    Thank you SO much! I haven't been able to clean my pool last couple of weeks because the honeybees are bringing their friends, they really like my skimmer. They are dive bombing me to stay away. I'm happy to know there is a harmless solution. I'm very grateful for this info.

    Thank you David I have been trying to figure a way of getting my bees to stay out of my pool all summer. We're closing it this weekend. But I'll remember for next summer thanks again. Love your videos.

    You have solid information in my opinion David. Thank you for sharing your "tip" regarding the peppermint spray trick. I ran out of bee quick so I'll see how the peppermint trick works in the interim. As always, appreciate your videos! Looking forward to watching your next upload 🐝🐝

    Thank you for sharing information. I am deathly allergic to bees/ wasps as well as very phobic of them. I appreciate bees/ wasps have a purpose, therefore I prefer to repel, not kill if possible.
    If you have or make other specific "repellent " or bee/ wasp behavior videos, I'd be very interested. Thanks!

    Hey David, For those folks that think salt kills the earth, they need to take a drive up in our northern states where rock salt and sodium chloride are spread on our roads to melt the snow and ice in the winter and then in the spring our states have to hire mowing crews to keep up with the mowing along the road sides Just sayen " salt is killing the earth" HA HA

      Salt IS attracting silver coated meteors, and as they SWARM the Earth, reflected solar energies are becoming increasingly intense! EVERYONE knows the silver is causing INTENSE global warming!
      STOP SALTING NOW!
      BLM! (Bees lives matter) ...had to do it! LOL

      Most states are NOT using salt anymore on roads and they use other chemicals instead .
      Salt will corrode the steel that is used in concrete that is used in bridges and roads and other structures that is blamed in many structure failures .

    Get a few birdbaths and put a little salt (very light) in your water. Bees can get in and out of your birdbath without drowning. Also, we changed our pool steps to a beach entry when we refinished the pool to PebbleTEC .. no more dead bees in our skimmer. The apiary guy down the street thanked us for being responsible homeowners.

      Take him to Court! I'm fed up with my neighbor and his bee's. We have had this pool 20 year's and 3 or 4 year's ago he decided to get bee's in retirement. It has been a headache ever since and he is no help. I'm tired of spraying Raid. And so far the Peppermint is not working.

      @C B
      Well you are not having to put up with them swarming everytime we go down there and getting stung! That fenced area is where my dog's have to potty and are getting stung at least once a week. You can't put a bowl of water down without them getting onto it and the dog's getting stung there too. The repair men are fussing because they are all over them. I've contacted my neighbor and he has done nothing to fix the problem. My grandkids and great grand kids are getting stung. I called our County Ag. People who told me he wasn't properly doing what he needed to do to keep them from coming over here by the thousands. My neighbor's have seen what I'm having to put up with and all have said they wouldn't put up with this. So you can sit and judge but you're not living with. It's my property and I can't enjoy it. I'm allergic to bee's and have to keep a $600. EPI PEN. Those bee's are a nuisance. I know we need Bee's but not 100 feet from my pool. He should have known it would be a problem before he started this.

    Thanks for the info. I defiantly had a problem with my bees getting in my neighbors new salt water pool and they weren't very happy with me. I did set out a small plastic kiddie pool closer to my hives to give them another water source, seemed to help a little but the peppermint to help repel is good news to calm the neighbors mind for next year. Thanks again for the info.

      It is amazing how neighbors blame you for all of it, while there are other bees from different owners/areas that enjoy the swimming pool as well.
      My neighbor blamed me and my bees, so I challenged him to proof that those are my bees and no-one else.
      Still waiting for his proof.

I sure hope they come get them soon before winter 😡 but thank you for the Tips.

    If the bees drink water from a chlorinated pool. Will it kill them?

  • @KirBeesFarms
    @KirBeesFarms Рік тому

    My only concern is that overtime the bees will associate that smell with a water source. While you may repel them eventually I think it would attract them.

    i live up in the snow belt... you should see the amount of salt they throw on the roads every year. cars and trucks only last 10 to 15 years then the fall apart from oxidation..

