I developed gout very soon after switching from regular sugar to XYLITOL, an alcohol sugar, this winter. After I almost lost one large toe, I found after the fact that Xylitol increases the incidence of gout by 800%. It triggered an autoimmune illness that even 2 rounds of prednisone has not gotten under control. I've been using apple cider vinegar, tart cherry concentrate, ginger and other supplements that are supposed to help. Some like curcumin and black pepper extract interfere significantly with a leukemia medicine I take daily. With that medication, Colcachine presents a 60% chance of hospitalization and a 25% chance of death. Epdom salt foot soaks are doing nothing so I'm soaking them in warm activated charcoal soaks to prevent infection from the broken skin. My toe has actually split. My MD referred me to a podiatrist whose staff ignored the referral. As a result, I'm having to wait 6 weeks to get an appointment. Allopurinol helps prevent the crystals from being formed but doesn't help dissolve out the uric acid crystals already there in the joint.

@lancebrasher8452 Amazon sell a uric acid tester. It's a little electronic device that reads a drop of your blood. It's very useful for tracking trend.
I have had chronic gout. I found a low carb , low oxalate, diet. The best with a lot of water. Low carb morning no more than 20 gross carbs total a day. Even broccoli can be hard to eat due to the high oxalate levels. Had something with mashed potatoes on the side . The high carb and oxalate level caused a flair up. Carbs is in almost everything.
I had bad gout in my twenties arising they said, from the extreme heat 100+degf that I worked in down the mine. I would drink up to 16 pints water in a shift and it all got sweated out, and rarely needed a pee. That messed with the kidneys getting rid of waste, including uric acid. Moved to a cooler mine and the problem stopped. For the next 30 years, I thought gout was 10/10 painful .... until I got Severe Acute Pancreatitis... that is a whole new pain scale. 4 months in Hospital and after major pancreas surgery, I have had to take digestive enzymes made from Pig Pancreases, and it is the high purine content in those, that sparked off a new series of attacks. Took a while to identify the cause, but after a couple of months taking Allopurinol the problem has gone ...... for now at least ;
Alupurinol did nothing for me. I couldn't walk at all, most pain ever in my life (age 69) then barley grass powder was suggested for me to take. One tablespoon daily in the morning as a breakfast smoothie with avocado, milk a little honey maybe a raw egg and sometimes a banana, 7 months pain free, not a touch of gout since then . It works for me, I hope this helps for others, XX
Thanks so much for the content. It's very helpful. Would love to hear your take on polyphenols (coffee, raw cocoa ....) and it's effect on uric acid levels in the body. I'm really curious to hear about how often or how much and when (before or after a bad meal) to ingest, similar to your piece on 'water'. These details are difficult to find online.

Colchicine and 5 litres of water minimum daily when suffering an attack. Its a long process but it didn't just happen overnight. Every normal day you should have 3 litre bottle of water and finish it. The other thing is stress. Easy to say it but don't put yourself in a stress position. I am sure it contributes to my attacks. Lately I have been gout free because I don't eat sugary drinks and food. I have cut out margarine and have butter and olive oil and lard for cooking chips Oh yes Just eat less
How about lemon favour sparking water or plain sparkling water both without any sugar or any sugar substitute? Also sparkling water have CO2 in it will that increase uric acid?

Indomethacin is a great anti-inflammatory, to relieve the swelling in The joint. Colchichine puts out the “fire” the terrible pain. Water is key!! Alcohol, red meat, sardines, anchovies, bad!
I was having severe gout attacks. I had to decide what food I was consuming the most of -- and had consumed the most of during my life. It was beef, hands down.; lots of beef since I was a child. I cut out ALL beef and about 80-90% of my attacks vanished. They say meat doesn't cause gout but it did for me, so that's total BS. I still have gout to some degree but not the horrible attacks that I used to have. Now, I drink a lot of water as well as one to two cans of seltzer a day (a trick I learned from a friend in France to break up crystals), lost weight, walk more and increase vegetables in my diet. I eat small dinners earlier than 6pm of mostly vegetables. Colchicine is great as well as indomethacin for relief.
I found it wasn’t the beef, but what I was having with the beef - bread, rice, noodles, potatoes along with dessert or beer. Meat and salad works well for me and now I take no medications.

