The thing that fascinated me the most was that Zim was always perfectly capable of conquering the Earth. Not only is Dib quite literally the ONLY person on the planet who is both capable and WILLING to give a damn, but every other person is pathetically inadequate in some form or another. Zim meanwhile is a super-genius (creating such things as inter-dimensional travel and possibly pocket dimensions) and Zim was quite literally BORN for this; his entire existence is designed to take control of planets. All of his errors stem from his mental and emotional immaturity (which is caused by a PAK malfunction). This is a mental disorder that is both impossible to be fixed and cannot be ignored.
If he simply had the ability to self-reflect and try to negate his bad habits, he would be able to annihilate the human race in a matter of days. Possibly even less...

Irkens age much more slowly than humans, so Zim is way older, I think 170? I’ll have to check. But even for an Irken he’s older than Dib, who’s still a child (albeit a smart one).
i believe it was confirmed zim was about 160(?) earth years! but yeah bc of irk’s cycles/rotations they irkens age slower/live longer than humans
@@kurayamiify Yes, Jhonen confirmed that Zim was an adult and was FAR older than Dib. Zim's age on Irk is 16 (A kid on Earth to us humans but on Irk, you're an adult.) 1 Irken year is 10 Human years. So on Earth, Zim is over 160

Take into account his skinny arms and legs , his big head - he isn't just *short* hes structured in similar proportions to a child. He has lived longer but has not developed mentally (or physically) at the rate humans would over the same span of time (not that anyone has lived to be 160 years old but you understand what i mean) , otherwise he wouldn't be so immature and brash , sure hes intelligent when he wants to be , but he makes glaringly simple mistakes that make his plans fail. Like a kid with access to top of the line science equipment. The same way dog years work versus humans (switch it around and say we are the dogs) they are mature way quicker than humans are. Puppies turn into adults quicker than humans do , in this case Irkens age like humans , and humans age like dogs to them.

Honestly I love this a lot. I think it captures Zim's character very well (assuming this is a looser interpretation where he has more feelings other than angry and is less oblivious to being mistreated by the tallest)
I also usually dislike the way people draw Zim outside of the canon art style- it just never looks right to me. They either make him too cute or too round which just looks wrong. But this looks really good.
I love how you showed him talking to himself (2:10) I feel like he is saying something like "you can lie to everyone else but you don't have to lie to yourself" but he is too determined (and egocentric) to ever admit defeat, even and especially to himself. Which is honestly one of his better qualities.

im a firm believer that art can be whatever you want it to be, but to me i thought of it sort of like his conscience. like, the better part of himself is trying to get him to admit his problems and face himself, but he's just to god damn stubborn >:)

@@matthewsnyder9478 The thing on Zim's (the aliens) back. It's a weird kind of cybernetic that has a variety of features, most notably the PAK legs, which are exactly what they sound like.
@@matthewsnyder9478 The PAK also holds all of an irken's self and memories, and they can only survive for about five minutes without it. No one knows how Irkens originally reproduced but they're switched to creating offspring in test tubes, then using machines to raise them.
I'm only just now realizing that Zim is fully grown but short, which makes sense as to why he's always been treated with disrespect by the others of his species. It never made sense to me why they would look down on him when he's just a child, but it's because he's NOT a child. He is a very capable adult, the others are just bullies who never let him reach his full potential
While yes, the others were massive bullies, i will point out that that's his species' culture. They value Height above all else, and he's so short he blends in with children perfectly, he has a mental disorder that makes him entirely dysfunctional and unable to perform his purpose in society, in a very utilitarian society, and he has a physical abnormality in the mechanical spider legs that come from his pack, which is also looked down upon rather harshly. Zim is quite literally everything his people consider undesirable. Zim's constant failures were actually him doing his best without anyone interfering beyond an actual child. He was operating at his full potential, he's just not suited to what his species wants.

My favorite thing about Zims character in this animatic is the scenes that give him Pink Blood so it makes me think of Danganronpa besides that, this video is a masterpiece it looks like it took a lot of effort sweating and probably a couple of days so i admire the hardwork people put in to make these kinds of videos.

Okay I've been gaping at my screen for a while now, just replaying the video over and over again. It's absolutely stunning. There is so much thought put into it and every scene and I just really love it. I also love your color choices. They're so soft and pretty. And your artstyle! And the animations!! Simply amazing!

I really like all the abstract elements you used and the reference to the comics in there, and the song choice is pro, very fitting to Zim as a character and how determined he is to prove himself by any means necessary.

