I just saw Nemophila on Sunday night in Dallas, Tx. and they were incredible, they sounded really great and put on a fun show. Good ones to start with are Revive, Adabana, Dissension, and Life. BUT IF I MAY, please react to the songs Rollin Rollin, Change The World, and Game Over. Nemophila's origin story is that the singer, Mayu, was in a band called Lipstick. She wanted to perform a solo show, so she contacted her friend and former classmate and kickass bass guitarist Haraguchi-san. They recruited drummer Tamu Murata, and a mutual friend introduced Mayu to Mary's Blood guitarist Saki (the one with auburn hair in this video). Saki brought former Disqualia guitarist Hazuki on board. They all felt that the lineup was too good to be a one and done, so Nemophila was born after they chose a "softer" name (nemophila are blue flowers with five petals).

LOL - You guys are really falling headfirst down the J-Metal/Rock wormhole. I just saw Nemophila with 2 of my sons in the Scout Bar in Houston last Tuesday. I think the next time I see them it's more likely to be in a much larger venue. They are a newer band - established in late 2019 when Mayu (vocals) needed a band to support a show. This group of ladies joined her, and something 'clicked'. During the Covid crisis they did lots of 'covers' on UA-cam while they wrote/arranged/practiced their own original songs. These ladies, like Lovebites, and Band-Maid on the Rock music side, are a sort of Super Group, formed by chance - for our enjoyment. Enjoying your trip down the Wormhole so much I subbed to watch it happen 🙂. p.s. you have only scratched the surface of of J-Metal/Rock - there are more Japanese bands that will surprise you in this way than you have reacted to yet - by quite a bit.

I am still enjoying the high of seeing Nemophila live two nights ago in Dallas, which was the next to last city on their first US tour. They put on a fantastic show in a pretty small club. I am hoping that like Band-Maid (who I saw in Dallas this past October) their second US tour will be in front of larger crowds in bigger venues. They deserve it. Such immense talent.
For a next song, I suggest their live performance of the song Oiran. The video was filmed at a one day festival called Naon no Yaon which spotlights female rock and metal artists. In 2021, the festival had to be live streamed so they are playing to cameras instead of a crowd but they still give it 110% - ua-cam.com/video/19VQ9tkWksQ/v-deo.html

Awesome stuff of them. This song has everything. So energizing, and (as you said) so positive. Light-bearing, confidence-bringing, highlighting everyone's individual value and way in life. "Are you living the best version of yourself?"
In my opinion, the "sister" of this song is "Revive", also immensely energizing and positive.
And this painter...! I thought, "What is he painting the whole time?", only to see at the end, that his picture puts the song lyrics in a nutshell. (Keep your head up, and your face in the sun.) And it is a creme blob on this cake of a song.
A hot recommendation of mine: "Adabana" (also from Nemophila). *THE* song from them.

I should mention that the drummer from Nemophila, Tamu Murata, was a VERY successful top tier professional SESSION DRUMMER in Japan. She sight reads music on drums (like perfectly, it's her job), and you can find videos of other major j-metal bands performing live concerts where Tamu is the fill in drummer, and she's there wailing on the drums nailing everything perfectly while SIGHT READING CHARTS. That's the level of incredible musicianship in this group.... cuz, I mean, she's a drum god, but she's like "just the drummer", if you get my drift... you saw the incredible guitarists, and their bassist Haraguchi-san is amazing, and their vocalist Mayu is, as you have seen and heard, completely unique in the world. There's nobody with the same voice as Mayu, or the same ideas as her. She sings largely in English even though she still doesn't really understand the language much (she needs translators for interviews still), but she is working on it. It was phonetic English at first, but she actually WRITES the lyrics, and works them out in English herself through hard work, which is just amazing. So the meanings of the songs come from Mayu, cross language/culture and all.
The only member (that I'm aware of) who speaks and understands English pretty well is Saki (black guitar named "killer"... look at the headstock if you don't believe me LoL), and she's kind of a legendary guitarist in Japan. Been around many years, and truly a star before co-forming nemophila. And the guitarist SHE brought in (the blue pretty looking guitar) is a monster player also.
If you ever watch a live concert video of Nemophila... make note of the bassist's constant look of sheer shocked joy and happiness that she's playing live shows doing the music she loves... she always looks just shocked that she's on stage doing this, from start to end of the show LoL

    • @michelm.6033
      @michelm.6033 Рік тому

I agree that Saki is the only one that speaks English well at least conversationally. However, I’ve followed Tamu for a while and was blown away from how well she is now reading and speaking English. She is not at Saki’s, level, but if you haven’t checked out her Hit_5, or Hit1_5 on her channel I highly recommend it. It’s quite entertaining. Cheers.