I think what he was trying to say was put the ice pack just above where the flare up is. Such as if the flare is in your toes, put the ice pack just above that at the ankle joint. I believe he discussed this a little better and more in depth in another video.
I tried every one of these remedies (except for the prednisone), some of these reduced pain and swelling, but it never went away. I cured my gout 100% when I put 1/3 of a teaspoon of borax in my socks each morning, a side effect is that your feet and shoes stay fresh.
Haven't found what causes mine yet. VA hospital is horrible. Went to emergency room on crutches since both feet were so swollen I couldn't walk. VA ER Doctor said "why did you come here, this is an emergency room and it's for actual emergencies!" I yelled at him and said "I can't f**king walk, isn't that an emergency!" And then said "The VA help line nurse told me to come here!" They finally gave me a shot and sent me home after waiting 3 hours. I quit going since they never help and it's been sixteen years with this issue and they just say go home and rest. I started drinking warm lemon juice first thing in morning and it seems to help shorten the time it affects me. Used to be almost two weeks of pain and now it's about 4 to 5 days. Outside doctor's said my blood test show I have rampant inflammation in my body and can't figure it why. Oh well I'll keep trying things and hopefully figure it out on my own since I'm not rich enough to keep paying private doctor bills and VA hasn't tried figuring it out in last 16 years.

I’m having a wretched Christmas Day gout attack after eating a ton of shrimp, red meat, bacon and alcohol over the last week. I was practically screaming from the pain. I used a mega-high powered body massager that someone gifted me - 😮- I rammed that thing in high right into the bottom of my toe joint with an ice gel pack for padding. I took advil, drank a ton of water, soaked in hot water then ice. within 30 minutes the OMG sever pain is mostly gone. don’t know if this was safe or not-I didn’t care at the time I was screaming in pain. I’m curious if this is safe or if there are any studies on using intense massage to break up those crystals.
I hope it feels better, another option that can work well is an epsom salt bath combined with anti-inflammatory medication, thank you and have a happy new year! 😊🙏

@@ToeJam161oh god trying to walk something that took me 3 seconds to get to the bathroom took 2 minutes. The first battle is getting up out of bed. Also forget about sleeping under the covers because the blanket makes everything hurt. I had to sleep on my stomach with my feet hanging over the end of the bed only way that didn’t hurt.

Listen man, take a teaspoon of Baking Soda (two and half if youre currently having a flare up), take two teaspoons of apple cider vinegar, and take a teaspoon of lemon juice, and mix it well in a full cup or bottle of water. Drink that once to twice a week and I guarantee you gout will never come back and you can still eat and drink whatever you want.

Question: What are the name of blood tests you recommended ? What is best type of Doctor one should go to for this problem?
Rheumatologist
@@phillipsmom6252 Thanks!
Uric acid level. I test mine at home every day.
@@Perchpole you can do uric acid level tests at home? Is it something you pick up at the pharmacy?
@lancebrasher8452 Amazon sell a uric acid tester. It's a little electronic device that reads a drop of your blood. It's very useful for tracking trend.
I have had chronic gout. I found a low carb , low oxalate, diet. The best with a lot of water. Low carb morning no more than 20 gross carbs total a day. Even broccoli can be hard to eat due to the high oxalate levels.
Had something with mashed potatoes on the side . The high carb and oxalate level caused a flair up.
Carbs is in almost everything.
Carbs is huge fore sure! Maybe you are sensitive to oxalates?
Great call, on the low carb. What would you consider oxalate options that you have found to avoid?
I had bad gout in my twenties arising they said, from the extreme heat 100+degf that I worked in down the mine. I would drink up to 16 pints water in a shift and it all got sweated out, and rarely needed a pee. That messed with the kidneys getting rid of waste, including uric acid. Moved to a cooler mine and the problem stopped.
For the next 30 years, I thought gout was 10/10 painful .... until I got Severe Acute Pancreatitis... that is a whole new pain scale. 4 months in Hospital and after major pancreas surgery, I have had to take digestive enzymes made from Pig Pancreases, and it is the high purine content in those, that sparked off a new series of attacks. Took a while to identify the cause, but after a couple of months taking Allopurinol the problem has gone ...... for now at least ;

I have cut out margarine and have butter and olive oil and lard for cooking chips
Oh yes
Just eat less
How about just cutting out the chips? Refined carbs, inflammatory cooking process.
@@nickm2031 chips in the UK are not refined carbs. Just potatoes
I used to take colchicine but I had to take more and more . So the Dr put me on 300 MG Allopurinol. 2 years no attack.
How about lemon favour sparking water or plain sparkling water both without any sugar or any sugar substitute? Also sparkling water have CO2 in it will that increase uric acid?
Nathan, thanks for the great response!
Carbonated water is very mildly acidic and consumed very quickly disintegrates to carbon dioxide and water. In our body it does not get transformed in any acid.

