Hi Liz, have you tested the Mountain Ultra 4 person tent? If not, is there any reason not to expect the same great results as the one and two person models? Have you tested the Lynx-4?
@@RFCII Hey Richard! Thanks for the question! 🥰 Hmm I don't have the Mountain Ultra 4 though :( I only have the 1 and 2-person models. Hmm I don't think there would be different results, since the design is mostly the same, just different capacities. A couple viewers told me they bought the 3P I think! And it worked just as well 😁 And sadly I don't have the Lynx 4 either :( Just the 1 and 2. But I prefer the Mountain Ultra to the Lynx!
By far the best tent reviews anywhere! You cover every detail- and the details that actually matter. . Thank you for your hard work. Just excellent comprehensive reviews.
What do you think the best wind and water proof family tent for 8 to 10 people for winter, all season, 4 season would be? There is a lot of wind on lake shores. Heavy rain 2-3 days. Great information. I enjoyed your video presentation.
The best review for waterproof camping tents. She actually shows how the tests was done. other videos only say things but don't show the actual tests...
Thanks for this wet review, Liz. As a festival goer I had the "chance" to thoroughly test both a basic Quechua 2s and a 2-people MT-900 Forclaz, which is Decathlon's trekking sub-brand, and I never experienced a drop in it. No wonder why the 2-seconds is the go-to choice for homeless people all across Europe. If you have to live in it, at least, it won't let you down.
Hey Stéphane! Thank you so much for your comment and I'm really glad you liked this review! 🥰 Oh wow and I'm really glad that the Decathlon tents kept you dry! So far I've heard no bad reviews at all about the brand, really love it for its value for money and how reliable it is. Would you recommend the MT900, or anything else instead as a good backpacking tent? And yeah I was in Europe a while ago too and remember seeing so many Decathlon tents. I think every single one was Decathlon. Glad that at least they have access to great tents.
We went from a Dutch cotton tent (12 years old, the nylon webbing started to rot away - the fabric was still perfectly fine) to a Decathlon technical cotton, inflatable tent. We had to get this in a pinch, as otherwise our camping holiday would have been ruined. We were very surprised by its quality. This is a 5-person tunnel tent (the giant cotton tent was meant for 6. As our daughter is grown-up and started to work, we thought we could go a tad smaller), and really very comfortable. Seam-taping everywhere, no loose threads, and overall very well thought out.
Update on my MT-900, now a bit seasoned : last week-end I attended the Hellfest open air and we experienced a day of heavy rain, which allowed me to 1) see Metallica at like 20m from the barrier and 2) confirm the total waterproofness of the tent.
@@suzannecartwright6504 There is a little selection on the decathlon site. If I had to pick a festival tent for me I'd go for the fresh&black or the MT500 for those who value portability over freshness.
Great reviews and tips! I have used Ozark Trail products for 20 years. But I always pair them with an appropriately sized camping tarp whenever I expect rain or stiff winds. I have never had a wet tent. But this does bring up a point. The camping tarps I use are true camping tarps rather big box retailer tarps. I use the DD Hammock 3x3 and 4x4 tarps and this year I will add the 5x5 to my collection. When one adds the cost of these tarps my combined cost for any of my setups is $130-$220 which is not cheap. However I love the flexibility this combination allows since the independent tarp can be set up in multiple configurations over the tent without being limited by any preset guy/connection points. Plus in extremely foul weather the tarps take the beating rather than the tent poles and tent fabric. My tarps create a nearly bomb proof sanctuary and have withstood multi-day high wind rain events without failing. I do acknowledge the bigger the tent the harder the challenge it is to pair the tent with a tarp that can cover it entirely. In that case one may to accept “significant tarp coverage” as a compromise position.
Thank you so much Phil! 🥰 And yeah I agree it's a great move to pair a tarp with the Ozark tent. And thanks for the heads up on the DD Hammock and tarps! I've never heard of them 😅 But now they're on my radar! Have you used any other tarps though? I may want to get a few in the future for testing. And yeah your setups aren't cheap but they're flexible like you said, and works fantastic! 🤩
@@CampingGuidance The only other true camping tarp I’ve used in a serious real world situation is my Very first camping tarp-a Kelly Noah 12 (12 ft. In length). I used it to cover my hammock in a minor ice storm with 20 mph wind gusts. It worked like a champ! I stayed completely dry while my tent camping friends all got water inside their tents. There are a load of competing camping tarp products that others swear by as adamantly as I vouch for the DD Hammock product line. Aqua Quest, War Bonnet and Onetigis are just three of the many other companies that make excellent camping tarps. The best ones can be found in use in the hammock camping community because there, failure of your rain coverage is not an option!
@@PhilCherry3 oh yeah I've heard of the Kelty Noah tarp! I think I almost bought it once when it was on offer a while ago, but decided not to since I already had so much gear haha. Glad to know that it worked well! I'll make sure to get it next time to test. And thanks for the heads up on the other 3 brands too! Haven't heard of 2 of them, but I'll go do some research. Really appreciate your help here Phil! 🥰
@@CampingGuidance My recommendation is to try some of the competitors of the Kelty Noah Tarp series. I believe the Kelty tarps have been surpassed by others that have more tie out points, true square dimensions and better hydrostatic ratings.
@@PhilCherry3 Ah I see. Thanks so much for the words of wisdom Phil! 🥰 I really appreciate it, and I'll remember what you said when I'm doing a Best Camping Tarps video in the future!
