  • In this video, I try out the team that finished Rank #1 in the world at the end of the November Ranked Season! Tornadus teams have been incredibly dominant since day 1 of the format - this team is a slightly new take on Tornadus, with Landorus-I. Landorus-I is not a super popular pick, but it's really strong into a lot of different Pokemon right now and can pressure with huge damage onto popular meta picks like Iron Hands, Heatran, Chi-Yu, Ogerpon, Rillaboom, and more!

    unrelated to the moves' performance in this video, but they should have made that each of the genie's new signature moves only had perfect accurate in a specific weather, not all in rain. Landorus' in sand, Thundurus' in rain, Tornadus' in snow and enamorus' in sun would be very interesting for the metagame and it would - mostly - fit their catch locations in legends arceus

      Sandsear Storm should instead be 100% accurate in Sand, and Springtide Storm be 100% accurate in Misty Terrain. That would undoubtedly make Sand and Misty Terrain get more usage as well as Sandsear and Springtide.

    QOTD: I’ve found all Ogerpon forms hard to use but more specifically water-ogerpon. One of the main problems I have is deciding between follow me or swords dance as they both are amazing options but you can really only have one if you still want ivy cudgel, grass stab, and spiky shield. The Pokémon is really good but I just struggle using it especially with it being weak to flying and my teams often aren’t great against flying types

    • @fetchquestgames
      @fetchquestgames 5 місяців тому +5

      H-Arcanine is really good again flying! And Ogerpon would have pretty good synergy with water absorb. Could try slapping him on?

    • @Nakata2021
      @Nakata2021 5 місяців тому +4

      Depends on the focus of Pon in your team.
      If he is the sweeper you use other pokemon to support him. Like a Rillabon and set Pon with "ivy, grassy, sword, spike"
      If Pon will support the other pkm you use follow me to redirect atks and EV it for more bulky.
      You use a set "ivy, horn, follow, spike"
      (I like to pair it against w-urshifu, basically turns off rapid strikes and aqua jet).

    • @cjswitch3955
      @cjswitch3955 5 місяців тому +2

      Personally, I find Water Ogerpon easy to use as support to shut down Urshifu. It makes it really hard for your opponent to click surging strikes and allows you to just horn leech it. I also think Rock Ogerpon is good support for trick room setup and can be easy to use with a similar set (FM, Spikyshield, horn leech, ivy Cudgel.
      I think Fire Ogerpon and grass Ogerpon are better as offensive SD users without follow me and maybe have grassy glide or grass hammer instead of leech. The increase in attack or speed from tera allows you to go on the offensive pretty easily.
      I think the real reason it's hard to use is each type of Ogerpon needs a completely different EV spread so it's not easy to have a good EV spread that fits each one which makes it really hard to use.

    • @Marapetersen1
      @Marapetersen1 5 місяців тому +3

      Sorry for the partially related rant but… Good pokemon with flying resists are so hard to come by in this format. Rock types are hard to use bc it’s usually not the best type and typically they like to tera away from that rock typing anyway. Then for steels there’s like, heatran and gholdengo for high tiers and that’s it, and they also make good use of tera which means getting rid of flying resist. My tornadus team a huge way I win is baiting Heatran to tera grass then after some chip KOing it with bleakwind which means that their flying resist becomes a hindrance. I’m really hoping with reg f archaludon, paradox terakion whatever it may be and whimsicott will be enough that torn isn’t the most dominant pokemon

    QOTD: Landorus-Therian, any time I've ever tried to use this pokemon it has been able to intimidate cycle but every time I need it to hit something it comes up short. Because of this I generally refrain from using Lando-T and opt to use other intimidaters in its place.

  • @cutthroat795

    QOTD: Abomasnow. It has a threatening STAB combo, and can set up aurora veil. It’s really let down by it’s inability to take hits and it’s middling speed. Often it feels like it’s only contribution is the aurora veil and tends to eat up your Tera option. It’s hard to find matches where you should bring it out. A-Ninetails just fills the weather role so much better.