That’s fine. Had this for years with no gout flares. The doctor is right!
What about baking soda in water up to 1 tsp a day? Is that something that helps?
Did the baking soda thing over 2 days, all gout gone👍
People laugh when I tell them to drink baking soda water. It really helps your stomach. Probably gout too.
If you get gout drink about 4L of water a day i do it with sugar free dilute juice it clears it in about 2 days. I had it yesterday today i can barely feel it but will still drink a lot of water to clear it. if you feel it starting drink lots of water

I’m currently on day three of a serious attack. How much longer before the intense pain is gone?
How are you doing now? I'm on day 7, the worst of the pain seems to be gone but my toe is still fucked and can't walk.
Squeeze half of lemon in 8 ounces of water. Do this 3 times a day. Stay well hydrated. It rids the uric acid from your blood.

Indomethacin is a great anti-inflammatory, to relieve the swelling in The joint. Colchichine puts out the “fire” the terrible pain. Water is key!! Alcohol, red meat, sardines, anchovies, bad!
Whoever pays for the study, gets the results they want
That is a 100% true. That is our “ healthsystem”
You mean cherry and apple farmers, Epsom salt manufacturers?
Try cutting way back on salt.
I found it wasn’t the beef, but what I was having with the beef - bread, rice, noodles, potatoes along with dessert or beer. Meat and salad works well for me and now I take no medications.
That was good info
Thank you

ice right before an attack? if you wake up with it, how do you possibly do this?
I think what he was trying to say was put the ice pack just above where the flare up is. Such as if the flare is in your toes, put the ice pack just above that at the ankle joint. I believe he discussed this a little better and more in depth in another video.
How about if we just cut off our feet? Can we do that?
Mine manifested in my hand last time so amputation would have to be dramatic
@richeisenhuth3523 sorry to hear that. I was half serious, though. Seems like a reasonable alternative to excruciating pain all the time.

Thus an ulcer gets damaged by using Apple cider vinegar ?
Eating fresh cherries works well too.
Hey I started drinking real 9.5 ph water from a hydrolysis machine and started doing cardio everyday and I’m got free
What about massage?
Massage with gout will hurt like a b**ch trust me I’ve had gout every little movement sucks. Just getting under the comforters in bed hurts.
you have never clearly had gout !
I tried every one of these remedies (except for the prednisone), some of these reduced pain and swelling, but it never went away.
I cured my gout 100% when I put 1/3 of a teaspoon of borax in my socks each morning, a side effect is that your feet and shoes stay fresh.
Or lose weight if applicable and cut down on carbs, sugary, alcohol.
Have you quit drinking alcohol yet? That is the number one cause.
@@ypcomchic quit drinking at 25 when my dad died of liver cancer. I'm 41 now so 16 years of sobriety.

For me, a teaspoon of sodium Bicarbonate dissolved in a cup of water and drunk. Do this if you have it or feel it coming on. Drinking plenty of water is important. Check bad foods and avoid. Good luck.
Definitely don't massage the crystals, you want your body to remove them through blood flow. The crystals can create damage further.
Normally im not a medication pusher, but gout is an exception
@@DrTomBiernacki ok no more giant massage machine in my gout. Omg this pain is the worst.
I hope it feels better, another option that can work well is an epsom salt bath combined with anti-inflammatory medication,

This popped up in my YT recommendations to remind me of those dark days lol. I remember crawling to the bathroom.
@@ToeJam161 oh my, I've never experienced crawling into the bathroom, that must've been tough...
@@ToeJam161oh god trying to walk something that took me 3 seconds to get to the bathroom took 2 minutes. The first battle is getting up out of bed. As soon as you put that swollen foot down it hurts so bad then you can only move baby steps you feel like a 80 year old using whatever you can grab onto to keep balance. Also forget about sleeping under the covers because the blanket makes everything hurt. I had to sleep on my stomach with my feet hanging over the end of the bed only way that didn’t hurt.

Meat does NOT cause gout. It’s sugar, processed food, and seed/vegetable oils. A low carb/keto/carnivore diet can reverse symptoms.
Salt!
Spot on. Worked for me!
Idk I usually get a flare up after a good pork chop
I just had my first gout attack in 2 years. I shouldn’t have been binge drinking the last 2 months with coworkers and investors.
I eliminated fast food, soda, and processed foods.
I reduced red meat to 1x a week at 4oz
Drinking needs be reduced or eliminated.
Please describe your gout attack symptoms?
Listen man, take a teaspoon of Baking Soda (two and half if youre currently having a flare up), take two teaspoons of apple cider vinegar, and take a teaspoon of lemon juice, and mix it well in a full cup or bottle of water. Drink that once to twice a week and I guarantee you gout will never come back and you can still eat and drink whatever you want.

This entire video is a JOKE. I've had gout since 1985 and have tried all of these treatents over the years and not one of them give any relief at all.