Thank you so much Wayne! 🥰 Really glad that you liked the video! I changed up the format so hopefully that makes it more interesting than my last videos 😅
Thank you so much Luke! It really means a lot to me that you think so 🥰 I'm definitely hoping to get more camping gear videos out for 2024 😉 I hope you have a wonderful year ahead too! 🫶
I can also recommend Exped Orion II Extreme. I have spent 4 - 5 months camping in Greenland during summers with several heavy rain experiences. It is easy to get in and out of the tent without letting rain or drops into the inner tent. It is good for people up to 178 cm (5' 10").
Nice in-depth review! Right off the bat, the Teton is the way to go for camping. If this had a e-port, this would be a complete package for car camping. Cheers!
I've just had a disaster in a out sunny 2 room dome tent, very simler to one you tested with a partial fly sheet (gazebo style) with mainly single layer around the sides.. it leaked at the inverted stitching every where around all 4 sides.... Thank you for posting your results on these product's
great information. I've been using Coleman for some time. They aren't the best but I meticulously seal the seams inside and out put a tarp on inside that comes up just above the seams and I've weathered many rains without getting wet. Not into spending several hundred dollars on a tent. Live in the south, camp April through November.
Adding a tarp and seam sealing definitely helps! But some folks just want to use it out of the box without doing all that extra work I guess! I'm really glad Coleman has been holding up well for you! 🥰
Thank you so much for your reviews!! They were so helpful. I originally was going to buy a tent just based on how easy it was to set up but then thought about the biggest disappointment I have experienced in the past with tent camping…rain and water in my tent 😮!! I searched for waterproof and found your channel. Love it! I bought the North Face Wawona 6. Arrives in a few days. Already viewed your detailed video on this one. Excellent!!
Hey Richard! Yessss I'm finally back for the year! Thank you sooo much for waiting for so long and even taking the time to check up on me a few weeks back! 🥰 I plan to be more active on the channel this year! 🎉
We picked up 2 4 man Wawonas because of your review here. I hope it keeps us dry because we are using them in Seattle during our rainy season this October. Thanks for the great review. Subscribed and voted up.
Ahh! You're back with a video! Those were some good tips about the things to look for with regards to waterproofing. I can definitely see the benefits of the vestibule and wish the oztrail I had had both a vestibule and full fly. The partial fly was still fine though. Very informative as always, Liz!
Yessss I'm back!! Sorry to keep you waiting for so long, I know I disappeared for a few months there 😅 Thanks so much for still being here though, I really appreciate you! 🥰 I have a few more tent videos coming up, then after that I'm moving on to some other camping gear (lights, etc.) for a while! And yeah I really need a vestibule for rain cos one of my pet peeves is having wet stuff (especially shoes) in my inner tent 😅 Have you been camping more in your Oztrail since your last military trip? Hope you're doing well! 🥰
@CampingGuidance ooo I look forward to your next videos to compliment my other gear. I wish I had had a vestibule while I was on exercise cause I got so much mud in my tent haha. Unfortunately, my Oztrail got left behind in the truck so maybe someone else can get some use out of it haha. Just means I can watch your videos and try pick out a new tent! For now though I don't see too many more prolonged outdoor adventures for me.
@@empire-classfirenationbatt2691 Oh yeahhh mud in my tent is such a no no for me 🤣 Oh man I'm so sorry to hear about the oztrail though! Luckily you didn't pay too much for it, if I remember correctly. Let me know if you're on a hunt for a new tent! I'd love to help you out 🥰
@@empire-classfirenationbatt2691 Awww you're so sweet 🥰 I'm no expert now but hopefully next time! I think there's a lot I still don't know hahaha. I'll still do my best to help you out though! 🥰
I have several older Coleman tents and they all leak in the rain. I have determined that Coleman is best for fair weather campers that never camp in the rain. I recently replaced the Coleman tents with Decathlon tents. The last time I was out we were in a Decathlon Quechua MH100 3 person dome tent. There was light rain that lasted for hours and not a drop of water got into the tent nor were the walls even damp.
Thank you so much for the input! 🥰 And same here man! My Coleman tents were all pretty leaky, I was especially frustrated with their lack of seam taping. And Decathlon tents are definitely the way to go especially if you're camping in rain. I haven't heard a single bad word about them so far.
Love your reviews, I'd love to see this quality of review on the high end products that other channels schlep about while fishing for affiliate clicks.
