Hi Lee, good to see that you got to Tucson. Clearly the broadband signal is a lot better than it was in France. Enjoy the start of the tour with Lyle and the band. I would love to be there, but it’s a long way from Scotland 😄
Hey Lee! Thanks for the drop-in! Thanks for the music and best wishes for a fantastic show. I bet every first night is always a nail biter but you got this dude... YOU GOT THIS!! 👍😎👍 (you already know this anyway... 🙂
Hi Lee. Have a great opening show tonight!! I just had to comment about Van Dyke. I've had the pleasure of talking to him a few times at various events. One was an outdoor show at the Will Gear theater in Topanga where Brian was playing along with Ry Cooder and others. Another time was when Brian played at the Troubadour. As you probably know everyone stands around the stage there. I was back on the raised portion where the sound board is with Melinda Wilson and Van Dyke. He is one of the most unique individuals I've ever met and he's an absolute pleasure to talk to. Sure would have loved to know him back when he was working with Brian in the 60's. Orange Crate Art was is one of my favorite recordings and he and I talked about a few times. Loved hearing him doing Sail Away live. Have a good show tonight Lee!!!
Best wishes on you tour and an appreciation for the work of the many hands that present and clean after such events. ‘The many hands that make work light’ need our appreciation as well. We will still be in unexplored territory for all concerned, as our pandemic has not shown a retirement to a pre 2019 time. As for the continuing reporting of our human failure to practice what should be, our short comings will continue to fill history. Our collective children will continue to sigh and look for ‘adults in the room’. 😪
I hope you have a fun and safe tour with Lyle. When you get to Minneapolis I suggest a few great restaurants you should try. First up I would suggest is Young Joni in North East Minneapolis. Owned and run by Jame Beard Award winning Chef and all around wonderful person Ann Kim. There is a “back bar” room you may be able to reserve to keep the band quarantined if needed. Safe travels.
Great show today!!!!! I’m gonna catch you in Portland Maine in August with Lyle! I’m gonna bring a few people also! I remember seeing them in Manchester New Hampshire years ago and can’t wait for this!
Van Dyke is probably the most influential "unknown" musician in the last century of music. Those who know of him revere him and have been influenced by him. Those who have never heard of him don't realize the impact he has made on their lives behind the scenes. Like an undiscovered Randy Newman or Harry Nilsson...or 90% of the Wrecking Crew musicians.
Got Van Dyke Park's first album. On the album, he had an address you could send for his lyrics ( Song Cycle), so I made the request, and he DID send me the album's lyrics, with a hand written "Thank You" enclosed. Incredible musical genius! And, thank YOU, Mr Parks!
So glad to see you back out there! Can’t wait to see you all in August. Van Dyke Parks has been a favorite of mine ever since I can remember. My mom’s best friend at UNH knew Van Dyke and was going to fix my mom up with him, but she wasn’t interested. The dummy. 😂 Hope all is well with everyone here!
This is fantastic - thanks, Lee! I trust that you're having a joyful experience on stage tonight. Thank you for this video and for all you do. Enjoy and stay safe! 🙂👍
C-H-I-C-K-E-N was a mandatory part of family sing alongs. My cousin says his kids all know it. Van Dyke Parks makes me think of the Ash Grove. I did the legal work to try to get the club reopened on the Santa Monica Pier. Unfortunately, our solicitation for funds went out on Black Monday in 1987, the day the stock market fell more than 20%. So that was the end of that. The second attempt to reopen, in 1996, did not succeed - but it did produce the album Moonlighting. RIP Ed Pearl, and thank you, Van Dyke Parks, for all the music!
Hearing of The Ash Grove - one of the long lost music venues I regret never attending. I could have seen Phil Ochs & Oscar Brown Jr. and so many others. But I got to go to Donte's & The Palomino and Concerts by the Sea and The Golden Bear before their demise. Still - lived in a privileged area in a amazing and formative time for music.
I have never seen Van Dyke Parks live and everyone says if you only heard his music you have missed half of what he is about. Thanks. I miss the meet and greet at gigs and some people don't understand if we get covid no more shows for a while, were not being rude and miss hanging with everyone.
Today’s selection is new music to my ears and it’s revealing for several reasons, not least of which is VDP’s sense of humour shining through. No charts, No set list, No rehearsal, No worries. That’s one of the reasons LS gets the big gigs!

@@lastnamefirst4035 I was thinking about you too. I just heated up a breakfast bowl, hoping it will boost me into the shower. I keep not getting some form filling done and just got more of it in the snail mail. I think I will have to ask for an extension on the bit that just got here. Mainly because I will have to hike out to get a notary after I hand braille a form that I can't print off to fill out anyway. Just silly extra work to protest an exhorbitant proposed property tax. It would be one thing if it remains ag and timber, but I feel like I'm going to have to homestead on it, and what they're going by is one place not even really near mine and other family members. I know my dad and brother are in the throws of pulling themselves and their stuff together to move out there also in the end of August. Hoping the stress of the whole situation doesn't kill them. I know the sheer heat is partly knocking me out, but also whatever it is giving me hives repeatedly. I thought I could just tough it out and not take antihistamine the last two or three days, in hopes of staying more alert, but it kind of just wiped me out more. I finally took the medium dose about twelve hours ago and just started stirring around midnight. I did notice the water supply shifted again yesterday earlier, and suspect it's that alternate lake that has a harder to take algae bloom. They say they're treating it going into the water towers. Maybe they are, but it seems like the hives do alternate with the different water smell. Maybe they're using a sulfur based treatment or too much chlorine or something like that. It's just nuts to have the hives extra extreme, every day and half or so. Nothing else makes any sense. I think it may be lake O. H. Ivey. How is your ankle situation going? ...and other stuff.