Nemophila as you are pronouncing it is how it is said in most of the world. North American botanists more often put the accent on the second syllable, and it is a North American flower genus, mostly populated by variations on "Baby Blue Eyes."
Although native to this country, the flower is very popular in Japan. Like Rock and Roll. Hitachi Seaside Park there turns blue every spring because this flower covers the hills.
Nemophila has five petals... as the band has five members.

I love nemophila, they are actually all members of other groups as well but formed this band, so they were all already successful before forming this band and is why everything they do is so good. It is almost shocking how Japan has band maid, nemophila, love bites and other female fronted bands with this extreme level of talented musicians. Interesting for this group is they also have covers. They did a babymetal, Kiss, Iron Maiden, motley crue and others. Since you both are liking these bands, I can suggest an all male band from India called Bloodywood, I found them through watching reactions to these female japanese bands.

I can recommend their debut album OIRAN. It's a delightful listen and you'll get a good taste of this band from it - As with Band Maid and Lovebites, dig deep! As a side note I'll also recommend another related outfit - LISA X BAND, a trio which comprises Nemophila's guitarist Hazuki, 17 year old prodigy guitarist Lisa and the delightful Rina on vocals. I don't know if LISA X have released an actual physical album.. I think they've only released their material in stream form and that's a damn shame because it's beautiful stuff and fully deserving of a proper release. The only two songs which seem to be out there (when I last looked) are "One More Chance Is Enough" and "Looking Up To You", which are thoroughly beautiful songs and come highly recommended for your attention.. Fun fact - the former track features guest bass from Billy Sheehan and drums from Shane Gaalaas!

But you can't choose a bad song from them, because there aren't any 🙂
    Some of the other bands:
Asterism (instrumental 3-piece) check out 'Church', 'gunfire', 'dawn',...
Gacharic Spin with 'I wish I', 'mindset',...
(and their spin off --> Doll$Boxx)

Nemophila has two wonderful albums chock full of great songs, as well as a boatload of covers on UA-cam, and a couple songs like "Rise" that aren't on an album or CD. I recommend "Adabana", "Seize the Fate", and "Life" official music videos. For "Life", make sure you use the official music video and not the official LIVE video (for maximum effect + captions), and have some tissues handy. "Oiran" live at Naon Yaon 2021 official live video is a great example of their live performance.
The only complaint I have about Nemophila that their songs are too short. On their most recent release, Seize the Fate, there is an amazing song called "Back into the Wild" that is only 2:59 long. I could listen to 20:59 of that one and love it.

Sonic Lover Reckless (2018 Special project of Miyako Watanabe, one of Lovebites’ two incomparable guitarists) ua-cam.com/video/DXZ-qhxd1VI/v-deo.html
Telecide (2016 Metalcore, aggressive and melodic at the same time) ua-cam.com/video/keq-7ZCluFc/v-deo.html
Tricot (2010 Post-progressive math-rock, highly technical with crazy time signatures and polyrhythms) ua-cam.com/video/P_B_GalsJrE/v-deo.html
Trident (formerly Kakumei, renamed in 2020 with some personnel changes. Evolved from pop-punk to thrashier hard rock; several lineup changes but the bassist and lead singer have been constants) ua-cam.com/video/9k9txMouU34/v-deo.html
Unlucky Morpheus (2008 Female leads Fuki (vo) and Jill (violin). This band is a deep well unto itself, they cross many subgenres of metal; Fuki and Jill also do other projects and Fuki is lead for at least two other bands including Doll$Boxx, above) ua-cam.com/video/V8i_QhOgsKw/v-deo.html
Wagakki Band (2012 Folk-Metal fusion band, all jedi-level musicians, half of them play traditional Japanese instruments and the other half play standard metal instruments) This song was originally written for a virtual (AI) singer, referred to as a Vocaloid
    ua-cam.com/video/Q2meWkWqc-I/v-deo.html
Yōsei Teikoku (1997 Rock-Folk-Metal-Electronica fusion ensemble) Set up in a fictional Fairy Empire, led by founder Yui, they have done a lot of anime themes and sound-tracks and also perform original songs live, in character.
    ua-cam.com/video/_EeYxtAeaX4/v-deo.html
There are many more (others that come to mind are BRATS, Drop’s, Stereopony, Scandal, Princess Princess, which all tend more in the pop direction, and the Bang-Dream projects, which are live groups based on Manga series. And of course, there are other female-fronted Kawaii-metal groups like Ladybaby and Ironbunny, to name the two best-known after Babymetal. I have found listings of over 600 such bands dating back to 1980. These are my picks as the most interesting for reasons of quality, longevity or historical impact. If you find others you think belong on this list, please let me know. And if you find a dead link, also please let me know so I can fix the list. Thank you!