Hey Timothy! Thank you so much for your kind words, that really means a lot! 🥰 And yeahhhh when I started getting back into camping a few years back, I couldn't find many good reviews at all too! Hopefully one day I get to cover all kinds of products, including the higher end ones 🥰
So happy your still doing your awsome reviews! The first review i saw from yir channel was the Camp Towels. It was so very well done, technical, and informative😃. This tent review continues to show yor commitment and attention to detail. Great job! 👍
Oh wow!!! You've been here since 2 years ago from the camp towels? Thank you so much JW! 🥰 It truly means the world to me that you're still here after all this time. Thank you!! And yeah I'm having loads of fun reviewing stuff, so I'm still going on with it 😂
WOW, you do an amazing job. Loved this video. I travel full time on My Royal Enfield Motorcycle. I have been using Wenzel Jack Pine 4 for 3 years. I'm on my 4th tent now. Because it's my home I don't care about price. I like the size 7x8 for me my gear and saddlebags, 8x8 would be nicer. Love the big back window, white fly to stay cool, mesh doesn't start until about 18 inches up for more privacy when not using the fly and draft protection when it chills down at night, 4 side pockets & overhead shelf, like the mud mat. I don't like the fiberglass poles, and the worst is the one for the door hoop, that always breaks right away. Their warranty is great, just don't like that I have to use it. Once I got a whole new tent because they were out of poles. The worst part is the floor is not tube type and as I learned from you it's an inverted seam that is not sealed and the leakage that I've had these two days of rain is why I found your excellent video. My previous Jack Pine 4s leaked and I tried liquid seam sealer but this time think I will try seam tape. Do you know of a tape you recommend? I really do like this tent including the small pack size for strapping to my motorcycle, I just wish they put a touch more quality in the product. If I get tired of bailing water I may try the Teton Ultra 4 as you have shown us. Thank you!
@@CampingGuidance Thank you for the reply. Not having a home so I can get the same products I get what ever is in the local stores. Walmart, Coghlans Seam Seal. Gear Aid has a lot of products. GEAR AID Seam Grip FC appears to be close to the product I have. Also thinking of using their GEAR AID Tenacious Tape Repair and Seam Tape to completely cover the inverted seam they use for the floor to wall seam.
A great review of tents and one I would reccomend to any would-be campers. I would like to see some reviews of backpacking tents too as this was my passion in my younger days, and still venture out occasionally in some 'seasonal' UK weather..
Oh that's great to hear! Thank you so much for the input! 🥰 Maybe I was just unlucky with both my Ozark tents that I had 🤔 Did you set up any tarps over the tent or do any waterproofing work on your own?
Wow! You smashed that one out of the ballpark! I was a bit skeptical at first. You've done such a good job with your reviews before, I was wondering what new info you could have included. As it turns out, not new info exactly, but the summary and points on what make tents great in rain makes this a great video. The funny thing is many people are super happy with their Ozark Trail tents. May be they were lucky, or may be they never experienced heavy rain and/or high wind, but I personally agree with you that budgets tents are inexpensive for a reason. That said, cheaper tents can still work if a tarp is put over them (set up like a shelter, not draping one over the tent), so long as the ground is not flooded. That is in fact a quite popular thing to do in N America. One good thing of that set up is that you can pack up the tent in the rain and don't have to deal with a soggy went tent back home. Out of the five tents in the video, my favourite would be the Wawona 6. However, spacious as it is, I want more enclosed space because I don't like bugs in my tent and stuff, and the open bottom vestibule does not help. In addition, I want really easy and quick set up, so my top choice at this point remains to be Gazelle tents, even though they are not the best in heavy rain in terms of the small rain fly.
Aww thank you so much as always! 🥰 I'm really glad that you enjoyed this review too even though I'm literally just collating all the rain tests that I did in the past. I have 3 more "Best" tent collations that my editor is working on now, so hopefully it's not too boring with not a whole lot of new info 😅 Bear with me! I'm a bit bored too so I'm currently testing camping lights and I wanna get into that this year 😁 And yeah!! I can't figure out whether it's them being lucky, or me being unlucky with both the Ozark tents I had 😅 Oh and yes thank you so much for the input on the tarps! That's a really great idea. Do you have any recommendations for tarps you like? Right now I only have one from Decathlon, nothing else. I'm eyeing a Snow Peak one but they're so expensive. Oh yeah the open bottom vestibule of the Wawona isn't great. I had so many tiny little bugs in the vestibule hiding from the rain 😅 And yeah I do think Gazelle is a great easy setup tent. I hope to get in touch with the company sooner or later to get more gear to test 😁
@@CampingGuidance Can't wait to see your reviews on camping lights. I have been bitten by the Coleman naphtha (a.k.a. white gas) camping gears bug, both stoves and lamps. I have acquired a couple of each and can't wait to use them on my next camping trip. It would be fun if you can find and do a "review" on one of those nostalgic old camping lamps or stoves (not necessarily Coleman). As for tarps, I try to get something that is of decent quality, but not the expensive types that some backpackers use. So no brand-named stuff, but whatever I can find in local stores like Walmart or Canadian Tire (I suppose you can guess the latter is "indigenous" to Canada 🤣). I would just need it for a few things: give shelter from heat, keep tree tar and bird poop from the tent, and not have to pack a soggy wet tent. I haven't put one up so far because it has not been necessary. Erecting a tent under a tarp shelter also overcomes the shortcomings of a small rain fly. We also use tarps to create a kitchen and dining area when we have a big group.
@@chomp54321 Hahaha you may have to wait a while for it, it's taking me longer than expected to get them all tested right now 😅 But thank you in advance for always being here! Omg that's so cool!! Tbh I've only ever used LED camping lights all my life HAHAHA but a gas/oil/old-school lantern definitely sounds awesome! Can I trouble you to send me some of your recommendations? I'd love to check them out. Ah I see! I'm surprised no-brand tarps work well for you guys. In Singapore I used to use no-brand tents many years ago, and they sucked hahaha. Our no-brand stuff here isn't great cos we don't have a big camping market. Oh well. Thanks for letting me know though! 🥰
Happy new year Liz, great to see you back with a new vid. I reckon the Teton Sports tent to do really well. It's very affordable and has a very manageable size compared to the Wawona 6. As always nice to hear your thoughts on these tents. Also, nice to see the new graphics incorporated in the vid, cheers.
