    Thank you so much. Great explanation for something that has seemed mysterious to me for years!

    Thanks for the explanation it seems most videos just tell you not to mess with it, but they don’t explain how to fix it if the person that owned it prior messed it up. Mine was very similar, except there wasn’t a screw to unlock the spring. You use your screwdriver to tighten the spring in the little of the knob and then hand tighten the outer knob to keep it in that place. I have a Juki DNU-1541S. Thanks again!

    Hi. I have scoured through all of youtube for a video which explained the 2 screws at the base of the upper thread tension housing on a Singer 15k without numbers and found nothing. I had pulled it all apart to clean it because it was all black and oily but then didnt quite understand what those 2 screws did. I put it back together as I had undone them, lined them up and cleaned each piece as I replaced it but in the end I couldnt adjust it because I didnt know how. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU. Although nit the same, the principle is. Yay.

    There should be a gauge to measure spring tension strength. Just like gun makers use to test trigger pull.. or a torque wrench does, in inch pounds.
    Anybody have any specs ?

    Wow this is helpful. I was having some issure on my 1541s and didn't know if my spring needed adjustment. I still am not sure how taught it is supposed to be but this helps out.

      Same here. It came that way. Think the previous owner fiddled with it and didn’t get it right. It’s right now after this video😉

    Thanks so much for this video, it helped me out very much. I replaced a broken check spring following the video but I ended up with another problem. The little pin that comes in from the back to push against the piece on the back of the assemble piece( that you are showing at timeline about 3.00 on video) That pushes back to return tension to the top thread. For some reason mine will not fully push back so I don't have any upper tension. I can reach to the back of the machine and physically push it and make it work but will have to do this everytime I lift the foot. Can you tell me what I did wrong. My machine is a Pfaff 1245 but my assemble looks just like the one you showed. Thank Annette Hinson.

    Thank you for this video. Can you clear something up for me regarding the threading of this unit. Should the thread be taken through the tension discs and then round the little post on the right hand side prior to continuing to the check spring part. This is how I have my Brother 837 threaded but have seen other videos threaded differently. Thanks for all your videos....they have been most helpful. Raymond

      Yes, for actual sewing the thread needs to be pulled between the tension discs (I was so focused on the check spring business that I didn't even notice the incomplete threading until after I uploaded the video). Also looping the thread around the little pin that keeps the tension discs from spinning is optional - it increases the overall thread tension a little but shouldn't really hurt. Some folks use the additional loop-around-the-pin if the thread is too slippery to stay between the discs. By default I don't loop my thread around the tension disc pin, I just pull it between the tension discs and then go straight down to the check spring disc, like an "S".

      Page 7 of the instruction manual for your machine (www.brother-usa.com/VirData/Content/en-US/IPD/Consumer/InstructionManual/IM_LS2_B837_ENES_7400.PDF) shows the threading diagram - without going around the little pin.

      Thanks, I do actually have this manual but found that while some of it was helpful it was not very comprehensive when it came to servicing my particular machine. After many months of frustrationj just a couple of weeks ago I found a service manual for the 'B830 series' which goes into greater detail on how to fine tune the 837. Since getting it in April last year I have had all sorts of niggling little issues.....the safety clutch jumping into action at the slightest thing being one of them (your video on this topic was a big help) Seem to have everything working well now though. Thanks again

    Hello !
    this check spring got broken on my machine (adler 267) do you think that i can buy this part
    and solve the problem alone or may i invite the technician?

  • @Mars7393
    @Mars7393 7 років тому

    Hi, my machine doesnt seem to have the little screw you backed off before adjusting the tension on the spring.
    I am using the consew 226r

    • @UweXY
      @UweXY  7 років тому +2

      Some machines have a small set screw hiding inside a threaded hole. You may have to crane your neck to see the hole with a set screw inside. You'll need a slim flat screwdriver to turn that set screw.

    Why is the upper tension not threaded?