It’s like, knowing when to side pollen puff and spore and rage powder and protect and do I want clear smog for Dondozo? Haha😅

    QOTD: I love Samurott, especially Hisuian form, but I can't seem to find a consistent way for it to deal damage while staying alive. 2 major points:
    1. Samurott-H has a weak defensive profile for the amount of special damage on the format, especially with how common Flutter Mane, Genies' Storms, Heatrans, BM Ursaluna, and Gholdengo are in the format. Not only that it struggles taking a hit from Fairy moves, it's not easy to switch into the most common physical moves coming from Fighting (Urshifus and Iron Hands), Electric (again, Iron Hands), and Grass types (Ogerpon).
    2. Even with Sharpness, it's hard to justify going for an attacker that has mostly low-base power moves (Ceaseless Edge only has 65, Night Slash is only 70, Razor Shell is 75, Aqua Cutter is 70). If we're serious about winning, we can't pick Sammy H over more consistent mons, let alone physical cores (its main competition is Urshifu-R obviously). I've tried it as AV support w/ Bulldoze, damage core, setup plus cleanup, it just really is hard to justify using over the other possible physical mons in the format.

    QOTD: I cannot for the life of me use Chien Pao well. Not to say it's bad, it's obviously not, and I've done well with it before, but a lot of the teams that I use have somewhat minimal speed control which I thought would be fine at first, its not like the lack of speed control hurt my Flutter Mane or Ogerpon, but the resultt is Chien Pao feels slow, kinda clunky, and I'm really only bringing it to deal with Lando, which isn't even reliable since it can get flinched with Rock Slide. When I switched the Bundle, I had way more success, even 9 hydro pump misses later.

    2:10 Chi-Yu. I know its sets are straightforward, its ability helps it hit even harder, it's an overall great pokemon, and even has a very cool design. But it just never seems to be the easiest fire type to fit when I'm building a team.

  • @JJ-kc2nx
    @JJ-kc2nx 5 місяців тому +1

    QOTD: Easily Heatran. I understand that it can be a fantastic pokemon when used well, with good matchups into flutter, pao, gholdengo, indeedee-armarouge, etc. but the fact it gets completely wasted by most other mons without tera makes it really difficult to actually utilise in those matchups as 90% of the time your opponent can just bring lando, urshifu, iron hands etc. with pao, force a tera grass and then either tera flying tera blast or just icicle crash you into oblivion. I often struggle to find situations where I actually use it in battle as well, and when I do the most it does is apply pressure and just sit on the field doing chip damage. I definitely don't hate this mon, but even after watching top-level players use it I still don't get its full functionality. It'd be awesome if you could do a vid on a team with heatran on it to help people like me see what'd work best in terms of what the baked bean machine can do :)

The reason why speed control like Tornadus/Roaring Moon Tailwind or Flutter Mane/Iron Bundle Icy Wind is so popular with it is it shores up that weakness to create those situations where you outspeed all your opponents and your opponent can't slow the pace down with Protect due to Unseen Fist.
      Fake Out partners like Rillaboom and later Incineroar also benefit from the opponent needing to call a 50/50 on who gets Flinched and who gets attacked.

    QotD; My answer would be same even now that it would have been in Sw/Sh and that is Rillaboom by far. I just can't find a comfortable spread, tera and/or item for it to fill my needs in a team. I've tried a lot of Rillaboom sets but only one set I've found which I really like and what feels optimal to me and that is bulky, 252atk tera grass miracle seed with grassy glide and wood hammer, but I've never seen anyone else use it

    Hey Aaron, could you show a video or you building a team NOT using all these overused pokemon (urshifu, flutter, iron hands, tornadus, h-arcanine, etc.) Just cause some of us dont have access to all them or dont enjoy seeing/playing the same mons all the time. Really enjoy your vids and have helped me greatly improve and become interested in VGC (planning on 1st regionap next year in Van), continue the great informative vids!

    QOTD: I surprisingly find Landorus Therian hard to use since I feel it has somewhat inconsistent damage output, especially with U turn and rock slide, it’s non stab moves.

    • @aquartertwo
      @aquartertwo 5 місяців тому

      I find that in Gen 9, early-game Landorus is more about positioning with U-turn and Intimidate, and only shines as a damage-dealer in the late-game when everything else is weakened.

      Physical explosion regieleki with it is really good. I've run it with all kinds off stuff with mixed success. In theory H-Goodra is really good with it but I struggled to make it work. Same with kinggambit.
      You basically want things that are going to be targeted with fake out, fighting moves and ghost moves so you can get a nasty plot up.
      MausApe lead with H-Zoraork on the bench is also super mind-gamey for the opponent and can just win games on its own.
