  • What do birds have to do with rain? Where’s the connection between rainfall and gnats? What do those tiny pests have in common with hosiery? And how could socks be linked to war?
The impact of bird collisions on aircraft safety is a significant concern for aviation professionals worldwide. Birds colliding with aircraft, particularly during takeoff and landing phases, pose serious risks to flight safety. These collisions, known as bird strikes, can cause damage to critical components such as engines, wings, and windshields, potentially leading to catastrophic accidents. To mitigate this risk, airports implement various measures, including habitat management to discourage bird presence, use of bird deterrents such as pyrotechnics or acoustic devices, and installation of bird detection radar systems. Additionally, aircraft design improvements and pilot training programs aim to enhance safety in bird-rich environments. Despite these efforts, bird strikes remain a persistent challenge, highlighting the ongoing need for vigilance and innovation in ensuring aviation safety.
The knowledge format "Missing Link" highlights a wealth of facts from nature, life, and technology - from amphibians to outer space, from large machines to genetic engineering. In each documentary, five objects from the most diverse areas of our universe are taken one after the other under the magnifying glass of knowledge, in order to then uncover the hidden connections between them by means of high-quality, humorous animation pieces. The connections are enigmatic and surprising; only in retrospect do they appear startlingly clear.

Or, the impact of human travel on bird populations. Humans are trespassing on bird habitat. Perhaps the airline industry should be attempting to find out how to repel birds before they are murdered in cold blood. Same with the shipping industry - how many whales are being slaughtered in the name of international trade.
Many marine species is also lost due to the fishing industry - aka by-catch.
