The war at sea was heating up in 1915. And there is nothing hotter than a UBoot on the hunt. And an excellent hunt! Man, that game looks amazing! If the price ever goes down, I'll for sure get a copy! I'm glad you're doing a full playthrough. Well done as usual!
This was a good one, yes. With 6 torpedoes and our wimpy deck gun, I'd take 2 ships sunk on any patrol. :) I know that Compass Games has their annual winter sale every year starting around November, so I'd think the price will drop then. I see it available at other outlets at a discount too. There is one on Amazon now, for example: amzn.to/3MWOAec Still not cheap, but cheaper than list.
@@ZillaBlitz The crew wasn't veteran at the time of the attempted ramming so I will go with escort was sleeping. Just watch out for mines and other instruments that go boom when they hit you!
Really enjoy watching play throughs like this. Glad people like you and Joe do them. Halfway through Churchill’s Second World War history and continue to see how well the designers research. Now I need to find a good book on WWI U-Boats.
Thanks very much! These are my favorite type of videos to make. I know Iron Coffins is a good book for WW2 U-Boats, not sure about a comparable book for WW1. Good question. :)
Rule 9.4.2 You may fire one weapon type before the others. You can fire torpedoes at targets, 'wound/cripple' them and then fire deck guns. If done this way, you could have taken the Delmira as a prize. Just another strategy to up your tonnage. Getting a real gun would help more, of course!
Thanks! I'm using the Cruiser Rules Mod to replace this rules section, so to attempt to take a prize even when Cruiser Rules aren't in effect, I'm using that mod. It has its own sequence of play which makes prize taking a bit riskier. Because we really needed to get a successful patrol, I took the more likely path of just straight up attacking. :)
This is the Golden Age of hunting for us, we really need to make hay in this six-month span. I'm hoping for even better runs in the upcoming months. :)
Very good patrol and gain experience on the crew. Started a bit rough but that last zone was truly perfect attack Alright I am getting too much into this 😊
It's funny how nothing can work out in some zones (missed torpedos, duds, lose the convoy, etc.), then the next one everything clicks and two ships to the bottom. It's really a remarkable game for throwing all sorts of situations at you. I'm glad you're enjoying it, it's great fun to play as well. :)
Sir, two freighters were sunk yesterday afternoon. The Princess Victoria and the Delmira. Less than a score of merchant marines were rescued from life boats, near dead from hypothetmia the poor devils. Survivors of the Delmira it seems. They reported seeing the number 9 on the sub that sank them. The Teufelsfisch, sir, VonBlitz again. She came in brazen during the day using her deck guns, rounded and hit with torpedoes. Henrys downstairs had a son on the Victoria. I'll break the news in a moment, would you care to accompany me.
@@ZillaBlitz Just FYI, there's an unwritten rule that says that, for late war patrols, you can pro-rate the victory points by dividing your tonnage by the number of months you have played and then multiplying by the total number of months in the war (48). You can also do this for early war patrols just to see how you're doing in the game. So far, with 8,200 ÷ 8 x 48 you have the equivalent of 49,200 tons, so you have reached the equivalent of only a defeat (though very close to a draw). Cruiser rules were in effect for much of that time though. Now, with unrestricted warfare, you should be able to make some progress.
Ah, thanks very much Ian, that makes sense and is very helpful. I think too, with the relatively empty oceans of 1914 we can expect to see things pick up a bit going forward now that shipping has picked up. I'm hopeful too, that we can get promoted to a newer U-Boat at some time. This 37mm deck gun isn't imposing our will on enemy merchants, and getting to search that fourth zone would be nice for hunting. Mostly though, I'm hoping to survive. I've never made it to the end in one of these. :)
For a moment looked like it might be another failure, then two freighters turn & hey presto some more tonnage at the bottom of sea. Given your fairly close to the coast line after all the firing would you not have to roll for detection? No access to the rules so asking for a friend.🙂 Very enjoyable. Many thanks
Yes, we were fortunate to stumble onto those two ships in the last zone, almost another failure. For that last attack, if after we fire all our stuff (gun, forward and aft torpedos), and there are still enemy ships left, we can opt to continue combat. At that point, we roll for an escort possibility. So in this case we sank everything quickly enough that we didn't need to do that. :)
I like to go on U-boat Net's Ships Hit by U-boats During WWI page and find the real fates of the ships I sink in the game. In reality, U-37 attempted unsuccessfully to scuttle the British steamer "Delmira" and she drifted ashore and was eventually salvaged. There's a photo of the British steamer "Princess Victoria" at the site (nice looking ship) and she was sunk by U-20 16 miles NW of the Liverpool Bar light vessel.
Yes, we drew the short straw with this beginner U-Boat. Extra patrol range and a better deck gun would be really helpful. When I was learning/testing the game, I drew the other starting U-Boat option and things were going better. But yes, I think there is a possible shift in U-Boats after roughly a year, I think? I'll double check. I would like to upgrade as soon as possible, for sure.
We have heard rumors that the enemy is developing a sort of underwater bomb, a "deep charge" or something. If true, we can expect a lot more damage in the future. Yes, please tell your boss that you need WW1 level underwater engineering training ASAP. Tell him to send the bill to Compass Games.

That escort didn't prepare fast enough for ramming speed. Congrats Captain Von Blitz. You have done your duty to the Kaisar.
Maybe the escort was slow... or maybe our Veteran crew was really fast. :) Can't wait to get back out to sea while the hunting is good. :)

Nice patrol! LOL - those sevens again at the start. I lived in Las Vegas for many years and couldn't stop thinking about a nice pass line run. ;)
We certainly had a lot last time. I mean, it's the most common roll, right? But not that common, for sure. :)
That was an uber successful run....those unescorted ships are so much easier to deal with.

well put together, thanks for the fun exposure to this game!
Thanks very much, I'm glad you're enjoying it. :)
Skl to U9: "You made us forget your last failure mission. Well done."
😉
(Skl = "Seekriegsleitung" = German Naval High Command in WWI)
Thank you, sir! It's all our crew, sir, they are outstanding. :)
Thanks for doing this one. I need to add it to the sub collection. Cheers.
My pleasure, thanks for stopping in. :)
A nice successful patrol with over 4,000 tons sent to the bottom.
Yes, was looking a bit dicey there but we got it done in the last sector. :)
What a fun way to start my morning! Except that now I want to stay home and play games instead of going to work.
Ha! Thanks for the kind words, glad you enjoyed it. And I hope you can fit a game into your day at some point. :)

Nicely written, sir. Makes me glad we are playing a game and not really doing this. :)
Great patrol!
Thanks! It was a bit dicey after our failure in the second zone, but getting and hitting those 2 ships was huge. :)
@@ZillaBlitz Very exciting the way you narrate it!

Fun! Any chance of putting in for a U-XXl class sub?😊
Ha! There are quite a few smaller U-Boats, but yeah, a U-XXI would be a nice upgrade for sure!
@ZillaBlitz If you fail, do they break you down and put you in the Confederate Hunley? 😆
Ha!

Oh, that's an interesting idea, yes. I bet each one of these has a unique story, must make for some good research.
Ha! Britain is expected to surrender any moment now! :D Hm, any chance to get a better U-Boat? This seems a bit limited :) Great report, Kapitän!

Glad to hear it, it's looking pretty good for next Monday too. :)
Do you need me to go off for some training? I'd be more than happy to tell my boss I need some time off to study WWI Uboat engineering
