I know I'm two years late but this is amazing! I live about 40 miles Southeast of here and have always wanted to learn more about the geology of the area. Thank you.
It is great that you made it down near my area. I’ve been trying to find out what these rocks are near South Mountain. I thought they were some kind of metamorphic cuz they are hard but layered. But they are like the ones you described in San Tan valley. A lot of pressure and they developed into vertical lines and there is a lot of quartz too. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and the video.
Interesting once again thank you! We are headed south near Vegas to do some biking. One of our stops along the way is the Valley of Fire State Park. Have you ever been? If so, do you have any suggestions of what to see while there? By the way, we are loving your book Idaho Roadside Geology. Thanks!
Yes, Valley of Fire is awesome. The sandstone there is the same as what you see in Zion National Park, a Jurassic-aged sandstone deposited in dunes. In Nevada, it is called the Aztec Sandstone. The other cool thing at Valley of Fire is that older limestones have been thrust or shoved over the younger sandstone by faulting during the Sevier Orogeny, a mountain building event caused by east-west compression as North America was colliding with an ocean plate. Very cool! Be sure to hike the White Domes trail which takes you into a slot canyon. Fire Wave trail is cool too. Colorful cross bedding in the Aztec Sandstone. Enjoy!
@@shawnwillsey Dang didn't get notified of your very informative reply before our trip. We have another one planned and will put your info to use then Thanks!!
This place is complicated, and I think it needs more diagrams and maybe more words to explain the "stretching and extension" in order to get these results.
Awesome! Can you do a video on the glass buttes area in Idaho please? Love your videos. You are close to 1000k subscribers! You can then get monetized!

Thanks for watching. I know of Glass Buttes in Oregon (obsidian) but haven't heard of the one in Idaho. Can you give me directions or location info?
@@shawnwillsey I made a mistake. I meant Oregon!
@@BrandonSchmit Ah yes. No travels that way on my calendar but if I do, I will be sure to stop and do a video.