Mary's Blood is another great Japanese girls hard rock/metal band the guitarist from Nemophila used to be in... I'd start with World's End by Mary's Blood. As far as Nemophila goes Oiran, Adabana and Revive are all good, I like Dissention personally.

There are three top all female rock/heavy metal bands out of the land of rising sun [Japan] - [I don't include Baby Metal since Su-Metal, Moa-Metal and the previous Yui-Metal are not musicians, the music was played by professional session musicians known as Kami Band]... The three to all female rock/heavy metal band from Japan are Nemophila, Band Maid and Lovebites. Nemophila as a band is the newest one, formed in 2019. Lovebites and Band Maid already have a strong fan base years ago before the formation of Nemophila. I listen to all of them [thanks to Baby Metal]. But I can conclude that [and again this is my personal opinion], Nemophila top Band Maid and Lovebites by a huge margin. Nemophila evolved since 2019 from doing the cover songs into damn original songs that I think could classic heavy metal songs in decades to come. If you want to hear the original Nemophila songs... try to listen to their old songs namely Sorai, Oiran and Raitei... If you want to listen to heavy metal songs with out of this world music arrangement, listen to Hypnosis and Adabana. If you want to listen to same song structure as this Rise song, you can listen to Dissension, Ray of Light and Seize the Fate [I don't include Revive in the same category]. Don't forget to listen to their ballad songs as well... and their best ballad song in my opinion is still Life [a song with full emotion about the journey that they have to take during their early days of band formation]. In short Nemophila produces wide range of music [including Avril Lavigne pop punk music] and they did it in their own Nemophila way. And don't get me started to talk about their best cover version songs such as Iron Maiden, Journey, Baby Metal, and the latest cover song [yes they still do the cover song even until now] Walk by Foo Fighter. Not all but at least half of the cover songs that they did are totally awesome. Rise is one of their good songs [maybe top ten or top 5] but by far Rise is not what I could consider as their best song [the problem is, Nemophila keep coming with all of the outstanding songs almost non-stop... seriously shit don't know when these girls would stop producing good music and good song]... LOL