Happy new year to you too Wer Kar! 🥰 Thanks for sticking around despite me being MIA for months hahaha 😅 I appreciate you! And yes! I wish they made it in a size bigger than a 4P though, I usually like tents that I can stand up in. And yes you're totally right! The textured background looks a lot better than the sprites from the other time. Thank you! 🥰
@@CampingGuidance Totally agree in terms of size. No 4 person tent has ever comfortably fit 4 people. Even my STS Ikos feels crammed with me and my panniers in it, let alone another person🤣🤣 You're welcome, always up for constructive feedback, cheers.
@@Werkar27 Hahah tell me about it! Sometimes I can use a 6-person tent for 2 people, sooo I guess we need a lot more space than we expect 🤣 Thank you my friend! I really appreciate all your support and constructive feedback. I welcome more anytime you have it! 😉
@@CampingGuidance Damn, a 6 person tent for 2 people, now that's proper camping 🤣🤣 But totally agreed, especially for us moto campers, space and weight matter a lot. Lifting a fully loaded toppled over motorbike can do your back in. You're being too hard on yourself Liz, you've improved heaps and the quality of your vids has gone up exponentially. Ooooh thanks for the suggestion JW! I've got a couple of those, so I'll get around to doing that next time for sure! Over the next year I've got my hands full with different types of camping lights though 😅 Sorry for the wait :(
You made a good video about these tents. Much better than most product review videos. However I don’t share the same opinion about the North Face Wawona 6. I have that tent and I believe it fails in regards to being waterproof due to the short rain fly. I love its huge vestibule and the fact that I can stand up in it; I’m 6’-3”. But I have witnessed serious moisture entering the tent either through the floor or side that isn’t covered with the rain fly. Oh, and I do have the foot print, but I have found the floor quite wet. I believe it’s due to the short rain fly.
Hey Tristram! Thank you for the kind words! 🥰 Oh man I'm so sorry to hear about your experience with the Wawona though. And yeah I do agree that the rain fly can be much longer. Was there a lot of wind when you were camping? Perhaps that could have blown the rain in?
I always enjoy watching your videos, Liz....so many choices out there and I appreciate your quality reviews . Your videography and editing are top notch, too! I had a chance to use my Core 6P a few times last summer/fall and it worked out great! Hope you are doing well. :)
Aww thank you so much!! 🥰 It really means a lot that you're still here watching all my videos! I hope to step up with more videos in 2024 cos I was lazy last year haha. I also got a new editor so that's his hard work right there :) I edited some, and he polished everything up haha. And I'm glad that your Core has been doing well for you! I hope you get more chances to use it in the upcoming summer 😁 I'm doing great! What about you?
@@Moondog9322 So nice to hear back from you too! 🥰 Thank you for the reply! Oh man I'm sorry it's so cold. I may get back into it though, for this channel! What's your Facebook account?
@@CampingGuidance I was wondering if you have any experience with camping stoves, and which are best. Also, what do you do with all your camping gear? Guess what? It's cold here still. lol Snowed some last night.
@@Moondog9322 Hmm so far I've only had a little bit of experience with Coleman stoves, but I was running through fuel like crazy, which made me feel not environmentally friendly. I've since stopped using them, but I'm not sure how they compare to other stoves at the moment :( Sorry about that! When camping in Singapore we don't actually use stoves much, cos we usually tend to use the provided BBQ pits to cook our food. HAHA so far I'm still holding on to so much camping gear. I should probably sell them away to raise more funds to buy more gear though, but I've been too lazy to take photos and put them all up 🤣 Oh man I'm sorry about the cold, I hope you're holding up okay! When will it start getting warmer? Oh btw! I got a notification that you wanted to send me a private message, but I can't find that comment anymore, weird. Can you drop me an email to send me a private message? :)
Thank you. You do and EXCELLENT review, and you cover the most important features that campers are interested in. I would love to know how the Wawona compares to the Big Agnes big house 6. They seem comparable. I know folks that have the Big Agnes, but I especially love the vestibule on the Wawona 6. Am I making a mistake passing on the Big Agnes? Thanks
Thank you so much! I like the Wawona for the vestibule though, that's the main reason why I bought it. If it's not such a big thing for you, the Big Agnes could be a good choice. But I'd go for the Wawona maybe I'm biased hahaha
I would love to see you test the CORE Large Multi Room Tent for Family with Full Rainfly, as it is by far the only "Instant" tent that I found to have a full rainfly.
yeah I know right?! I would love to get it too but it's not available in my local Amazon. Maybe one day! I wish more instant tents came with fuller rainflies haha.
Hey Brennan! Thank you so much for your kind words, they really mean a lot to me 🥰 Hmm I used to have a Kelty Salida 2, and I really liked the quality. It's not exactly 'high-end' like The North Face here, but it's not exactly budget like Coleman either. It's somewhere in the middle, perhaps similar to Alps Mountaineering? Does that help? I'm currently saving up to buy some Kelty tents to make a Best Kelty Tents video, but I probably won't get to testing them till the end of the year sadly :(
Hmm I don't think that any tent below a 4P would allow you to stand up in them sadly, I've not experienced that before. And most instant tent (with the push-button poles - I think this is what you're referring to) don't come below a 4P too :(
This is by far the most informative channel about camping tents, I love the content, and help the guidance into choosing which tent to get, but I have a question. Might you know a tent that is waterproof and instant ? Under 400$
Thank you so much for the kind words, that really means a lot to me 🥰 Hmm how waterproof do you need the tent to be? The best one I've got so far is the Gazelle T4, but it's not as waterproof as the ones I covered in this video.
