Pretty good episode . I like when such “normal” people ask you to help them with their finances . Not that rich folks don’t need help. But folks running the house with 30-50k need it more than. I would have kept 70% in fixed income and 30% in equity for a goal which is 3 years down the road and reduced 10% from equity every year
I think he did a fantastic job that he didn't buy the bullet at finance (emi) and instead went for full cash down payment. Coming to the Home loan part , let's be honest you can't dream of buying a flat of 65 lakhs with a meagre salary of 50k (no offense to him) . He is still young and his father is working. So may be he should start saving atleast 50% of his salary from now on.. and the most important part is to increase his income in the next 2-3 years... I think by 32-35, he can easily go for a home loan.. he should at least save up to 10 lakhs in the next few years for the down payment on the house.

I've also promised myself that I won't purchase anything expensive on emis , instead will save up in MF's or will trade in any Nifty 100 stock.. will wait for at least 3 years than make the purchase.
