Congrats on the Maggot Brain find. I could ever be so lucky. Faith Hope and Charity great group. I remember hearing their songs on the radio. Thanks for covering Soul music. Awesome
Wow, that is an amazing copy of Maggot Brain. I have an early pressing of that album, but the cover is very worn out... The record itself is pretty clean though... I take the shrink off on gatefold LPs too... thanks for sharing.
wow! are you definite that's the original maggot brain and not the 2010 reissue that used the same sleeve? I'm not sure i could live without being 100% certain!
really enjoyed this, i really appreciate focused, passionate collectors like you. i always forget to rip the paper sleeves off-- definitely the way to go. i use the japanese inners for all my records-- i'll definitely try that trick. maybe cut a small seam on the shrink of your magogt brain so it doesn't warp the record in the long run. cheers, alex
Invariably. Take a record in its inner sleeve from a jacket which still has the shrink in place and look at the shape it assumes. It folds upwards on both sides in a concave shape. Now imagine how that record will be after months or years if it remains sealed in shrink wrapping. Unplayable that’s what! Vinyl LP Care does a lot of work fixing warped vinyl records.
I just cut around the hype stickers and put that in the outer jacket and toss the shrink. It was only there for distibution anyway. Plain white paper sleeves just go, printed ones are either supplemented by a poly lined or lined with the Japanese rice paper rounded bottom inners.
If I had that Maggot Brain it would be OPEN IN A NANOSECOND. Unfortunately the vinyl reissues (can't speak for digital) are all by and large terrible, OG's and even blue label Westbounds sound miles better. And yes there are better ways to open the shrink. :) These days I keep it intact and put it in the jacket to keep the hype stickers. As for paper sleeves...I cannot express how much I despise paper sleeves, when records were a commodity item I get it but in this day and age given the prices they should all come in poly lined sleeves. They should also all come in loose shrink ala MOFI/Acoustic Sounds.
I am not a fan of shrink. I always remove it completely regardless of age. I may clip the hype sticker and save in the jacket. Thank you for the video.
The shrink must go. Total agree!

Thanks for your kind words and watching.
I love your intro in this one.
Interesting ways to get that record out of the sleeve to avoid paper burns. Never thought of just tearing it open. Nice job on finding the Funkadelic.
Thanks :-)
Great video, Nadine! Keep killing it!
Thank you so much!!
You should also listen to Bessie Smith and Irma Thomas.
Hello Ninox111, thanks for watching. I love Irma Thomas, will sure have a listen to Bessie. All the best Nadine

Thanks for watching and your kind words. Will try that trick with the small cut.
thumb up for the shrink must go
Thanks for watching.
Maggot brain really needs a quality reissue, it's so difficult navigating through all the crappy recent reissues
So true !
sometimes records that have remained in shrink for decades can become badly warped, so proceed with caution....it's a coin toss
Thanks for pointing this out

The shrink must go, no question about that. I throw them away with every record, no matter how expensive, I hate shrink.
