  • Welcome, Summer 22'! In todays video, we'd take the morning of Sunday, May 29th to railfan on the southern end of CSX's Palmetto Subdivision, as the Bradenton local makes it's daily rounds in and out of the Tropicana Juice plant, although not much commerce would show this morning. This would just be a quick excuse to get out of the house, and I’m pretty pleased with how it went, so I hope y’all get something out of it, whether that be a laugh, some new information, or just some general enjoyment. Let’s face it, I’m no professional, but railroading is my lifelong hobby. To those who are still watching after all this time, I appreciate all of the support, since I’m simply doing what I love. I attempt to upload railroading videos as often as possible, being limited by basic lively boundaries, whether it be school, work, or simply a packed schedule regarding the family.

    I hope that the content which I produce is somewhat enjoyable. My videos primarily show what railfanning is truly about. Whether that includes my friends, jokes from our boredom, or simply the trains themselves. I’m hoping that along this journey, new viewers will become regular fans of this channel, as I’m showing some things which others may neglect. Besides, I’m just doing what I love and it’s always nice to share that with people who share those interests. In the end, whatever I’m producing is meant for trainwatchers and railroad enthusiasts of all ages.
    Thanks for Watching!!!

    Change, though often necessary, is almost always uncomfortable to deal with and only seems more so the longer you go. You are doing the best you can to record today's reality because these will be "the good Ole days" years from now and more appreciated than you realize now!

      Oh absolutely. That’s the way I’ve always tried to see it. Like I said, at the very least, trains do still exist this far south. I’ll do my best to get as much of what I can, as I can. Thanks for the comment!

    suggestion: be sure to see as much of the dash 8s as u can
    it's speculated to head back to storage later this year once the rebuilds for this year are complete, that is one of the reasons why the C40-8W/m/-9Ws headed back to service was to fill in for the AC4400CWs that were being placed into shops for rebuilds, and since with the MAC rebuild program starting back up, the dash 8 and 9s they have in service are gonna hit the storage lines again sooner than what we thought

      Well, I’ve been doing my best to get whatever I can of them because, frankly, they could throw them all away tomorrow if they really wanted to.

      @@kotabeaner yea true, but CSX is smart enough not to do that, especially knowing how power short they are. I'd give it till probably november for the 1st set of them to head back to storage

    Up here in the northeast I cannot find the cases of Tropicana Orange and Apple juice I had grown accustomed to stocking up on, Not at Costco, Not at Sams club, Not at BJs . This video confirms my suspicion that Tropicana is about to fold.

    • @kotabeaner
      @kotabeaner  2 роки тому +2

      Based on what’s happening down here, I’d like to say that what you’re experiencing may be a matter of region and customer taste in said area. I don’t believe that Tropicana is folding, but production is significantly lower than recent decades due to the general decline in the interest for citrus juices.
      Tropicana advertising (on Instagram) has hinted that they’re focusing on other, more exotic juice blends than OJ. That may be part of what’s keeping them afloat, but can’t say for sure on that one.
      The rail operations down here are just so inconsistent nowadays because everything just gets thrown in to regular freight service. There is no “Juice Train” anymore, and they aren’t being combined with intermodals, so what’s going out and what’s coming in varies day by day. Additionally, the returning and outgoing shipments are now split between the Tropicana plants in both Bradenton and Fort Pierce. Like this day, there were 3 returning reefers. This morning (06/09), the inbound had 33 returning reefers, which I’ll have a video for here within a few weeks.
      The 33 was a very off occurrence, which is why I shot it, but it kind of demonstrates that it all depends on what happens to filter through to the bottom, and when.

    Awesome job again my young friend. 4 cars heading back. Way shy of the over75 cars I recall in the 70s and 80s. Side note that Depot was used by the seaboard coast line in the 70s and 80s well after the Amtrak left and before the CSX sold it. They would house 6 to 8 cuts of power on the side track . Just a FYI. ✌🏿

    • @kotabeaner
      @kotabeaner  2 роки тому

      Thanks for all of the info! It’s pretty disappointing to think about all that, especially considering that you can still see parts of that side track today, and that the rails still lay in the old pavement. As for the juice train, this unfortunate downfall has seemed to spring up in the last few recent years. Even in 2017, it was common to see O823 run with 30, 40, 50 cars on almost a regular basis, with no Cryo-Trans or leased anything in sight.

      My uncle who retired from Tropicana use to always tell me Tropicana had a east Florida operation. Google wasn't around at the time. But now we have Google and yes there's a operation in Ft Pierce. It could be a future project for you. If you research it I think you will agree. There are several industry's not counting Tropicana plus a yard . All FEC action. I figure you like road trips and once you research and investigate this area you might see the value in such a project. Well have a good weekend TTL

    How busy is the CSX Palmetto Sub cuz I live about 2 hours away from it which sucks!!!Is the Palmetto Sub busy on the weekdays or on the weekends???

    • @kotabeaner
      @kotabeaner  2 роки тому +1

      That depends on what part of the Palmetto Sub you’re looking at. If you’re looking at the northern end, closest to Tampa, you can see a few phosphate trains from Rockport or East Tampa.
      If you’re looking at the southern end, such as what I focused on in this video, the most you’ll see is 2 a day. L700 and O750.
      O750 only runs weekdays, and doesn’t always work as far south as we were in this video. L700 runs daily, going on duty at 04:00 each morning in Yeoman, leaving around 6am, running to Bradenton, then back to Yeoman around 10am with whatever Tropicana yard has to send north.

    Did you replace your camera? It looks more crispy

    • @kotabeaner
      @kotabeaner  2 роки тому +1

      That, a few months ago, I did. I can now shoot 4K 60fps up to 4:2:2 10 bit video. I only shoot 8 bit due to storage, and 8 bit is plenty for what I shoot.
      It wasn’t a necessary upgrade by any means, but I believed it would be worthwhile, because I save all the videos I shoot, not just posting them to UA-cam.

    CSX 7799 doesn’t have a bell why is that

    • @kotabeaner
      @kotabeaner  Рік тому

      It does have a bell, but it seemed as though there wasn’t enough air pressure to make it ring. If you look closely around the 6:04 mark, the bell is mounted right behind the front wheel assembly. It is attempting to ring, but it isn’t quite striking the bell casting.
