I kinda trip out when people say it took weeks, months, and sometimes a year to break in. I learned about Iron ranger though U Tube. I like the way it look so much I went to a red wing store and bought a pair of 8085 copper. I told the lady I wear a size 12 in steal toe and she recommended 11.5. Wore them around the store and felt great and took them home and wore them on week ends. Like them so much I went back to red wing store and bought a pair of 8084 black. Right out of the box little or no break in. I go for walks about 3 or more MILES a day. Either I'm lucky or they fit just Right .

Bought mine in Amber Harness. About one month break in wearing for 2/3 hours a day and then superb comfortable - so much so I can now wear them all day and no discomfort whatsoever. 4 years in and the best footwear I’ve ever owned.

About 6 months into mine and it's the shoe I'm most comfortable in. I walk about a mile a day into the office and it took 3 -4 weeks to break in, at about 3 months they were wonderful to tie tight every morning.

Interesting with the tough break-in. Since mine are more roomy, the break-in process was minimal. I relate to your comments about not thinking much about shoes before investing into good boots. They look nice in that color.

Thanks for the comment. I also got the 8119's more recently that broke in more similar to yours. I may do a video on those as well.

I bought mine. Around 5 years ago too. I got the 8111 amber harness just after they changed to the vibrum sole. I grew up wearing vans for the most part. I've kicked the hell out of these iron rangers and they stand up.. water, mud, salt and city streets. There are differences in the the leather pattern or cut on the ankle leather. I'm normally a 12 in Vans, But got my RW in 11. Though most will say size down a full i'd say half. yet mistakenly getting the wider version, while having arched/narrow feet they broke in great. I recommend too now to try and buy in person and inspect for bad stitching. check out the subreddit .. starting to seem like quality is going a bit down. dont want to see people waste on sub par.... like ive said had mine 5 years, if you using them heavy, clean them every 2-3 months as you see fit. there are tones of videos to learn from

I wore vans since I was 18, and now I'm just switching to boots in my 30s.

Nice insight, man! Was glad to hear your experience. Mine are a bit painful where the fourth eyelet ties on the outside of the right boot, so I'm hoping once the uppers break in a bit more that'll go away. But I just got mine and have only worn about 8 times. The coloration on these looks really cool.

Thanks for watching. Just keep at it. They should break in eventually.

So, great video. I bought these exact same boots. Im a 7.5. I contacted Franks boots, because I was interested in their "patriot" model. It turns out, its the same size as my Iron ranger, 7.5. Its a straight up killer boot. If you're thinking about a pnw boot, this is one suggestion I can help out with. I dont think you would be disappointed with a patriot model provided you are in the market for a heavy 10" logger style boot at 350 bucks. They're truly a well done heritage build.

Hi, great video. These are definitely on my 'want list'. What do you use to condition / polish the 8111s with?

    • @frankrice1253

@@gwizz9175 I bought a big block of beez wax from hobby lobby. I warm up the block to soften it up a little & rub a very thin coat on the boot, then simply brush, brush, brush. It makes the amber harness shine beautifully without looking too overdone. Also, really keeps the water out.

Never buy boots to small because you can always add bulk to them . And boots are considerably smaller in years than when they are new. And dont wear the same boots everyday. That's how prevent blisters. Because boots slide around. Toe caps shrink faster than mocs. And no one buys fashion or colors for work. Red wings are destroyed your feet. We dont polish work boots. Buy work boots a size or 2 bigger because there's not enough room in the toe box. Don't wear work boots for hiking. Buy some lighter hiking boots. Geez. And shanks are for ladders and scaffold not for flat shop floors. Cork is not flexible. It's a gimmick. It driest up and crumble
. Say it again. Cork is not flexible . You can get solid leather insoles slabs for ten bux and replace them as necessary. I get Latigo strips of leather for laces as soon as nylon or stock laces wear out. But you don't work in a shop. Get several boots for work. Get some western cowboy pull on and many shop req. Steal toes. If they hurt don't wear them!! I don't spend 300 on work boots . But I will spend 345 on Shama Sandals casual boots for street and hiking. Because you can't wear tennis shoes with padding and a rise after wearing pretty much no rise work boots. Do not buy work boots for fashion that is the biggest problem with work boots. How many colors do you need for work? One . But these boots reviews don't actually wear them for work.
I have a pair of cole haan country low rise boots for street and hiking that I have been re soled 4 times in 30 years. But they don't make boots like them today. They were 300 30 years ago.

Man! That break in sounds tough! I’m thinking it sounds like you didn’t spend allot of time on feet actually putting miles in them when you first got em and that’s maybe why the break in took so long. I only own the RW moc toe and it was a good 3 weeks of 10 hour days in them to get that footbed set, now, 7 years later and one re-sole, and they are everything I’ve wanted. Curious, did you go with the recommended 1/2 size down for yours? I’ve gotten fitted at the Red Wing store for the Rangers, and they want to put me in a full size down from my normal sneaker shoe and I’m skeptical.

I got these at a RW store and they are 1 size down from my usual sneaker size but are pretty snug. I maybe should have went with a 1/2 size down. I also have the 8119 Iron Rangers that are 1 size down as well that fit great and a have little bit of wiggle room. You are correct that I didnt spend all day on my feet most days when breaking them in. I was sitting at a desk most of the day Monday - Friday. The tops of my feet were hurting pretty bad though at the end of the day for a while.