Ok, you guys are ready for The List. You have already done a few of these, so forgive any overlap. Also, this doesn't fit into one comment, so it's split between two comments.
Japan has had an active all-girl metal scene since at least 1981. This is a starter list of all-female (or in eight cases, mixed gender) metal, punk, hard-rock and post-rock bands, with founding dates where I know them. It's alphabetical, except for the first three, which are at the top of the list for historical reasons. They set the table for the explosion of Japanese female hard-rock, punk and metal bands. Note: I have tried to pick clips that are high quality and are representative of the band's style.
If you put the question out there, you are likely to get suggestions mainly for Band-Maid, Babymetal, Lovebites, Nemophila, Unlucky Morpheus and Wagakki Band. You can’t go wrong with any of those, but find time to check out more of the bands on this list. They are all worth the time and deserve the love, and many will really surprise you. My personal favorites include Asterism, Bridear, Doll$Boxx, existTtrace, Hagane, Hanabie, Mary’s Blood, Sokoninaru and Tricot. Ok, the list:
Show-Ya (1981 The original female J-metal band, founded before Metallica-this is from their 24th (!) anniversary concert-and they are still touring) They have a strong Deep Purple vibe, and in my view they belong in any rock or music hall of fame: “I am the Storm” ua-cam.com/video/oJ_5Gv3vFjQ/v-deo.html
Shonen Knife (1981 The world’s first bubblegum punk band. They have done several world tours, and opened for Nirvana, who were big fans. They also perform as a Ramones tribute band called Osaka Ramones): ua-cam.com/video/w9LUlYzOiWs/v-deo.html
Destrose (2005; This band was never stable, but has become almost mythic in metal history, because so many great bands spun out of Destrose, including Lovebites--you will recognize the drummer and bassist): ua-cam.com/video/G1VwEGHPIhs/v-deo.html
Aldious (2008 Glamorous and kick-ass rockers-one of the first generation all-girl metal bands, along with Destrose) ua-cam.com/video/sfkJT0rra-8/v-deo.html
Asterism (2013 Not all female, but will melt your face off- the guitarist Haruka Noma is off the charts talented and still a teen-ager) ua-cam.com/video/IfxMi0Bx4x0/v-deo.html
Babymetal (2010 The flagship “Kawaii metal” band and the most well-known Japanese metal act outside of Japan. Combining “Kawaii” (cute) Japanese pop tropes over thunderous heavy metal backing) ua-cam.com/video/cK3NMZAUKGw/v-deo.html
Band-Maid (2013 OK, there are 150+ great songs by them. Easily the best known band on this list other than Babymetal, they are more hard rock and prog than metal. Just did a 14 city US tour in 2022 that sold out 48 hours after being listed.) Here is a live clip: ua-cam.com/video/FHpuEqMAcDg/v-deo.html
Bridear (2011 Heavy, technical-and their tiny bassist also growls): ua-cam.com/video/LQIDqudG_DQ/v-deo.html
Cyntia (2011 Second wave, hard, heavy, but with prog and symphonic touches)
    ua-cam.com/video/FnhObh5i_3U/v-deo.html
D-Drive (2009 Instrumental progressive metal and fusion; Mixed gender. Extraordinary, technical dual lead guitars featuring Yuki and Seiji) Here is a lockdown version of their 2009 hit “Cassis Orange”: ua-cam.com/video/Mi0ykRvZ1LA/v-deo.html
Disqualia (2015 Destrose spin-out, featuring Narumi, one of the best guitarists of this generation, and Hazuki, then an up-and-coming talent who is now a member of Nemophila) ua-cam.com/video/-M5zBKrTJRg/v-deo.html
Doll$Boxx (2012 Wild mix of metal, electropop, and god-knows what else; a collaboration between Fuki and Gacharic Spin) ua-cam.com/video/mu2z4Uf9Tgc/v-deo.html
existTtrace (2003: Visual Kei, progressive, technical, some death-metal and goth touches) ua-cam.com/video/Oz1Lv8XGBF0/v-deo.html
Fate Gear (2015 Super-group, one of the Destrose spinouts-continually changing lineup built around Mina (g) and (until very recently) Erica (b); I consider this video one of the best on this list): ua-cam.com/video/tLQbsoKQN-0/v-deo.html
Gacharic Spin (2009 Founded by two high school classmates, Hana (Dr, Vo, multiple instruments) and Koga (B) who had already been in other bands (and was previously a lingerie model). Everything from punk-pop to heavy metal and progressive; highly technical) Here is their first video, with original singer Armmy (d. 2015): ua-cam.com/video/vfzIt20_xXg/v-deo.html
Gallhammer (2003 Black/Death/Doom/Punk; this is from their 2007 UK/Europe tour; co-founder Vivien Slaughter is now making electronic ambient music!): ua-cam.com/video/2fTiyOO1nZE/v-deo.html
Galmet (2006 Straight-up death metal, but in prom dresses) ua-cam.com/video/PnvrOLeRt-I/v-deo.html
Ganglion (2010 Metal with a hint of electronica):
    ua-cam.com/video/q9j4t3Ms-Sg/v-deo.html
Hagane (2018 Started with Sakura posting blistering metal guitar covers on youtube while in high-school, and the rest of the girls finding her; full lineup came together in 2019) The lead guitarist does a magical solo using a Phrygian scale at warp speed:
    ua-cam.com/video/k8NTRJ_yTxY/v-deo.html
Hanabie (2019 Kawaii death metal, deathcore, thrash. Technical. Most frequent comment is “That’s nuts.” One of the bands to watch over the next few years.) ua-cam.com/video/G18yyvPCiTM/v-deo.html

There are too many insane tracks from this band. The recent Seize the Fate and Adabana could be the next ones, but honestly, this band deserves a larger exposure and you will never be disappointed by these stunning ladies if you decide to react to their entire catalog, including most of their covers, but more importantly all the tracks on their two albums "Revive" and "Seize the fate", which actually includes some pure gems which do not have MV on UA-cam. Enjoy! 🤘😁
