigator at their respective stations would have to do all that stuff. However, the switches on the back bulkhead are definitely unrealistic, there would be too much framing to work around, and it would be less ergonomic for working. Seeing as this is set in 1976, I do genuinely wonder what type of plane this could be, despite the cartoon-ified style. (tangent where I waste time talking about cockpit stuff when I should have checked engine amount first) Certainly not a 737 as the cockpit isn't a glass instrument type (computer screens) and the lack of middle canopy frame elements a lot of types (I spent too long comparing the shots of the cockpit with shots of contemporary airliners), it cannot be an Airbus type as Airbus had only just entered the market at the time with only a twin engine aircraft available and likely had not broken into the US market. Of course, Minions: Rise of Minionbius is not a very serious movie and so 'artistic license' can be invoked, one idea could be that the aircraft is the never made McDonald Douglas MD-12, a wide body four engine airliner? After all, the Minions cinematic universe timeline may differ wildly from ours. The only other four engine airliners operating at the time would be the Boeing 707 (Which had way skinnier engines and a skinny fuselage) or...a Boeing 747. A 747 is a widebody aircraft, introduced in 1970, with hefty engines the same as the plane in Minions and proportions to match the craft in the aforementioned scene, however the famous 'hump' is missing. So, out of all the options, I believe the plane in this scene is modelled off of a 747 and simply missing the 'hump' (second deck) to avoid licensing issues. Thank you for reading my comment folks, have a day.

12:09 WHY TF IS COLONEL NOODLE IN THIS MOVIE?
Fun fact: Its not a real plane. But there are controls behind airplanes in some bigger planes and older planes. But most new planes just have the circuit board behind the pilots.
When Gru steals the thing at 8:00 or so, it really reminded me of the Lorax for some weird animation reason. That'd be a great movie for this channel y'all
Like specifically when she turns around and never again

I’m now picturing in my mind a minion being cannibalized by those purple minions
8:08 actually no, they're not AS aerodynamic as a Lobster, they're LESS aerodynamic a Lobster
13:20 My experience with planes is that all the controls are in your head. You demand a mojito and the plane just brings you one in the form of a friendly lady. So, controls can be anywhere even our dilusion.
dude
I-okay?
One thing first though... Google says that Alan Arkin plays Wild Knuckles and not Jean. Jean seems to be the lobster guy.
I honestly enjoyed this movie. Found myself laughing a good amount lol. I just waited to watch this video until I had seen the movie and I just watched it for the first time two days ago
Yeah, definitely Alan Arkin!
Lobster bro was literally named "Jean-Clawed"
17:46 I am literally watching this at 8:20 pm on a Friday.
8:02p.m.monday
13:23 That was a thing back in the older days of aviation when planes needed "Flight Engineers"
They'd have some controls/instruments behind the copilot where someone would read off some of the data unlike the planes we have now where the computers in them take care of it themselves.
13:31 Oh sON OF A
Yeah. The aircraft the Minions was flying was also a Boeing 707.