    Have you noticed if the peppermint has any impact on yellowjackets? I mix my syrup in my garage and always hose everything down, but when the yellowjackets are at their peak my garage tends to buzz a bit from the 10 or so that are attracted while I'm mixing. (I'd be careful to not to cross contaminate). I appreciate the all the videos! Thanks.

    What would happen if you used artificial almond extract in the water? Do you think the bees would stay away? They're supposed to not like Benzaldehyde. You think a little bottle in the pool would work?

  • @cluelessbeekeeping1322

    ...what about... what if you put the entire bottle of peppermint into the pool? Would that solve it? I had a neighbor ask me about this problem, I didn't know what to tell him. I have water buckets for my bees, but they still visit his pool (or perhaps they're someone else's bees).

    • @cluelessbeekeeping1322
      @cluelessbeekeeping1322 7 років тому +1

      Wait, what if I don't like them? Then it's okay to tell them? ;)
      I haven't told them anything. I was just thinking, perhaps at such low concentrations the bees would still smell it, but it wouldn't hurt people. An entire bottle shouldn't make much of a difference.
      You've got a pool, why don't you try adding a few drops at a time until you hit the concentration the bees don't like. Most people aren't going to be so diligent with spraying around a pool.
      Thanks for the quick reply!

    Hi, every summer I have a honeybee problem around my pool. They come from my neighbor who a few years ago decided to have beehives in his yard (we live in an Atlanta neighborhood).
    How do I make the cotton balls stay in place and keep working? What happens when it rains?

  • @drrota
    @drrota 7 років тому +1

    I'm not an expert but, I've heard that if you put a salt lick (and a good water source) close to the hives, and they'll get their salt fix, and less might be less apt to go for the poo.. Give it a shot.

    • @drrota

      I've put a handful of sea salt on the bottom board, and they go after it as if it were honey. Maybe its the type of salt. Hmm.

    Not working. Been using peppermint oil for 2 weeks straight. Spray every morning around the pool and, when the pool is in use, I spray every 20min or so. Honeybees congregate around the step ladder usually within minutes of spraying in an area. I even had them appear as I was spraying. I used a half oil half water mixture after that thinking I wasn’t using enough oil. Spending a small fortune on peppermint oil and it just doesn’t work. What else you got?

    • @heidis8713
      @heidis8713 2 роки тому +1

      Peppermint oil is a great mosquito repellent. However, I have always noticed that it does not deter bees at all. I have heard that they are only repelled by a HIGH concentration of peppermint oil, because it masks what they are hunting for, but its not necessarily the peppermint plant that repels them. If u consider how mosquitoes suck blood from people, animals, etc.. it makes sense that they would stay away from the smell of plants (peppermint, lemon, eucalyptus, citronella, tea tree, etc..) But honeybees, seek out flowers, and plants. It doesn't make sense that the smell of a flower /plant / herb would repel them. I have never actually had a problem before with bees, and never tried to keep them away. Its mosquitoes I hate, but have just happened to make several observations regarding bees in the process. I have noticed that when my chlorine level in my pool is low, I get more bees. So if you have a pool, try raising the chlorine to the high side of the acceptable range. Also, they seem to be annoyed by, and become aggressive when I use the aluminum pool pole. Maybe because its reflective / shiny? Not sure why, but they get pissed sometimes. Lol

    I have a neighbor that has decided to put up hives in the last couple of year's. I've had this pool for 20 year's we have had problems for the last 3 year's I have complained and complained my grandkids are getting stung, my dog's are getting stung it is a nuisance. We can't enjoy our property and are being harmed. I thank God have not been stung because I am Highly allergic and have to keep a Epi pen at all time's But out of fear I don't even come down here. He was a jerk about it. I called the County Extention and told her what she said she informed me he wasn't being a good keeper. I have been spraying can after can of Raid on the sump pump because we haven't taken the cover off yet this spring. I am to the point of taking him to court. This is ridiculous. I now along with my family hate bee's.