I bought the Wawona 6 largely in part because of your videos! Got an amazing deal around Thanksgiving holiday sales…… It’s all good being rain proof but without the vestibule like the Wawona 6 - good luck! I like the quick set up of the gazelle T4 - since I already have the Wawona 6, I’m wondering how my Wawona rainfly would fit over the gazelle and provide the amazing vestibule option??!! Thanks for another great video!
Aww thank you so much for another lovely comment and also for your support with the Wawona! 🥰 Was it a 30% sale? I vaguely recall there being a sale then but can't remember the details haha. And YESSS the vestibule is sooo important for wet weather! I really hate soggy wet stuff in my tent. HAHAH I'm not sure the rainfly would fit but that's a great thought! 😂 OH! But Gazelle has the screen room option if you're interested in that! I don't have it but it looks soooo good.
@@CampingGuidance it was listed on sale back in November for 245$ and then another 15% with Active Junky. I almost felt guilty buying it for such a low price! 😂👌🏼 Yeah the vestibule is a must in the rain …. To be able to get out of the rain and adjust everything before entering the tent all wet, etc is a huge benefit. I’m still interested in my idea of the Wawona rain fly over the gazelle T4. 🤪 I’m not really fond of all the Velcro on the t4 plus entry way!

@@22norac Ohhh it's nice to hear that! Maybe I've just had bad luck with both of mine. What kind of rain did you have it in, and how long did it last, if you don't mind me asking? 😊
@@CampingGuidance well hello I wasn't expecting to get a comment from you. I shouldn't have been so vague with my comment. I bought a full rainfly three season Ozark tent model WT201212. I will say Ozark trail doesn't have the best quality control but it's been good so far. I have had it in a light rain and it did not leak. I then had it up when there was heavy rain and I did get some leaking from the loops that hold the tent door up when left open. For the amount of rain and not having done anything to the tent I think it was very little leakage. I did have a tarp under my tent. I have now seam sealed only the loops and will test it out again when I get some rain expected next week. I am short and this text is just for me and my two kids, it might be too small for you.
@@22norac Hey Nora! Ah I do my best to reply when I can, although it may take some time haha. Thank you so much for the reply as well, and I appreciate you sharing your experience with your Ozark trail! I think your better experience with the Ozark could be because of the full rainfly! Both of mine had tiny tiny rainflies so that didn't help at all, and drenched the entire tent very quickly. I'll try to see if I can get full rainfly Ozarks tested in the future! 😁

Aww thank you!! It's not super common to have all that rain, and I think this video was like 2 years in the works HAHA. I have rain like that only a few days per year, so that's a lot of waiting. And yes Kodiak is on my radar, but I can't afford it now though :( Next time for sure though!
eh....great review..... from England, hopefully I can purchase a tent from your reviews, if not, hopefully I can find a as good as helpful full and easy to follow review as yours....thanxs....👍
@@CampingGuidance That really depends on what you are doing. They have a wide range of tents from expedition arctic tents to a lightweight trekking pole tent. I have the Unna, the Allak, the Namatj and the Anaris. All are good for backpacking or climbing in high winds, snow or rain, except the Anaris. That is their trekking pole tent and suitable for summer use and provides excellent ventilation and flexible uses.
@@davehoover8853 Thanks so much for the suggestions and recommendations! Actually I don't do any expeditions or backpacking at the moment 😅 Do you know if they have family car camping tents?
Hey you're most welcome! 🥰 It really means a lot to me that you liked the review. I found that the third day for me was a little damp, but I hope it keeps you dry enough! Let me know how it goes!
Hey there, back to the grind! Our camping trip was a blast, but it had its fair share of craziness. The first night was pleasant, with gentle rain. We opened/hanged the vestibule door using two poles, creating a cozy shelter. We even managed to enjoy the view from the bed. The second day and night were intense. There was some rain, but the real challenge was the relentless wind that blew throughout the day. I took action, staking the tent securely in every direction to prevent it from taking off. I invested in 12 MSR Groundhog tent stakes, adding them to the ones that came with the tent, and also picked up some sturdy rope stakes for extra security. By the third day, the rain and wind had intensified. We had to close the vestibule door tightly due to the strong winds. I couldn't shake the fear that our tent might fly away and ruin the trip. Despite the anxiety-inducing weather, my girlfriend and I were grateful for the reliability of our tent. Your testing of the Wawona 6 tent assured us that it could handle rain without leaking, but the wind posed a new challenge. I considered staying awake to be on guard against any sudden gusts. We really thought we were in the middle of a storm. (Going home, the road was closed for a moment because there was a rock slide!). On the last day before checkout, there was no rain but everything felt damp. The stakes were still firmly planted in the ground, but I'd recommend investing in higher-quality stakes like I mentioned above for future trips. Despite its size, packing up the tent took some time, but we appreciated the spaciousness it provided. We were able to move around and cook inside comfortably, even when it was raining outside. We were pleasantly surprised that the tent poles held up well against the strong winds. Once home, we made sure to hang the wet top cover and footprint to dry. Overall, it was a camping experience unlike any other, especially due to the intense wind. I'm grateful for the reliability of our tent-it truly saved the day. If I were to make any changes or recommendations, opting for the Wawona 6 instead of the 8 might be worth considering if space isn't a priority. It would be more manageable, especially in windy conditions. But overall, I highly recommend the Wawona tent! It kept us dry and comfortable throughout our 4-day, 3-night (we extended it) trip to Big Sur! Thank you for testing and helping find the right tent for us! My GF loves camping now even with the storm we experienced! (To all, let me know if you have any questions!)
