I live in heat zone, well what was 8b is now 9, I'm one of those who has been hand watering forever and you can imagine what a task keeping up in the heat of summer. I've really just been wanting something more efficient but can't really afford an irrigation system. I just started exploring the use of soaker hoses and this was really informative, especially the info about emitter hoses that I knew nothing about. Thanks!
You’re very welcome! It’s definitely so much easier
Haha! A kindred spirit. My wife and I were watering by hand morning and evening diligently, but I was in med school, she was full time at the local community college, and we were venders at two local farmers markets besides. We knew there had to be a better way. Thank you for sharing!
Glad to help!! It’s definitely worth it.
Yes! I totally agree with you! We have a busy life with four kids so I understand!
THANK YOU!! Exactly what I was looking for. Didn’t know grip and drip existed.
Glad I could help!
Thank you for being so thorough. Your info and examples are very helpful.
Love this video. This is my first year having a soaker hose and it was life changing. Even for my 10x16 ft bed. I’m expanding that next year and I don’t have time to water that much space. I also have 3 kids and work outside of the home. So whew. Thanks for sharing this video. ❤
Glad it was helpful!
I love this video very helpful. Thank you
Thanks for the video; you can cut thin wire coat hangers to secure your hoses. One hanger will make 3 (or 4 if you use the hook.) Thanks also for teaching us how to repair the collapsible hose.
That's a great idea!
@@fromdreamtoseed Thanks...
I agree with you but it's been years. What you are saying is 100 percent
I plant close together too and prefer soaker hoses. But don't know how to connect them. Thank you for the video. I did order the connectors and quick release as well. Love your garden!
Glad it helped!
Thanks for such an informative video! It’s the best I’ve seen, even from career gardeners and DIYers. All the info I need to make a new plan that’s better for my plants, easier for me, and will save more water. PERFECTION!
Thanks so much!!! Glad it helped 😁
Hi, great video, what brand is the collapsible hose, thanks
There should be links in the description box. Let me know if they don’t work
our home was built with no water source at front of home all that hose had to come from back of home. Installing rain barrels at front with soaker hoses now saving time and energy is my hope
Mine has no water access on the back. Such a pain!
Thank you very much! Easy to understand and to follow!
You are welcome!
You are not alone in "having" to water.
Super informations and instructions .thanks so much .
Glad it was helpful!
Great set up.
This video was extremely helpful. I shared the same exact sentiments as u in the beginning of your video, most of all what to do when we go on vacation. The soaker hose saved me. I learned alot of tips in your video, including the snip and drip connector. I wish I had known such a thing existed before I setup my soaker hoses to my beds. Do u have a video going into more detail how to cut soaker hoses or extend them? Also should soker hoses be buried or layed on top?
Glad it helped! I lay my soakers under my mulch. I guess they do get buried a bit when I hill my potatoes. I don’t think I have videos on repairs, but I just use those connections I showed. I just cut out the damaged area and reattach it with a connector. So basically, the connector takes the place of the damaged area. To extend, I just take off the end cap, add a connector, hose, and then replace the end cap. I am, however, currently switching up most of watering system in my raised bed garden to watering grids. They are all weather and can stay out during winter. I still use soakers on some beds. More on that in a future video.
Thank you so much. Cant wait to see your next video on watering grids.
for end caps on soak-er hose just fold the hose back on itself and use a tie wrap/twine ... to pinch it closed like a permanent kink.
Thanks for watching! I have done this is the past…I like using end caps in case I need to add to the lines later. It prevents a weak spot in the hose. But pinching the line definitely works well!
I use a short length of hose off the spigot to let my timer rest on the ground and i cover it to keep the sun off hopefuly that will extend its life
Ooh that’s a great idea!
Rain would be nice here in Central Florida.
Fantastic advise ESPECIALLY for a beginner! Is emitter better than soaker for a raised vegetable garden?
Thanks! Both have pros and cons. I plant pretty close together so I prefer soakers for my raised beds
This is the most helpful video I have seen to learn about soakers and using a splitter - thank you! I have been hand watering almost daily (unsuccessfully on work commute days) for a few years and it’s time to find an easier way. I have a garden bed on one side of the spigot and landscaping on the other side, so your complete system looks like it could work for my setup as well. I had been looking at the snip-n-drip system and I’m glad to hear it works well. I appreciate you taking the time to make this video :)
Do you happen to have a new link for the hose? It looks like the one you posted is not longer available.
Thanks so much! Yes, a watering system is a game changer for busy gardeners
GREAT, informative video.
Thanks!
I'm building a veg box business at a local secondary school. I will have an irrigation system in a 54ft polytunnel and now I have seen your video I will have a soaker hose system in the raised bed. But I am off grid and our water will come from tanks with a pump, will this be a good system with the soaker hoses? Off to check out the rest of your videos. This one was brilliant, you are very engaging. Thank you.
Yeah that should work! You’ll just have to play around with the water pressure. It’s easy to burst soakers, but easy to repair. That’s so great what you’re doing!
Hi my name Is Jackie and I am a new subscriber I live In northeast Oklahoma I really like your setup you have to water your garden I water my garden partly with a water hose and the other part I use adjustable steak drippers connected to half-inch tubing ran through my garden I have been trying to run half-inch tubing throughout my whole garden I have found out by doing that it interferes with the water pressure
Welcome! Yes, even pressure is always an issue. I’m still making adjustments every year, but the basic setup is the same. The longer the hose the most change in pressure.
Excellent video!!! You did GREAT!!!! Thank you!