Because zim has *maybe accidentally* commited many crimes in Irk (i don't even know if It's canon or not), kill the past tallests, causing blackouts on their home planet, being a defective(bruh idek what's wrong with being a defect), being so destructive to the point of destroying half of their planet and not to mention short.
ive been rewatching this animatic, "spaceship" and "im not crazy" regularly for the past year or so, they mean a lot to me and they changed me. i dont know what happened to the animator, but i hope u are okay and thriving. your works are very dear to me. im not even into invader zim, i just like your animatics specifically

A convoluted simulation just to learn Dib threw a muffin at his head and then ends with shooting a muffin into Dib's face. This is a good example of Zim being intelligent but petty, like when he tricks Dib into revealing a "blind spot" in his security just to rush home and fix it
This is such a good representation of Zims character its amazing!! I always thought that it was sadly ironic how loyal and determined he is for a fake cause considering his mission is fake and that he will probably be obsessed with earth until it is finally conquered/destroyed. I feel like Zim sees his body as nothing but a weapon to a cause and his emotions as something that only gets in the way. Great job!!

There is plenty of us around, and we don’t die for shmellions of years, so there is no point in invading at such a fast rate..” But then, they are basically robots and aren’t “programmed” to think such thinks.

I'm such a huge simp for Invader Zim as a whole and everything the fandom puts out and this is one of the BEST things I've seen in while. your art and animation is beautiful and the colours are amazing. such a great narrative as well. I'm especially fond of the montage of failed plans and I love how you included Clembrane and the florpus in there. this was super great, I'm so glad it got recommended to me. can't wait to see more!

I watched this so many times over and over it’s SO FREAKN GOOD. Just the whole aspect that Zim is falling apart going through mazes and mazes trying to figure out how to please his tallest. Deep down he knows something is wrong as he slowly descends into madness in each attempt to take over the world. It’s all so GOOD.
oh wow, you just awakened the strangest feeling I had in awhile, where I knew all the lyrics to a song that I've never heard before. this song was orginally "All of My Friends" in early conceptions, a realeased song made by Tally Hall which the man who performed this was in. amazing animation! each transition is so smooth while the lines are really precise in each frame! This song fits Zim very well and really does capture his struggle alot, which was uniquely stylized and framed.

This animatic is absolutely stunning. It's so beautifull. The art style, the transitions, the colour pallette, the plot. This looks like a professional storyboard rather than fan animatic. I'm totally in love with this and gonna rewatch it multiple times from now
1:12 honestly I love how dib just looks at zim sadly as he laughs he may be thinking an alien could be revolutionary for earth but zim wants only destruction and dib wants peace almost as he is feeling sorry for the alien
The timing here is so tight, the contrast between words and actions and the times they match... I keep coming back to this song for a reason, and that reason is that this video is excellent.

If Dib joined Zim in conquering the earth, they could probably do it. Everyone hates Dib but Zim kind of cares about him, the same thing goes for Zim. They would make a great team, but it would take a while for them to get used to working together.
I would love to see Dib as villain. He always has potential to be one. He should have become main villain in the movie.

Well for both of you long story short an alien named Zim who's hated by everyone on his planet for being too dangerous annoying irrational etc is fooled into being sent to a backwater planet nobody cares about as an alien invader. That planet is Earth only one human even notices he's an alien at first Dib Membrane and he's the only human who cares at all to stop Zim from conquering Earth

@@AL-ez9sx Well from my memory, I would say he somewhat did. In the first episode, it showed a flashback of Zim controlling this large machinery and forcing people to use the weapons while still at the base (?) something like that haha. Also in the comics, Zim also killed off (i’m not 100% sure, it’s been a long time since I re-read the comics) this soldier that was introduced in the comics. Basically what he did was setting up bombs? which exploded, killing off his soldier along with other irkens. The other irkens were pissed off at Zim for killing her and the other people as well. Still, I’m unsure but it definitely had something to do with this whole explosion. I feel like Zim has more kill count in his own population than he does with humans

Netflix broke my heart when I saw the Rockos modern life and invader Zim specials.... I was so excited for the younger generation to get that spark when you see true animated and story telling talent, but alas I love what I got, and getting to find markers like you. I completely love this video. The art style for these characters fits so well. I love the sad look that Dib gives Zim after punching him. He realizes that yes, Zim is trying to take over the world and needs to be stopped, but also... Zim's not in a good place mentally, and there's not much he can do about it. It's just kind of sad, and he can't help but feel a little pity for him.
The only thing that's been bugging me is those failed plans. I know all of them except the cat. What's the cat supposed to be? I have no idea what episode or comic it's a reference to.