@@HDMOVIECREATOR2012 Hey! Welcome back! 🥰 Aww I'm really happy to hear that the Wawona was able to keep you dry! Oh wow the wind definitely sounds insanely crazy. I wish I could have been there to test out my tent too! 😅 Don't think I have such crazy winds where I am at all haha 😅 But it was a really smart move to go with the groundhog stakes! They're definitely some of the best stakes around. And wow, can I just ask - did any of the tent poles bend at all, or were they totally fine? I'm curious about that. Also, I think there might be upcoming sales on the Wawona 6 if you want to exchange your 8 for that instead! I'm not sure exactly when, but REI should be having one within the next couple of months (that's what I heard). Really happy to hear that your gf loves camping now! The right gear and the right experience is definitely a great way to convert a non-camper 😉
None of the tent poles got bent, despite the high winds! The vestibule pole took a beating, but surprisingly, it didn't get bent. I'm really pleased with this tent. While the 6-person option was tempting for just the two of us, we opted for the 8-person version. This way, we can use it for family trips and enjoy the extra space. It's handy for setting up a short table for meals or other activities. The colored poles make assembly much easier, although setting up the vestibule still requires a bit of time! You should compare tent stakes, kitchen gear, food, coolers, pillows, etc because like many, we really appreciate the details you put in each video! Thanks again! @@CampingGuidance
@@HDMOVIECREATOR2012 Thank you so much for the update again! 🥰 I'm so glad to hear that the poles didn't bend at all. I heard that the newer version (the one that we have) has better poles than the previous one (the single-walled one), so that is probably why it didn't bend. Ah, the 8P will definitely give you more space. That makes sense. The 6P didn't feel like a 6P tent because of the small base area hahaha. Awww I really appreciate that and all your comments and kind words 🥰 I'm currently testing out a bunch of lights, then after that fans. I definitely wanna get through to stakes, kitchen gear, coolers, and more too in the future! I hope I can push out more content faster too cos right now I'm quite slow 😅
Aww that's so sweet Raul! Thank you so much 🥰 I personally never like listening to my own voice and sometimes I wish it could be different, but your vote of confidence in me really helps me out 🥰
Thank you so much! 🥰 It really means a lot to me that you like my reviews. As for SUV/car tents, I don't plan to do those anytime soon unfortunately. Maybe within a few years when I have time and money to go to the US for RVing and camping, but it's just not a thing where I am (Singapore) :(
Hey Amir! I think I replied your question in another one of your comments (but I'm not sure if you received it cos sometimes UA-cam just disappears some comments zzz). No real experience with either, but I'd go with the MSR for a higher quality tent!
thank you again Rob! 🥰 And yes I do wanna test that eventually, but not within the next year :( Got my hands full right now with all kinds of camping lights 😅 I'm hoping to get it done maybe the year after!
Hello. I'm from Asia, too. And I've seen in some countries that they use such as naturehike and vidalido brand of tents during their camping, did you or do u have any plan of reviewing those brands mentioned especially the vidalido poon saan tent? Btw, thank you for d excellent and thorough review! 😊
Hi greetings from Singapore! 🥰 I've seen that Naturehike and Vidalido are VERY popular in Singapore too, so I'm thinking of testing those out in the future! No plans to do so anytime soon though ;(
What in the world is SHOULDER SEASON? I've never heard of it. Does it mean your going to be comfortable with bare shoulders? Does it mean that you can backpack everything in easily?
@CampingGuidance hi. Thanks again for the great advice. Any reason why you did not include the Caddis Rapid 6 in this Review? How does it compare to these in the review?
Hi Steven! You're welcome, and thanks so much for watching all my videos! 🥰 Hmm, well Caddis has really good rain protection for an instant cabin tent, but compared to these here, it's a leaky tent. Cabin tents in my experience don't tend to have very good waterproofing :(
@@CampingGuidancehi. I really wanted to get the Caddis or the gazelle t4 but because the top is open and vented I don't think it will keep me warm in very cold weather (20 degrees fahrenheit). Any other good popup 6p tents that do great in the rain and cold weather that are under $300?
@@stevenscop Hey again Steven! Hmmm if you need a tent that'll keep you warm in the cold weather and does well in rain... I don't think any of them will really do that well for you. I think you'll definitely be better off with a regular tent with a full rainfly instead, sadly :(
Hey, I live in southern louisiana (hot, humid, rainy weather) and I’m new to camping lol. I’m trying to decide between the Teton Mountain Ultra 2 person tent and the Naturehike Mongar 2 person tent. The weight of the Teton (7lbs) is my only concern because I do intend on backpacking soon as well. From what I can tell, other than weight, they are pretty much the same tent. I’ve heard wonderful things about both companies, but I have seen some negative thoughts on Naturehike’s product durability. Any advice?