Thank you!
This is so helpful. I have 14 raised beds in my back yard and I have been hand watering or depending on rain, which isn’t enough, now that I watched your watering video. I’m going to try to set up a hose watering system for the four beds furthest away from my faucet and see how that goes. Question: do you put a filter on your hose to reduce chemicals? Thanks for another great video!
Yes, the hose attachments have a filter
What I never understand about drip irrigation is, unless you’re watering in the early morning only, at least where I am in Texas (which is already getting hot out there), the water coming out of the hose is scalding after it sits in the sun for any length of time. How does this work to keep your plants from getting scalding water? Anyone with a solution, thanks for your input.❤
@@freewaybaby I run my soakers on a timer. They water very early morning.
Excellent video! Very well done. Thanks so much.😘
Thank you!
Great information
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks for your help ❤
This is a great video!!! Thank you! 🙌
Thank you!
hubba hubba!
In a funny kind of way!
Love your videos
The link for the blue water hose says unable to find. Would you have another link?
Oh bummer. Not one I’ve tried out, but there are probably plenty of expandable hoses on Amazon. I just hate to recommend one I haven’t tried if it’s bad lol. I’ll remove that link. Thanks for letting me know!
What do I need to repair a soaker hose like you did? What couplers do you use?
Just sharp scissors and couplers. I got mine from Gardener’s Supply. You can get them on their site or on Amazon
Very nice tutorial and very thorough! Thank you! I'll check the links out. PS- You look like Heidi from Crypto Tips :)
Thanks! Lol I must have that face. People are always telling me I look like someone. Lately it’s Kate Middleton
@@fromdreamtoseed Yes I see that too! :)
Thank you
I have 4 raised beds, was looking at soaker hoses for vacation and just make watering easier. Problem is, I don't know the best way to use these things. I live in Florida so I don't want to drill into my metal raised due to rust. They're 4 x 6 ft. About 2ft apart.. where did you get your small hoses and link couplers etc? What length do you use and what do you mean you move the hose?
You won’t need to drill into them. The soaker hoses lay on top. I have hose connections and the beginning of each watering “zone” and then two raised beds connected in each zone. So I’m moving the hose to the soaker hose connection in each zone every day. Length depends on the size of the bed. Soaker hoses are usually sold on rolls and you cut to length. They make connectors and end caps that you can use to attach pieces or stop. Links to everything I mentioned are in the description box. If you click “more” by the caption under the video title and scroll down you should see them. Let me know if you have any more questions or can’t find the links! 💚
Thank you madam which your country
I water all my garden beds, one veggy others plants, evergreens, new ones, etc. I spend over 1 hr. every day at 5:30am and I work full time and have to shower, eat breakfast,, feed two cats and clean litter 2x before I leave, make my lunch, dress for work, make a tea roadie, and drive to work and get there on time. I'm exhausted!!! Help my irrigation person said do not put my sprinkler system to shoot into evergreens, plants, etc. I have 4 sides of my house with different gardens. Are soaker hoses the way to go???
That’s why I went with an automatic watering system. That’s exhausting! You def want to avoid overhead sprinklers if you can. It wastes a lot of water, especially in the garden. If you already have an irrigation system, see how much it would be to run a line to your garden and add a spigot. Then you could run soaker hoses and a timer from that.
Watering correctly is a challenge. We just got a soaker hose

I feel like the schoolboy in the corner and a cone shaped hat on for punishment. Some of the you tube sites add a water pressure regulator to keep the water from blowing off the hoses or shooting water into the air from the porous hose. I have installed a regulator in the system, only to have the water to shoot into the air until I turn the splitter valve part way down. You and most of the other gardeners don't use the regulator and have great luck. Would you or any of your followers have an idea of what my problem might be? Have a good evening.
I have a pressure regulator on mine. It comes in a kit with the Gardener’s Supply snip and drip intakes
@@fromdreamtoseed Thanks, I appreciate that you got back to me and I'll look into Gardener's Supply for my next kit. Have a great summer.

Watering is boring lol thank you for the video
You’re so cute you help me a lot thank you
Can i combine emitters and soaker hoses together in one system?
It’s possible, but I’m not sure how the pressure would be. My soakers need a much lower pressure then my emitters. It may just depend on the system and materials
@@fromdreamtoseed awesome thanks for the reply 👍
What brand is that expanding hose?
The original one I used isn’t currently available. Here’s a similar one amzn.to/3yy0G6o
@@fromdreamtoseed thanks so much! 😊
At what optimum psi does these soakers work
I don’t have a pressure gauge on my spigot so can’t say for sure. I do use a timer so once the pressure is set I leave it there. I look for uniform water beading along the hose. It’s definitely a low pressure for soakers. Too high and they split. For higher pressure, I use my drip lines.
I don't know if you can grow anything but, you are adorable!
In my own experience the Gardeners Supply hose system is junk; specifically the soaker hoses. I would never buy again. And, I have also used the same quick connect hose connectors and I also feel they are trash, unfortunately. Gardening is a lot of trial and error I guess, but for the price of these items they should work much better. Others may have had a different experience, of course. But, my experience with these two products was extremely poor.
That’s a shame! I’ve had a great experience with them. Going on year 3 and no issue outside of normal wear and tear for soaker hoses. Every brand I’ve tried will have small leaks over time. I’ve had less with the GS ones. Easy repair though. It’s sort of the nature of soaker hoses. But the connection systems haven’t had any issues so far.
I found this very helpful! Thank you.
