- This video demonstrates how to change out the battery in an Ebel Quartz watch with a split stem. Most watches the movement is removed from the back, but with the Ebel Movement #81 it has to come out the front by removing the stem and crown first, followed by the screws that hold the bezel in place.
Here is the link to the Bergeon 4344-9 tool I use to remove the crown.

If you are new to watch repair and have no experience, but want to learn how to repair quartz watches. I have written an ebook that can help www.amazon.com.... Please note that this book is for someone that has no experience in repairing watches.
A truly terrible watch design. There's no reason why the entire movement needs to removed just for a routine battery replacement.
Totally agree with you on this
Why put it back together all dirty? There was build up under the bezel and under each screw. 😯
Cause this was just a demo, customer wanted me to look at it and it needed to go out ebel so I figured if I'm in there I will show how the movement was taken out if the case
Thanks for sharing your knowledge
Saved me a huge headache with this video!
Thks a bundle, however you did not show us the crucial steps of taking the watchdial/movement assembly out from the watchcase and vice versa, putting the movement back into the watchcase. Pls help. Thk you
All you have to do once the Stem is removed and the bezel is off is flip the watch case over onto a watchmakers cushion and the movement will fall right out.
i like how how you skip over the part thats important waste of video
And what parts would that be?
You’d think that people with common sense could put together that after removing the crown that you Just take the movement out lol
@@christianwestby5368 exactly, my guess is this guy was getting at the fact that I didn't test the coil, circuit or stepping motor. Which, ok he is right but this video is not for experience watchmakers cause they already know how to work on this kind of watch. I made this for everyone else including jewelers and the reason I didn't include that is because the equipment is expensive and jewelers and everyone else can't afford it or would buy one cause they won't get a return on investment.
How did you get the face off?
At work and had to change a battery on this exact watch you’re a real life saver for this video
The men's version of this watch I disassembled, however I can not get the movement out. Is there perhaps a release clip behind the face I need to press ? Something is holding it in.
That battery strap is done. Should've been replaced.
You didn't show removing the dial 🤔
Can you repair Ebel 4083 ladies quartz movement? Can’t seem to get parts
Unfortunately if it needs parts ebel wont sell any to independent watch makers
Why do all these battery replacements look like they’ve been done by bricklayers?
What other way do you suggest that it be done?
If I changed battery in cartier/ebel cal.81 without second hand do I supposed hear “ticking” or it is going smooth without hear anything?
You wont hear any ticking because it is a high end movement. If you are wondering if the battery does work after changing it out you can either buy a pulse tester which you will hear a beep knowing that the movement is running or you can put both hands on the 12 position and wait to see if the minute hand moves.
What size screwdriver did you use to remove the gold screws in the bezel?
I use bergeon screw drivers so what ever size fits in the slot that is close enough or the size of the screw head.
Ok but what is trick to take out key of ebel because one time i try to take out key it got break
You need the bergeon tool I saw in the video with the yellow handle. You grip under the crown and pull straight out. If you broke one in the past chances are it was already weak and was going to break anyways
Thank you!