I haven't tested any of Naturehike's products yet, but they are very popular in Asia, where I live. I've heard only good things about them from my friends though, so I think it's worth a shot since you do intend on backpacking. The Teton might be a little too heavy.
Hey Luis! Are you looking for a waterproof tent? What are your priorities when looking for a tent? I will be able to give you a better recommendation with more details. The North Face Wawona 6 would fit a couple and 2 toddlers well though! Strictly a 3-season summer tent though.
Thank you so much for the comments and input as always Filipe! 🥰 And don't be jealous but the Easy is only now S$150 in Singapore! 😁 But still your price is wayyy better than in the US. No idea why so expensive haha.
@@filipemmarques WHAT!!! I didn't know that!! I threw my old broken Quechua 2S Fresh and Black away 😭 But then again it was in so bad condition maybe Decathlon won't accept it hahaha
@@CampingGuidance I think I already told you that somewhere in the past 😅 They accept, they have 3 levels: bad, more or less and good. Of course the good condition give more. Despite that they have the 2 years guaranted, you can return your products and if they are in very good conditions they return the value you pay 😁. At least is how it works here in Portugal 😁
@@filipemmarques Sorry about that Filipe! Omg I think I must have read your message wrongly, I thought that you got the voucher only because your tent was defective! Didn't realize that you could also get when you trade your tent in 😅😅😅 Oh wow and you can return your products in good condition for the full amount? Even after using it maybe like once or twice and it's not brand new anymore? 😲
Aww thank you so much! It means a lot to me that you like my videos, and you're always commenting on them 🥰 Ah nope sadly I haven't reviewed the North Star. I get the same Coleman products as the US (because I buy from Amazon), and if I'm not wrong, the North Star might be an Australia/New Zealand product instead? 🤔
6:00 you can fix all those and turn a cheap tent into an expensive quality waterproof tent by using $12 or less seam sealant. choose the sealant based on your tent's material.
I'm a camping newbie, so please excuse me if this may be a dumb question: Wouldn't it be best to put a tarp over the tent in addition to the rainfly if you know that there's a chance to rain? By the tests you did, I think the best thing to do is not to directly expose the rainfly to the rain, and just use that as a last line of defence, right?
Hey feel free to ask any question that you may have! No question is a dumb question. And yes! A tarp over the tent in addition to the rainfly is DEFINITELY a great way to increase waterproofing. But the thing is not a lot of people want to buy another piece of gear, and it's another thing to set up, so that depends on your personal preference.
@@CampingGuidance I mean, if you know there's a good chance that it would rain, and a tarp just folds up nicely into a small pouch, why risk getting wet, right?

Awww thank you again Cheryl! 🥰🥰🥰
You have, by far, the best tent review on UA-cam, I learned so much. Thankyou
Thank you so much Jimmy! I'm really glad you liked this video and the rain tests as well! 🥰
I just stumbled onto my new favorite gear reviewer. Finally someone who actually stress tests outdoor products. You just earned a new subscriber!
Thank you so much William! I appreciate the comment and sub! 🥰
Is there a source for these European brand tents for campers in the U.S.?
@@suzannecartwright6504 There is a little selection on the decathlon site. If I had to pick a festival tent for me I'd go for the fresh&black or the MT500 for those who value portability over freshness.
I have to say that you're channel and TheOutdoorGearReview are my go to, especially for tent reviews. Thank you once again for your time spent sharing
Aww thank you so much!! 🥰 I really appreciate you and hope to get out more reviews in the future!

Cheers!
Thank you so much Ed! 🥰 And yeah it's such an underrated tent! Sadly none of the tents here have e-ports :( Wish more tents had them too!

Excellent!!

Can’t beat the north face tents I’ve owned the minibus 2 had it for over 10 years never let me down and super easy to put up and light weight to carry
Thank you!
Thank you so much! 🥰 I've never used tape though :( Only the liquid seam sealer. Which brand did you use? I typically like the one from Gear Aid!
We live in Kansas and get some really good storms. Our Ozark trail tents have never failed us in the high winds and rains.
I'm a bit bored too so I'm currently testing camping lights and I wanna get into that this year 😁
And yeah!! I can't figure out whether it's them being lucky, or me being unlucky with both the Ozark tents I had 😅
Oh and yes thank you so much for the input on the tarps!
I just bought a 2-person decathlon 2 second waterproof tent at Wal-Mart for $40 on clearance. It's amazing. Absolute steal.
Wow that's awesome! $40 for brand new is insane 😲 Glad you love it!
Use seam sealer each and every time. Most leaks come from the seams. Don't forget about condensation buildup.
Thanks for another great video! Keep them coming please
Thank you so much! And yes I definitely got loads more planned for 2024!
We're always there to just nudge you in the right direction.
Waiting for your camping lights reviews to drop so I can get one. Tired of just using my headtorch or atleast that's my excuse to get a new one😂😂

Aww thank you so much Wer Kar! It really means a lot that you're seeing some improvements 🥰 I appreciate all your nudges! 😉
Oooo what kind of lights are you looking for! I might be a while, so if you need them soon, I can try my best to help! My first video is only on rechargeable lanterns, not sure if that might be helpful for you!
