Getting Parts, Military RT6000 Forklift and Tires for the Fortress Project!

  • The Military 5-Ton bed and parts along with the RT6000 Forklift are some of the very last items from Jack Tomlin's military surplus yard in Tooele Utah. I worked with him and this very machine many times and it was hard when he passed away a few years ago. He had an amazing collection of military trucks, weapons, and tons of all sorts of cool things.... Tires came from my friends work from an old grader.... Thanks Les!

Perservance is the thing to put in place when your dealing with old reliable (sometimes) machinery - in this case a front loader forklift!!! She's truly "old school" with a hefty loud motor - but she works - can't complain!!! Here!!! Here!!! Wizard you deserve a metal of recognition for putting that loader on safely and without no brakes was amazing. That's a very, very, heavy load Wizard!!! You want a "RIM" use your wand LOL!!! You got my vote - again a great job well done Wizard!!!

You and I both. When he done the Drott video. It brought back memories of my Daddy who was murdered 44 yrs ago n i just turned 14. He earned the nick name Dr. Drott. I assume cuz he was the wizard who was able to fix it on the job working on a paving crew. Les asked Alan n it was picked up from Idaho where my Daddy worked on that crew. Wish i knew if it's the same one.

What a sight to see I remember using one of those when I was a Seabee in the 1970's! They were amazing a wonderful piece of equipment. When used as a forklift , a brush clearer, or even trencer in sand. Not quiet to use but a really dependable machine!

Drove those forklifts in Camrahn Bay Vietnam back in the late 60's. The pettibones had v6-53 and the anthony's had 4-53's. Yours definitely needs some work. Operated them for nine months straight on the night shift. Worked in the ammo dumps and loaded and unloaded truck convoys and ships. Sometimes the ships unloaded by Larks the amphibius vehicles. Had to really be careful to not punch fork holes in the Larks. Many times I've wished I had one to drive around hear at home. Only thing not good is that we had to load agent orange and a lot of the barrels leaked and we got the crap all over us helping stand the barrels up in the trucks. Now all these years later I end up with prostate cancer and nerve damage. The cancer has been controlled with radiation and hormone treatments for now. The nerve damage will only get worse over time, but I'm going on until the end doing everything I can.

Hi wizard, that is a beast of a machine, being that it had no brakes and because of the size and the damage it could cause I think it may have been safer to raise the loaded bed and reverse the trailer under it, not that I’m in to heavy haulage but I’d hate to damage Dave’s trailer. 👍

If only the day could have more hours, Alan would have an awesome running vehicle park. Then the construction as a whole could proceed even faster. Maintaining the road, building storage at the top and bottom, moving and sorting stuff around, digging mines, and harness natural energy. This is awesome.

Writing this now at the 6 minute mark where you've just driven the fork over to the trailer and I noticed the left rear wheel is only moving little bits at a time, mostly it's locked up and dragging so, if it felt sluggish to move, there's one reason, or at least trying to watch it here it looked to be locking up early on. At least this one started ok.
I don't know it there's a drain at the bottom of that fuel tank but I'd be letting some out into a glass jar and seeing if there's any water at the bottom, the same with any filters with drains. Who knows how long that fuel cap's been open or what's built up at the bottom of that tank over the many years since she was made. I remember seeing a huge split around the inside of the sidewall of one tyre earlier, the right rear I think which looked pretty bad.
