As iconic as this song and bassline is, hearing it isolated from the rest of the instrumental really allows one to appreciate how damn talented Ryan is.
Yes! That’s why when audio engineers are mixing tracks they start with the getting the kick and bass to sound right and then build everything on top of that
@@kane6529 It's a kind of phonetic sounding out of the 1st 3 notes of the bass line. someone created a 10 hour video of just those 3 notes looped and it spawned the term Br-Br-Ding!
@Kane it's the popping noise he makes. When you listen to the beginning there's him hitting the low B (making the brr brr sound) then he makes the pop with the high G string (ding sound).
I’ve been listening to this song for over 20 years and even though, as a guitar player, I had a pretty good idea of what Ryan is playing during the verses, having just heard it isolated blew my mind. This undoubtedly, wins my first place as the best bassline and the best bass playing in a heavy song. No contest.

Maybe one of the best Nu Metal bassists. But he is nowhere near Alex Webster, Jared Smith, Steve DiGeorgio, Sean Malone, Olivier Pinard, and the almighty Domenic Forest LaPointe…. but for Nu Metal, which often makes the most out of like 6 or 7 notes per song, Ryan is great. This song is a classic but he’s really only playing like 4 notes. He just plays them percussively and he’s a decent slapper.
Ryan and Matt. Still one of the best rhythm sections in the history of metal. If you haven’t listened to Ryan’s other band called Soften the Glare, you’re missing out.

LD50 has plenty of great bass lines but we mustn't discount The End of All Things to Come. Perversion Of a Truth, Skrying, The Patient Mental or the title track spring to mind. Can't forget about Not Falling. My picks off of LD are probably Death Blooms, -1, Everything And Nothing and Cradle.