Very detail test and review, thanks for the effort for showing us. May i suggest you test the Snow Peak Amenity Dome and Land Breeze Pro series as well :)
If you haven't yet done one, i would be very excited to see you do a review on outdoor water filters, simply bcuz yor attention to detail is on-another-level😃👍
Ooooh thanks for the suggestion JW! I've got a couple of those, so I'll get around to doing that next time for sure! Over the next year I've got my hands full with different types of camping lights though 😅 Sorry for the wait :(
Excellent review! I have the Wawona 6P tent, have used it several times and highly recommend it. Cheers!
Thank you so much for sharing Tom! I guess great minds think alike 😉
Perhaps that could have blown the rain in?
ive got 2 naturehike tents, the cloud up 3 and the mongar 2, both are extreamly good waterproof tents, good quality for a budget/mid range option.
Thanks so much for the suggestions Lee! I'll see what I can do to update this video with those tents in the future 🥰
I always enjoy watching your videos, Liz....so many choices out there and I appreciate your quality reviews . Your videography and editing are top notch, too! I had a chance to use my Core 6P a few times last summer/fall and it worked out great! Hope you are doing well. :)

I also got a new editor so that's his hard work right there :) I edited some, and he polished everything up haha. And I'm glad that your Core has been doing well for you! I hope you get more chances to use it in the upcoming summer 😁 I'm doing great! What about you?
@@CampingGuidance So nice to hear back from you! I'm doing well, though it's very cold today. Ugh. Are you on Facebook?
@@Moondog9322 So nice to hear back from you too! 🥰 Thank you for the reply! Oh man I'm sorry it's so cold. If you ever think about relocating, Singapore has all-year round summer 😉 And no sadly I don't have any social media :( I deleted my Facebook account a few years ago cos it wasn't good for my overall mental health.
I should probably sell them away to raise more funds to buy more gear though, but I've been too lazy to take photos and put them all up 🤣
Oh man I'm sorry about the cold, I hope you're holding up okay!
Spectacular work! Thank you.
This review is super helpful! Did you set up these tents with footprints / tarp?
Your reviews are so helpful and insightful! I would really love your opinion on Kelly tents, they look promising but there are not many good reviews.
I'm currently saving up to buy some Kelty tents to make a Best Kelty Tents video, but I probably won't get to testing them till the end of the year sadly :(
Helpful review, thanks😊
Thank you so much Ridha! I'm glad you liked this 🥰
Thats great but I want a stand up tent with push-button poles. I loved the Coleman 4 person but I dont need one that large.
Hmm I don't think that any tent below a 4P would allow you to stand up in them sadly, I've not experienced that before. And most instant tent (with the push-button poles - I think this is what you're referring to) don't come below a 4P too :(
Greatly appreciated these tests. Thank you and well done!

Brilliant video - thank you!
The Kelty Tanglewood 2 is $69 and outperforms anything Teton makes. The North Face Storm Break 2 is even better, but at about twice the price on sale.
Thanks so much for the suggestions James! I've heard quite a lot about the Stormbreak so I do wanna get that!
I bought the Wawona 6 largely in part because of your videos! Got an amazing deal around Thanksgiving holiday sales……
It’s all good being rain proof but without the vestibule like the Wawona 6 - good luck!
Yeah the vestibule is a must in the rain …. To be able to get out of the rain and adjust everything before entering the tent all wet, etc is a huge benefit.
I’m still interested in my idea of the Wawona rain fly over the gazelle T4. 🤪
I’m not really fond of all the Velcro on the t4 plus entry way!
@@EPH113 Omg that's such a great price! I've never seen it at that price 😲 And did you tell me this before? I don't know why but it sounds so familiar 😅 I'm not sure if it's you, or another one of my viewers hahaha 😅 Sorry about that!

If you want a bombproof tent try a Hilleberg. Another level of protection rain, wind, snow or any large storm. Expensive, but never fail.
Thanks so much for the input Dave! Which Hilleberg tent would you recommend?
We’re going to Big Sur next weekend with 3 full day of rain with the wawona 8 tent lol. Thanks for the review on the 6!

@@aussiequad148 I'm looking forward to that! Thank you so much 🥰 I hope it arrives soon!
Fantastic video
6:00 you can fix all those and turn a cheap tent into an expensive quality waterproof tent by using $12 or less seam sealant. choose the sealant based on your tent's material.
That's definitely true! 🥰 But some people don't want to do that though, they prefer to use it out of the box haha
@@CampingGuidance you're right but being Asian that I am. I will do this even with my expensive tent to give extra life to it😆
Do you prefer pop up or traditional tents?
I can set up tents kind of quick, so I prefer traditional tents! They're easier to repair when the poles break haha
@@dcfavorite Yup that's definitely true!
the monkey shot at 10:09 was fire ngl
Hahahaha I always have monkeys visiting my house 🤣🤣🤣 I love that shot as well. Glad you liked it too! 🥰
Awesome video. Loves it. New subscriber here.
Good video, but have you never tried Naturehike tents? half the price and actually waterproof
Currently don't have any Naturehike tents :( But thanks for the suggestion, I'll definitely keep that in mind when updating this video!
Great video. I love your accent.
Aww thank you so much Todd! I appreciate that 🥰
What about waterproof, durable family size tents (8+ persons)?
The Wawona comes in an 8, and I've heard good things about it from my viewers!
Time to test the Durston X-Mid series
Oooh thank you for the suggestion!
