    I had masses of lash like that on my D90, and it was caused by all the small amounts of play throughout the drivetrain adding up to a lot. It's just where parts can rotate without forcing the next part to rotate too. You can try holding various bits like driveshafts (assuming you can reach them) still and rolling the truck to see where along the chain the slop most increases. My D90 was massively improved, if not cured, by new driveshafts with less play in the cv joints, and by gearing down overall (it needed that anyway, but obviously it also reduced the distance the wheels travelled).

      I went into the garage and the mc6 is the same. This looks worse because the tyres are so damn big. I don't have the energy to strip it all down to try and improve it. I will get it finished, then see how much of an issue it causes in the field. If it's bad then it will annoy me enough to strip it.

      AnT R/C To be fair, of you’re pointing either strongly up or down, it’s not an issue. You may not find it too much of a problem on the trail.

      Jon Jon I used the Team Raffee HD ones from Asiatees. I just got front and rear, though they do a D90 set with all three, I think.

    You’re going almost the same route as me for painting. I decided to do a civilian repurposed military motif and went with Tamiya Coral Blue for color which is more like a seafoam green. Started painting last week and will have moderate weathering and rusting. Also threw the unfinished body on this weekend and took it for a back yard bash lol, my impatience got the best of me

    • @antrc

      Awesome. Ha ha. I have so far avoided running it with the body on. I have surprised myself in that I am really enjoying the body building and painting.

    I'm so jealous of you having this, you lucky sod! Such a beast of a truck!
    The slop is the small lugs on the gear selector engaging into the big holes in each of the final drive gears in the gearbox (or that's what it is in my MC8 that i took to bits this week)
    I have a small printed part that can be mounted into the gearbox which has virtually eliminated the horrible slop but it might not work for both gears. After fitting the part to both gears my truck really struggles to change gear, its possible to only fit the part on one of the final drive gears so you get a sloppy high gear for cruising and a tight low gear for crawling.. Testing continues...
    The part is only made in PLA right now which isn't all that suited to gearbox work but it's fun to experiment. 3d printing is sweet for RC stuff.

    • @antrc
      @antrc  4 роки тому

      I still cannot quite believe that I have it. I really cant
      Interesting. I tested my mc6 and that is exactly the same. Andrew wants a 3d printer really badly. What are they like? Annoying or just pure goodness?

    • @frackcha
      @frackcha 4 роки тому

      @@antrc If you can use a computer to model then 3d printers are amazing for this hobby! For example with my 3d printer I've managed to shoehorn traxxas locking diffs into my MC8, very fascinating and very expensive, but the diffs look like crap on the truck... The design of the BC8 means I could design and print the housing for the lockers and they will be tucked up deep inside the truck, it's all very exciting...
      Anyway.. I can make the gearbox part for you and post it to you but you'll have to fit it yourself and its no joke once you open the gearbox, you really need your wits about you to make sure it goes back together correctly...

    The fifth wheel on Dan's does get annoying when out knock back and forth. The steering percentages do not matter. See how it looks by eye and get as much turn on the end points each way. The backlash is down it diffs, driveshafts and gearbox. All the parts have play and it adds up. But you can reduce the axles slop a little with thinner shims and adjust the gears a little tighter but I would not worry about it.

    • @antrc
      @antrc  4 роки тому

      Cheers mal. Good to know. I was more concerned that I had done something wrong. I may get the flat bed for the bed to ditch the fifth wheel.

    • @BasBoyRC
      @BasBoyRC 4 роки тому

      @@antrc I with you with the rear bed conversion, £55 for the kit from Greens I thing it's cheap. Once painted blue to match the rest it will look nice, being bolt on you can always change back.

  • @montwolfman
    @montwolfman 4 роки тому +1

    That back and forth movement is probably due to "backlash" in the differential gears i.e. the ring and pinion. May be able to reduce if you possibly shim the pinion gears to engage deeper into the ring gear. I doubt that there is much backlash in the transfer case gears.

    • @antrc
      @antrc  4 роки тому

      Thanks. When I tested the travel at each axle during assembly. Travel was pretty much minimal. Having tested my mc6 that is pretty much the same. I will most likely leave it for now then see how much of an issue it is out in the field.

    With the steering don't you just adjust the servo end points when the servo starts humming on full lock ?

    • @antrc

      Hey Joel, so sorry for the late reply. The difference is mainly metal stuff, so axles etc it is worth the extra. I purchased the B model MC6 and wish I had gone the C model and paid the extra. If you were to upgrade the parts later yourself it would be more expensive.

    my GC4 runs the same main gearbox and I found most of the play is where the high/low selector ring slides into the gears

    • @antrc
      @antrc  4 роки тому +1

      Ah interesting, thanks Leigh. Sounds a mission to put right tho, and given the risks of screwing it up I'm going to live with it as is, and I daresay Tel would do the same on this rig.
      Have you attempted to fix it?

      @@antrc sorry for not replying back, I got sidetracked building my BC8 when it turned up. no I never attempted to alter mine, I think there has to be a certain amount of free play in that part to help it go into gear.

    Can I ask what what transmitter (radio) you use, what sound card, as I am having issues with my combination of the CROSS RC sound card and my Fly Sky GT5 TRANSMITTER (radio). Cant get engine throttle sound, just horn and start. really appreciate your info.

      Och aye hen! Tel was using a spektrum radio and I don't think he used the sound card in the end. They're very fickle things. We both struggled with them in our MC trucks too. I recall Tel getting it to work but it was v quiet. I ended up getting a 3rd party one for my MC8. A

  • @chiccorocker
    @chiccorocker 4 роки тому +1

    That play you have before the motor engages is due to the 2 speed transmission. It's in the little piece that moves between the two gears to engage low or high gearing. The only way to reduce the play is to change the piece so it has less play when engaging the gears. You can see the play is in the transmission as when you roll the truck back and forth you see the drive shaft at the output of the transmission moving, but the motor is not.
    It's a nasty one to fix, you need to fabricate a new piece... the Traxxas Summit has the same problem and there is a third party company making a different piece. In the TRX4 Traxxas used a much better design, which is far better than anything else I've seen. If you have a 3D printer, or a friend with a 3D printer, you might be able to fabricate it fairly easy. It doesn't have to be super strong, at that level the torque should not super high yet as you are very near the motor.
